Berbatov: Long Way To Go Before Cantona Comparisons

“It’s not good to be compared to a legend, as it brings more pressure,” said Berbatov. “I have my own style, I play my own way. I want to be known for that, rather than the comparison to be made. And there is no comparison. I have a long way to go.”

It’s never too late, Dimi. You can start today, with a hat-trick against Bolton :-)

  2. spacemanspiff says:

Off-topic: Scott, aren’t you going to do the live blogging thing today considering that this is an away game? Or since the Reebok is close by, are you actually at the game?

  3. keanesmagichat says:

just watched the first half of the game… berba fucked up a real goal scoring chance as he was clearly afraid of jussi taking man and ball… cantona would have taken the slap and the goal

  4. Kross, from Kriss Kross says:

o’shea has been absolutely beyond terrible. i can’t describe my loathing for this useless cunt. everything he does turns to shit. jordi cryuff was a better player for us than this twat.

  5. keanesmagichat says:

well kris you obviously know very little. All good teams need a player who will play anywhere and are happy to play the odd game, they are called squad players and are invaluable to a team…. you talk a lot of shit

  6. Costas says:

Fucking beauty Dimitar!Top of the league and we are playing shit!Away fro home at least!

  7. macha says:

BACK WHERE WE BELONG!! And Berbatov is starting to knock a couple in. Things are looking up!!

    Rooney for PM.

  9. Tom F says:

Berbatov doesn’t really have a chant does he?

What do you think of this, in the same style as Anderson’s & with the first three lines first heard on here in September:

    Berba-tov tov tov
He Told City to Fuck Off
    Berba-tov tov tov
    He’ll beat any centre half

    He don’t laugh
    He don’t smile
But he sure has lots of style

    Goals he’ll bring
    Like the King
    So it’s BERBATOV we sing….

not bad at all tom son…

  11. Anon says:

OH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PUT UP THE GOAL VID!
shit, thats three games in a row now that he’s scored!!!! dont wanna put the jinx on the lad, but gad, aint he good?!
two of these games have been one-nil wins, so ya, thats what you pay 30 mil for i guess

Three points and top of the table despite an appalling display of midfield > forward play. How in the world did Bolton lose their concentration right at the end ? Tevez made a determined run down the inside-ride channel and, for a change, the center forward was both central and forward. Before that, Bolton had kept it tight and tidy, limiting UTD to scraps as TheChampions looked very, very unimaginative.

What is even more surprising is that UTD kept yet-another clean sheet with three of the four first-choice back-line out of the match. Contrary to Kris, it is an indication that squad depth is clearly a tremendous advantage since bringing in O’Shea, Evans and Neville (in place of Evra, Rio, and Wesley) was damned-near seamless.

My big question has not yet been answered – why didn’t Moyes take of Fellaini when they went up 2-nil last weekend ? Leaving him on was a stupid risk – he got a fairly trivial yellow card (his tenth) and now he misses both of the L’poo derby matches. Really, really dumb management.

Oh ah, Oh ah DIMITARR Oh ah oh ah DIMITARR.. Ooo Ah Ooo Ah Oooh Ah DIMITAR

  14. Anto Griffin says:

I still think the ‘Dim, Dim, Dim, Dimitar Berbatov’ chant is the best for him yet. The one to the tune of Another One Bites The Dust by Queen…

  15. King Eric says:

Get in Berba my son! Where are all you Berba haters now?

  16. EastStandManc says:

I too am certainly ‘learning to appreciate’ Dimi, as Sir Bobby put it. Not an excellent performance by any stretch of the imagination, but he was where he needed to be when it counted!

As for that Agadoo chant Tom, I think the last line of the first para needs changing, it doesn’t quite fit in. Think we need to find another way to get the last word of it to rhyme with ‘-ov’, IMVHO.

  17. Jake says:

definitely another one bites the dust

  18. Kings says:

There is only one Cantona. We will be saying the same about Berbatov. This guy’s a fanatastic footballer, with a superb touch. Previous seasons he has been banging them in at the turn of the year, and 2 goals in his last 3 games is proving that this trend could continue this season too.

  19. Red-Manc says:

Cantona is my favourite United player of all time he is The King of Old Trafford and always will be, nobody will ever have the same status he has at the club because nobody will ever be the same as him.

Im a big supporter of Berbatov though, his style of play is similar to Eric’s but he doesn’t have the personality of Cantona and he’s is own player so theres no point in comparing them.

if anyone is still has doubts over him and his attitude just watch that interview ;)

DIMITAR BERBATOV ONE LOOK AT CITY AND HE SAID FUCK OFF!

  20. AndrewRed says:

There is and will only ever be one King Eric. He was one of the last non-bitch players in the game. He was a spark plug to light the fire in United into becoming a home grown premier league power. One of the last great Centre Half players

  21. King Eric says:

    AndrewRed: Centre Half?

  22. klauq says:

erm i’m quite disgusted with Kriss’ comment.. And i dont think the space will be enuff here to counter that.. and i’m not gonna let that ruin the good mood here.. enuff with that.

Berbatov is really great. His touches is captivating.. And his timing is pure genius.

“And there is no comparison. I have a long way to go.” A down-to-earth, very simple man. He really is one of a kind.

He also knows his place. Not getting carried away with the comparison, instead, showing self-confidence by dismissing the need to imitate Cantona’s style.

Seriously, this answer alone brings back a little bit of kingly aura that Cantona brought once.
