Carrick: Chelsea Difference Is Not End Of The World

Michael CarrickAs we hoped, the football we played against Wigan has filled our players with confidence over what they can achieve, with Michael Carrick claiming the team are patient enough to deal with the two points difference between us and Chelsea.

“Two points difference is not the end of world for us,” said Carrick. “We’re pretty comfortable with where we are. We are experienced enough to be patient. We know with the run-in, and everyone fit and playing consistently, we’ve a chance. The team has changed a lot in recent weeks but it’s about getting through it and picking up as many points as possible. We played some terrific football against Wigan and looked like the team we know we can be.”

    You’re right Michael, Two points isnt too much at all….But I’d prefer my players to do the talking on the pitch

    Well said Michael Carrick!
    We are patient enough to deal with each game as it comes, and not look at it worry-free like Ancelotti who claims their problems are over (After the departure of drogba, kalou, essien and mikel!!). Apparently the rentboys manager did justice to claim that they are 2 points clear on top means they’re the best team in 6 months!!

    After the game against Wigan and the return from injuries of so many players, I have just one thing to say.

    Be worried, ancelotti. Be VERY WORRIED.

    As for arsenal, ACON will affect them too, I guess. Their Strikerless team will should not be a worry, even if they manage to win their game in hand and go one point above us!

    Happy New Year ROM! And all the readers!!
    May your troubles last as long as your resolutions ;)

    We’re traditionally much better in the second half of the season, so I’m not worried at all.

    There isn’t another team in the league that could have coped with our injuries in defence and only be two points off the top of the league, and to think we’re only going to get stronger as the season goes on must be a scary thought for Chelsea who are going through a bit of a bad patch. They’re set to lose Drogba, Essien, Mikel and Kalou for a few games too so we’ll see what their squad is really like over the next month, unless they sign replacements.

    @Red Devil

    And have they not been doing their talking on the pitch recently?

    Nothing wrong with players stating their intent and their view on the situation. Football is about opinions Us fans have enough, so why cant the players!

    @Stretty

    I think you are spot on, I cant remember a run of major injuries so bad.

    For me the Defence is the key area for consistantcy. Look in comparison over the years at the amount of times the defence gets rotated very rarly i think you will find.

    A great defence needs to be uniformed and work together and you only get that from playing the same players for the majority of the games.

    Up front and Midfield when you change things it can freshen it up and add extra energy.

    I wonder how well Chelsea would do if we took Ceck, Carvalio, Terry & Bowshita out of their team for 4 games!!!!!

    For christ sake, Liverpool only have to loose 1 player and they cant cope!

  7. Bebeto says:

    I won’t even bother going into tactics and team selection from times this season, but that we’ve nearly come through an injury crisis is irrefutable. Some team selections – doubtlessly contributing towards our demise during certain games – have been necessary because of certain absentees.

    With all of that, to be only two points behind at the start of the new year is some achievement.

    Incidentally, I could go on a tangent about how respectable the effort has been from our players. Many fans take success and the pursuit of it for granted, but, after having won three in a row, I might have understood a lack of motivation within our team for the fight. We’re still very much fighting right now. Long may it continue.

  8. King Eric says:

    Bebeto – Yeah agree completely. I wondered if the lads would still have the desire and motivation but they look more dedicated and determined than ever. The team spirit is excellent. This is the mental stength and desire Fergie has always demanded from his players.

    On the same article on the MY Sun blog, contributors wrote that beating Wigan 5-0 is nothing special considering that Spurs beat them 9-0, Arsenal beat them 4-0. To that I respond, United give Spurs a 3-0 and 2-0 advantage and still beat them 3-5 and 5-2. I can’t remember the last time Spurs beat Arsenal and United’s record v Arsenal is very good. As for the Fulham and Villa comments, you both know that for the last 5 or 6 weeks United have had to play with a makeshift defence as 7 out of 8 defenders have been out injured. That’s the one and only reason Zamora was bossing everyone around. He had his chance and took it knowing that the next time it won’t be the same. The same can be said of the Villa game. Carrick’s point is that the party for the others is over and only just starting for us with all the squad coming back to fitness. We are only two points behind Chelsea and that’s bad news for them. Chelsea have had their share of wrong decisions going in their favour in the last games, West Ham non existing penalty and a Portsmouth goal wrongly disallowed. The Fulham Chelsea match I did not watch, but was told Fulham cuold have won it too. Now Chelsea have a few African players away, and the real test for them starts now. Let’s see how their academy youngsters fare in the top flight. Or will they go out and buy. United are just 2 points behind Chelsea with all the injury problems we had. We’ll see how many points Chelsea will be behind United by the time the African players are back. Arsenal won’t last the mile.

    I still think being only 2 points behind Chelski is brilliant for us. All the shit we’ve had to endure in the opening half of the season, all the defenders we’ve had out plus Chelski have had it pretty easy.

    We could be 8-10 points behind by now, we’re in a great position!
