Flamengo midfielder Adryan has confirmed that he had held talks with Manchester United over a possible move last summer before opting to remain in Brazil. He 17-year-old turned down the opportunity to follow the Da Silva twins and Anderson from Brazil to Manchester as he doesn’t feel like he’s read for a move to Europe yet.
”Manchester United did talk to me and showed interest,” Adryan told Globo Esporte. ”But I was not interested in moving at that point. Let’s see if something adequate comes up in the future. ‘I don’t think about going to Europe so quickly, things need to be done step by step.”

How the hell do “fans” bring themselves to such a level where they wish bad luck upon a player and wait in hope for them to have a bad day so they can pounce like disgusting vultures, spreading their hideous dark disease upon fans who have fresh wounds and try to rally a greater number of plastics.
When angry I lash out at players performances during the game and if its a run of games during the bad spell I get frustrated and constantly point out their flaws and areas of improvement, but I don’t ridicule them at a level where even if they had a good game or even average that I would deliberately set out to criticise them. I try to understand the performance ( Injuries,age,positioning,match sharpness,fitness, discipline).
The players I do have concerns about(Fabio,Anderson,Fletcher,Nani) rarely do I heavily criticise but instead I do the opposite and hype them up in hope some day they become the players I big up because if was in the crowd I would cheer regardless of who they are, as long as they wear that badge and play with pride, thats enough for me.
@ Giles. I genuinely believe that IF Fergie had not bought this Jones fella, we’d have won the league by now and still be in the CL. I’ve said this countless times and I really feel that there was absolute NO need whatsoever for us to get Jones in. If Jones hadn’t been bought either Rafael or Smalling would have made the RB position his own. Smalling and Jonny providing cover to the 2 CB’s Rio and Nemanja. A proper solid back 4 would have been played each week and the lads would have got good continuity, trust and most importantly a solid rythem to their game. Its all very well having a big squad and competition for places etc BUT I’ve found it to have a negative impact for us and results this season have illustrated my point clearly. U don’t win leagues, CL’s and cups by changing the team on a weekly basis. Shit doesn’t work that way and that’s a fact! U need a solid back 4 for starters and I feel the defense is the most important part of any team. Its vital. Look at the carrick – scholesy combination in recent weeks and look at how successful its been. We need continuity. Even though that’s a midfield combo, playing players weekly in their preferred positions wins you matches and results speak for themselves. Rio and Jonny is another one. they’ve been immense the 2 of them and thank fuck Fergie hasn’t decided to throw Jones in their as well.
Look at Barca for example. The reason they have been so successful is caus they basically play them same 11 week in and out with only a number of small changes here and there. And results say it all. They have dominated football for a couple years now.
So its just my opinion and u can all call me a cunt but I don’t give a fuck to be quite honest. This Jones lad has messed our team around in a big way and therefore I genuinely believe that if he had not been signed things would have been different…

How many 19 year olds are performing consistently in prem at the moment. We’ve seen Jones make mistakes this season. Mainly with the positional side of his game. But we’ve also see him display great maturity, energy, workrate, leadership qualities and courage. Sure he’s not the finished article but what 19 year old is. In terms of raw talent he’s one of the best teenagers around. I’ve no doubt he will one day become captain of both club and country. Also his attitude is spot on.
This is my take on Phil Jones. I don’t believe in overdoing and overhyping his versatility. I believe he was signed to be a DEFENDER at Manchester United and NOTHING ELSE. At Blackburn, he caught the eye because of his stellar DEFENSIVE performances. At the start of the season, he played his best games for United IN DEFENSE. Why on earth we decided to take him out of his comfort zone and throw him into midfield against natural midfielders is beyond me. You cannot expect someone who is more of a defender to immediately turn on the style in midfield. The reason why Jones is on a bad run of form is because he has gotten too used to midfield and now he is trying to re adapt to defense and for a young boy it does take time. However Jones can do his adapting in the off season. Cannot afford anymore mistakes at this point. Right now we need someone at RB who is stable and can bring this title home and that man is Rafael. end of.
There was one fear I had about both Smalling and Jones. That their versatility (and our lack of a fit right back) would turn them into new O’Sheas. Meaning that they’d be good at 2-3 different positions, but not great at one. I hope this isn’t what’s happening to Jones. It’s early yet, but it will be a long time before he plays as a central defender regulary. And like dannysoya said, that’s his best position.

