Campbell To Return… But Do We Want Him?

Reports this morning suggest that Frazier Campbell is ready to return to Manchester United in the summer where he will be offered a long-term deal.

Campbell’s last goal for us came in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s testimonial, scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Espanyol. He then got ten minutes in the Community Shield against Portsmouth, before starting our first league game of the season against Newcastle alongside Rooney. It was only through the excellent goalkeeping from Shay Given that Campbell didn’t get his name on the scoresheet.

A month later, Campbell made his début for Spurs and played a crucial role in the Londoners’ 2-1 win over Wisla Krakow. Within ten minutes of being subbed on, Campbell delivered a great ball for Darren Bent to head past the keeper, the winning goal.

His highlight in the capital obviously came in Tottenham’s 4-2 win over Liverpool in the League Cup. With both teams putting out understrength line-ups, Spurs were 3-0 up at half with, with Campbell scoring his first on 42 minutes and his second on 45.

The following weekend, Spurs were 2-0 in the league at Fulham when Campbell came on. With ten minutes to go he scored a consolation goal. That was back in November and he hasn’t scored in his thirteen appearances since.

Harry Hotspur has given me his opinion on Frazier.

The deal was he came as ‘beads & mirrors’ along with the carrier bag of used notes we got in exchange for the rat faced Bulgarian nonce.

The vast majority of Spurs fans cheered when his name was announced and roared him on in those first few games when he came on, hungry and willing. ‘He may well be mustard’ was the general consensus.

He was mustard. The stuff you get on burger vans. Mild and mustard like, but not quite the real deal. He looked good at Hull and for a reason. He’s a gifted Championship player. No more.

He’s as fit as the butcher’s canine companion, but technically he just doesn’t have it. Will he improve? I honestly don’t know and unapologetically say I do not care. Sir Alex loaned him to us full in the knowledge it was inconceivable that he would benefit us drastically.

Mission accomplished.

    do i want him- yes

do i think we need him- no

  2. corea says:

    definetly!!!
i love him! he has guts and desire. and he is possitive!
but we just can not argue if he is good enough or not because we just don’t have enough cards.
    But i like him.
    Bring it on Freizer!!!!!! f

  3. cdonyi says:

He needs to be loaned out one more year to a lower level Premiership club. He just need games and with that will come confidence…at Spurs he just didn’t get many games. You can’t teach pace and he has bags of it. He is skillfull but just doesn’t know how to best combine that skill and pace at the Premiership level. I say sign him up although he has a tough task being 5th or 6th choice! Rooney, Berba, (maybe Tevez), Macheda, Welbeck, Manucho (who I think will be sold).

  4. Devilinho says:

if we are not gonna sign Tevez (i hope we don’t sign him), and we are not.
Campbell we’ll be a very useful sub. and in the future i imagine him becoming our Eto’o .. besides he’ll save us a couple of millions which are gonna be spent on an overrated replacement for Tevez.. it seems we can’t any player at cheap, so let’s give our youngsters a chance to prove they are a man utd products.

  5. costas says:

I have a weird suspicion that next year our strike force will consist of Rooney,Berba,Welbeck,Macheda and Campbell.I will tell you this.It would make me the happiest United fan if all 3 of them breakthfourgh the first team and become great strikers. We have spent a lot for strikers in the last 15 years so it will be a pleasant surprise if we get 3 good ones for nothing. And i hope there is a clause to get Rossi back because i certainly miss him.But i have to say that at the moment Fraizer doesn’t give me much hope of making it.Like the Tottenham fan says,he does lack in the technical department. Will he prove me wrong?I really hope so.Evans certainly did.Oh and on the opening day it wasn’t a brilliant save by Given. It was a lucky one.Campbell’s powerfully headed ball hit him on the head!

  6. corea says:

you are so serious! i don’t you believe ?
fuck of all the spurs fuckers! believe!

  7. Oooodz says:

The only limited times ive seen him of late was playing up front alone in a 4-5-1. A young inexperienced player playing up front alone?! That isn’t a way you treat youth. Wankers.

