Berb: Rooney Got Three Assists Yesterday!

Wayne Rooney opened the scoring for Manchester United yesterday, before giving a dreadful passback to the goalkeeper which resulted in a Hull penalty. Rooney then went on to amend for his mistake by assisting a further two goals, which Dimitar Berbatov has revealed left the players claiming Rooney had assisted all of the goals yesterday.

“Wayne did fantastic for us – we were joking in the dressing room that he had three assists to his name!” said Berbatov. “He bounced back after their goal and made both the second and third ones which was great. If he can keep playing the way we know he can then I don’t think anyone can stop him. He’s still young and the future is ahead of him.”

I read the rumours . . . . Real Mad-kids want our wayne now! Fuck Off he is no Ronaldo… He knows his future is here Ronaldo isnt even sure how long he will be at the Bernaboobs. . .

    SPot on Berba

Now only if both of you can develop a better understanding and do better as a partnership

  5. Fze123 says:

Well said Berbatov. After his mistake yesterday, Rooney was simply amazing, he set out to bring the team back into the game, it was a great response from him. Can Ronaldo please stop telling the press that Rooney has all the qualities to become the best in la liga, he would be perfect at real madrid, etc. It won’t affect Wayne at all but he needs to understand that not all players are like him. Some actually spend their whole career at Utd, which is exactly what Rooney is intending to do.

  6. spencer says:

RM don’t even want Rooney. They want Villa and it is well documented. The Rooney rumours came from a few polite words from Ronaldo (in which he also said he would be better of staying at United). The same rumours which said Barcelona would pay 85 million.

And you are right Wayne wonder, he is no Ronaldo because their whole backgrounds are different and as Rooney has said time and time again that his family live here and he was born and bred in the north-west. So when you are playing for united and those are your circumstances (that rooney has), as well as being a regular, you will be expected to stay at united for as long as they want you

  7. spencer says:

    RE: FZE123

The quote from Ronaldo was done two months ago. it was in a foreign magazine which i can’t remember and was picked up on by papers then and it has simply been re-used by marca when making up a story which the mirror jumped on. ronaldo is simply being polite. he has also said rooney is better of staying at united and that whenever they do speak on the phone, it is never about rooney leaving. when ronaldo is asked if rooney would be good in spain and at real madrid, would you rather he said ‘nah. he would be useless. no team in the world would want him. i am embaressed to have ever played with him’. i am sure rooney would be delighted to hear that from someone he has put plenty of praise on over the years…..NOT

  8. pawaka21 says:

IMO, berba do need a running type of forward and who can create things and read his touch and passes, just as what robbie keane use to support him during his time in spurs. and rooney fits the bill perfectly. but the main issue is both of them seem to drop back too deep, end up nobody will be in the opponents box when the ball do come. plus, we lost our main penetration point this season in ronaldo absence. when valencia do penetrate, then we can see the chances to score goal is there. just look at spurs, the main assault will be done from the flank, especially on lennon flank, and united after all these years produce the best flank players in giggsy, becks and ronaldo. so we need berba to sit in the box while rooney and valencia plays the ball inside the box to him, provided valencia change his game with every defender that he plays, not too one dimension i should say

  9. Aig alex is god says:

@Spencer.i feel ronaldos feelings about wazza are genuine.the 2 of them clicked really well at united.ronaldo will never enjoy playing more with anyone as much as he did with rooney.they were on the same wavelengths most of the time.ronaldo can very well talk shit about united and rooney because he is no longer at united.however it seems both of them have utmost respect for each other.

  10. King Eric says:

aig – Hi mate . spot on with your last post. Truth is Ronaldo does not have anyone like Rooney at the fascists. There is only one Wayne Rooney.

  11. Corea says:

Berba is a decent man who knows what United is all about and respects the club and it’s traditions.
    A little offtopic.
In order to create chances in the opposition’s final third there are 2 variants.
One is to have good wing players, the other is to have a midfield with players like Scholes in it. Do we have anything of these right now ?

