Berb: Arsenal May Be Great… But We Are Manchester United!

Manchester United are through to the semi-finals of the European Cup again thanks to a brilliant goal from Cristiano Ronaldo against Porto.

Dimitar Berbatov believes playing against another English side will make it different for us, although is confident of us progressing.

“The Arsenal games are going to be great for everybody to watch and I know it is going to be difficult,” said Berbatov. “They are a great team. But we are Manchester United, so I think we are going to win. We are determined to defend this trophy and the fact we now have to face another English team makes it a little bit different. But we should still be confident.”

Berbatov was complimentary of his team mates, hailing Ronaldo special and our defence incredible.

“It was a very special goal,” Berbatov added. “Cristiano gives everything he can in every game. Sometimes you need a special player to do something out of the ordinary. Cristiano delivered. Our defence is incredible. They have been tremendous for us all season and deserve so much credit for their performances. The major reason we are in the position we are at the moment is because of our defenders and I want to thank them.”

Just imagine if our middfield and strikers had played half as well as the defenders, we would have made the hat trick of Premierships by now.
Nevertheless, if we have to do it the hard way, so be it.

Porto should be turning point, and I expect the lads to give us some unforgettable memories by the end of May.

  2. costas says:

Plenty if chances for them to do sip Xyth. From this Sunday until the Arsenal league game,it’s 9 games in 27 days. This season has been a marathon. We have played so many games that the one at the Emirates looks like it was from last season.

  5. Coogie says:

Jonny – What is, which part?

  7. costas says:

They do talk too much.At least i like his line about the defenders.

  8. Jonny says:

nah, i’m just trying to rile you up- “They are a great team. But we are Manchester United, so I think we are going to win.” he probably didn’t mean it like it sounds.

  9. Coogie says:

Its this arrogant attitude that has led to a drop in performances as of late, jesus if we are going by form arsenal will whoop us! Show abit of respect they are playing better than us and are on better form, the last thing they need is more motivation with stupid comments like that, i.e. Wazzas before the Liverpool game!

  10. wazza says:

last night’s result just proves to all the players that success doesn’t come easy.they had to work their socks off & continue in the remaining games

  11. javan says:

Berba is feeding of the adrenalin that is surging through the club after a win like that, lets hope he can add some much needed goals between now and the end of the season!
Then we can be even more optimistic about what trophies remain on offer.
But I wouldn´t say that he is being arrogant or be-littling Arsenal,he acknowlegdes Arsenal are a great team but he obviously see´s the club as the one that can overcome the gunners and win, which is good news for us and hopefully we will see Berba come to the fore in the next few crucial weeks!

  12. fillmore dellridge says:

Why Coogie! A wise one of you lot… never did think I’d see the day! A modest manc. AIG, AIG, AIG, AIG, where them with shame.

  20. deathorvictory-mufc says:

    United’s flag is deepest red,
It shrouded all our Munich dead,
Before their limbs grew stiff and cold,
    Their heart’s blood dyed it’s ev’ry fold.

    Then raise United’s banner high,
Beneath it’s shade we’ll live and die,
So keep the faith and never fear,
We’ll keep the Red Flag flying here.

We’ll never die, we’ll never die,
We’ll never die, we’ll never die,
We’ll keep the Red flag flying high,
‘Cos Man United will never die

  21. King Eric says:

Ha ha Costas its a good point is that! Dunne was a disgrace, team captain, needing one goal and he goes and makes a challenge that he does’nt even need to make. Idiot. What was up with Richards? He could barely fuckin run after eighty odd minutes. Said it before and I say it again they are a laughing stock. Not gonna even make Europa thingy next season as really can’t see them getting seventh spot. Jokers.

  22. gotta hate tiny tears says:

costa that is such an amazing fact

  23. Big Goon says:

Hey mancs. Looking forward to the semi finals. Fergie and Wenger are evenly matched.

    Played: 37
    Arsenal wins:15
    Draws: 8
    ManU wins: 14

Its going to be a tough call. But with so many injuries to our defense, i reckon yall have the upper hand. Our best chance is to attack and try to out score yall, so these will be 2 very entertaing and unpredictable games. I cant wait!

  24. gotta hate tiny tears says:

since my 2 year old(3 on monday) has been born united have won 6 trophys
they are also in 2 semi finals and top of the league.

  25. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    sorry 5 trophys
    league cup
    2 leagues
    world champions
    european champions

  26. Genre Kelly says:

Sounds to me like old Andy Garcia is shitting himself, we used batter him when he was at spurs and we’re going to batter him now he’s with you lot. At least he was a decent player at spurs, he’s been shit for you, 30 million? We got Nasri and Arshavin for that, and still had enough left over for a nice bottle of Montrachet 1978 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and a prawn baguette.
    We is a class act

  27. costas says:

And as i said above City have won 5 trophies since 69.We could overhaul that in the next 6 weeks.

Hey Big Goon.I expect Ferguson to be a bit more compact than he was the last time we played Arsenal. But they should still be intriguing games. They have been evenly matched, with Wenger always slightly ahead.

  28. Scott the Red says:

Next time we play Arsenal I’d like to think the decisive goal won’t be a deflection for Arsenal and I’d like to think Rafael will be playing from the start.