  8. Bud says:

He would be okay as a backup striker for us, nothing more than that. If he accepts that he’s welcome to come back, but I doubt he’ll ever be playing a crucial role for us in the future.

His future could also be decided by the Tevez deal. If we dump Tevez and Fergie won’t get money for a new striker, then Campbell will play as backup for Rooney and Berba. But I’m 90% positive that Fergie will buy a new striker if we decide not to keep Tevez.

Let’s not forget that we also have Welbeck and Macheda, which are both very promising strikers, for backup.

  9. sir ryangiggs says:

anyone has any idea where the heck tosic disappeared to?

  10. corea says:

    guys, you are so serious!
what would of happen if he will be the only striker alone side Rooney for example.
just be serious till the end! you would of say that he will score us goal and will become our saviour!
why can’t you just beleive ?
SAF has said that doesn’t have even in his thoughts to sell Freizer because he has future at the club. Why just you don’t trust SAF.
BUY BUY BUY! Maybe it’s enough ? we have to look into our garden because we have the human beings there who can play fucking football!

  11. mo says:

what do spurs know! They thought gus poyet was a better manager than martin jol!

  12. FailsworthDevil says:

I would rather have him in the squad than Welbeck any day of the week.

But……… if there was seriously 7 or 8 mill on the table, and was sold to use the money to purchase a midfield enforcer.. then yes let him go..

If not then i would offload Welbeck with a buy back option and keep hold of Campbell…

Actually would be interesting to see Macheda and Welbeck up front in the worthless cup next season… now that could be interesting.

  13. costas says:

Corea, maybe Spurs weren’t the ideal place to farm him out to.We should have chosen a club like SUnderland or West Brom.Fraizer has to play to prove his worth.

  14. corea says:

    costas

    yeah! fuck Rednapp!
but he just didn’t want to rely on the player who will leave at the end of the season.
Hull another would have been another variant.

  15. costas says:

Now that you mention Hull. There is also Manucho. He might not be a youngster anymore but some Premiership experience might help him down the road.In the summer we will also have to make a decision on him

  16. King Eric says:

I am afraid I am with Failsworth regarding Wellbeck. I cannot see the hype. I know he got a belter against Stoke and he is still young and all that but he does not look in the same league as Macheda who is even younger. Don’t like his attitude. Seen him warming up before United games and he puts NO effort in at all. Just going through the motions. You don’t become an overnight favourite at United by scoring a couple of good goals. Put some fuckin effort in lad.

  17. NickOGS20 says:

Christ almighty. A player being criticised for how he warms up, I’ve seen it all now when it comes to sheer mongery from United fans.

Welbeck is 18 years old, already has three first-team goals. People trying to judge his personality and attitude are being absolutely ridiculous, and as for offloading him as FailsworthDevil suggested – jesus seriously wept. Bet most of the people rating Macheda ahead of Welbeck had never seen Kiko play before last weekend. And if they had, they’ll have presumably seen plenty of reserve football, where no-one can possibly say Welbeck hasn’t ‘looked in the same league’.

As for Campbell, not really arsed what Harry fucking Hotspur thinks. He’s been chronically mis-used at Spurs and quite how any of their fans think they can make a genuine assessment of him when I’m not sure he’s started two successive games at any point is beyond me. Fraizer’s probably not quite good enough for us but he’s definitely got it in him to be a Premier League striker – he’s no worse technically than any number of strikers who have done pretty well in the top flight.

  18. FailsworthDevil says:

I know Eric pal…. plus the likes of Macheda, the way he come onto the pitch… knowing the importance of the result, and the way he just fitted in really… it was as though he had been doing it for years… he looked a natural 1st teamer… where as Welbeck, as ive said before… he reminds me of bambi when it was just born… legs all over the show and startled eyes…he just doesnt look right…O’Shea is the same in my eyes… doesnt know what to do with himself when he scores… kinda weird..

Manucho is not United class… never in a month of Sundays… i remember the Stoke game when he came on and CR7 put the ball on a plate to him 3 times, and he ballooned all 3 attempts, and i mean i could have put them in the onion bag with my left bollock…

Again another play that seems startled when on the OT pitch..