  12. pawaka21 says:

corea: spot on mate. in those days, when scholesy still a young talented footballer, yes we do. and then fergie try to replace him with veron, kleberson, and now ando. but still, i dont think any of them even at par with scholesy standard. we do need a player like scholesy who can penetrate the defence with splitting passes, and oh a thunderbolt too

  13. Kings says:

Fuck off Madrid you facist corrupt fucking cunts. Rooney would never fuck us over the way Ronaldo did.

  14. Corea says:

    @ pawaka21

i kinda liked the idea of trying to shoot more from outside the 16 meter area during some of the games in December. Gibson tried some. 50% of the attempts were awful but he scored some. Besides Gibson no one tries them right now. it is another area we should improve on.

  15. wayne says:

roony has said many times he wants to emulate gigsy and will stay at utd his whole career.its clear he’s very tight with his family and made a decision to settle down and start his own at a young age.roony is going the scholes, giggs route ronaldo has gone for the fame playboy style.who wouldn’t want roony on their team he’s world class,i think ronaldo’s comments about his affection for the club, manager, roony etc are genuine,he’s finding out what its like playing with rentboys instead of teamates that care for each other

  16. pawaka21 says:

corea: only gibbo seems to have guts in long shot. i do believe carrick has the ability to shoot, just as what he did in wigan last year and against roma, but then he seems to had very low confidence. gibbo have a very good eye for goal, and his long shot resemble bobby in his heydey, with 2 foot off the ground, ando? very terrible shot, infact he never managed a thunderbolt as long as i can remember. we do need somebody like gibbo and hope that he will feature more and improve his passing skills

  17. so it goes says:

I agree with Corea and others. Yet again no decent crosses from the wingers and little creativity in the midfield. We need another solid winger and a young Scholesy that can perform every week (because Giggs and Scholes can’t).

Look at how the only threatening cross came from Fletcher and what happened. We desperately need this to be fixed (along with the corner-taking) for the team to start beating other teams for fun. Berba and Rooney are both underperforming because of this dodgy service.

  18. King Eric says:

so it goes – “a young Scholesy”. Yeah like who mate? They ain’t ten a penny.

  19. Sunny says:

Well Berba, how many assists did you create yesterday? All he did all match was to be in the right location for Rooney’s brilliant pass. I thought Berba was awful yesterday, no influence at all on proceedings. I have given him the benefit of doubt for 18 months now but 5 goals so far this season is just not good enough for a United #9. How long do we have to wait until he either comes good or gets sold? Probably until the summer, which means we might loose out on the 4th title while waiting. He does not seem to react well to pressure, which he just have to at the worlds biggest club.

Rooney reacts to pressure amazingly well, that is why he is a winner and a fan favourite. Berba is the opposite and I am sorry to say as he is great to watch – sometimes.

Perhaps an idea would be swapping Berba for David Villa in January?

  20. King Eric says:

Sunny – Yeah I agree mate, I wasn’t impressed either but swap for Villa? Won’t happen mate. Above all else Fergie rarely buys Spaniards. Bit unfair to say we may miss out on a title because of him. He actually scored some important goals in the league last season. Newcastle and Bolton spring to mind. This season Blackburn and Sunderland. Needs to knuckle down though.

  21. Rotegzy says:

How I wish we are not carried away by the victory and give attention to some salient details of the match.Still our performance was worrisome. It was poor by my estimation and I don’t think we should give the injuries excuses because it was not just at the back if at all the back was tighter yesterday but the middle and the attack was sloppy.Giggs was horrific and berba kept passing dangerously to his teammates.Up until he scored and made them score us,Rooney was not himself.Picture this, that perfromance against any of the big 4 or a disciplined team in europe……..

  22. so it goes says:

King Eric: You are absolutely correct. But that doesn’t really mean we should not be looking or that we should just settle for average.

  23. King Eric says:

so it goes – Fergie will be looking , I am sure. With more consistency and when he matures Anderson may well be that man. Or Gibbo.

