Valencia joined the season late, missing out on the pre-season, when recovering from his injury. “It was tough not being able to go away and do a proper pre-season with the lads,” he said. “But as the season went on, I managed to pick up and my fitness improved and as a squad we’ve put in a good performance.”

Sammy was the last youth player Sir Matt Busby signed for United when he moved from Belfast as a 15-year-old. He made his first team debut as a 17-year-old on derby day and scored in the game which finished 3-3. He spent 13 years at United and only 19 players have made more appearances for the club than him.
