Anderson has spoken out to calm worries following his dangerous car accident. It emerged that after clubbing until the small hours in Portugal, Anderson drove his car in to a wall after he lost control.
“I am very lucky because the accident was serious,” said Anderson. “I knew the road well. But the car lost control at a curve and we crashed against a wall. I remember people coming to help, which I am very grateful for. I just want to tell United fans I am fine and I will continue my rehabilitation so I can help the team. I’ve had lots of calls and have assured my friends not to worry, but it was a very big scare for me.”
He’s fine? I assume he hasn’t met up with Sir Alex yet then.

Man Utd News 24/7

“The car lost control” – interesting choice of words.
the real crash will be when you meet sir alex ando!!!!
Massive Anderson fan… think this kid has everything to be a world star… but when is he gonna wake up and smell the coffee.
He is in a position of being where millions of us want to be…. and thats a United player.
He needs to knuckle down… not by saying “dont worry, im fine”… he needs to get fit, not partying… he needs to bust a gut to show not just SAF, but all of us, that he has a future at our club… that he is going to build the future in the team.
I have defended him for a long time… he is young, only 22 i know… but needs to get his act together…otherwise in 10 years time he will be wondering where his career has gone… and just what could have been.
somebody needs to tell Ando he’s not good enough yet to go fucking around like this and get away with it. We’re Manchester United, not Chelsea. This is the kind of shit I expect Cashley Hole or Terry to be involved in.
what about the report on rooney drinking and smoking?
“I knew the road well” – Definitely sounds like he was driving then? I’m glad he’s OK but seriously hope he wakes the fuck up and gets down to business. That’s if it ain’t already too late for him.
Who’s gonna give him a lift to training after his ban?
He isn’t living up to his potential and is acting like a “superstar” before earning that reputation. If he doesn’t shape up this season then SAF might send him packing. I’ve always been a big fan but he needs to prove he’s worth shirt he gets to put on this season.
Hope you have learnt something from it Ando. If not its High time you do
Sean – What about it?
That’s the only good thing to come out of all this. Next time drive safely. Or don’t drive at all if you have been clubbing until 7.
Wonder if Rooney will get punished too for his antics. Not the smartest thing to do. I leave it to the boss. He knows best and will deal with it in his own way
Sean – I agree, I really want to hear a report about Wazza taking a piss….(!)
@Scott
You know Rooney was having a drink and a smoke- shouting on a road for fuck sake- i think he even pissed up against a lane wall
this must be up there with drinking driving sticking 3 people in to a 2 seater car before crashing into a wall and nearly killing at least 3 people
Who the fuck does rooney think he is??? a 24 year old
SELL THAT DISRESPECTFUL SCOUSE FUCKER
Fuck John Terry slept with his mates misses knocked her up paid for the baby to be aborted , and didnt give a fuck really about what he did because he’s Sir John Of Terry, and what did chelsea fans do
they stupidly stood by there captain
Rooney has a piss outside and United fans want blogs to rip him a new one and want him to feel the anger of fergie
Andersons a lucky lad, hope he learns from it. as for Mr Rooney, c’mon mate sort it out i do that sort of thing GOING to work at 6am u lightweight!haha
I was in a similar car crash a few years ago and was also lucky to survive, I’m happy he’s out safe, however it would be nice to see him actually play well for 90 mins (he always seems to run out of steam after an hour) ditch the glitz and knuckle down, i know he’s been injured for quite a few months, but we never hear stories like this about Hargreaves etc do we ? He’s at a crossroads in his career, bust a gut to get back in the first team when he’s fit or otherwise it’s exclusion from the squad and a few cocktails in Wilmslow with Yorkie mulling over what could have been…
Why should we compare anything with terry??. He is a total cunt and plays for a club where it seems they are allowed to bend any rules right from sleeping with his mates misses to taking people illegally on a stadium tour. Had that bastard been at United Sir Alex would have told him to fuck off long back.
In no way are the Rooney and Ando incidents similar. However, is Rooney allowed to smoke and stay up until 5 am during pre season?