Some players can handle it some cant… you can go back to the likes of Gary Birtles… and could prob name about 20 that just couldnt handle OT… it aint slagging them off, they are prob half decent players… but not United players…

Why not cash in on Welbeck…Manucho…O’Shea…Nani…Park you could prob raise in the region of £30million and that would get you a world class central midfielder… i know i have said it before..> Essien type player..

I would keep hold of Darron Gibson for another couple of years… but would also offload Lee Martin… great skill, but not a United 1st teamer.. sorry to say, coz i thought he would have made it… but you look at some of the players we got coming through the ranks under either Ole or McGuiness, and some of the 1st team squad that dont quite cut the mustard could make way for the new young lads…”If they are good enough, then they are old enough”… thats the United way..

Even if you sold them above players… You would still have 4 or 5 forwards “Wazza, Berba, Campbell, Macheda” and “Carlito” if we did buy him…

Petrucci is coming through the reserves in midfeld, Darron Gibson has played well in the games he has played… u could even… should i say this before you all jump on me…. let the ginger prince retire and that gives the opportunity for one of the youngsters to come through…

We have Adam Ljacic coming over next January… right sided player… sometimes you need a clear out to get the new stuff in…

Also think Mr Benjamin Foster deserves his chance next season… i would give him the majority of the Pre Season Tour… and let him have the PL and EC games and tell Edwin that he will get FA Cup and Tin Pot Cup… as well as being the Snr Goalkeeping Coach…

Strong rumours are that Mr Kuschack will be off in the summer… thank god… again give the chance of the reserve keeper to be more in the 1st team squad as 3rd choice between Foster, and Edwin..

What do you reckon?? Am i talkin bollox, or dya think it makes sense?

  19. FailsworthDevil says:

Nick, i do watch a lot of youth and reserve team football… i follow the club right through have done for many many years…

I just think there are certain players that have the mould to make it at the level United require… and some of the players above mentioned i dont fit into the category..

You get 1 chance to make it OT…. thats what im trying to say.

  20. King Eric says:

Nick- It may seem petty mentioning the warm up but when you see players like Giggsy and Nev in their mid thirties putting loads of effort in and then you look at Wellbeck , a young kid, who barely lifts his legs off the fuckin ground during the warm up it just grates. I watch all the reserve games and academy games by the way.

Failsworth most of it makes sense mate. Would definately like to keep Gibson a while longer as he has got “it” and would love to see Ben our number one next season, depending on VDS form. Another young un I like the look of is Oliver Norwood. He looks a great midfielder, who can pass, tackle, has a hell of a shot and can take decent free kicks (I think he got one this week). Know exactly what you are saying about unfortunately some players are “just not United players”. Its not just about how technically good you are but your whole attitude, mental strength, passion and personality. I am afraid that out of the ones you mentioned the only ones I possibly don’t agree with is Three Lung and Sheasy. But yes get rid of Manucho, Wellbeck and Nani. The only thing then wrong with buying an “Essien type” midfielder is there just aren’t many of them about in that mould. I will be more than happy once Hargo is back as we will then have him, Ando, Carrick and Fletch as well as Gibson and obviously the 2 veterans. Finally as for Kuscak I can’t say I would be sorry to see him go. He just piles pressure on the back four and at the moment that is summat we could definately do without.

  21. keanesmagichat says:

    simple welbeck and macheda yes;
    campbell and manucho no.
although id love for frazier to prove me wrong, i jus dont see it

  22. ChaosRed says:

Some united fans are so fucking ungreatful…The lad is 18 composed great shot technique and pace reminds me of henry…people have seen little of him and acting as if hes finished artical…pfft

  23. OTRed says:

Yep and already Welbeck at 18 is already almost written off…wow, just wow. Did anyone happen to watch the reserves game vs. Wigan? I think they came from 4-0 down to win 5-4. Why would we want to sell O’Shea? With all those injuries at LB when Evra was out and Fabio was injured, who’s the ideal player you’d have played there? Why sell Nani too when we can see he obviously has potential but cannot use it, he can come good. Only Manucho I agree with. We already have a midfield enforcer in HARGREAVES, remember him? He’s some no mark player who we signed for £18m and underwent an operation that was totally successful and should be back for pre- season.

