Berba: I Reached The Top At Manchester United

Dimitar Berbatov has today spoken about his time at Manchester United coming to an end. After being the league’s top scorer last season, the Bulgarian striker has hardly had a look in. The 31-year-old will leave United this summer but insists he’s achieved his goal by playing for us.

“I rejected City’s offer to play in the best club in the world,” Berbatov told BG TV. “My time in United is over and I should find another place. Right now I don’t feel complete. I’m not a bench player, so obviously my time at United ended. My goal in my life was to reach the top and Manchester United was exactly this.”

  1. Fred says:

Well done Bero. You lived the dream. :)

  2. Kings says:

    Berba is class

  3. Fred the RED says:

John Terry leading the singing on the Chelsea open bus sounds just like Pete Boyle when he sings.

  4. Albert Ross says:

Stay at the top Dimitar Berbatov!

Right here at United. Force your way into the team.

  5. Fred says:

I don’t think there’s any doubt about his greatest moment for us

  6. jeet says:

Doesn’t sit well with me, TBH. Will miss him

  7. parryheid says:

Classy player who despite his mismanagement this season isn’t prepared to complain.about it.

  8. says:

Ha Ha Berba, taking a parting shot at City….Goodbye Dimitar. Good luck in the future!

‘City are the champions, but to me they bought the title,as they bought so many players. Im sure next year,MUFC will be on top again’- Berba

  9. medumtum says:

What an outstanding servant he has been to the club. I think comparisons with Cantona, when talk of his arrival first spread, were clearly unmerited and unjustified. He is a different type of player as compared to the King. An outstanding silky second striker. And class all round. Particularly when one thinks of the likes of Tevez. Fergie commands, and deserves to command, absolute loyalty from fans, but really his treatment of berba has been difficult to watch. Berba deserved better, particularly when rooney was going through his rough patch and there was an absent link between midfield and the strike force. He should have played more, but it is as it i. Thank you Berba, for your outstanding service. You will be remembered.

  10. Fred says: – love the quote!

Only Fergie knows why he decided to hold onto Berbatov for one more year and proceed to never play him. Maybe one day he’ll explain it to us.

  11. Albert Ross says:

parryheid – good evening sir. Your general absence is noted with regret.

Attend RoM regularly and visibly please.

  12. kungfoocantona says:

ur class was never in question, it was there for all to see… it was more that u didnt suit uniteds style of fast counter attacking football….good luck with the future, just hope it aint in england as i wouldnt want him to come back and haunt us

  13. says:

Fred – I think that Berb was running the merchandising department for Man Utd during this season. I am almost positive he had a hand in the Man Utd cologne that you can purchase online or at the megastore.

What a contrast between him and torres who one day after winning the CL is complaining about how disappointed he is for not starting….

  14. WeAreUnited says:

I don’t understand two things in this forum. not that related in the news.

    1. why people say Nani and Hazard couldn’t work??? when for example Ribery and Robben works, well until yesterday :P or Ronaldo and Di Maria, an example. Ronaldo and Nani in Portugal and here at ManUtd used to work. For me Nani is our best wideplayer! definitely without the question!

2.Why some members here always makes fun when someone says something about a tansfer??? okey it’s stupid talking all over and over again, best thing to do is wait and see what happens. BUT people have opinions, some have bad and stupid some have a bit better and composed opinions. Let them speculate and learn Uniteds way dealing the tranfers, I have learned the hard way, but never have regret it :)

and for Berba, thank you for all your efforts and goals, people will remember you as a magician who never was appreciated. When you play for United you have to be 29/7, so more than 24/7 and ready to play everyday great football.

thank you for the winning year, you were an architect in that year.

  15. GerryDaly4 says:

Berbatov, class act and a gentleman. The very model of a professional – no moaning, just ket his dignity when he didn’t play. Got lots of quality memories of him. Just a shame his style didn’t always suit what United needed. Deserves our best wishes.

  16. Mikekelly12 says:

Classy footballer, classy bloke. Berbatov shows the character you expect from a Manchester United player. Take note Mr Rooney.

  17. Albert Ross says:

Roy Keane wonders if senior players have done enough for LFC and for Kenny Dalglish.

“A captain doesn’t just play well himself, he gets the others to play well. Does Gerrard do that? I’m not so sure. Carragher and Reina have been around long enough to know what’s required and Johnson is the England right-back. What have they done to help?”

“Have they invited new arrivals over for a meal or gone for a game of snooker with them to make sure they’re all right?”