  24. so it goes says:

And people should lay off Berbatov a little. He is coming from injury and played just as bad as Rooney (even better until Rooney transformed) but still he gets all the blame.

And being on the receiving end of a great pass is not just luck. He positioned himself there. And he is very often in such good positions but the players pass the ball to worse positioned Rooney instead. And many times Rooney simply shoots (off target) instead of passing to Berba.

  25. emonod says:

@Sunny-Much as I love Villa, I doubt Fergie would go for a forward. I think he should offload Nani and get a decent winger to partner Valencia who I think has been impressive. David Silva maybe? He’s a damn good player who has already said he would love to play at United.

  26. so it goes says:

King Eric: I agree. I think they will be in time. But I don’t expect it this year.

  27. kel says:

Yeah. We need players that can penetrate well from the flanks and central area. However, scholes and giggs is getting older and they can’t do it anymore. Valencia can but he needs space to do it. If he can improve his left leg, i believe it can create more space by himself. We need someone like scholes type of player. Anderson shooting is bad however, he do have splitting pass and if he can consistently provide it, i believe it could do good for him. Gibson shooting is good but not on the same level as scholes who can do splitting pass and powerful shot and can create space out of nowhere. After many years, many players come and none had reach the level of scholes. For me, scholes is underrated by others. Many fame and credits goes to giggs. If we can get a scholes calibre players, i think we can go on to win more trophies for the next few years.

  28. 20legend99 says:

@wayne – I completely agree. I think Ronnie misses his mates at OT. Just look at when Benzema scored after Ronnie missed that pen. Don’t think that would have happened at United. Playing with the Facists at te Bernabutt ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Once a Blue, always a Red. Wazza is ours you fucking cunts.

  29. sahahaha says:

Well done Rooney, Berbatov, YOU WERE SHITE…AGAIN! How many shit performances can one man have

  30. vds says:

i surely think we need a left midfeilder…giggs is playing very good…but he wont be playin like that all season he was poor against hull he misplaced many passes..i think we shud get silva..and then we wud be complete…and speakin about berba he is v.important maybe he doesnt score alot but he helps open play into wingers better than rooney and with silva there we wud be unbeatable

  31. Fred says:

Sahahaha, that’s outrageous. Berbatov was brilliant yesterday, like he always is. If you think otherwise you obviously don’t understand football.

Off topic: any truth in the rumours Real and Barca are preparing £75m bids for Berbatov?

  32. denton davey says:

so it goes: ” the only threatening cross came from Fletcher and what happened.”

Wrong ! Valencia’s ONLY contribution was a very good cross to Giggs that Ryan tried to volley back across the goal and hit it a bit too hard; and the ball that Wayne Rooney crossed to ThreeLungPark led to the own-goal, UTD’s second.

But, if you are wrong in the details, then the general thrust of your claim is correct – Valencia did fuck-all besides that one cross in the fifth or sixth minute; Obertan was farcical; Giggs was woeful on the day. Since Nani didn’t play – and wasn’t even on the subs’ bench – at least he can’t be blamed. And, Tosic can’t be blamed for the insipid attack, either. It does go to show how hard it is to beat a bunch of plodders like Hull when only one forward shows up for work – and despite scoring one and making two other assists – even Wayne Rooney wasn’t exactly keeping control of the ball on a consistent basis.

Fred – keep up the Berba-sarcasm; it brings a very thin smile. I would think, however, that the much-rumoured seventy-five million bid for Berbatov would likely be from MiddleEastLands.

  33. denton davey says:

Actually, I was wrong – Wayne Rooney made one goal and three assists – one to Dimmy, one for the own goal, and the third one that led to Hull’s goal.

  34. Fred says:

Exactly, Davey – that was the point of Berbatov’s joke. Try to keep up!

See, not only is he the most-feared striker in world football, he’s a comic genius!

  35. Drew Vader says:

Fred — the Real Barca 75 mil rumor made me laugh as well

  36. King Eric says:

Fred – What is with the constant sarcasm?

  37. peposhi says:

Berba was as bad as Rooney in the last game… but he gets the stick obviously.

