Philippe Auclair, one of France’s most passionate and talented football journalists, has written a book on The King.
“I’d read a great deal about Eric before, and had always felt frustrated by how willing profile writers and biographers were to take his dark legend at face value. It suited everyone, it seems,” said Auclair. “I was also very lucky be already in touch with a number of people who’d been major characters in his story; and I loved the player, of course: the most collectively-minded of all soloists, a true footballer whose greatness was belittled by the excessive admiration or vilification that had come his way.”
PanMacmillan.com are running a competition, well, a give-away really, judging on how easy the question is, with a United shirt signed by Cantona up for grabs as well as five signed copies of this new book. All you have to do is tell them which country Cantona is from. It really is that easy but is only open for UK residents.
RoM have a copy of the book to give away (unfortunately it’s not signed), so once you’ve put yourself in with a chance of winning Pan Macmillan’s competition, send your favourite Eric Cantona quote, whether it’s about him or by him, to firstname.lastname@example.org, with your full name and address.
Cantona: The Rebel Who Would Be King, RRP £17.99, will be available to buy from August 21st 2009.
Made in Manchester is available for just £5. It includes 30 articles from the country's best football writers about graduates from the Manchester United academy. Everyone who buys a copy enters a competition to win the new home shirt. All profit goes to Trafford Macmillan so please support this fantastic cause.