Most of your post was a huge load of bollocks concerning who we should keep and who we should sell. Yeah lets sell a promising youngster, a useful squad player and a winger who has the potential to be world class, so we can buy a midfield enforcer that we already have in Hargreaves(yes his op was 100% successful). Sensible decision there, thank heavens some of you aren’t anywhere close to OT. I agree with you on Scholes, I really don’t think he has anything to offer anymore, really sad that unlike Giggs he couldn’t reinvent himself.

I can just imagine if Fergie thought like some people, afterall Giggs at 17 didn’t set the world alight either and was awful at first, we’d probably have sold too. I really don’t get what you mean by Welbeck looks like he doesn’t know what to do with himself in front of goal, are you trying to say he isn’t composed? because his goals against Stoke, Fulham and Southampton were all composed finishes for someone his age. Also I’m pretty surprised that you see something in Gibson that makes you want to keep him for sometime, but you don’t see the same in Welbeck?

Anyway I say keep them all(except maybe Manucho), it would be nice to have so many options and maybe have a Carling Cup squad, a FA Cup squad and a rotating Prem/ EPL squad for those days when we play on Sunday and Tuesday.

  24. ChaosRed says:

    couldn’t agree any more OTred

  25. King Eric says:

OTred – I mentioned Hargo in my post under Failsworth’s. Nani a United player? never has been and don’t think he ever will be . sorry.

  26. Giles Oakley says:

Hard to tell with Campbell. My brother is a Spurs fan and he’d take the same view as Harry Hotspur, but you have to factor in the huge bitterness over losing Berba. They knew Campbell was a make-weight to cover the embarrassing U-turn by Tottenham board when finally conceding to Berba’s wish to go to OT. No-one positively wanted Campbell at the Lane and why would a club with ‘top table’ aspirations nurture a rival’s kid? I feel sorry for Campbell who would have much preferred to go back to Hull or be given a chance at Old Trafford. He must look enviously at Welbeck, Gibson, Rafael, Possebon and now Macheda, thinking, that could have been me…At time Campbell shows terrific pace and movement but he does look light-weight, not tough enough at the highest level. As for Welbeck, he needs to fill out and build his upper-bdy strenth before we can really know. I thought he was poor in the Carling Cup Final, but has looked good on other occasions. Fergie keeps him on the bench pretty regularly, so he must think he’s got something. But then again he chose Macheda, not Welbeck, when the chips were down against Villa. I also miss Rossi. I would have liked him to have a decent shot at the first team at United. He ‘failed’ at Newcastle, so these loan spells don’t always tell the whole story.

  27. ChaosRed says:

Giles he chose them both, wellbeck should have scored if it wasn’t a sublime save from friedle

  28. Giles Oakley says:

You’re right ChaosRed. Wellbeck was unlucky with his shot which was well hit and on target. It could have been him getting all the headlines.

  29. AlexOfMancunia says:

Funny how as soon as the (1 year) younger Macheda is the flavour of the month, Welbeck isn’t considered good enough anymore!

The lad always looked a cut above in the reserves, and we’ve already seen glimpses of his class for the first team. His wonderstrike vs Stoke, and then his Henry-esque (not to overhype the lad, although he does seem to have Henry’s nonchalance in front of goal at times) finish vs Derby. Not to mention his numerous quality goals at lower level. Watching Macheda and Welbeck play together up front in the reserves is always a delight, and I’m hoping that we’ll see more of it for the first team.

As for your theory on what should be done in the summer Failsworth, getting rid of one of our brightest prospects in Welbeck, a very useful utility player who has been a great servant to the club in O’Shea, and our only two left wingers to add to probably the most competitive area of our squad in midfield doesn’t make much sense to me.

