Giles Oakley: Thank you for the info. Online there are many fakes, bravado boys and outright abusive no-marks. Plus, no matter how hard we try not to, we all embellish what we truly are to some degree; it's a human thing.
On rare occasions on this medium you encounter folk who possess all the qualities a proper bloke and decent human being must have to be so; your instincts tell you this.
You're one of those rarities, Mr GO. Best wishes for the future from me.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. To answer Norton, I was diagnosed in March, when the first stage of treatment started. With hindsight I should have been tested earlier, which is why I keep banging on to everyone. One possible early symptom manifested itself as what I thought was a groin strain picked up playing football the previous September. Despite intensive physiotherapy that has never cleared up and I broke down on my comeback in January. When I was first diagnosed as having cancer soon afterwards the consultant certainly thought the pain was from the tumour, but the one I'm seeing now is not so sure. When I've finished the radio therapy maybe we'll find out for certain, one way or the other. I keep doing my exercises in the faint hope of making my comeback as a player, Owen Hargreaves-style. I don't half miss playing, that's for sure. So many good mates, who've been terrific over the last few months, including City fans, Scousers, Chelsea rentboys, Gooners, Spurs , some Fulham folks and an ever-hopeful QPR supporter.Plus, of course, some genuine Reds. One final bit of advice to you all: if you can still play, do so, until they carry you off in a box. Apart from the fun and the friendships, it actually helps you keep fit and healthy. All my doctors say that my excellent fitness and general good health gives me a much better chance of surviving this latest little difficulty.

Giles,

As roadkill said, no need for apologies, mate.

Your honesty and courage here is genuinely admirable and puts a lot of the petty arguments we have into real perspective. Here's hoping for a quick return to full health!

Yep, best of luck, Giles Oakley. Just gotta admire your genuine courage and inherent modesty.
Can I ask how long you've been ill?

Giles,
You have no need to make apologies to any of us. Especially in the light that you are giving all of us guys on the site valuable information.

Gents,
If you are over the age of 40, go see your GP, get blood drawn to check your PSA and bend over, grab you knees and bear a moment of discomfort. IN the meantime, say a few prayers for Giles and a successful treatment.

Great comment from weeeeeldrinkadrink which got me laughing.

Fze123, I have Advanced Prostate Cancer, unfortunately. I'm happy to tell all and sundry about it as it's important that people know about the disease. As I've said on this site before, early detection is vital. It is a strange cancer, both one of the most treatable but also one of the most lethal. Classic symptoms include a sudden increase in the number of times you go for a piss, especially at night, or needing to go suddenly. There's a simple blood test (PSA) which your GP can do for you, which isn't completely conclusive but gives a strong indication. There are various follow ups if your PSA score is too high, which will give a definitive answer. Then there are numerous treatment options, depending on all sorts of factors, such as whether it has already spread, as it has to a certain extent in my case. I have had hormone therapy for the last 7 months to help weaken the tumour and now I have started this experimental form of Radio Therapy which will carry on till Xmas. There are all sorts of side effects of both, unfortunately, including constant tiredness, but it's better than the alternative.I am delighted that Fergie and United have taken up the cancer issue generally , partly because Fergie's brother Martin had prostate cancer, as did Denis Law and Brian Kidd. I make no apology for going on again about this non-football subject, as I want to take every opportunity to tell men of all ages: If in Doubt, Check it Out. And that applies especially to United supporters.

Typical media cunts overreacting without knowing what goes on behind the scenes. The Daily Mail is a Nazi newspaper anyway, bunch of fucking cunts. As for John Terry, he's a bottler and a total wanker.
