Holland coach Louis van Gaal has revealed that Robin van Persie will take Wesley Sneijder’s captain’s armband for the foreseeable future. Sneijder has been dropped from the squad ahead of Holland’s friendly against Portugal, with them currently 7 points clear at the top of Group D ahead of their trip to Estonia next month.
“He is not out of sight, but he must first get in shape,” said Van Gaal. “Then he will probably play with his qualities.”
Van Persie is currently the 3rd highest scorer for his country, 5 goals behind Patrick Kluivert and 2 goals behind Dennis Bergkamp.
Our Dutch striker wore United’s captain’s armband during our pre-season tour, but it still behind the likes of Vidic, Evra and Rio in pecking order.