I can’t see Manucho becoming a United player, maybe another loan next season, and then a transfer to a Championship club is on the cards for him, but hey, it’s gotta be better than the Angolan league, so at least something good will come for him out of this.

And as for Campbell, I could see Fergie saying bye to Tevez, and using him as another backup to Rooney and Berba along with Danny and Kiko. I’m sure the recent financial figures of the club will dictate that this would be quite cost effective as it wouldn’t require a big money move for a striker. Personally I don’t think he’ll cut the mustard. He seems too small to lead the line effectively at the very top level, but he has shown in the Championship that his pace guarantees him a promising goal scoring career against lesser defences.

  30. OTRed says:

@KingEric: what still gives me hope about Nani is that we saw what he could do last season, he was the United player with one of the highest if not the highest number of assists in the league and he scored 4 goals, none of which were tap- ins, they were all class goals and screamers and he showed that against Derby this season that he can still score goals like that. I don’t think he has suddenly lost all that ability from last season to this. I’ll just assume its second season syndrome and see what happens with him next season.

  31. King Eric says:

OTred – I just hope so pal. Similar thing to Ando, the second season syndrome.

  32. costas says:

And as strange as it seems,Nani has scored more this season. It must be 6 or 7 in all competitions, most of which are screamers. As i said in the particular thread,we need to see more of him in order to see the best of him.And he does track back a lot from what i have seen. One thing though. He is not like Ronaldo and Park.He can’t change sides. He is a right winger.

  33. FailsworthDevil says:

Giles mate… and the others who are jumpin at my comments… i have never been a fan of O’Shea, and never been a fan of Welbeck… and never a fan of Nani…(even though i would like to see what Nani would be like with a decent run in the team)…but he just doesnt look “United” material..

Listen we are all entitled to our opinions…Im manc, red blood, red family, red ancestors… right through to when it was Newton Heath Loco up near Thorpe Road…

I dont doubt that Hargo is a midfield enforcer… and i know the op has been “successful”… i really hope he can get back to the player he was.. coz he is a fantastic midfielder… fantastic attitude… i really am a fan of his.. I aint writing him off…

What i am saying is that there are certain players at OT… that dont have the how can i say this… aura about them to be United players…dont see prepared to die for the cause… which is what i look for..

Yet there are certain players who will run all day for the club, but simply aint good enough or dont have the end product to product what is required..

Welbeck has always reminded me of Bambi… said that for a long time, and anyone on here who has ever read my comments will back me up…as i have never been a fan of O’Shea…

Listen we have a multitude of fantastic talent coming through the ranks.. and would rather have them blooded young… Rodrigo is suck a silky player… he has got it… as do the Da Silva twins, Macheda, Petrucci.. and yes, Norwood also looks a class act, as does Ravel Morrison..Darron Gibson… the list goes on and on… we are spoilt thankfully in the talent coming through… and i would rather SAF give these kids a go… with no fear, with the enthusiam… and clearly have the ability…

What is wrong with bringin them into the mix, for the likes of the Sunderland game??……its perfect, and gives the regs a little rest from the bench… and no i aint saying play 7 of them… play 2 or 3 of them…

Its a fantastic learning op for them… and also a fantastic development chance for them…

Look at the era of the Neville bros, Butt, Becks, Scholesy… like i say… if your good enough your old enough…

I stick by what i say… i dont rate O’Shea and i dont rate Welbeck… but that is my opinion… but that doesnt mean i hate them….. i just think we have better options…

  34. King Eric says:

Think its 6 Costas. Boro, West Brom, Blackburn, Southampton and 2 against Derby (FA and Carling Cups). So really not too bad for a player that has hardly started. Didn’t realise he had that many! My main concern is his decision making, but hopefully that may improve with age. I still stand by what I said, I really don’t think he will make it big at United. Heres hoping I am wrong.

  35. FailsworthDevil says:

With the right back situation… why didnt he call Danny Simpson back from his loan deal does anyone know??