AIG
I dont think you read my full comments- Im saying the way terry acted like a cunt and chelsea fans defended him- but rooney has a smoke and united fans run the 24 year old down- some United fans are like spoiled brats sometime
@ghtt
i read it mate and i agree that the 2 incidents are poles apart (ando and Rooney) . I am not saying Rooney should be punished or dida nything drastically wrong but what he did wasnt exactly the smartest. The media are as always blowing it out of proportion though. SAF is a strict disciplinarian so just wondering whether he might take action against Rooney
and Terry is a cunt and so is Gerrard. Is it any surprise that they play for Chelsea and Liverpool??. You will only see players of those 2 clubs get away with things like that and yet their fans defend them. Pathetic.
There’s a big difference between what Anderson did (assuming he was the driver) and Rooney’s actions but I’m not impressed with the behaviour of either. Anderson’s crash was life-threatening and it’s a mercy no-one was hurt. I really hope it helps re-focus him on his footballing future. The Wazza case is different, endangering no-one (although smoking ain’t gonna do him much good) but it may be symptomatic of a deeper problem. I’m all for people in high-pressure jobs being able to let off steam at times, not being in favour of over-rigid regimes of any kind, but from reports Rooney over-stepped the mark in several ways, which is very dis-heartening so close to the start of the season. I hope it’s not (another?) sign that the pressure of expectation is getting to him. I suspect it won’t have gone down too well with his team-mates who’ve been working their butts off and talking about reclaiming the title as an urgent priority. Not for the first time Fergie’s man-management skills will come into play with both of these players. He may get some things wrong, but there’s no-one better at dealing with stuff like this.
Haven’t been impressed with Anderson’s attitude for a while now and this is no exception. After a great start to his United career, his form dipped hugely and incidents like this won’t endear him to the United fans. Fergie is going to tear him a new one.
I think his character is going to show through now. Either he is going to knuckle down and get serious about training or he is going to get shipped out fast. Hope its the former.
GHTT – there’s a difference between wanting to ‘rip him a new one’ and merely observing that his behaviour wasn’t very professional.
I think Giles sums it up perfectly – the intense pressure that professional footballers are under means that they need to let off steam once in a while, but Rooney probably did overstep the mark. Urinating in the street and smoking a cigarette is not very professional behaviour when he’s supposed to be enjoying an extended rest so that he can come back and spearhead a crucially important league campaign for us. Sir Alex has never viewed this sort of behaviour favourably and is unlikely to do so now!
I understand that people are annoyed that he’s been partying but it happens, nearly all of us go out and have a good time, drink driving on the other hand is bang out of order but can you imagine you’ve just had a close to fatal accident, luckily got out and instead of people being worried about your health and stuff, they’re talking about fucking football. I think we need to step back and look at what’s important here, we all love United but the kid almost died and instead of hoping he’s alright we’re all wonder if we’re gonna sell him…
I always remember Scott’s post a while ago about how an airline cabin crew commented on how the United players were the most polite and well behaved of any I’d seen. Playing for Manchester United is about more than being a superbly gifted footballer – you have to set an example off the field too. Anderson and Rooney have both overstepped the mark (though on hugely differing levels, Anderson and his friends are lucky to be alive!) and I would expect that Sir Alex will have words with both.
World of difference between Rooney and the problem child that is Anderson and Dean it’s not illegal to smoke do it myself.
I don’t think Rooney is struggling with the pressure, he just had a poor WC and people are reading too much into that imo. He was silly to have a sly ciggy and i’m sure SAF will have a word with him about that. I’ve already said my piece on Anderson, everyone knows where i stand on this issue, he was extremely lucky not to have suffered a more serious injury, Sir Alex will deal with both.
