Campbell: I Joined Sunderland Because They’re Massive

Frazier Campbell has claimed his reason for joining Sunderland over Hull is because the North-East outfit are a bigger club, massive in fact!

Good luck to him.

“Sunderland are a massive club,” said Campbell. “All you have to do is look around the facilities here. I spoke to the people behind the scenes and everything here is impressive. There’s lots of ambition and the club are moving forward with the new backing they have in place. They are looking to bring good players in to add to the quality already here. It was an easy decision to make in the end and I’m eager to get started.”

all the best lad.althouh the 3.5 million fee is way too less.we should have held for 6-7mn atleast.

  2. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

if thats the reason then you should of signed for city

  3. eric belfast says:

    lol good luck

  4. Dazjoe says:

Sunderland ain’t massive but they’re a damn sight bigger than Hull, they’ve won 6 league titles and have a record attendance of 75000, good luck for the future Frazier.

  5. Oooodz says:

He’ll do well there, I don’t think Tottenham used him correctly at all, one of the latter games I saw him play for them he was used up front in Europe alone in a 4-5-1!!

Just out of interest Scott, is there any reason why the quotes you put up on the site are without capital letters etc?

  6. Tom F says:

    MASSIVE! :)

  7. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

they’ve got an ex red devil playing up front
they’ve got an ex red devil playing up front
they’ve got an ex red devil playing up front
cause Sunderland are a massive club

  8. willierednut says:

    Gud luck frazier.

  9. cc says:

Sunderland is a town (pop. 180,000) with no facilities. No train station, no shops – just a massive stadium in direct proportion to their inferiority complex to Newcastle. Hull City has genuinely massive potential. It’s the 10th largest city in England (pop 350,000 and a single city club in a 800,000 region = 40-50,000 club. (Record attendance 56,000 in the old 2nd divion) No Leeds or Sheffield competition. With Fraizer’s goals, Hull would have finished mid table and Sunderland might even have been relegated.

Sky Sports: Manchester United will present their 3 new signings later this afternoon.

Antonio Valencia, Michael Owen and ?

  11. MUFC the Religion says:

Sorry I couldn’t think then. The ? Is Obertan. I’d rather it be Douglas Costa or Alexis Sanchez but they will happen in time.

  12. AIG Alex is GOD says:

@ MUFC the religion gabriel obertan

  13. AIG Alex is GOD says:

i m not too sure on costa.the asking price is just too much.

as for sanchez, there are too many wingers at the moment.we dont need another one .

    rather buy a CDM.dats it.summer deals done

  14. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    AIG Alex is GOD
the asking price is 7 million pound up front whats wrong with that

  15. AIG Alex is GOD says:

    @ghtt.

no mate.gremio want all the cash to be paid at the same time i.e the whole amount of the buyout clause.they are just playing hardball

  16. porter says:

too many wingers? left wing? nani?

  17. AIG Alex is GOD says:

nani can play on either wing.we have tosic on left.plus giggs too can play once in a while

    right wing park,obertan,valencia

  18. joero says:

    Missing:

    £80 Million recieved from Ronaldo.

    Has anyone seen it?

  19. AIG Alex is GOD says:

    @joero

check the bank account of the glazers,u will get it

  20. porter says:

obertan, tosic, they wont be starting that much, left nani/giggs, right valencia/park, left still need stregthening so we dont play rooney on the wing.

  21. joero says:

    @AIG

No kidding. I’m sure if a sizable chunk of it isn’t spent this summer it will mysteriously disappear.

To my calculations we should have between 94-103 Million knocking around…

    Hmmm…

  22. AIG Alex is GOD says:

yes but than what will u tell obertan and tosic.will u tell them to warm the bench.they are aldready 21yrs and dis is their time to shine.plus tosic is a dead ball expert.u have to give them a chance .cnt keep on buying players and wait for years so that they will come good.as for rooney,he wont start on the wing.also bcoz of o’shea and fabio,Evra can play on left flank as he did in few games in the 2007-08 season.

  23. UTD7 says:

I will be interested to see if SAF claims thats our transfer spending over with. I really hope not.

I really hope there is some truth in the Aguero stories. If we could get someone like him, Shneider and Noble or Veloso (one of the latter two to cover hargo) we can go into the season confident.

Not sure about Douglas. Ronny was in Europe and regularly watched at 18. Some Brazilians seem Douglas in the same bracket as that player that was bought by Betis all those years ago.

I agree with those who think the 80 mil has gone into the the Glazers pocket.

