Cantona: My Name Is On United’s Bench

Eric Cantona reiterates his plan of returning to England and football one day.

“I will guide probably the strongest team in the world,” said Cantona. “I don’t know how many years will go by before that happens but on the Manchester United bench my name is already written down. I’m not saying Ferguson will leave. I hope he will have eternal life with the Reds, I truly hope so. But for me the only alternative to that of Manchester United is guiding the England national team. I like Fabio Capello as a man and as a motivator. He transmits positive values. He is tough, precise and puts a lot of emphasis on attention to details. It’s what was needed. But I can assure you that sooner or later you will see me guiding England because I have made history at Manchester United and I am number one.”

    what a legend
he just makes me smile these days with lines like
“I have made history at Manchester United and I am number one”

  2. gotta hate tiny tears and co. says:

greatest line in this film looking for eric
and or maybe the greatest line in any film ever made
    “I am not a man

    I am Cantona!!!!!!!! “

  3. jesbit says:

    love this guy!

  4. costas says:

Lol, any child that says Cantona as one of her first words is in for a maqnifique life.I am not sure that Cantona followes football a lot nowdays. It must be difficult for a man with his ego to watch it from the outside.I think the only club in which he could succeed as a manager is United.

  5. wazza says:

has the King done any coaching badges ? he needs to have some badges to even get mentioned in the probables list in the distant future.

  6. gotta hate tiny tears and co. says:

    wazza id say he does
    but look at southgate ?

  7. wazza says:

@GHTT : but you can’t compare Boro with United.look at Guardiola at Barca. he was with their B team and has done fantastic in his 1st season.imo Solskjaer has a chance to succeed Fergie more than King Eric.

  8. mentalred says:

GHTT you are annoying with these links, do you really have to link everything possible to a video of your daughter singing? I appreciate your proud but give it a rest please

  9. cantona7 says:

at soccernet you can read a longer version..although i hate soccernet’s obvious ABU…
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=649483&sec=england&cc=4716

and somewhere near the end of the article he said the following in his comment on the CL final
”We have a great defence and in the latter stages of the season we have achieved much more solidity and awareness of the strength of the team.”ha

    He used “we”.. haha

I would have no objection at all if he succeeds SAF.

  10. costas says:

    It’s a free world mentalred.

  11. Its in my blood says:

    Nah, short on confidence…
@mentalred, you don’t HAVE to use the link mate, GHTT is just a proud dad and rightly so, we should all ensure our offspring grow up die hard reds!

  12. gingerprince says:

Oh Eric please not England ….you deserve better ……

  13. What says:

    I think he’d make a rubbish manager…

“But I can assure you that sooner or later you will see me guiding England because I have made history at Manchester United and I am number one”

You were number one, get over it. That just smacks of arrogance, what the fuck have you achieved as a manager to get even anywhere near the United or England job? Coached a beach-footy team? Yeah, well done, have a cookie…

  14. RedCanuck says:

    Brilliant. Absolutley Brilliant

  15. gotta hate tiny tears and co. says:

    @Its in my blood
    simple put ,thank you

  16. wazza says:

  18. costas says:

GHTT, never feel bad man.As i said above,it’s a free country.Without the links, you are not the same GHTT!

  19. NicoQB says:

Cantona HAS experience as a manger… in beach soccer!!!

He’ll even be a boon for the papers looking for things to write about… Just like Keane and Maureen are…

Here’s a funny youtube about a recent incident involving him in beach soccer!

  20. rooney_thebestest says:

@GHTT…what you share with us beautiful…..Please do not stop…We love it.
@mentalred….your screen name says it all…..either you are seriously frustrated or you need to get your head checked.
I wish King Eric could succeed Sir Alex…but as Wazza rightly pointed out it would be impossible to give him the job of the biggest club in the world without any prior experience(beach footy doesnt count)…but lets give him an ambassadorial role…I bet he would treble our clubs popularity within a month..Love him or not The man’s an absolute fucking kingsized LEGEND….There aren’t many ex reds who could match King Eric’s aura.

  21. theboogeyman says:

@ghtt:Don’t feel bad.mentalred is acting like a jackass.Keep the links and videos coming!!

@What:Cantona is number one and can say whatever the hell he wants to….

  22. King Eric says:

    WOW!

  23. Anant says:

@GHTT : you’ve been on ROM long enough to bother with people like mentalred mate…took a look at your videos for the first time today…n i think you’re doing a great job as a parent
like cristiano said earlier this week : at united its all about family

  24. gotta hate tiny tears and co. says:

i love this family i got on here:)

  25. redrick says:

@GHTT- my wee lad is six and every time i click on your link he says thats my girl, you have been warned!

  26. gotta hate tiny tears and co. says:

    @ redrick
    i love it
my biggest worry as a father when the scan showed i was having a girl, honestly ,was she’d come home one day with a bin dipper lover
if your boy is a fan of the champions then ill see if i can pass only emilys number

  27. denton davey says:

Eric might have been King, but he’ll never be “boss”. This is delusional non-sense.

  28. Gudjohnsen says:

If Cantona wants to replace Fergie one day he should get some licenses and experience, perhaps start out as a youth coach at Old Trafford. There isn’t always an equal sign between being a great footballer and being a great manager. But I love Cantona, I think he might have similar characteristics as a boss as Mourinho, a bit arrogant, cocky and knows he’s excellent.

…and I agree, if you’re Cantona, you can say whatever the fuck you like. But I don’t think Fergie will be leaving just yet and I would assume he wants to leave the club in good experienced hands.

@GHTT – I would be proud too if I had a daughter like that. She’s absolutely adorable. I’m expecting a baby in December, I hope I can do as well as you mate…..and I think there’s no chance she’ll bring home a boy one day that isn’t a Man Utd fan, lol.

  29. gotta hate tiny tears and co. says:

Gudjohnsen thanks mate , we met a fella in the shop the other day that i havent seen un about a year and he is a dipper
and i said to emily he follows liverpool
she was confussed and said no daddy
    liverpool are muck
i dont think she understands that people support that dribble

  30. redrick says:

@GHTT- yes mate he is, til the backbone

  31. gotta hate tiny tears and co. says:

fantastic emily has a little birthmark on her arm and she’ll say its her united tattoo like daddys
but i love the support emily gets
    thank you to everyone
and ill keep the chants coming for those who like them

  32. red-deviless says:

My two little cousins are massive United fans already :D The youngest has some sort of crush on Rooney-she absolutely loves him and she’s only 4 0.o Her dad asked if she could like someone better looking :)