  38. alinaabbamancesterutd says:

    Rooney is genius,keep up.

  39. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

And how must one perform with an injury? Tell me you make runs, track back and do some good assists with an injury and then you continue on with the Berbatov sarcasm.

I stand by the man. He is genius. Period.

  40. Datnana says:

Dimi has quality, no doubt, but though i love his touches, he’s been so far very poor for United. I’m really getting impatient. Don’t say he’s injured, ‘cos if he were Fergie would not play him. We can’t amend United’s standards because of him. Let’s accept that we are not getting what we bargained for, we’ve made a mistake and move on. Even smaller teams do not fear us any longer. We need to be a threat moving forward and for that alone shittie tevez offers more. So frustrating.

  41. Fred says:

    @”Dimitar Berbatov is King”

“And how must one perform with an injury? Tell me you make runs, track back and do some good assists with an injury and then you continue on with the Berbatov sarcasm.”

To put it in perspective, Fernando Torres has been hampered by a hamstring injury all year. It has kept him out of several Liverpool games this season but he was rushed back to face United, not 100% fit. The result? Torres produces one moment of magic; an explosive run and finish. Just one moment but it proved decisive.

Want more persepective? Cristiano Ronaldo was carrying an ankle injury throughout last season. He still managed 25 goals, a total we can only dream about Berbatov achieving.

Two examples of world class forwards carrying their teams despite also carrying injuries that require surgery. In your opinion, how do you think “King” Berbatov compares to those two players? From the way people like you go on about him, I expect you’ll tell me they’re not fit to lace Berba’s boots…

The problem with Berbatov is not his injury. He was supposed to take us to the next level but he has been completely underwhelming since he signed. He is a very good player, just not a Manchester United player.

  42. King Eric says:

Fred – Whilst I agree with some of your last post mate Torres has been fucking shocking this season. Typically not against us though. Watch him bag a fucking hat trick tonight now!

  43. Park's Dog's Dinner says:

@ Fred, Berbatov was NOT ‘supposed to take us to the next level’
    That’s just your expectations mate.

Comparing Berba to Ronaldo & Torres (as strikers) is in itself farsicle
Ronaldo & Torres are one-offs, they make ANY PLAYER (Drogba, Berba, Rooney…) look average over a season

I love Berba, but agree he is in poor form.

I firmly believe he is a player that will play as well as the players around him

He’s not a ‘game-changer’ like Ronnie, Ladyboy et al… but he gives that pivot/targetman/assisting dimension that we don’t have otherewise.

Just face facts, United have been below par all season. Not Berba’s fault.

PS. Were the Berba-bashers saying this when he did Dunne on the by-line last year? or when he scored that over-head kick vs Sunderland ot help secure a point (Rooney did FUCK ALL that game!)

All I’m saying is that accept him for what he is, and maybe you might just like your own player ffs!
Keep drooling over Villa, Ladyboy, Ronnie et al, and you expose yourself to disappointment every time he doesn’t get explosive/beat3defenders/score a hattrick….

It is what it is kids!

  44. King Eric says:

Parks Dog Dinner – Good post. One thing though , you said he did Dunne on the byeline. Did you mean the Hammers at home game?

  45. King Eric says:

To be fair to Fred , Phelan or Mulensteen DID say that he would take us to the next level. Renee said that on RedCafe the other week. Lets hope he is right.

  46. Park's Dog's Dinner says:

    @ King Eric,

Cheers mate. Meant that by-line ‘jedi’ turn he did last year vs shitty, then squared it in for a Ronnie tap in! Absolute class!!

    http://www.soccer-training-info.com/berbatov_turn_ronaldo_goal.asp

^^only vid I could source at work without getting MI5 involved…

The ‘write up’ could even knock some sence into some spoilt fans too! :OP

Quick query, If it weren’t for Rooney & Berba supplying Ronnie with tap-ins (and his peno-role FK), would he have managed 15 goals last year? I doubt it.

ooh, and another, IMO Assists are the 2nd most important stat for a forward. and prob the most important for wingers and midfielders. If the man is such a dud, why did he top our club & The Prem in assists last year?