  18. MG says:

    Outstanding person and footballer

I wish we had found out a way to really unlock his full potential

I’ll miss him – I think if he had played more one thing is for sure we would have done better.

You can’t deny that our strikers found it hard at times this year.

it’s hard to bite the bullet knowing Berba could have easily got 15 goals or more and…

Well I thank him for wearing the shirt – in an age when it’s just about the money and the ego, Berba was pretty unique

  19. WillieRedNut says:

    Lazy Bastard.

  20. MG says:

    I have a transfer opinion

We are going to sign a Lebanese, a Greek and an American

    Food food glorious food

  21. kungfoocantona says:

    well said MG well said

  22. Fred says:

Berba’s reached the top and had to stop and that’s what’s botherin’ him.

  23. Mikekelly12 says:

All rolled into one.. A Legrecan.

  24. MG says:

Sounds good that does Mike :D

  25. Marq says:

So much for wanting to play a fast attcking game. We only had 2 counterattack goals all season. Berbatov might well have got us our 20th if he had some game time. They say he only scores against smaller teams, well, we lost our title because of results against smaller teams! So if anyone else still dare use this reason to diss off Berbatov, you deserve a slap

  26. WillieRedNut says:

Berba reached the top, and then decided he couldn’t go any further, because he’s a lazy bastard.

  27. Costas says:

Shame his United career is ending in a whimper. Should have sold him last summer.

  28. Voice of reason says:

    More wise words from keano

  29. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Class act. I’m glad I got to see his final appearance. All the best Berba.

  30. nayf says:

That is a real man! He can leave with his head held high. I he goes to the club he wants and starts enjoying his football again!

  31. Ellinor says:

    Berbatov <3

  32. Robert S says:

Top lad, great player! should have played more often! Even more so as Welbeck and Hernandez were struggling to find their form! I really wish him well for the future!

  33. oneloveoneunited says:

Just a wonderful footballer to watch

Never will forget his hat-trick against the vermin

Kept his dignity throughout his United career and just exudes class off the pitch

    You will be missed

  34. Xyth says:

Berba should have been used much more this season. It is sad to see him go.

  35. prasan_UTDfan4life says:

Top top player, top top professional, a perfect example of how a Manchester United player should be! Berbatov is just so refreshing as a person and as a professional in a day and age where we have mercenaries trolling about everywhere! I for one am absolutely gutted at his exit, but I would wish him the very best from the bottom of my heart!

Players like Berba are a rare breed and he deserves every bit of our love and adulation! To think of the time when some fans wanted that Argie prick ahead of him in the United set up just gets my blood boiling! He is a player who has been treated quite unfairly by some section of fans and never understood why would you not want a player like him in United who loves the club so much, has fantastic ability with the ball and is humble & grounded as an individual! The 19th title would’ve not been possible without him so lets hope we give the guy some fucking credit for that at least!

It’s moments like this that we are going to miss:

    All the best Berba! :)

  36. xol says:

    Time for him to move.
    To our midfield.

  37. mara says:

I never liked Berba…but i think that Saf didn t correct with him. He should give him more games.
someone once said that he needs to play regulary to get goals and selfconfidence. and i think that is true. He is Bulgarian and they are like that…that mentality is like Croatians…

  38. Idrathershagabucket says:

Classy bloke I have to say. Did do my tits in at times on the pitch but performed well in general. Could’ve thrown a strop when not playing but got on with it instead. Was a joy to watch u play at OT mate. Best of luck.

  39. akanemo says:

    All the best Berba!

  40. LoneStarRed says:

Berba: Pure Class. Silky skills . Best wishes to you.

  41. Daniel says:

Berba hasn’t reached the top with United in my view.
Sure he has the medals but he didn’t win the CL, didn’t play in the losing finals and generally wasn’t trusted in big games.
I dont rate Berba personally although he is supremely talented he just plays too slow for United he slows us down terribly but those games against Barca he would of been a smart selection.
I hope we get 10m for him and he goes to a good club and wins stuff.
Quality professional never complained when he was left out.

  42. Fred says:

He meant that playing for United IS reaching the top.

  43. moss says:

wish all the best berba nd thx again to play for the great team and wish to hv good coming few years with ur new team we proud u to play for us

  44. Nawaaz Casoojee says:

Great player who has performed well at Old Trafford over the years. Many say that he has not made the cut at Old Trafford, but I disagree.
He finished top scorer last season and has pulled out some sensational moments in a United shirt. Sad to see him leaving, but that said,he deserves to be playing week in week out and he is most definately not a bench player.