Correction Sean not Dean
Why’s everyone so concerned wi rooney smoking? It’s rubbish that professional sportsman shouldn’t smoke. Zidane did n he weren’t half bad were he. Don’t know why anyone would b outraged by it. No comparison between that and crashing ur car after a night on the pop
@ willierednut, a silly ciggie? He was drinking and smoking until the early hours of the morning. Ando has acted very unprofessionally, and Wayne did too. That is what is similar about both issues. It’s not about comparing the severity of their actions anyway. Wayne has been caught smoking a number of times. If it was months before the new season then it wouldn’t have been such a big deal, but he knew he’s going to play in the friendly 2/3 days later and the new season is just around the corner. The alcohol and the tobacco he consumed may affect how he plays. Typically Rooney did not get as much stick as Ando did, and he doesn’t deserve as much stick I admit, but many Utd fans turned a blind eye to what Rooney did, some saying it’s nothing wrong, but laid onto Ando.
Heywood is Red – unfortunately for footballers these days, they are exposed to the media 24/7. Whether they like it or not, they are idolised by many children across the world and they should act as a role model to them. I would say that smoking a cigarette and urinating against a wall is not a great example to set. It’s unfortunate that the actions of professional sportsmen are scrutinised so heavily, but on the other hand they are earning obscene amounts of money to do their job – and with this money comes a sense of responsibility.
Of course, you are right that there is no comparison with Rooney smoking and Anderson nearly killing himself and 2 of his friends, but that doesn’t exonerate Rooney from any wrong doing!
knowing the road well must mean the night club to his house is a regular event,for me it seems rooney was having one last night of partying before the season started lets face it who hasn’t had one to many and pissed down a alley on the way home most people who are slagging him thats for sure.people in glass houses.he should quit smoking though thats the dumbest habit in the world
He fellas smoking is bad . It hampers stamina and lung compliance and fucks up the whole body.
Rooney ,berba n kiko should stop smoking ? Choose football or smoking!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah you are really lucky Ando.
Get well soon and wish you luck for the time when you face the Boss.
Fze123 – Rooney probably doesn’t get the same stick as Ando, because he’s done more for the club, or maybe i’m wrong on that, i don’t know. What wazza done was stupid, no doubt about that, but to compare that to what Anderson done is just ridculous, i’m sorry, not having that.
I agree with willierednut – Rooney has done a tremendous amount for the club since he joined and without him we could have been in trouble the last few seasons. Rightly or wrongly that has earned him a bit of a free pass when he fucks up a bit (and it is just a bit).
On the other hand a lot of people are of the increasing impression that Anderson arrived in 2008, won the double and thought he’d “made it” and has done bugger all since, yet he gets on like he’s a superstar. Not only is his incident incomparable to Rooney’s, but we all know Rooney will return to the club and give his all this season – can the same be said of Anderson?
Off topic just read this on yahoo:
“Lassana Diarra is close to securing a move to Manchester United, according to Spanish newspaper AS. Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-time admirer of the Real Madrid midfielder, and it appears the Red Devils are prepared to cough up 24 million euros for the French international.”
Probably balls and in the past I’ve slagged off “Lass” for not doing much else than running around kicking people and being a bit of a twat. But with Hargreaves being a no-go for the forseeable future and Ando’s future looking uncertain we only really have Fletcher that will do the dirty work in midfield at the minute. I for one wouldn’t be too confident with Scholes and Carrick lining up as a midfield two again at Anfield or Stamford Bridge. The price being talked about is ridiculous though and doesn’t seem Fergie’s style at all. Wouldn’t rule out a bid for a similar if less expensive player though.
Anderson doesn’t actually say he was driving and as the police are stating he wasn’t then I will take their word for the time being.
The comment does sound ambigious but again its a portugese report and the translation from Portuguese stories to English stories has hardly been good in recent years with some major translation issues.
Also as someone pointed out on the other thread going to a nighclub in europe isn’t usually the same as going to one in the UK or going to a Tourist nighclub abroad. They are a lot more chilled out and relaxed where the focus isn’t on drinking as much as you can in the shortest time but instead about making a complete night of it. We don’t know Anderson was drinking anyway and even if he was its unlikely tp have been in the same binge style that Rooney no doubt did.