  47. King Eric says:

Park’s Dog’s Dinner – Yeah it was West Ham game mate. It was James Collins he turned, not Citeh. If only these pieces of genius were more often then I don’t think anyone would criticise him.

  48. denton davey says:

King Eric: “Whilst I agree with some of your last post mate Torres has been fucking shocking this season.”

Usually I agree with you but not this time – Torres singlehandedly “won” the match for TheVermin @ Anfailed and again today he was the difference-maker that kept their hopes for a top-four finish alive.

Really, what Torres has provided to LiverPoo is that decisive difference which is precisely what Berbatov has not. Torres is the kind of player who can be quiet for 92 minutes and then – POW ! – he does something crucial.
In contrast, Dimmy is in the middle of things – literally, in the middle when he should be up-front – and makes all sorts of subtle flicks that have fuck-all to do with changing the result.

  49. denton davey says:

Park’s Dog’s Dinner: “Just face facts, United have been below par all season. Not Berba’s fault.”

I would vehemently disagree with that assessment – he is supposed to be the #9 at the point of the attack. Usually, he’s missing-in-action.

And, ask yourself, what did he do to help the team when the defence was out-of-action ? SweetFuckAll whereas LittleMikey played on the shoulder of the defenders and got a hat-trick when he was given the chance in a crucial game against Wolfsburg.

Playing for UTD means that any #9 striker is going to get service – maybe it’s not been as good as in years past but in almost every game UTD have played this year the opposition has been on the back foot. It’s Dimmy’s job to drive a stake into their hearts. Five goals – five goals ! – doesn’t exactly compute with Dracula’s chances.

Five goals makes Darren Bent look like Superman. Even LouisLouisHaHa has ten goals.

  50. Scott the Red says:

Denton Davey – Maybe the service hasn’t been as good this year? Ryan Giggs has our highest number of assists and he’s missed a quarter of our games this season. I mean, you don’t need stats to prove it, but I’d say our service this season has been poor, not just “not as good as in years past”. Berbatov has our second highest number of assists this season.

Darren Bent has played in all 20 of Sunderland’s games this season whilst Berbatov has missed over a month of the season through injury, something he is still playing through (with injections). Hardly a fair comparison is it. The fact that Bent is the second highest scorer in the league shouldn’t be used as a stick to beat Berbatov with.

  51. King Eric says:

denton davey – denton I have watched just about every dippers game and like I say aside from the game against us ever since then Torres has been awful. Petulant, moaning and bitching non stop. He was abysmal tonight but like a typical World class player, one touch and that’s the three points. Cannot agree that he has played well of late mate.

  52. Fred says:

Denton Davey – spot on. That’s exactly what I was trying to say.

“Berbatov was NOT ’supposed to take us to the next level’
    That’s just your expectations mate.”

Oh I do apologise for having high expectations of a £31m striker of whom Fergie said “This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football. His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I’m sure he will be a popular player with the fans.” What WAS he supposed to do? Take us backwards? If so, he’s done a fine job so far.

“Comparing Berba to Ronaldo & Torres (as strikers) is in itself farsicle
Ronaldo & Torres are one-offs, they make ANY PLAYER (Drogba, Berba, Rooney…) look average over a season”

I was anticipating someone saying it’s not fair to compare Berba with Torres – what kind of reflection on Berbatov? Bit more perspective for you, Park’s Dog’s Dinner, Torres cost around £24m, Berba cost £31m. Is it unreasonable to compare our £31m striker to a £24m striker? Who do you think is better value for money?

I take no pleasure in being proved right in this particular instance but Torres did it again tonight. Liverpool shite for 90 minutes, Torres barely involved, then he gets half a chance in the 92nd minute and it’s wham-bam-thankyou, ma’am. Goal. 3pts to Liverpool.

“I firmly believe he is a player that will play as well as the players around him”

Just the kind of character we need when the chips are down then, eh?