Just glad that Rafael and Wesley Brown are gonna be back in the next week… coz that has been our really weak spot in the side recently… plus the fact we have not been scoring… but that will come im sure of it.

  36. King Eric says:

Failsworth – We have scored five in last 2 games, only problem is we conceded 4!

  37. FailsworthDevil says:

I dont know Eric mate.. one min im optimistic and up for it.. then next im worried and not to sure what results we are gonna get… im always like this at this point of the season…

I aint good when its getting close lol

  38. costas says:

FailsworthDevil you are right about the scoring throughout the season. It’s very rare for United to get to 53 games in a season and not to have scored 100 goals. In the last 2 games we have opened up our play a bit and have scored more freely. But as Eric says, that has come with a price.I think it’s important that we get the clean sheet tomorrow.Wednesday will be nervy(the first time that Rio and Vida will have played together since the Liverpool game),at least we should have that monkey of our backs.I am always pessimistic but due to some fans like KIng Eric i have started to become more positive.Usually when you go through a bad patch, you think the next game will be the one where you snap out of it.I have a good feeling about tomorrow.About Jonny making it and about the team getting back to winning ways.Especially if the dippers drop points!

  39. OTRed says:

@Failsworth: just like you don’t see anything in Welbeck, I quite happen to wonder what people see in Possebon either at least since the injury which is almost 5 months ago now. I agree with you on the youngsters though, Gibson and Macheda should play tomorrow. But you’re just getting over- excited and asking for it when you suggest the likes Morrison, Petrucci and Norwood in a game where 3pts is vital, just because they look class in the reserves(Eagles anyone?) doesn’t mean they can do that in the first team and thrusting them into such an important game especially if they go on to have a howler that could shatter their confidence is a bad idea. My point about Hargo is why do we need a midfielder enforcer especially an expensive one like you suggested when we already have one should be as good as new next season?

@Costas: Rio isn’t fit for tomorrow but might be available for Wednesday.

  40. denton davey says:

OTRed: “I agree with you on Scholes, I really don’t think he has anything to offer anymore, really sad that unlike Giggs he couldn’t reinvent himself.”

I disagree with this comment about Scholes – he doesn’t have the legs/lungs for first-choice midfield but he would be a dandy “super sub” IF he was postiioned as a support striker. HIs vision/experience and his shot/heading ability aren’t done yet.

Failsworth – where did you get the information about Wesley’s return ? He’s my #1 favourite player and the team really misses his no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners style of defending.

About Fraizer Campbell – see comments about Chris Eagles, Kieran Richardson and loads of others. Close but no cigar. He’s fast and talented but for anyone to suggest he’d compensate for the loss of a real “world class” player like Carlitos is just daft-as-a-brush.

  41. Tony Starks says:

So no one want to keep Tevez?

By the way everytime I’ve seen Lee Martin in the reserves he looks fantastic, I think he would do well playing with good players.. I’d like to see him given a chance on the left.. on loan he had to play with players on a different wavelength

  42. Giles Oakley says:

Failsworth, I always enjoy your contributions, and it would be great to hear more about your family background of supporting United through the generations. Anyone in your family ever see Billy Meredith? My grandfather (not a United fan) used to live in Newcastle and he used to go to St James’s Park before WW1.The miners used to piss up against you if you weren’t alert. He used to like Hughie Gallagher (or was it Willie?) and the amazingly fat goalkeeper Willie Foulke who played for Chelsea and Sheff Utd, I think. Sorry this is a bit off topic, but I love hearing stories of United supporters from way, way back, before the days of Glory Hunters.

  43. King Eric says:

OTred – actually agree with you regarding Possebon. Whenever I see him play for the reserves he just seems to saunter about, almost disinterested. Not been the same since Pogatetz tackle and I said as much on a previous blog.

denton – Sir Alex talked about Wes and Rafael today at his press conference. Excellent news to get Wesley back for the run in and important cup games.

  44. NickOGS20 says:

Failsworth – “You get 1 chance to make it OT…. thats what im trying to say.”

