Cantona: Two Successive CL Titles For United, Please

Eric CantonaManchester United take on Lyon tonight in the Champions League as favourites to progress to the quarter finals. Following a 1-1 away draw in France, United have a crucial away goal and will be hoping to cruise through to the next round.

Eric Cantona has recently spoken out about United’s chances in Europe, saying he hopes Sir Alex Ferguson manages to win another two Champions League titles in his time with the club.

“I really hope United will win it this season,” said Cantona. “And, if they do, I hope they will win another one next year. I’m sure Sir Alex will find the words to help the team win it. That is the key. He has to find goals all the time. If he wins it this year, then he will find another goal for next year. It’s why he’s still at Old Trafford after 21 years. He always finds something more after winning something – that’s why he is the greatest.”

Is this squad capable of winning the European Cup twice in a row?

I think that Eric Cantana is very well respected in Manchester. When Eric talks about Ferguson winning even more Champions Leagues I wonder if he has been helping behind the scenes with some of the big boys in recent years. Was it not the humble Scotsman we saw over in Athens and Paris in recent years. Lol.

Is this current United team good enough to win back-2-back European Cups? I think this is the best United team under Ferguson in terms of talent so anything is possible but I just think the strict, no-nonsense refereeing in European competition does not always suit United style of play.

Everyone thought he was crazy when he said united would win the league last season, look what happened.
    Have faith in Le Roi.

well said smarties. cantona doesn’t mess around with frivolous remarks either. it speaks highly of this year’s club for him to say what he has.

I think that Eric has a subtle point here: if this team can win in May then it is young enough and still improving so that it is not unreasonable to expect more to come. Would SAF be satisfied with a CL title in May or would his juices really start pumping at the prospect of going out on a back-to-back doulbe (or even treble) ? I thnk that this team could do that but, first, they have to win in May.
