Arsenal Boss: Giggs’ Goal Still Hurts

Arsene Wenger’s player of the decade? Ryan Giggs, of course.

“Ryan Giggs is my Premier League player of the decade because he combined style with winning. But his goal in the 1999 semi-final still hurts me.”

Don’t think you’ve seen that goal often enough? Ok, here you go.

Giggsy will tear you apart again!!!!

  2. Christoff says:

The greatest goal in my life time – still get goosebumps watching it!

Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Brilliant, brilliant goal. I remember the game as clear as day – I was at University up in Newcastle at the time (we weren’t the most popular team at the time – loved it!) and in a local boozer and went berserk when Giggsy got that goal (I ended up jumping on someone’s back and going flying). I remember calling Bergkamp all sorts as well when he went up for the penner. Any good stories out there? Scott, where were you mate?

  4. Stretford Ender says:

One of my most loved memories of United, I was there last night and still swear I have never witnessed such a great goal. Everyone forgets Beckham’s on the same night which was also special. Moments like this make the days like Fulham bearable! Good words from Pat today and I hope Benfica do accept our bid for Di Maria….

    VEIEEEEEEEEERRRRRAAAA! WOOOOAAAAHH!
    VEIEEEEEEEEERRRRRAAAA! WOOOOAAAAHH!
    HE GAVE GIGGSY THE BALL!
    AND ARSENAL WON F**K ALL!

That goal is still pant-wettingly exciting to watch….

Oh, and at last…some sense out of Wengers mouth!

Like Fergie said, “He carried his head high and he looked as relaxed and natural on the park as a dog chasing a piece of silver paper in the wind. From that moment on, we protected Ryan like the treasure he was.”
Will always be the spaniel chasing the silver paper!

  7. chuffer says:

Still my favourite United/Giggsy moment ever. My wife gave birth straight after the Blackburn game the week before, had a few complications meaning she was upstairs with 2 little ‘uns on the night of the Arsenal semi. I watched it on my own & screamed my quietest ever scream twice!! Once when the Great Dane denied Bergkamp & again when Giggsy lit up my night with his wonder goal!! I have a signed pic of him firing past Seaman framed & on my wall………….oh what a night………….I’m welling up thinking about it!!!

  8. Don Pablo says:

Wouldn’t you be embarassed to be Giggs at the moment with everyoone singing your praises? Elsewhere Diouf has been granted a work permit. Have a feeling he will surprise most like Obertan did. Apparently he’s the powerful, fast players in the Saha mould. Could come in handy

  9. Paul N says:

Arsenal Fan here, great goal but not the greatest to me, however Giggs is class!

Best United player by miles in recent times and also carries himself like a real gentleman. We need more humble people like this man.

  10. Park's Dog's Dinner says:

I thought Arsene ‘Didn’t see’ THAT goal! Perhaps the many replays that followed finally filled in that ‘blind spot’..

Diouf looks like a Drogbaesque-battering-ram-direct-hard-SAS type
Heard he’s 21 but he looks like a heavy weight already!
JUSt the type of player we need, just hope he has more drive & luck than Manucho…

  11. DaHustler says:

Arsenal fan……great goal…even i was impressed with it when he scored…a goal worthy of winning any game!

Diouf looks good…i just hope he doesnt turn out the same as the last guy UTD bought last year…and then he ended up at Hull…what was his name? Aint seen him since!!! 22 yrs old…time to blossom!

  12. Dani says:

    Not the new Manucho, hopefully.

  13. aig alex is god says:

For once Arsene Wenger cant hide the obvious. Ryan Giggs is and will be the greatest Player ever to have graced the premier League. Sad part is Giggsy is getting all the accolades very late in his career. He has always been a top professional but has been overshadowed by certain players. Cantona from 92-97 ; Beckham 97-02 ; Henry 01-05 and then Ronaldo. Now that the premier League does not have an icon player and Giggs is still giving top performances even at 36 people have started giving him the credit he deserved all these years. As players are moving to other clubs for obnoxious amounts of money and Loyalty is as rare as the number of people who feel John terry isnt a cunt Giggs truly deserves all the accolades he is getting. An example for all aspiring footballers. The fact that dippers, arsenal and rentboys fans themselves dont have a bad word to say against him says it all really.

  14. Fred says:

RAWK will be up in arms about this – another Manc conspiracy!

  15. emporerm says:

As Andy Gray said after the goal, when it comes to talking about Sir Ryan Giggs;’WORDS FAIL ME’

  16. Costas says:

    Fair play to Wenger.

  17. Its in my blood says:

That goal was inline with the whole season, unbelievable!
Even when we go on to do the quadruple, we will never have another season like that!
The Arse may well have gone on to do the double if it wasn’t for Giggs moment of genius, it broke them in the league as well.
Still get all emotional remembering it. Those nights are the ones you live for!

  18. I am just Dimitar says:

I will never forget that goal, nor Giggs awesome chest hair.

  19. Fze123 says:

You can never get bored of that goal again and again. Truly unforgettable. I bet Wenger still has nightmares about it.

  20. bchilds says:

First bit of sense Arsene Wenger has come out with for ages!

  21. Kings says:

I will never tire of that goal.

  22. rooney the new king says:

classic giggs at his best. off the topic roy keane has shown he is a total legend on the comments he said about sparky after he got the sack, keane is totaly right after he had such a good career at united he should not have gone near them, keane said himself he would never go near the place.

  23. Jake says:

    which decade’s that then…?

  24. droylsdenred says:

What an incredible goal. I was in me final year of school in exile in Austrlaia and was watching that at about 3 or 4 in the morning!! Still gives me goosebumps!

I was lucky enough to be wished a Happy Birthday from Giggsy back when he was a fresh faced yougster in 1991, 18 years ago and still going strong!! Oldham 1-0 at home Choccy McClair winner!

Good to see some Arsenal fans on here giving a bit of credit to the great man as well. Credit to you.

  25. themarkedman72 says:

thankyou for the xmas present arsene.

  26. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Good! I’m glad it still hurts.

  27. keano86 says:

that moment was responsible for the first time I ever swore in front of my mam. “PASS THE FUCKING BALL TO YORKE!!” 3 seconds later the balls in the net and my brothers screamin ” tom jones tom jones!” at giggsy chest haha.

just as good a moment was the look on anelkas face when he realised his goal was offside after celebrating for fifteen minutes

  28. RedAlert260599 says:

Isn’t Arsene mellowing towards us lately? I remember him saying that out of United’s entire squad only David Beckham would get in the Arsenal team. Time has changed him.
I was at the game. I was shouting at Giggsy to pass the ball! What do I know?
One of the coldest nights ever – warmed up by Sir Ryan.
Did anybody know what made him go on that run? A couple of minutes earlier Vierra had given him a clip round the ear. It did the trick and woke him up.

  29. arun_mancuniano says:

Viera – oh, oh, oh, oh-
Viera – oh, oh, oh, oh-
    He gave Giggsy the ball
    And Arsenal won f*ck all…