“He’s not a ‘game-changer’ like Ronnie, Ladyboy et al… but he gives that pivot/targetman/assisting dimension that we don’t have otherewise.”

Sorry but for £31m, with his reputation? I want a fucking game-changer, mate.

  53. Fred says:

That’s the last thing I’m gonna say about Berbatov. I’m tired of criticising one of our own players so much.

I want to see Berbie do well. It was nice to see him smiling after his goal on Sunday. From now on on, I’m behind Berbatov all the way, starting with Wigan tonight.

  54. cantona7 says:

haha that joke left a sour taste. I am sure Rooney takes no pleasure from it.

And i cant imagine Rooney even considering Real move.. He is no Stevie Me, no John Terry. And he is not at some Liverpool or Chelsea, he is at Manchester United!

  55. Scott the Red says:

Fred – Berbatov scored 14 goals in his first season. Cantona scored 9. It’s a shame so many of our fans would turn on one of our own so easily. The fickleness of modern football.

  56. Fred says:

I know. I agree. Berbatov is definitely better than Cantona, as your stat proves.

  57. denton davey says:

I agree with Fred – and disagree with King Eric, Scott, and Park’s Dog’s Dinner.

Dimmy has been a huge disappointment. No matter how you dress up your arguments with statistics and/or excuses or “explanations”, it seems to me that the guy has simply not been able to get with the team concept.

I’ve never doubted his skills but what use are those skills when he’s scored just 19 goals in a season and one-half (14 last year and 5 so far this year) when he’s had the chance to play with exceptional players like Wayne Rooney – and CR and Carlitos last year. And, I’m not saying that he hasn’t shown off those skills – the fantastic play against West Ham last year, the wonderful volley against ???? about a month ago.

The point I keep coming back to is that he hasn’t done much to improve the team. Indeed, I would go further and argue that he has actually impeded this team’s progress and slowed down its play. Furthermore, one would expect that the man who was given TheKing’s #9 would do a whole lot more than score only 19 goals in a season and a half !

I’ve come to this conclusion reluctantly and with a great deal of frustrated optimism. I thought that he would be a good addition to the team – but, unfortunately, all the evidence seems to me to point in precisely the opposite direction. To my way of thinking, Dimmy has been much, much more of a disappointment than Nani (Nani ! ffs !!) who has never had a regular, consistent run in the first team in his preferred, right-sided position. Yet it’s the marginal 23-year old who gets grief for being the cause of all UTD’s woes – not the 29 year-old who has been given every opportunity to shine.

Right now, I reckon that SAF would get shot of Dimmy IF he could find a replacement without breaking the bank. Since that seems unlikely – all the evidence seems to suggest that there is no one that has been lined up for January – I figure that SAF will persist with Dimmy until the end of the season but that he will actually play him less and less.

I wrote the other day that the failure of Berbatov to grasp the nettle and show himself to be a proper UTD striker has created a fantastic window-of-opportunity for KikoTheKid, Danny Welbeck, Mame Biram Diouf, and maybe even Josh King. These four are young, raw, and inexperienced but they have the speed to give UTD what is missing from its attack – a spear-head.

SAF has always been willing to give kids a chance to show that they’re good enough and he’s usually been a very astute judge of character so he’s unlikely to put his confidence in a guy who doesn’t have the make-up to shine on the big stage. Jonny Evans, Anderson, and the Da Silva twins have all been given the chance to strut their stuff even though not one of them was over 21 when they were given that responsibility. Before them, Wayne Rooney and CR were given almost-automatic starting berths once they showed that they could handle the pressure and the weight of expectations.

The big question is: can one of KikoTheKid, Danny Welbeck, Mame Biram Diouf, or Josh King be the next star turn ? Opportunity is knocking, will any one of them answer the door ?