Anderson is getting a lot of stick for doing very little wrong atm. All we know is he was at a nightclub which isn’t a problem in itself and then got in a car (As a passenger according to police) and that the car was a 2 seater but 3 people were riding in it. Many people are just jumping to conclusions due to the press and their own assumptions of what going to a club means in a BRITISH sense.
If more hard info comes out that is condeming them by all means people can lay into him BUT atm he has only made 2 fairly small lapses in judgment and nothing on his part is a major issue atm
Wakey – What are you talking about? going to a club, means going to a club in any sense. Rooney and his party, which included his wife got in to a taxi and went home. We’ll see what SAF thinks it’s a big issue or no, but i suspect he will. I hope to god he wasn’t drinking, or there will be no way back for him, at United any way.
@willierednut
So should we start including going to your local as being in the same league as a club as well then OR going to a local wine bar OR going out for a meal somewhere that serves alcoholic bevearages? Of course not. The ‘ambience’ of a place is important as it dicates your actions subconciously. You are less likely to get pissed in a resturant than a winebar, a winebar than a pub and a pub than a club. There is a difference between a Local European Club than often a English club where there is a pressure and expectation to binge drink.
We don’t know for certain but there is a lot more chance of someone like Rooney attending an English club and getting off his head than someone like Anderson attending a portugese one and being the same because that’s what the English club scene is about and the European one less so. We can’t hold and use English standards when talking about European culture
All this talk of different levels of drinking is irrelevant – if you get drunk and then go driving you’re a prick. End of.
@ scott…….. Y the double standard ROO deserves to be told off to ….i read this article about how fabio capello should be ashamed of rooneys antics, as if he trained him to drink and smoke. Rooney drunken and pissin on street walls is not a reflection on capello but a reflection on english society. Just go to the west end on a weekend to witness a drunken broken society. men and women boys and girls drunken til they drop urinating on every corner and alleyway the girls wouldnt even hide they just stand there drop their undies and do ther biz. As a united fan i dont want read about a fat and skill limited player smoking and drinking id rather hear that he been practicing a dribble…. chicha gonna put him on the bench or back on the left just watch
@bigphil2003
More or less, yeah.
How could everyone in here so sure he was drunk??? give the lad a break for God’s sake .I’m dead sure he’s going to be a massive player for United one day.
I’ve not seen any pictures that show rooney urinating in the street, but then that doesn’t mean he didn’t. But not sure why smoking a cig is seen as being a bad role model. I’m not and never have been a smoker, but thats my choice. Rooney’s choice is to smoke. It’s great living in a democracy, you get to choose! I can educate my children about smoking then when they’re older they can make an informed decision. Rather than just assuming because wayne rooney smokes than my son will because he likes him. Drinking is just as damaging to ur health as smoking, but it’s not half as condemned by people for some reason. I still don’t think it’s an issue of rooney should get chastised, it’s a point of fact that the media scrutinise their every move, but on the whole rooney is well behaved, trains hard, competes well(world cup aside) and is a loving family man. I’d rather he had a few drinks and a laugh pre season than going for night out in dublin during the season behind the managers back
I’m yet to see somebody pulled over by the police for having too many fag’s or some body vomiting down somebody’s back cause they’ve had a fag too much.Seen that with bevvy though,what have we got here the smoke police.
hahaha the car lost control…. ummm yeah sure.
wasnt it around this time last year a major Drug Dealer at Anderson’s home in Brazil?
I was really hoping he’d turn things around like Nani has but it looks like he’s more interested in living that gangsta life style than a United Footballer one.
As for the Rooney stuff… no comparison
only problem with Rooney is he’s always under a microscope with the press
*arrested major drug dealer…
in brazil
Aside from Wayne all over the front pages when the fuck is that story gonna break about Stevie Me and his young bitch up the duff. It 99% happened but fuck all said.
Also why the fuck does EVERY story about United include words like “United who face a challange from their big spending rivals City”? What the fuck has that got to with owt? Right back to the pool.
