Captain Van Persie

RvP captain2Holland coach Louis van Gaal has revealed that Robin van Persie will take Wesley Sneijder’s captain’s armband for the foreseeable future. Sneijder has been dropped from the squad ahead of Holland’s friendly against Portugal, with them currently 7 points clear at the top of Group D ahead of their trip to Estonia next month.

“He is not out of sight, but he must first get in shape,” said Van Gaal. “Then he will probably play with his qualities.”

Van Persie is currently the 3rd highest scorer for his country, 5 goals behind Patrick Kluivert and 2 goals behind Dennis Bergkamp.

Our Dutch striker wore United’s captain’s armband during our pre-season tour, but it still behind the likes of Vidic, Evra and Rio in pecking order.

An injury free Robin Van Persie means another Eric Cantona is in pending..

  2. FletchTHEMAN says:

Robin clearly loves playing in the red shirt and is over the moon to be winning trophies.

There was a great exchange between him and a reporter after the Shield.

Reporter: What are your thoughts of the fact that bookmakers viewed Manchester United as third favourites for the Premier League title.

Robin: [eyes narrowed] “we are the champions,” came his terse reply. “So third favourites? Can you explain that?”

  3. The Truth says:

Didn’t realise how close Robin is to getting the all time goals record for the Dutch. Makes me proud to think that a United man will hold that distinction. He’ll surpass Kluivert’s total easily, so congratulations in advance Robin.

    Proud of this guy.

Robin van Persie is the best player on our team in so many ways.

I hope we win the title again just for him. He is such a determined competitor and is the consumate professional.

He left Arsenal to win tropghies it would be tragic for win to sit at United not winning trophies.

Moyes had better not disappoint. . .
