After Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t even give a spot on the bench in the Champions League final to the Premier League top scorer, Dimitar Berbatov, it was hard to imagine that the Bulgarian had a future at the club. With just one year remaining on his current deal, it looked as though the striker who scored more winning goals than any player in the league (according to Opta) would be off.

Two days after the final, United were set to show the Premier League trophy to the fans in Manchester. After failing to travel back to Manchester with the team, it was assumed that Berba would be absent. However, he spent a large chunk of the parade at the front of the bus, grinning and filming the occasion.

Exhibiting his excellent attitude once again, Berba has confirmed that despite being shunned for this final, he will stay and fight for his place in the next one.

“I will stay,” Berbatov told Bulgarian TV. “I will fight for the twentieth title. There will be new finals and we will be fighting for new titles. I am moving ahead. When you go through difficult times, you should not quit. Everything at Manchester United starts from scratch for me on July 4th.”

Berba wasn’t seen in the stands and some reports suggested he had left the ground, which was quickly denied by the manager and his agent.

“The truth is that I stayed at the dressing room and watched the Champions League final there, on a TV screen,” he said. “I was really disappointed. I was ashamed that I was not part of the team and did not want people to see how sad I feel.”