  29. Genre Kelly says:

I liked how our old spurs mate Berbatov headed that ball down for Nasri to smash it in. He always wanted to play for us and that was the closest he ever got, best assist of his career, nice work on helping it in as well. best 1-2 of his carreer. He only played for us for a few seconds but became a legend.

  30. Scott the Red says:

    Genre – God you’re sad.

Who would have thought it was so easy to become a LEGEND for Arsenal these days. Things have changed a lot down there since you stopped winning trophies eh?

  31. Gary says:

Once again Mr Ego talking a better game than he actually ever produces. Another poor performance from Berbatov last night. I can not defend a man who puts in such little effort and then takes then claims we will knock out Arsenal because “We are Manchester United”

Less talk, more action hey! I cant say I have ever dis-liked a United player ever before. We have had bad buys before, but even when the likes of Diego was struggling he still gave it his all and it en-deared him to us, not like this prick who prances round the pitch like a fucking pansy.

  32. Genre Kelly says:

Scott the red is actually calling Berbatov an Arsenal legend!
Read my excellent post again but pretend you are Chandler from friends, you might actually get it.
We postponed winning trophies so that we could build the best training facility in England and the best stadium in the premiership all while staying debt free. We even had a crack at property development, Arsene is a big Sarah Beeny fan.
Now we have done all that we are ready to take our trophies back, we have room for them now, Highbury was nice but just a bit too small.
See you in the semis, bring your best players, we dont want you making any excuses this time.

  33. Liam says:

eh what age are you Genre. I ask because ‘We is the best’ really doesn’t hold much weight in a debate. What trophies btw? you haven’t won the league since the invincibles. Oh and don’t worry, Wazza’s on his way.

  34. waynethepain says:

I really dont understand what Arsenal fans want here, its pathetic. I dont even know if they have a blog of there own.I am speechless..i just dont know what to say…sad really GENRE KELLEY, the name says it all

  35. Kevin says:

While he might be overly confident about Arsenal he is saying the right things and giving credit to a defense who played well on Wednesday. Arsenal are playing well but have not really been tested as of late. Lets analyze Arsenal’s current run… Arsenal’s last loss was against Porto. Since then they have played Liverpool (draw), Villa (draw), Everton (draw), Tottenham (draw), Roma (PK Shootout win), and of course Villarreal who was minus arguable their most valuable player. The rest are games Arsenal should have won and to their credit they have. We have had a drop in form at the moment while Arsenal have been getting results and scoring goals. It will not be an easy tie even though we are Manchester United.

While Berba may be inaccurate he is trying to show a sense of confidence that he has in his team. I have no problem with him making these comments at all and applaud him for his comments on the defense. Our defense who looked better against Porto. Not perfect nor as good as it needs to be but improved. I didn’t think he played that poorly as some of you have indicated. He was on the receiving end of some really rough treatment in Portugal and I thought he played through it. He was coming of an injury spell on the bench and it was clearly visible that he was not 100%. He misplaced some easy passes but played his role and got involved in some good patches of play.

  36. Marq says:

Like I said, Genre said he has been visiting this blog for some time, now he is speaking when they have some good results. He was probably hiding in some hole when Arsenal was all over the place earlier in the season, well done for a fan saying their team is the best huh?

Arsenal, debt free? Believe what you would, but there is a reason why they sold their soul of a stadium to some arabs. And Wenger really do not want to buy big? Its probably because they do not have the money for it. If something happens to your finances, how bout having a fancy of playing at White Hart Lane as your home ground?

  37. BrisbaneRed says:

“since my 2 year old(3 on monday) has been born united have won 6 trophys
they are also in 2 semi finals and top of the league”

You could also add that in her short life she’s seen UTD win more trophies than City, Arsenal and ‘Pool PUT TOGETHER.

  38. BrisbaneRed says:

    ‘pool fans = arsenal fans.

Win a few games and they think they’re world beaters.

    Pathetic and immature.

  39. Jig says:

Thought Berb’s contribution was a lot better against Porto, his end result was poor – passing, delivery & penetration – but he was getting involved, tracking back, tackling, running and most importantly trying.

Some days everything you touch goes ass over tit but you gotta get involved and I thought he did that well. If he keeps up that level of involvement and concentration the rest will follow. I’d love to see the guy do well, he’s got fantastic talent but hasn’t clicked into the Utd way yet. Some get it first season then hit the second season syndrome, some start poor and grow into it, let’s hope he’s one of the latter.

The one thing I always wonder when I watch him play; did nobody tell him to ‘give and go’ when he was 6 years old playing in the local park? He passes the ball, turns his back and strolls off into the sunset, bizarre to say the least.

  40. nickynicknick says:

Theres no way round it tho, Berba is in no way a £30M player.
He looked good in a crap Spurs team and manufactured his way to a bigger club. OK, so most squads would look better with him in, but none of the top 4 could see him as an improvement.
Bad buys could yet be the downfall of United.

  41. Gary says:

Proof today if you ever needed it, that Berbatov is a useless twat! He should be ashamed of himself, that penalty was disgusting!