  24. AIG Alex is GOD says:

    @joero

there is no point spending, just bcoz u have money.we all knw manchester united are not real madrid.we dont pay exhorbitant amounts for overpriced players,we make great players.

tell me one player on whom we shud spend.there is no good player in the market.

aguero is good bt not worth 55million pounds.

  25. ae80 says:

all the best campbell!! under bruce he will be massive, i reckon..

  26. Stephen says:

Noble is not even close to United quality and Veloso is average at best.

  27. bigcjl says:

In repsonse tocomment from the uninformed CC (obviously a bitter Hull supporter) here’s a couple of facts for you.

    1. Sunderland IS A CITY. As appointed by the Queen.
    2. Sunderland has a population of approx 300,000.
    3. Sunderland are a club with History, leagues titles, Fa Cups etc, and record attendance of over 75,000 (also hold record of highet attendance for a reserve match 48,000 in Stadium of light!!)
    4. Sunderland have owers ready to invest, and better base squad than Hull.

Like Frazier Campbell said himself, its was an easy choice.

He spent time with Hull, and knew the score, Hull will suffer this year from Second year Syndrome, and continue with the form where they left off last year.

Sunderland will attract better players this summer, have more resilience about them thanks to Steve Bruce, and are on the up.

Hull on the other hand, have 3 more seasons in the prem. Autumn, Winter and Spring………………..

  28. joero says:

    @ AIG

I agree to an extent, personally I would prefer if the money was invested in bringing Old Traffords capacity up to rebuld the south stand. Will it happen? I very much doubt it.

In regards to spending it on players, I would have spent the money on Benzema and according to reports, we tried but he chose Real. Aguero is exceptionally talented but yeah he’s not worth 55million, noone is.

But I think a lot of fans would be happy (me included) if 30million + was spent on one player as it shows the Glaziers are sticking to their word, even if it still is less than half of the full 80million. Otherwise as it stands, we have only spent our 30 million transfer budget we recieve each season. In fact we still have 14 million left of that!

  29. AIG Alex is GOD says:

    @joero

even i want on e big signing, but u see the problem is there is no such player available.and the ones who are(except aguero0are not even close to 30 million.Anyname u can think of?

  30. UTD7 says:

Veloso and Noble in terms of cover for HArgo are good enough. No point buying an amazing replacement for Hargo unless SAF believes he is not coming back.

Also I agree with AIG, not much choice out there but i think differently with reagrds to Aguero, he is outstanding. Otherwise most of the other star players are not available but then again neither was Ronni officially.

  31. joero says:

    @ AIG

Benzema would have been mine, but thats not a possibility. I think we will get Douglas Costa, somewhere inbetween 7m-20m. I also have a feeling we may get Eto’o, although personally I think he is too old and not worth anything over 20M.

I would be happy with Aguero but only for around 40 million. We should also look at Yaya Toure or Camacho at At Madrid to bolster the central midfield.

  32. willierednut says:

Veloso is way overated, noble in the mould of carrick wud be the better option.

  33. AIG Alex is GOD says:

    @joero

20million pounds for douglas costa is too much.

etoo demands close to 1,50,000pounds a week which is more than what rio and wazza earn and as u said he is 28 .

Yaya Toure has signed one year contract extension wid Barca.camacho I have seen him play but he is not their first choice. rAthletico prefer asscunsao who they brought from Porto in 2008 june.

one player i like is Gojko kacar who plays for hertha berlin in germany and is 21 years age.he is available for 6-8 million.

  34. King Eric says:

Noble? Mark Noble? That cockney cunt is no where near United quailty mate. Have faith in Fletch for the coming season. He will be even better than last season.

  35. UTD7 says:

King Eric, you are right Fletches is better? Saying that I don’t think Owen is Utd quality either whatever anyones say. HE is a has been. Who cares if it is low risk. At the end of the day he is no good.

  36. bh4vn35h says:

Were the one’s that made you = Hull City

I say you should of went back to them, he could of partnered up with Manucho again. Sad that the only purpose he served was to get Berbatov to us.

Hopefully he does not go onto greater things so we don’t kick ourselves later

PLZ Fergie don’t sell Danny Simpson but then what do we do with Rafael?

Y do we waste time signing future stars? we go onto release all of them just sign stars once.

I really love the youth policy but the way its working out nowdays just doesnt make sense really. Look at nani he is better then Ronaldo. Ronaldo spent 6 years at O.T. the first 4 years he was there he did nothing Nani kicked of from his first game now they want to sell him. he doesn’t get games let the boy settle in :) only good things will come. Who remember what he did against Arsenal?

  37. Stephen says:

If fit Owen is top draw, if he isn’t then it is an issue but the medical seemed to go on for 2 days so I assume he is fully fit.
To say he is “no good” is not factually correct as his goal scoring record begs to differ.

