With the Last 16 knockout games drawing to a close, the group winners have advanced in every match so far. Some have been more fortunate than others as Brazil and Costa Rica needed penalties to help them, whilst Germany only managed to open up the Algerian defences in Extra Time.

Today sees one of the pre tournament favourites Argentina, take on Switzerland. Argentina were only one of four teams to win all their group games, none of which were overly convincing but Lionel Messi, long criticised for his performances at international level came to the party and carried them through with a host of amazing goals. Switzerland finished second behind France, but were exposed by the group winners in that game, when your centre backs include Senderos and Djourou trouble is always around the corner but going forward, they have been led by Xherdan Shaqiri who has been in great form so far this tournament. Back both teams to score but with Messi in his current form, side with Argentina for the win @ 3.80

In this evening’s game, Belgium take on the USA. Like Argentina, Belgium finished their group with three wins out of three but looked far from the potential winners many touted them to be as they edged past Algeria, South Korea and Russia by one goal. Their defence has stood firm with Courtois an imposing figure in between the posts. USA’s results have perhaps not quite reflected the quality of their performances so far, dogged and robust they’ve troubled teams with their ability on the ball and their tenacity off it. This has the makings of a low scoring game so back under 1.5 goals @ 2.75