Difference is (World cup aside which was amusing) Rooney delivers on the pitch. Its time Anderson did the fucking same. Looks 3 stone over weight. Wasn’t Wayne smoking last summer asw ell? Did him fuck all harm last season did it?
Yeah he was king eric but he’s not allowed because it’s being a bad role model. Now if he were seen in a pub wi a pint in his hand(pint for the men, fruit based beverage for the ladies) then thats ok coz we all like a drink right? But smokes a killer so thats wrong. No one has ever died of drink relate….oh hold on yeah they have. Along with drink driving, drink fuelled violence and drink related domestic abuse. But smoking’s just evil ain’t it.
Alcohol is the worst fucking drug of the lot. Thats why I stick to the weed.
sean – So you’ll not be supporting Wayne this season? Anything United do this year, will depend on how Rooney performs, he’s our most important player. We the fans have a duty to support all our players, gods knows, they get enough shit from outsiders, they don’t need it from us as well. ps I do include Anderson i hope SAF can get him sorted out don’t think we can carry anyone this season
Heywood is Red – I guess the difference is that one or two drinks a day is unlikely to have many adverse side effects on your health whereas I imagine one or two cigarettes a day probably would do (eventually).
In response to your earlier post, unfortunately not everyone is as intelligent as you are, and not every parent will fully inform their children of their choice in this respect. I left school only 4 years or so ago, and I can tell you that there are a considerable amount of people who would imitate the actions of their favourite footballers (Beckham’s latest haircuts anyone?) and this could quite easily extend to smoking. Not necessarily because they think it ‘looks cool’ (though this is a possibility for the less educated people out there) but because it gives the impression that smoking is not an impediment to sporting success, going against what they will have presumably learnt in science lessons.
That is why I think Rooney smoking a cigarette is not a good example to children. The wealth and fame his sporting success brings him means that he is responsible for his behaviour, especially as a Manchester United player, as Ferguson has always said the club aims to educate its players off the pitch as well as on it. Whilst I have nothing against him smoking, given that he’s had a long season for both United and England, he should do this in the comfort of his own home where he is not under media scrutiny.
u guys should better leave him alone, for christ sake he just got an accident and u all are criticizing him.
ando, i am waiting to see u play this season and tell death “fuck u” he is not gonna get u just yet. we still love u
@bigphil2003
The police say Anderson wasn’t driving, his agent says the same and Anderson doesn’t say he was driving either.
We can only go on the facts we know and we can’t apply British cultural standards on Europe to make out Anderson has done anything wrong by going out and having fun while injured rather than moping around getting depressed about being injured.
And even if he was driving there is no evidence he was drunk anyway yet some are declaring him guilty.
@willierednut – don’t talk shite, sure he’s fat and has no skill…
@willierednut
i dont agree with u. i think football is team work not rooney’s work alone but we all have to support our players. except berbatov (talking pesonally)
@berba is magic…HAHAHAHAHA!!!
bigphill2003 – lol, it’s funny how we’re told not to jump to conclusions about Anderson, but then some are doing exactly that with Rooney.
asite – Now come on, lets support Berbatov as well.
@bidphil
are u talking about rooney. the one i know is a fantastic player and i bet u clapped those hands of urs last season for him almost every week. so stop talking shit
@willierednut
then he’s got to play well to earn it. i tell u, we lost the last season bcos of him
Sam Smith- I appreciate what ur saying bout your peers looking up to footballer’s as an example, and that not every parent will educate their child. That however isn’t a stick to beat rooney with as some people are. He is only doing what millions of people around the world will do this weekend. And lets not forget if the reports are correct he’s spent the last month or so in camp cappello and he’s about to spend the best part of a year giving his all for us like he has since he’s been here. When exactly is it ok for him to relax? Not a rant at you sam ha.
I’m sorry but don’t see what the big fuss is about Rooney smoking, not as if he does it regularly and the worst thing smoking the odd fag will do is give you bad breath for an hour or so. Having a smoke every now and again is no different to having a pint every now and again, stop acting like having a few cigarettes on his well earned break is going to suddenly destroy him as a player, it’s when he starts doing it regularly that I’ll be up in arms like some of you are. Oh and as for pissing in the street, who hasn’t done that!