  38. cc says:

bigcjl – Sunderland are a great club – but massive clubs spend more than £6m on strikers. Fraizer was great for Hull where he’s a hero and he was guaranteed games – but his potential will be wasted at Sunderand where he’ll spend another year on the bench. If a experienced Premier League strikers like Jones and Cisse can’t do it for you – why will Fraizer Cambell?

  39. KVN says:

All the best Frazier. Let’s hope SAF put a buy-back clause and when he
finishes top scorer in the Prem we’ll get him back for £12m.

as far as Douglas Costa goes, i think Man U should be careful, as having read this article
    http://pitacodogringo.wordpress.com/2009/07/13/are-manchester-united-being-conned-over-douglas-costa/

    i really think that
    1 – £20m is overpriced
2 – £5m is more accurate with incentives
3 – how reliable are the scouts we have out in Brazil
4 – we should go for Ashley Young or a DM player

    off topic

was think that our midfield of Anderson, Fletcher and Carrick playing together would be the perfect midfield. it has the combination of power, energy, intelligent passing, and defensive know-how.

that would mean a formation of 4 – 3 (with Carrick in the middle, Anderson on the left, and Fletch on the right) 2 – 1 (or it can be switched to 1 -2)

  40. KVN says:

    http://pitacodogringo.wordpress.com/2009/07/13/are-manchester-united-being-conned-over-douglas-costa/

i think we need to be careful of signing Costa as this guy knows what he’s writing about and seeing.

  41. joero says:

Well, no more signings. Thats official.

    What was I saying?!

  42. Alf mufc fan says:

Sunderland are a massive club historically and potencially and are the last of the sleeping giants.i remember a game i went 2 in 1964 at roker park, sunderland v united, the attendance that day was over a hundred thousand mackems but the attendance was given as 65 thousand because it goes on ticket sales and was sold out at 65k but mackems broke entrance gate down and more flooded in easy 120 thousand there it was awesome big panic tho similar to hilsborough we were lucky lookin back.best charlton law played and the roker roar was deffening.

  43. KVN says:

and why give Owen the Number 7 shirt????

    what’s that about?

  44. UTD7 says:

Owen WAS good but is no longer any good. That is factual hence he could not get into the Newcastle team near the end and was dropped by Mr Capello, but I suppose who cares about his opinion.

  45. davrosFTM says:

cc….you are an utter tool. Sunderland is not only a city….it’s the BIGGEST city between Leeds and Edinburgh, and before you say it, yes it IS bigger than Newcastle upon Tyne….Check yer facts man!….and yes…we do have more than enough shops…..and yes…….of course we have a railway station, (and the 2nd biggest bus station in the country after London Victoria!)….and the metro system….and a HUGE ammount of pubs and clubs…..and a beautiful coastline…..and beautiful countryside in the Wear Valley…..AND Durham Cathedral only 15 minutes away…..AND!!!….I’ll tell you what,…why don’t you come and check it out for yourself, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised!!!

  46. Rich, Newcastle says:

Davros – we really are a big club, we really really are!

But a smaller city and catchment than Hull, who are an unknown quantity due to not ever having the backing to establish themselves in the top-flight.

They’ve done what yourselves and many other clubs have failed to do with limited resources. I guess it must make you proud that 50m investment last year rendered 1 more point than they got last year – but why worry about that when you’re such a massive footballing entity. You’re 1 year ahead of them and have wasted more than they have spent. But for a dodgy goal at the SOL and a lucky deflection at their place, you’d have been down – again instead of the cartoon army.

Saying you have more potential than a club who hasn’t ever been in a position to test their potential is a bit daft. I’d say that if Hull or Cardiff had spent the cash you have then they’d be beating your attendances, due to being bigger cities with no close rival. Oh, and BTW – Sunderland and Hull are about as unattractive as eachother. Both out on a limb, both with their fair share of deprivation – I wouldn’t choose to live in either of them, though I’ve worked in both and know them well.

You just sound like every other north-east fan. What you spend seems more important than where you finish, and you think the football world revolves around 2 underachieving NE clubs, who have to pay over the odds to attract any player worth his salt. But keep telling yourself you are a massive club if it keeps you happy, but the rest of the world see you as a yo-yo side with chronic mismanagement issues and deluded fans.

    Enjoy europe next season! (lol).

  47. sunforever says:

you need to read the comments of Alf Mufc mate i guess you are one of those ‘new’ newcastle ‘fans’ who has no idea about history of clubs. Well i do and believe me a few seasons in the lower leagues will take you back to pre 1992 when you were pulling 10 to 13000. Smell the roses….
