Nice job, Scott. Smudger is a lovely lad: Dedicated to his career and teetotal. The real trouble is that he's a carthorse. He loved setting the table for Viduka at Leeds and I think that's what Big Sam was aiming for with the Toon when he brought himin. The problem is that there's no Harry Kewell-type of tricky winger who can pull defences out of shape and give Smudge time to set up positionally, either. Simply put, he's too slow to ever do consistently well in the EPL, especially since that horrible double fracture. I believe he's still got the quality to succeed in Scotland or the Championship division, however, and would excel with Sheffield United or back with Leeds. Walter Smith or Craig Levein could well find he's just what the doctor ordered across the border, too.
