And the song is back!

Manchester United have been put in the same group as Glasgow Rangers, meaning a song which has dominated our European escapades over the past few years makes a comeback.

First heard sung this season at Old Trafford when we played West Ham, this is a song you’ll undoubtedly have stuck in your head for the next few weeks.

Here’s a bit of recent history on he song including several variations.

2009/2010: Rangers, European Cup group stages.
“Follow, follow, follow, cos United are going to Glasgow. They’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Glasgow.”

2008/2009: Porto, European Cup quarter-finals.
“Follow, follow, follow, cos United are going to Porto. There’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Porto.”

2008/2009: Celtic, Champions League group stages.
“Follow, follow, follow, cos United are going to Glasgow. They’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Glasgow.”

2007/2008: Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, European Cup final.
“Follow, follow, follow, cos United are going to Moscow. They’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Moscow.”

2006/2007: Celtic, European Cup group stages.
“Follow, follow, follow, cos United are going to Glasgow. They’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Glasgow.”

“Follow, follow, follow, cos United are going to Porto. There’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Porto.”

“Follow if we lose or we win, cos United are going to Turin. There’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Turin.”

“Follow, follow, follow, cos United are going to Monaco. There’ll be thousands of reds and we’ll be pissed out our heads, cos United are going to Monaco.”

That song was at its best in 08 on the way to moscow. Best song of the season for me that year, followed by the classic viva ronaldo. good times.

  2. kanchelskis says:

Who remembers “Follow, follow, follow. Cos United are going to Rome… Follow, follow, follow. Cos we’re going for two in a row”

    Hmm… sorry. Bad memories :(

  3. keegan4england says:

2002 – European final was at hamden park. We f**ked up V Leverkusen.

  4. Costas says:

I found out about the chant during our 01-02 Champions’ League campaign.

    Damn that Leverkusen game!

sure that was going to moscow !!

  6. Costas says:

According to a Portuguese newspaper, CQ’s days as Portugal manager are numbered. It will be interesting to hear portugueseprincess’ view on things.

  7. CP says:

    riveting article

  8. Benitez's fact hunt says:

    … don’t forget the variant:

“There’ll be thousands of Scousers, who’ll be robbing your houses, cos United are going to Glasgow”

  9. Lovely.United says:

    Best version :

    Hello hello hello
Do You remember who won it in Moscow
We made the trophy turn red
Thank you John Terry we said
Cos United had won it in Moscow

  10. willierednut says:

I always liked one particular song, don’t know the words, but it used the music from dirty old town.

  11. Sam Smith says:

Costas – my girlfriend comes from a Portuguese family, and having been out there I can tell you that Carlos Queiroz is phenomenally unpopular. Most people wanted him out before the World Cup as they were lucky to even qualify for it!

They’ve now had an awful start to the Euro qualifiers but with Queiroz’s suspension and the disruption which that will have caused I guess it is not overly surprising!

  12. Jonny says:

Whats it going to be for the final at wembley though?

    We all follow Man United
    Man United are the best
In the famous red and white
All the other teams are shite
Man United are the best team in the land

Or did I imagine that one?

  13. Costas says:

    @Sam Smith

Thanks for the info. Teaming up with Sir Alex can open up a lot of doors for you. CQ has had the chance to work at Real and Portugal as a result. To be honest though, I never consider him a good manager. He was a very good right hand man though and he and Fergie complimented each other very well.

I feel bad for the Portuguese because they’ve wasted a lot of time and opportunities with Carlos. Especially since these are Ronaldo’s best years of his career. I was surprised he stayed after the World Cup. They are probably planning on cutting their losses now.

  14. Green n gold bazza says:

We also sang this in 2000 as the Europe final was hampden park although we never reached it

  15. Green n gold bazza says:

    Sorry meant 2002

  16. bigphil2003 says:

Hmm, it’s a pretty shit song in my eyes.

  17. bigphil2003 says:

Though it is stuck in my head now – damn you Scott!

  18. Toby says:

Will be singing it on tuesday!

  19. giggs11gerrard0 says:

    @RedPhil

Completely agree with your first post mate as we never made it to the final in Glasgow. Moscow we raeched the final and won so it makes it all the more special.

  20. Stretford End Flags says:

First heard it before Porto away in 1996

  21. Stretford End Flags says:

Aso heard for the year of the Old Trafford Champions League finla, which was the year after the Glasgow Final and the year Fergie decided to stay as boss.

    “Follow, Follow, Follow,
Its Old Trafford instead of Glasgow,
There’ll be no Capello or Sven,
    Coz its Fergie again,
and were going to do 3 in a row”

  22. willierednut says:

Hello, hello, we are the busby boys, is also a favourite of mine.

  23. Stretford End Flags says:

Also for Porto in 2004 followig the police action at the previous trip

    “Follow, Follow, Follow,
Coz United are going to Porto,
    There’ll Rubber bullets to head,
    we’ll all end up dead,
but we’ll all be too pissed to know!

  24. rhystiano says:

when is ‘we want our trophy back’ gonna be sung at OT again?

  25. Dave Mack says:

Agree Red Phil …’08 songs Viva Ronaldo, Moscow were the best and was that the season we sang the “Morhino are you listening” Christmas song? (Actually it was the previous season as we had already “come in May to take it away”)

Just thought that we can start a new version of that one again this year!

  26. Dave Mack says:

Rhystinio.. just wait for the weather to get a little colder and you’ll be hearing this …

    Anchelloti are you listening
You better keep our trophy glistening
    Cause we’re coming in May
    To take it away
    Walking in a Fergie wonderland.

  27. Mozza79 says:

Erm what about when we went to Glasgow for the first fucking time in 03/04 to play Rangers?

  28. Terrystears says:

On the queer eye for the straight guy thing I just got back from
a week in Portugal and they all fucking hate him. I actually liked him as a no 2, we played our best football since the treble under him in 02/03 and 06-08 so I wouldn’t mind him coming back as harsh as that is on Phelan. Btw the papers out there really rate bebes performances so far for Portugal u21

  29. RedScot says:

Follow ,Follow ,Follow, Cos RedScot is going to Glesga. They’ll be thousands of Reds, We’ll be pist out our heids(Thats not new right!) Cos United are going to Glesga.
Canna wait its gonna be fucking brilliant.
Probably get in a fucking scrap in Sauchiehall street or Argyle street. Never near Govan such class people live there. lmao