Adryan is an outstanding younger talent, really technically gifted and perhaps would have been a massive improvement on some brazilians we’ve shipped into the club. He impressed in a couple of tournaments, catching the eye with his creativity and ability to score a goal. He’s another potential and would have needed time to be moulded into a premier league player.
One thing i’ve noticed is, we seem to buy some players who do not fit into the system united currently employ and then we try to covert them into something they never will be or would be less effective at (veron, kleberson, anderson) baffles me.
They are some major flaws in Max’s theory. Smalling, Rafael and Fabio have been injured a lot this season. Without Jones we would have had Valencia at right back a lot more of this season. And his performance against Norwich is a reminder to everyone that he is not a right back. We also would have had more problems in midfield, Jones had to play there at times in the first half of the season. So I very much doubt we’d have the league won and still be in the Champions League if we didn’t sign Jones.
It’s all well and good going about a consistent team, but we’ve had a bucket load of injuries.
Also, SAF may have doubted Evans ability to recover like he has this season. So there were several reasons why he was right to sign Jones.
In a few years time Jones will be one of our most important players.
Also fair play to Adryan. If he didn’t feel he’s ready then theres no point in joining. If he turns out to be a star let’s hope he’ll join when he is ready.

Let’s be honest, jones has been inept for months now. I’ve said he lacks experience which brings added composure and awareness, he continues to be moved around like a dog smelling of Shit which again affects his development. He is and was bought as a center half, his surging runs forward has made people believe he is the outstanding box to box midfield player, he certainly will never be that because you require certain attributes to occupy and excel in that position. Jones enthusiasm and willingness for the games means he doesn’t mind but in the long run, he needs a fixed rigid position which is centre half. He needs to work on all facets of his game to improve and i’m sure he will want to but there are no definite guarantees that he will definitely turn out to be a great player. Step by step is how you climb a ladder.
The fact he’s played more games than expected has brought its added pressure. United is a club in which you need to be consistent throughout and jones like many is learning that now.

james21 – i agree with you, it certainly isn’t down to jones. Football is a team game and if we’ve encountered problems this season then it’s mostly down to injuries to key players, enforced rotation e.t.c.
Jones was never the finished and when bought, he needed time blend into the squad. like i’ve posted many times, moving him around is not helping his development, he still needs to gather experience and then composure and discipline will come. You can’t plant a seed and expect to reap the rewards instantly, it takes nurturing and patience but on other hand, it still doesn’t guarantee a player becoming who we hope he would be but you have to take risks and jones is an example of that. I disagree with people saying we should dispatch him even thought admittedly i’ve been critical of some players and casting doubts but that’s nothing to do with me wanting them to fail but a burgeoning desire for them to succeed and perhaps eclipse expectations, it obviously brings out that harsh straightforward side in me but hey sometimes we have to be patient with players (that have the attributes or potential).
It sounds like these were exactly what he said ‘talks’ probably just the slightest of enquiry but fair play to the lad for admitting he isnt ready.
I think jones will be fine eventually given time and will settle into CB alongside smalling long terrm.

I can understand he was pissed seeing young guys from outside like Jones play in his CM position when he was not even CM and seeing them bigged up as future captain while he was looked over. But he has also been reassured he has a future and seen Welbeck, Clev, Rafael from youth team get their chance. Also had he signed maybe SAF would have played him instead of experimenting with Jones who is not remotely at the same level in MF.
If its money I can’t accept that, he would make lots of money if he progressed at United and SAF is clearly showing him he considers him the future. Jones will not be playing in his spot next season if Pogba signs. It should be him and Scholes / Cleverly / Carrick. I am sure he has been told that, he will have a spot, he just needs to sign. Also at Juventus there is no guarantee he will start.

I don’t rate Jones at all on present form, Smalling and Rafael and Evans are better in defence and other players better in MF. However, he does not pick himself, it is SAF who picks him and therefore the manager is the one who people should look at if they are not happy with team selection not the guy who gets selected. SAF picks Jones for whatever reason ahead of Rafael, Smalling. Park and Pogba. I wouldn’t, I would have played Smalling and Rafa ahead of him at RB or defence always, but I am not one of the world’s best managers.

Re CD Evans has staked his claim as heir to that world class pairing, one of the greatest United has ever had, and after him I loved Smalling, he had an amazing debut and has been pure class for the most part and has pace to complement Evans and Vidic’s positioning. However, we need an O’Shea and Wes as back up. Jones may do the job, who knows, but one more back up CD is needed.
What is happening to De laet? I was hoping to see him back at OT. What I saw of him the kid had real potential.