@AlexOfMancunia
My impression is that footballers are not allowed to smoke when they are in pre season. Nor are they allowed to stay up late. And Rooney isn’t on a break because he was supposed to play a game in 3 days.
I have never pissed on the street. I would like everyone’s else personal experience on the subject.
Heywood is Red – Yeah of course he needs time to relax and enjoy himself, I guess it’s asking a bit much of every player to be a complete model professional like Giggs and Scholes are! I wasn’t really having a go at Rooney anyway, I just observed that it probably wasn’t the best idea to be caught doing it when he knows the media are still looking for sticks to beat English players with after the world cup!
Costas – unfortunately pissing in the street is a very English thing to do and is the sort of thing that is frowned upon in Europe and, I imagine, Greece!
anderson and rooney in one week – blimey, this must make fergie even more angry!
when i read what rooney did i was quite disgusted because as a father and husband you’d expect him to be a little more dignified than going on all weekend benders and getting so drunk you pee up a wall. i’d never done it, never will do it. rooney come on man, i thought you’d become more mature! i also don’t want manchester uniteds class player to be associated with being a loud-mouthed, drunk idiot scouser!
as for anderson, i’ll give him the benefit of the doubt being a single, young man but he needs to shape up and realise how serious he should about his career. i’m not saying he should be so devoted its all he does and thinks about but he is playing for the greatest club in the world – manchester united and i know he is not always first choice but if he shows passion and more desire to be a first choice that alex will appericate having this man because disappearing like he has done and doing this is not showing fans that he cares that much.
all that said, i believe that anderson can be world class and a key member of our squad. he just needs to put his mind to it more! i still have hope, just like i still had it for nani and he broke through!
@Sam Smith
Don’t want to act like I am above it all or anything. I just find it unusual.
It is probably frowned upon in Europe, but I don’t know for sure. I’ve seen plenty of English, Dutch or German tourists in the Greek islands during the summer, and they get pretty wild once they are wasted. And quite often you see Greeks acting the same.
Sam Smith – I don’t agree with footballers being role models, young kids should look to their parents and not premiership footballers. They are in the spotlight though, and the media are always trying to get the next scoop, so they should always be on guard and try to act responsible.
I have to agree, relieving yourself on the street against the wall is pretty bad, unless you are homeless or something where there is nowhere to go.
but agree with willierednut, lets not forget he is just a football player and not a role model. Kids can emulate his playing style, but not his life style!
On another note, if this was Ladyboy, would he pee standing up or sitting down??
Willierednut – regardless of being a role model, Ferguson has always stressed the importance of Manchester United educating its player off the pitch as well as on it. As you say, he should probably be on his guard a bit more in future!
At least he only has another week or so of pre-season training and then he can start making headlines for the right reasons, he’s had a pretty miserable time of it since getting injured against Bayern!
@wakey, sorry mate was just talking in a general way, not saying ando was guilty of it.
@asite – i was taking the piss mate as some guy earlier said that about rooney. I dont have a bad word to say bout our number ten though i think you should lay off berba a bit.
Im a person with strict discipline thoughts and given the incident between Anderson and Rooney, i’m not very happy. I know its their life but when it concerns united, i have to be involved. I hope fergie can give them some sense into it and make them a better person. These incident is not very good and if they want to carry on with these sorts of things, i hope they better off to other club.
GHTT – do you feel like an idiot now ?
“ooh,ooh it must be daily mail so everyone who believes in the story is an idiot, they’re not true reds because they don’t support MANCHESTER UNITED”
how about an apology ?
you know , your type of fans is one of the main reasons why i’ve grown to hate all the man united forums…it’s because if you dare to say a single bad word about any united player ( because they’re all saints in your eyes ) it makes you no true supporter…but when it turns out that the person who criticized was right and that you were wrong all along then you’re not a man enough to apologize
