After Eric Cantona had been sent off at Crystal Palace and walked towards the tunnel, an opposing fan started shouting racist abuse at the Frenchman, which lead to that famous kung-fu kick. Cantona was quite literally attempting to kick racism out of football and it cost him 9 months of his career.
Cantona has spoken out about that incident today in The Mirror.
“I didn’t punch him strong enough,” he said. “I should have punched him harder.”

You don’t wanna f8ck with the KING ;0) Classic..
J
He would have twatted him round the head with a seagull if he had the chance…
Good on ya Eric… never scared to speak ya mind !!
The man is a LEGEND…
Oh Ah…ERIC CANTONA!!! Legend.
For me,hewas(and will always be) the best player in the world.
Fucking legend!
2 wrongs won’t make a right.
What a great line about it….
I also like the one about that was one of his favorite moments of his career.
And Jonny, thanks mom….
Oh how we miss you.
He’s the greatest, kung fu black belt, that the world has ever seen.
I remember being outraged when he did it. His line about it in The Mirror was just bloody funny though.
Condoning violence has never had a better place in football. He should have done the warm down at Chelsea in May.
I agree with Jonny, racism is wrong and punching someone is wrong.
I guess he just couldn’t help it, and let go on the fan.
It’s just a shame that the punch caught him on the cheek and not the jaw. Think how funny it would’ve been had he knocked him out! It was truly a magic moment.
Bravo, Le Roi.
It is one of my most memorable moments in football.
I also wish he would have knocked that mouth piece out.
OOA AHH CANTONA
