Carrick: Night In Moscow Was Best Of My Life

carrickriowesMichael Carrick will almost certainly start on Wednesday night as we take on CSKA Moscow in the Luzhniki Stadium. Several players have been ruled out as unavailable but Carrick will be making the trip to the stadium where we won the European Cup in 2008.

Carrick says that was the best day of his career but is still haunted by what happened in Rome a year later.

“Without doubt Moscow was the best day of my career. Nothing tops that,” said Carrick. “But I do take more from the losses and the negatives. They are the things that spur me on. It is great when you are winning leagues and being successful but that night in Rome will haunt us for a long time. The only way to shake it off is to try and win it again. Until then it will still feel bitter. What happened that night still hurts.”

That statment there makes you a full fledged Manchester united in my opinion . They always want to win and better rhemselda. Ronny Johnson on the couch ride back to the team hotel after the 1999 champions league final said something along the lines of , if I never win another trophy in my life I’ll be happy with winning this, then keano lost it at him saying the new season starts now
excellent attitude out of carrick who I hope has sorted out fully what ever he had to sort out at the start of the season

  3. Tufty says:

GHTT – It was Dwirgt Yorke who said that, not Johnson.

  4. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

No tufty it wasnt it was Johnson who said it as he was talkin to yorke and when keane went into a rant yorke stood up against keane and they had a verbal so your wrong there mate
you won’t take me down buddy

  5. Tufty says:

GHTT – Whats with the attitude today?

from what ive read, it was Dwight Yorke who said that, he had a large cigar at the time.

Quick question for you lot…..Have got business commitments that I can’t get out of down in London on Sunday so have had to give my ticket to Anfield to my brother. Does anyone know of any United pubs/bars in central London? Need somewhere with a bit of atmoshphere if possible. Thanks in advance guys,

  13. Tufty says:

Moscow was great but nothing will ever top the nou camp.
    I dunno which is better
99 ending was unreal and will never be seen again
but as a Giggs fan Moscow had that amazing feeling
    50 years etc
    it was just amazing

  19. willierednut says:

Ole sticking that leg out the rest is history, always be top for me.

  20. HARGREAVES' CURLY HAIR says:

it was also a great night. i screamt so hard i couldn’t talk for a whole day the day after. 99 was definately the greatest european cup final comeback not even the dippers come close as i thought their win in 2005 was a fluke milan let them off the hook, even stevie me dived for the penalty that was converted by alonso. you don’t win trophies by cheating but what can you expect from bin dipping rat munching stealing scousers?

  21. Hughsie88 says:

Tufty, I thought the people at this blog were not narrow minded enough to believe that you are a better fan just because you come from Salford. I’m sure those of us who aren’t lucky enough to have been born and grown up in the shadow of Old Trafford with chances to go to more games are jealous of that, and there is an aspect of geographical pride when it comes to football – but Man Utd fans don’t just support United because they happen to be a stone’s throw away from Busby Road – they fall in love with the club, the history, the footballing philosophy, the players, the highs, lows and characters that embody the spirit of United, and winning the ‘post code lottery’ to be born in Manchester doesn’t exclude others from having similar feelings of loyalty and support to United.

  22. theboogeyman says:

For me,I will always enjoy Moscow more than anything else.18 titles is a close second.

  23. HARGREAVES' CURLY HAIR says:

    @Hughsie88
    great post bang on mate.

  24. Fze123 says:

    neli g, lol.

Moscow was a great great night. Rome was a great great dissapointment, I suffered from severe depression for 2 whole weeks like many other fans. Great attitude from carrick, and from the rest of the utd players who are still haunted by that defeat, they know they owe us a european cup and have to make amends.

This many sound absurd, but if we win the CL league this season, to me it will feel even better than when we won the treble. Because of a million countless things.

  25. bchilds says:

One of the best nights of my life, personally I don’t think I will ever get such a thrill in football as I did in May 1999 but in Moscow it came close!

  26. ashhotjet90 says:

Was immense that night , Carrick . Wasn’t he voted the man of the match? He did everything right and was at the centre of our 58% possession . Need him back to that form , has lost it a little since that game at the San siro in feb . Moscow was the best United moment of my life , i was not a United fan in 1999 , i didn’t watch football at that time . But i think the best United moment was at Nou camp .

  27. five says:

It was either Ronaldo or Van Der Sar who got voted man of the match I cant recall.
