After kicking a fan in the Crystal Palace crowd, Eric Cantona was told he had to attend a press conference. He sat down, had a drink of water, and said: “When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much.”
Everyone was left scratching their head, trying to wonder the true meaning behind this philosophical statement. It turns out that it meant nothing though. Cantona had been told he had to say something so this is what he chose to say.

It clearly means something though.
One way to interpret it:
The journos are the seagulls, Eric is the trawler.
Hey RoM folks:

This is brilliant:

I love this man.
this Lad is talented…See his ball distribution http://t.co/dSnHag1I wanyama
Proverb
Wached that vid. I will admit that I dont watch nor get the chance to watch Scottish football so I cannot say for sure if this Wanyama kid is any good but if that was a MOTM performance then the match must have been a holocaust for the eyes. I found his passing decidedly average at times, his movement suspect, plenty of energy and good ability and balance whilst on the ground, Ill give him that. There is a skill being able to change direction of the ball and pass when in the middle of a slide or being fouled. To me it looked like an energetic Celtic team concentrating on testing the Inter Milan players fitness levels and Celtic being allowed to pass in the space between lines. Inter looked very rigid and its generally easier to pass when teams are looking as disinterested as Inter did that day.
An obvious one for me:
“My best moment? I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan.”
“i’m not a man, i’m Cantona.”
Cantona clearly knew that the media were expecting something to write after the incident. Cantona saw them as the vultures they were (and are still), and likened them to the seagulls, who follow the trawler for the leftovers.
@Goat you should try find a repeat of last nights game between celtic and barca
He was really, really good
Dictating play and hustling the barca players and forcing them into errors in their tick tuck. He was soo industrious picking pin point passes, initiating counterattacks and on….. It was a joy to watch
He’s great buddy just the sort of DM capable of creating something out of nothing
he had iniesta in his right packet all game, he barely gave him a breathing space.
Top guy!
@Saad
On a scale of Jonjo Shelvy to Jordan Henderson, Just how bad is Steward Downing?

The Best is: “Ryan Giggs’ wife divorced him and took half of everything he owned. How does it feel knowing she has 6 more Premier League medals than you?”

Right your are bbabyj. Some stars prefer to be enigmatic and will attribute their quotes to random acts of their genius, which this was. But he obviously meant what you put down.
It didnt mean nothing, it was a reference to the media looking for a story to print and waiting for him to say something but of course he only said that line.
It means the journos are scavengers, looking for free food whenever, where-ever they may be.
Hail to the King…
My best moment? I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan.
For me it was representative. And, if my memory serves me correctly, the press conference was given after Eric had allegedly assaulted a journalist in France whilst on his 8 month suspnsion. Not in light of the “Kung-Fu kick” incident….