  58. aig alex is god says:

Admit That Berbatov has not done as well as he was expected to do at United but to keep on having a go at him is pathetic. There are other players who arent doing well, why cant we say that they arent doing well to. Why single out just one playerevery single time? is it just because he cost 30 million?. Even a half witted person will know that he wasnt worth 30 million and it was entirely the clubs fault that we had to pay that much for him.Why blame him for that?. Why isnt anyone blaming SAF that he was so desperate to bring Berbatov and did everything the wrong way?, because none of us dare to do that.

I dont want to slag players here but i am forced to do that now. valencia has been poor in the last 6-8 games,Carrick has been inconsistent in midfield all season, anderson has been inconsistent, isnt 1 goal in 90 games pathetic?. wasnt this guy the next ronaldinho. Why isnt anyone pulling them up?. Just because Berbatov cost that much money he is made scapegoat but the truth is apart from Rooney,Fletcher and probably GIggs none of our players have been above average this season in terms of consistency and level of performances. So the whole team has to improve, its not just Berba.

Also as fans we have 2 options, either keep making stupid comments and slag him or back him. I prefer backing him as he is still at the club.he has shown flashes of brilliance without being consistent. The problem for me is not Berbatov but his partnership with Wazza that hasnt quite clicked.I am still puzzled as to why it cant be sorted despite him being for at the club for 15 months now. Hope it is sorted out soon.I believe that if they work together in training they can still click together.

  59. King Eric says:

denton – Josh King is way off the first team mate. I know he got a run a few months back but will be a while yet.

  60. denton davey says:

aig alex: “Admit That Berbatov has not done as well as he was expected to do at United but to keep on having a go at him is pathetic.”

I can only assume that you are aiming this comment at me. I will admit that it’s “pathetic” to keep going on about this topic but most of my comments have been made in response to the statements made by others. I think it’s what we call “a debate” – and that’s what I value about blogging on this site.

But, let me clarify why I am “having a go at him”. I wrote in my pre-season comments that the key to this season was going to be the ability of the Rooney/Berbatov axis to function smoothly. That just hasn’t happened, has it ? One could be even-handed and blame Wayne Rooney for having no positional discipline but Don Fabio seems to have been able to get him to stay focussed even while playing behind a carthorse like EmileIvanhoeHeskey so I don’t think that that argument works unless, of course, you want to believe that ignoring Don Fabio is more frightening than ignoring SAF. So, by a fairly simple process of elimination – and as a result of watching almost every match (admittedly on the telly on my couch in Toronto) – I’ve reluctantly come to the conclusion that the “blame” lies with Berbatov and his refusal to play the game like a #9. It doesn’t look like he’s going to change his modus operandi so I’m just trying to tell it like it is (to these eyes). I should also add another sub-point – I wasn’t one of those who slated Berbatov’s acquisition (or the price that SAF paid) but I’ve come to the realization that the leopard can’t change his spots. Nineteen goals in seventeen months is hardly what one would expect from UTD’s #9.

King Eric – I’ve never seen Josh King on telly, let alone in the flesh. So, I’ll take your word about him BUT at this time last year KikoTheKid was just about as far away from the finished article and I seem to remember that SAF had confidence in him and that Macheda repaid that confidence with what was perhaps the most important goal of the season. So, with regards to King, if’s he good enough then he’s old enough. Time will tell. I do think, however, that it’s a pity KikoTheKid seems to be crocked because I figure that his coming-out party has been derailed by his wonky hamstrings.

Fred – I’m not saying Berbatov is better than Cantona. I’m saying Berbatov scored more goals than Cantona, but after year one fans slag him off constantly and want rid. Thank fuck our fans had more sense after Cantona’s first season. If 14 goals isn’t enough from a first season, then Cantona must have been shit in his first year, right?
The good ol’ days… when supporters used to actually support the players in their team.

that comment wasnt aimed at you mate.just got sick of the constant slagging of berba by everyone.i always enjoy reading your comments and your reasoning is always spot on.i saw your comments and it is clear you are responding to others comments.what angers me is even on non berbatov related articles fans are having a go at him which is really sad.19 goals in 17 months isnt good but he still has 30 months in hand.there is always hope he will do well consistently.