Right, so that leads you to write Welbeck off…. how? Am I missing something or did Danny Welbeck not score on his league debut at Old Trafford? Does he not have three goals in six starts? Was he not first-choice for the youth cup finalist academy side at 15 years old? Was he not Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Season last year? Is he not the youngest player in the recent England U21 squads? Those questioning his attitude – did he not respond to being dropped back down to the reserves after his goal at Derby with a match-winning display against Wigan?

How on earth has he wasted his ’1 chance’ in any way, shape or form? I would say he has absolutely grasped it with both fucking hands so far, and people writing him off after what he’s shown so far and at the age of 18 years old is everything that’s wrong with football supporters these days – no fucking patience whatsoever.

Thankfully SAF knows what he’s doing and there’s not a hope in hell he’ll be offloading Welbeck this summer, and rightly so.

I find it quite amazing you go on about Ravel Morrison so much when Welbeck had looked a lot more impressive for the academy at the same stage, and on a much more consistent basis (and believe me, if we’re talking about attitude issues then Welbeck is an absolute model pro compared to Morrison at this stage).

  45. NickOGS20 says:

And as for advocating bringing in the likes of Petrucci (injured btw), Norwood and Morrison (both away with the academy in Italy) for tomorrow’s game at Sunderland when they’ve barely even played reserve football… ridiculous. We’re in the midst of a huge title challenge, it’s a quite ridiculous suggestion to start experimenting with young players at this stage, in an away game that shouldn’t be underestimated (no game should be in our current form).

  46. five says:

I find it astonishing that Welbeck is being written off.

“One chance at OT?” mate you have to make the most if it when you’re thrown into cup ties as a youngster the likes of Eagles and Kieran Lee didnt but Welbeck looked lively against Boro, won a pen against Derby, scored against Southampton, scored against Derby(two classy classy goals which Rooney would have been proud of)and in his Premier League debut got a goal!.

Macheda scores one goal and everyones jizzing their pants over him, if Welbecks shot went in no one would bat an eyelid about Macheda going back into the reserves.

I am thrilled that we have so many promising players coming through the ranks and I think its ridicilous that you are suggesting we bomb out an 18 year old whose impressed whenever he’s played.

Oh and I hope Lee Martin never gets into the pitch ever…my girlfriend fancies him.

  47. FailsworthDevil says:

Giles, yeh defo talk about family from past from Newton Heath, Moston, Crumpsall, Collyhurst etc… we are all United… i think there is on blue nose that i can recall from the who family and that is a great uncle..

I got told that when they used to finish work and go watch the football, if it was that cold they would piss on there own feet mate to keep them warm lol..

They used to have a dog… for the Loco team, and when it was struggling for money the dog used to go round the pub with a box round its neck and all the men… working class men who didnt have halfpennys to rub together all put money in to keep the team going..

Im from failsworth which is about a mile from old loco site, so have been brought up, dragged up united… and never regretted it..

I remember at the age of 8 in the 83 cup final scriking my eyes out when we scored a goal… remember my first game my old man took me to, was Everton at home… i was about 6 i think… in the K Stand, there was everton fans in there as well…i actually dont remember much about the game… just remember some everton fan giving me toffees lol… i remember when my mam n dad first let me start going to the game with my mates at 13… was quality… into the stretty paddocks as it was cheaper… and the older lads and blokes would help us jib over into the stretty end to be in the mix of it… was quality…

Those were proper united days… not like this corporate shite you see walking round outside the stadium now… i get sick to death of being mivered for a fuckin credit card… when i actually get the chance to go… i prob only get a dozen games a season now..

For fucks sake, Nobby Stiles nephew buried my dad… at my dads funeral i did United songs in church for him…we are manic reds the whole family..

My old man was good friends, and played in the same youth team in Moston for years… and boxed with Jimmy Kidd (Brians brother)..

Received a signed Oil Painting from Paddy Crerrand on my 18th birthday..

Been for a meal with Garry Neville at the Midland when i worked in travel as Garry is the UK Ambassador for the Maltese Travel Association.. and he is a pretty sound lad..

