Carrick: I love everything about being a United player

Michael Carrick’s current contract expires in 2012 and talks over a new deal haven’t begun. Rumours suggest he won’t be offered another contract and will be sold or used as part of an agreement to bring someone else in next summer.

Still, Carrick has made his intentions clear, stating he wants to stay at the club.

“Nothing has happened regarding talks as yet, but this is the place for me – it’s a great club,” said Carrick. “I’ve had some unbelievable times here and, hopefully, will have many more. I love everything about being a United player.”

    C’mon Newcastle!

  6. smartalex says:

I think we will offer him a new contract. He is proven quality, and should remain part of the squad.

    Connery*

  10. schmadmir says:

In form he is a fabulous, composed passer of the ball, well suited to our style of play.
He can control the tempo of the game, maybe not as well as Scholes (but who can?), but good
    enough.

However, his lack of consistency has been a problem, let’s pray it’s behind him and he can show his true qualities!

  11. sprite says:

You dont see all the dirty work Carrick is doing during the game that clearly.
He is a bit like Xabi Alonso, who were the engine of the Liverpool team.

The defence can always pass to him and he will keep the ball in the team, he is also damn good with interceptions with his long legs and can also do very much in attack.. He does actually have one hell of a shot, and also creative passes..

Fergie wont sell him, are you nuts.

  12. smartalex says:

Watched Highlander last night, Connery does a good spaniard, (no, not Penelope!)
    There can only be one!

  13. smartalex says:

    Drogba is a filthy cunt!

  14. Always Be Closing says:

    @Koolburn – I’d rather sell you.

  15. red till im dead says:

Carrick was a hugely important player for us a few years back, but has had a long spell of poor form. Last 2 games he has looked like he’s getting back to his best. I’d like him to stay and continue as a United player.

  16. smartalex says:

    Kalou has equalized.

  17. bbabyj says:

Koolburn and supatrice are joking, I hope. :)

  18. Moscow is my heaven says:

Ameobi is unbelievably shit. He has broken down so many Newcastle attacks. No pace, no skill, no balance. Just hilariously crap. He has been Chelsea’s man of the match so far.

  19. Corea says:

Not his biggest fan but 06-07 season he made a great duo with Scholesy that helped us win the title. Time will tell.

  20. redrider says:

    @Moscow is my heaven

:-) totally agree…Think they’d play a lot better if he was out of the pitch…

  21. Whiteside Curler says:

His agent won’t be happy, has he learnt nothing from the Rooney fiasco?

  22. Ash says:

I doubt whether he will be here next season.MAYBE will be sold as a part of a deal for someone.

  23. red_october says:

I hope Newcastle can score a couple more.

  24. Fze123 says:

The most underrated player in the premier league.

  25. Joel says:

He was very poor throughout almost the whole of last season, but his form seems to have picked up in the last few games. If he can maintain (or even improve) this level of performance I feel he still has something to offer to the club.

  26. Doghouse says:

You have to watch a lot of United’s games to know why Carrick is important because you absolutely will never figure it out from the media or watching match highlights. Any coverage the media has of United tends to be 50% about Rooney, then maybe a bit about who scored the goals and rarely any analysis. Carrick is part of the machinery of our midfield, the word cog was used above and that’s one way of looking at it, but I don’t think that does him justice. He’s the go-to guy, need to get the ball out of defence? Carrick. Under pressure in the opponents half and need to offload the ball? Carrick. Opponents countering? Carrick’s there. His passing is very good with flashes of genius, his work rate is usually exceptional and I don’t think he gets anything like the credit he deserves.

We have paid tens of millions of pounds for players that have failed to do the job he does for us, Juan Veron was perhaps the highest profile of the players that couldn’t do Carrick’s job, but there were plenty of others like Djemba Djemba or Kleberson, and while we struggled to find a go-to guy in midfield we struggled on the pitch.

Long story short, we need Carrick. We need him a lot more than the majority of the fans will probably ever realise.

  27. McQueen says:

Joel – exactly, it’s down to him. We know what he can offer us when he’s playing well. Gutierrez is having a really good game for newcastle atm! C’mon geordies, sunderland did it….

  28. Costas says:

    Sell Carrick and buy Mikel.

    And come on Newcastle.

  29. reDalerT says:

i think he’s getting back his form in the past couple of games, and with anderson back, i think the two complement each other nicely, carrick holds and anderson pushes.. works well atm

  30. devilnani says:

Loves Utd but he is simply not consistent enough. Also cracks under pressure when the opposition closes him down.

  31. bchilds says:

How old is Carrick now, 29? Not sure if he should be offered a contract extension. His recent form has been superb but he’s so inconsistent for the last 2 seasons.

Next summer would be our last chance to get some money for his.

  32. Costas says:

Hang in there Newcastle. Where’s Smudge ffs?

  33. stretfordend_ryda says:

he was shit again yesterday he just kept on passing it back to van der sar

  34. smartalex says:

    Newcastle 1:1 Chelsea
    Fucking Yay!

  35. Joel says:

    United back on top!

  36. Costas says:

Top of the league! First time in 8 months!

  37. Costas says:

Now I really hope Berb and the lads kept a few goals in the locker for Blackpool. We have to start winning away from home.

  38. Fze123 says:

How on earth did Newcasle not concede a second? I only had to watch the last 20 minutes to witness their comical defending. Fucking yes! Unbeaten and top of the league!

  39. Corea says:

Yeah, we are top and we will be top for a week at least and all those ABUs now must endure the pain of seeing us there :)
For the whole of the game commentators kept saying Chelsea’ve done enough to get 3 points and after the final whistle the name of the team on top was pronounced so quietly. Cunts.

  40. carlnorth says:

Carrick is a great player. Goes about his business quietly and breaks up play, starts quick counters, finds balls that others wouldn’t. If he scored a few more goals he’d be one of the best centre midfielders in the league. You only have to compare our record with and without to see he’s an integral part of our team. Best performance of the season yesterday (goals aside). And now the scum have dropped more point. GET IN THERE!!!!

  41. Kings says:

Corea – Hello mate. Yeah all those ABU bastards will be pissed seeing us top of the league after massacaring us at some of our abject performances and licking Chelsea’s arse. We have character in our team, especially at the way we came back against Villa, although there were 3 games in which we imploded this season. Nevertheless, we are top, and let’s hope we stay there. Blackpool away next, then 2 tests of our credentials against Arsenal (H) and Chelsea (A).

Yeah cunts they are, whispering our name at the top of the table. Then what do you expect from a hairy bastard Coventry City Fan?!

  42. Ballin... says:

Like its been said before, most underrated player in the premier league. No wonder idiots thing he should be sold, havent u seen in the past few games what an inform carrick can do?

  43. Corea says:

Kings – hey mate. Chelsea had to win against Brimingham as well. Only Sunderland were credited with some of the plaudits. And when you think they are without Fatty one, Essien and the tiny tears it’s just a matter of time when they will be back on top again. Cunts.

  44. redevil forever says:

    we love you too carrick

  45. Zelh says:

    Top of the league.
    just where we belong!

  46. lidija says:

top of the league- where we belong, and yes Carrick belongs with us- he will stay and keep his form

  47. Ash says:

If we beat blackpool and arsenal then we could afford a draw at the bridge.I say this because chelski will lose points against spurs on 12th of dec.Just hope we win our next two.Now the season has begun in a real way.Wont be surprised if fergie buys a midfielder this january.

  48. devilnani says:

    @ballin
Tell me one game in this season where he her been on form apart from yesterday. They say that he does the simple things efficiently & passes the ball around. Big deal…. Fletcher does the exact same thing & more. Compare him to the rivals to see who he is up against… Fabregas, gerrard, essien, modric in epl .. Xavi, ozil in la liga.. Snieder, pirlo in seria A..
He is simply not in their class.

  49. YorYor says:

We all know that the club’s stand on players turning/going over 30 is not more than 2 years, or on a rolling annual contract. I’ve no doubt that Carrick will be kept at United, probably until 2014. Much to the dismay of some it seems. Sometimes we expect midfielders to make forward passes all the time, but I’ve now started to realise that keeping possession is an important part of our game, especially when the opposition is all about sitting behind the ball – those are the times when we need to frustrate them and continue to prod them until they make a mistake.
Like the look of him in the team, especially when he plays like he did yesterday.

  50. devilnani says:

i meant ‘has’ not ‘her’. Damn mobile..

  51. Busby says:

He is a class player, well worth his place in the squad. His lack of pace and superior positioning means that he will be a force well into his 30s. As long as his agent doesn’t take the p*ss over his wages, I see no reason why he won’t continue here.

  52. Ballin... says:

    @devilnani
I dont know if you saw the rangers game or not, but he was absolutely brilliant. I understand where your coming from, even if you think he’s not on the same level as other central midfielders around the world you still cant deny that he’ll play an important part post scholesy. Even if he doesnt feature on the first team can still be a key squad player. So people thinking that he should be sold and shit is absolutely ridiculous.

  53. wayne says:

i think alot of his poor play was down to playing with injuries since the operation he’s come back and looked really good and as some of the lads pointed out his game has nothing to do with pace so age shouldn’t effect him that much, plus we know he can fill in at centre half if needed, aslong as his wage demands aren’t crazy i think utd should sign him

  54. willierednut says:

Just when you think Michael Carricks United career is done like a Christmas turkey, he puts in a couple of top performances. Keep playing like that Michael and I’ll do a complete flip flop on you as a player, great stuff lad.

  55. King Eric says:

Always rated carrick and stood by him. I remember ear
ly o8/o9 season a debate on here where a hell of a lot of people said he was better than alonso. People say his head went after rome even rumours of heavy drinmking but think his problem was injuries particulary his achilles. Post charity shield he has been slowly getting back to his classy self. Always available. Picks the ball up off the back four. Makes forward runs. Reading of the game is top drawer. Great at breaking up play and when on form fantastic passer of the ball. A great part of our squad and a decent lad. Devilnani. How many winners medals have those greats you mention have playing in the engine room?

  56. gobiunited says:

Carrick had a blinding game yesterday, his passing is fantastic. If he keeps going from that Blackburn show I wouldn’t want him sold

  57. Dave Malaysia says:

With all due respect to different opinions,Michael Carrick is a Manchester United player,he has done whatever was asked of him ,be it midfeild holding ,fowards or defense, would be great for the deserved respect and gratitude from us,dont u guys think?

If he completes and continues his recovery ,and starts to exert more authority in that midfield, plus his experience ,he will get a new contract,he deserves it.

Love and respect Michael Carrick.Progress with Manchester United.

  58. Red Typhoon says:

    @Devilnani
With all due respect to you opinions on carrick and fletch….me thinks carrick would be a better bet this time around, especially if he can keep up his performance from yesterday!! Fletch has been ok this season but not really effective as he tends to keep passing the ball sideways and backwards most of the time…showing his lack of confidence…he does not make driving runs like what Ando did yesterday…he’s just not up to it this season…the other thing about fletch i realised this season is..he tends to release the ball too quickly(either sideways or backwards) and slow down our attacking play…he is definitely lacking in confidence for some reason..i honestly hope he gets his form back as i am an admirer of fletch but for now..he is lacking in certain aspects of his game…this is my humble opinion of what i have observed of fletch this season…

  59. hammons says:

carrick has been fantastic in our last two matches. completely QB’d the match against Rangers and did well partnering and feeding Anderson against Rovers….

    Carrick Holds The Key
Michael Carrick had what can only be described as a topsy-turvy season last year, so he will be looking to make amends this season, which can only benefit Manchester United.

    http://www.theunitedreligion.com/2010/08/carrick-holds-key.html

  60. Devil310 says:

Sell Carrick? You must be on drugs. Carrick just needs a partner in midfield to do the running for him. Ando when in form allows mike to set tempo while giving him the freedom to run the ball around. In other words, Carrick’s sort of our Berba in the middle

  61. manc_sam says:

    SCHWIENSTEGER !!!!!!!!! or however u spell it…!

  62. willierednut says:

Bastian the beast would be a worthy addition to our squad. Imagine a midfield of Bastian, Fletch and Ando/Carrick, that midfield would win the champions league, no sweat.

  63. RedMist says:

A good Carrick is better than Gerrard or Lamps and vital to us playing well. He just needs to rediscover some form, which to be fair, in recent weeks he is starting to look like the player we had in his first three years here. is finally over niggling injuries that have slowed him down terribly.
Give him another contract and let him tie down a place in CM. Top player who has lost his mojo in recent years, but i think he’s getting it back now.

  64. denton davey says:

willierednut @ 13:28: “Bastian the beast would be a worthy addition to our squad. Imagine a midfield of Bastian, Fletch and Ando/Carrick, that midfield would win the champions league, no sweat.”

Amen. BUT, of course, I demur – because that’s what I do.

I reckon that IF Schweini was to be purchased then he’d be the NumberOneMan in midfield and the others would be complementary. In that case, it would be a tricky decision about whether or not to provide Michael Carrick with a new contract worth about 80,000/week for two years.

On the other hand, IF the GingerNinja and the Welsh Wizard and RedNev and Edwin were all to retire then there would be a huge savings in the weekly pay-packet which could mean that UTD could afford BOTh Schweini and MichaelCarrick.

And, just to be perverse, what about the vaunted midfield youth players like Tom Cleverley and Paul Pogba and the Italian kid (Petrucci ?) and so on ? Would re-signing MichaelCarrick in addition to Schweini block their progress.

The point here is that turnover/transition is on-going and it’s hard to keep track of all the balls-in-the-air that SAF is juggling.

  65. YorYor says:

Tom Cleverly looks the forward-running type of midfielder. Perhaps a good one to pair Carrick and see how they do. We’ll know what SAF thinks of his chances come January, or latest June.
Got a feeling if he’s brought back in Jan, it could mean that Scholes might be retiring this season.
Reckon Pogba’s gonna have to play in the Reserves for another full season before starting to get a look in at the Carling Cup games…

  66. FletchTHEMAN says:

You lads are having a laugh. Carrick is good investement for the next 3 years. Carrick was injured most of last year from a nasty achilles problem and only been feeling himself this past 2 months. Not surprising that all have praised his performances since. Also, he is a good man who won’t complain if on the bench now and again and won’t be demanding that the bank be broken.
But more to the point, what exactly is the plan if you sell Carrick? True we get a bit more back since he won’t be as valuable in 3 years, but my view is that you have to have your plan A in mind before he goes. So let’s consider our central mid fielders at the moment.
Fletch, Anderson, Scholes, Carrick, Park?. I am not asking for pipe dreams from the reserves. I am asking what is plan A next winter went Scholes is gone and Fletch needs a break, or if Fletch and Anderson are injured. OK, we would all love to have Schweinsteiger. And that might be plan A, but if you truely believe in Fergies dream of 2 A teams, then Carrick is better here than at Everton, Villa or Spurs. I will hold the door open for Michael to leave if we have Schweinsteiger and if Cleverly is ready for prime time. If that is not certain, then I think we might keep Carrick at least one more year. The discussion probably needs to be about Hargo and Valencia coming back. One can only hope they come back as Michael has.
