A Flock Of Seagulls

After kicking a fan in the Crystal Palace crowd, Eric Cantona was told he had to attend a press conference. He sat down, had a drink of water, and said: “When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much.”

Everyone was left scratching their head, trying to wonder the true meaning behind this philosophical statement. It turns out that it meant nothing though. Cantona had been told he had to say something so this is what he chose to say.

  1. bbabyj says:

    It clearly means something though.

    One way to interpret it:

The journos are the seagulls, Eric is the trawler.

  2. FletchTHEMAN says:

Ermm…… seems clear enough to me?!

“It is imposible to make things visible which are invisible” Eric Cantona

  3. Saad says:

    This is brilliant:

‘On a scale of Jonjo Shelvy to Jordan Henderson, Just how bad is Steward Downing? ‘

    - a tweet sent to Stevie Me

  4. Goat Peticoat says:

Thanks for that mate, Giggs wife, six more league winners medals than Gerrard – fucking classic

  5. Proverb says:

this Lad is talented…See his ball distribution wanyama

  6. Goat Peticoat says:

Wached that vid. I will admit that I dont watch nor get the chance to watch Scottish football so I cannot say for sure if this Wanyama kid is any good but if that was a MOTM performance then the match must have been a holocaust for the eyes. I found his passing decidedly average at times, his movement suspect, plenty of energy and good ability and balance whilst on the ground, Ill give him that. There is a skill being able to change direction of the ball and pass when in the middle of a slide or being fouled. To me it looked like an energetic Celtic team concentrating on testing the Inter Milan players fitness levels and Celtic being allowed to pass in the space between lines. Inter looked very rigid and its generally easier to pass when teams are looking as disinterested as Inter did that day.

  7. Swed Devil says:

    An obvious one for me:

“My best moment? I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan.”

  8. DEVILisRED says:

    “i’m not a man, i’m Cantona.”

  9. FaroeRed says:

Cantona clearly knew that the media were expecting something to write after the incident. Cantona saw them as the vultures they were (and are still), and likened them to the seagulls, who follow the trawler for the leftovers.

  10. Proverb says:

@Goat you should try find a repeat of last nights game between celtic and barca
    He was really, really good
Dictating play and hustling the barca players and forcing them into errors in their tick tuck. He was soo industrious picking pin point passes, initiating counterattacks and on….. It was a joy to watch
He’s great buddy just the sort of DM capable of creating something out of nothing
he had iniesta in his right packet all game, he barely gave him a breathing space.
    Top guy!

Steve, are you going to wear a “Support Mark Clattenberg” t-shirt before your next game?
At least at Liverpool you can now concentrate on the Champions Lea.. the Premier Leag… your familly

    these cracked me up :D

but this is the best -> Steve, will next year be your year?

  12. edhardy says:

That hashtag was hilarious! Who ever came out with that idea of a stevieg hashtag should be sacked.
My favourite was if shelvey occupied the whole car park with his spaceship.

  13. berbatunday says:

Could that be Emma Watson’s sister, Amy? is she as fine looking as her sister?

  14. ji says:

    off-topic but priceless… :)

The Best is: “Ryan Giggs’ wife divorced him and took half of everything he owned. How does it feel knowing she has 6 more Premier League medals than you?”

  15. mansuy united says:

Right your are bbabyj. Some stars prefer to be enigmatic and will attribute their quotes to random acts of their genius, which this was. But he obviously meant what you put down.

  16. Sam says:

It didnt mean nothing, it was a reference to the media looking for a story to print and waiting for him to say something but of course he only said that line.

  17. Unitedforeva says:

It means the journos are scavengers, looking for free food whenever, where-ever they may be.

  18. lordrt says:

    Hail to the King…

  19. Chicalole says:

My best moment? I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan.

  20. number7shirt says:

For me it was representative. And, if my memory serves me correctly, the press conference was given after Eric had allegedly assaulted a journalist in France whilst on his 8 month suspnsion. Not in light of the “Kung-Fu kick” incident….