A friend of mine used to play for us as well… Ronnie Walwork, and often catch up with him in Tesco Failsworth, as he has moved back to Woodhouses now..

Did fanzone on Sky for united v wolves in the cup and did an interview at my house on sky sports news… for which my lad was only a week old and he was on it too… so that was a good bit of memorabilia to keep on DVD..

I got done for getting into OT in the middle of the night years ago pissed up.. early 90′s maybe 94 i cant remember what year… when they were redeveloping the ground putting seats in… and i got nabbed nicking some of the bricks from the stretty end.. but i charmed me way out of it… and still got the bricks to this day in a show box.. when i met my missus 5 years ago… she thought i was a crank when she found these bricks in a box one day lol…

My son when he was born was at OT within a week of him being born… he is brainwashed as i am lol…

The only regret i have is giving my ticket up in 2001 when my job took me abroad… but mind u i couldnt afford a season ticket anymore now anyway..

Anyway… going back to the kids… i wasnt on about putting the likes of Ravel Morrison etc etc in the team today.. .

I was saying we could do with blooding them now and next season…

I know i am too harsh on Welbeck… just sommat about him that i cant relate to him making it… and i know that his references from the youth etc are exceptional and has been dubbed the most promising kid to come through the ranks for years… i dont know though… its just sommat… but thats my opinion… i just cant take to him…. but i will say that he looked better in the wide position i think against spurts… he looked more useful there..

All i am trying to say and have always said about the other kids is… “if your good enough your old enough”… thats all i mean.. and would get more pride out of these kids coming through… i just love to see them when they are pumped up… adrenalin going… no fear… thats what i like… and i just dont see that in Welbeck… but i hope im wrong… i really do… if Welbeck turns into a united legend… then i will eat my words… happily.

Failsworth, great reply, great stories, made me laugh, and brought a lump to the throat, so thanks. I love the brick story. Wish I had one….That pissing on the feet reminds me of a true story I heard as a kid. There’s a little lad with his dad at a packed out FA Cup thriller at Watford (a real shit hole in the 50s when I first went there, not much better now) and he’s absolutely busting for a piss and he keeps saying, ‘Dad, Dad, can’t you take me to the toilet?’ and the Dad keeps saying, ‘Can’t you wait for half-time? Just hold on!’ By now the kid is almost pleading when a man behind him whispers in his ear , ‘Just have your piss in the bloke in front’s pocket, he won’t notice’. The kid whispers back ‘I can’t do that , of course he’ll notice it if I piss in his pocket!’ ‘No he won’t', says the man, ‘I just pissed in your Dad’s pocket and he didn’t notice…’

Let’s hope we piss on Sunderland today!

Damn right mate… im hoping so… and that is a quality story about the lad and his dad at the match…but apparently these stories are supposed to be true mate..

  50. sky sports1 says:

He’s a top young player as shown by his goals (when played) and useful work rate at such a young age.

That’s a really silly quote from a Spurs fan who obviously couldn’t care less whether he has any sort of chance at Telford let alone United, and why should he? Campbell won’t be at Spurs much longer.

Don’t really see how his take on this helps.

We’re better off looking at his performances for the U21′s from my point of view and I’m quite sure United will be justified in keeping him after this summer in the U21 European champs

Failsworth – Great stories. Ronnie Wallwork, now thats a name I had forgotton. Also my first memory of United was the 83 cup Final against Brighton. That belter of a goal from Wilkins. 2-2 draw then hammered in the replay 4-0. Good times. Big Ron, fuckin Bailey in goal, Remi Moses and Muhren etc.

  52. the Count says:

My humble opinion: we are top heavy with strikers and way too light in midfield, Scholesy (god bless his legendary soul) hasn´t got the stamina we need anymore, Carrick is an excellent midfielder but needs an enforcer alongside so he can play his passing game. The Midfield is where SAF should be looking at to improve United.

  53. King Eric says:

theCount – We will be fine mate when Hargo back, as well as Ando retaining his fitness. In addition don’t forget we have Fletch who is still only 25.

  54. vidic will get ya15 says:
