Manchester United have been drawn against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final.
If United make it through to the semi-finals, they were will play the winner of the Lyon vs Bordeaux tie.
Bayern Munich are currently top of the league in Germany, but United are in a good position of playing the second leg at home.
In the other draws, Arsenal will play Barcelona whilst Inter Milan take on CSKA Moscow.

Man Utd News 24/7

great draw we get to take out the germans and then the french on route to the final
good morning all.
Munchen will give us a test but the possibility of a Barca final should carry them thru the quarters and then against the winner of Lyon v Bordeux. It is huge to have the second leg at home and United should make the most of it just as they did with Milan.
Bring on the dippers. 2 more whole days to wait. Going to kill me.
@ Wayne. CL being what it is, we are going to have to take down the rest of Europe to win this thing.
What a draw!
What a sensational draw for us – let Inter and Barca fight amongst themselves, and maybe get caught out against a weaker side.
Would have traded CSKA for Lyon, but otherwise we have the softest teams (all relative) in our side of the draw.
What a draw. Don’t take them easy they are team to beat. 99 memory.
bring on the germans!
I’m happy with that draw. Bayern won’t be a pushover but I’m confident we can get past them.
Arsenal v Barca should be a good game.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “Manchester are a team who are ranked right at the top. We will have to push ourselves to our limits and possibly even beyond to go through. Manchester are the favourites, but that is where the attraction lies: to try to beat a favourite.”
Happy with that, I would have been happy to have been drawn against Barca to show people we can mix it with them but revenge will be ours in the final!
Marching in to Germany, then down through France and finally on to Spain (Madrid) for the prize – can’t wait
we fly to Germany then play Chelsea 2 days later.
Great draw for United i don’t think we’ll get a better chance to get to a 3rd final in a row.
Does anyone know the rules on Squad Replacements. Caught the end of an interview on Sky Sports and they were talking about Hargreaves but he isn’t registered so I don’t understand why they are discussing him.
I know you can sometimes make replacements for long term injuries and we have 2 (Maybe 3/4, i’m not sure what the prognosis is on De Laet and O’Shea was supposedly out for the season BUT I read somewhere he may be close to a comeback. Anderson couldn’t be replaced as he is a B list player anyway but Owen obviously could)
@rodakill4u thats true but we have a great chance to get their and if barca makes it,it’ll be a great final and a chance for us to redeem oursevles
i personally would want to face Barca in the semis or quarters. Its just i think we are fully capable of beating them over 2 legs, one match is quite nervy…
Bayern are pretty much useless. I know all the cliches about not counting chickens, but they are. We should murder them.
Going to talk even more rubbish here, but HELLO FINAL.
Some good news. The first leg is on Tuesday night, not Wednesday night. An extra day’s rest before Chelsea.
Bayern will be tough make no mistake about that. I’m predicting a very cagey couple of games. I’m confident though, United generally have the ‘know-how’ these days and we could do a lot worse than Bayern.
Don’t like the tight fixture before Chelsea though…
off topic just read mail online real approached the rooney camp about a possible move and was told to look elsewere can this day get any better.lottery over here is at 42 mill i’m going to buy a ticket
Bayer SS Wunderwafe Munich?It’s going to be our another revenge.Since 06/07 we revenge to Benfica, chelskis, Porto,teens from arsenal, Milan and now that Nazi team. The only worry is that we are playing 3 days before a title decider with rent boys.
return tickets to Madrid £109.12… seriously considering it!
Jay says:
we fly to Germany then play Chelsea 2 days later.
Like Costa said, we play on the Tuesday first. You probably did what I did and looked at BBC news to see the fixture list. They had us down on Wednesday first.
Probably the best draw we could of hoped for. Out of all the teams I didn’t fancy CSKA. imagine having to travel to moscow a few days before playing Chelsea.
Is this Bayern team supposed to be hard in the same way that Milan were hard? My impression was that they are pretty rubbish and I read with interest some saying this is tough. Then I looked back at the results in the competition. They’ve lost three champions league matches this year, twice to Bordeaux then to Fiorentina.
They aren’t ‘Barcelona tough’ or even ‘Arsenal tough’. They are ‘Spurs tough’. Bordeaux will be far harder I think.
we need fear no one at this stage, at the same time, we must not take things for granted. i am fairly pleased with the draw but there’s really no need to talk about possibly barca in the final now. arrogant soldiers usually fall.
let’s focus on stuffing the German! (i work in a german firm, it’s going to be interesting ha!)
Come On Uinted!
brett1985
Agree with that pal, if we’re to get to the final Bordeaux will be the hardest team we’ll face till Barca in the final.
Lot of people writing bayern off. Dont know how many people watch them week in week out to make that kindof a statement.
@Aig Alex: i like Karl-Heinz Rummeneige’s statemen, but i hope the favorite one (us, ManUnited) will get rid of them.
@Briggsy
Did BBC do that? I didn’t know. I just looked at manutd.com and found the date there. Like you, I wasn’t looking forward to travelling to Moscow before a potential title decider with Chelsea. The game with Bayern will be draining, but we have that extra day now.
Of course things work in the opposite way in the semis. We will play those over 6 days, not 8. But for those games, we have Spurs at home in the middle. So we are better off than the game we have between the quarters.
Just found out that the first semi is at home. So our progran will be like this:
Wed 21 April: Lyon/Bordeaux at home
Sat 24 April: Spurs at home
Tues 27 April: Lyon/Bordeaux away
Sounds good. Fingers crossed we make it to the semis!
It looks like we will get a chance to get our revenge against Barca in Bernabau of all places!
We should not have problems with Bayern or either French Team. Bayern should not be more difficult than AC Milan this year or Inter and Arsenal last year.
@aig i don’t think its writing them off but we all know utd are a better team when focused.like brett said spurs tough so aslong as we show up we should do the buisness
@AIG
I don’t know why it is either. Maybe because they struggled against Fiorentina. But it’s possible that they underestimated the Italians. It won’t be an easy tie for us. The key could be how we neutralise their wingers. They play on the opposite wings right? So that means Ribery will play against Neville(or Rafa) and Robben will play against Evra.
Don’t watch Bayern week in or week out but in the Champions league they’ve not been very convincing. Struggled to get through the group and was very lucky to get through the last 16 after two dodgy decision in the first game.
@Xyth
Yeah that’s the dream scenario isn’t it? And imagine the Real fans! Their hated rivals and the team that they thought they weakened by buying their best player, gracing their stadium!
Can anyone remember the last time we had a repeat of last year’s final?
We shouldn’t write them off this easily knowing that they have Ribery and Robben on either wings
@Costas
Very true. Robben is on fire at the moment. It is not only his pace and direct running but any freekck 25 yards out and he hammers it in the back of the net. His long distance shooting is also good. Rafael/neville Vs Ribery is very worrying too. Ribery though is injured half of the time so not sure wheteher he will play. Thomas Muller is a good young player
on the positive side for us their defence isnt the best and can be susceptible. Van Buyten, Demicheles, Badstuber have all made some mistakes this term when under pressure. They are good going forward but susceptible at the back
we’ve got to batter bayern at home then we play young ones in germany!
cause 2 days later its CFC
Yeah, actually we’ve never had a repeat of the previous season’s final.
Simple we don’t knock Bayern out we don’t deserve to win it. Score draw will do me in Germany, Robben and Ribery will be far more dangerous than any of that Milan midfield. This time they have no Oliver Khan or Elber to save their asses!
brett – Agree with all you say today pal. Bring em on.
I’m disappointed that we didn’t get Barca for the quarters and will not get them for the semis aswell.Look,frankly,we have a easy path to the final but the same can be said about Barca aswell.So had we played them at this stage,we had a great chance to knock them out.Now it appears that both teams are likely to feature in the final,and in a final,there are no favourites.Having Fletcher play isn’t going to give us the edge,nor is the bitter experience of last year’s defeat going to play a role if we and Barca reach the final.Everything is going to start afresh,the slate has been wiped off.I sincerely hope now atleast Arsenal beat Barca.
The best draw is Arsenal vs Barca. Get one of them out early. Bayern are a decent side but no way we won’t beat them. Get an away goal at the Allianz and the tie should be ours. The final really does await us.
Rooney22United says:
“i personally would want to face Barca in the semis or quarters. Its just i think we are fully capable of beating them over 2 legs, one match is quite nervy…”
It is.The mentality with which a 2 legged tie is approached is not the same as approaching a grand finale.And that is the reason why I’m sooooo disappointed that we didn’t get Barca for neither the quarters nor the semis.
Just because we had the bitter experience of losing to Barca in last years final doesn’t mean there’s any gurantee that we will perform better than last time.
@ashish you want to get to the show and out of all the remaining teams barca would be the biggest fear of getting knocked out.i think utd can beat anyone on the day but i’m very happy with the draw lets get there we might not even play barca which would be a bigger bonus
Barcelona don’t have it easy at all. Arsenal will be a different proposition for them compared to the sides they usually play. And if they get past Arsenal, they will face Mourinho who knows how to get the best of them them. And this year, they can’t only focus on the Ch.League because Real are breathing down their neck in Spain. And quite honestly, they are not as hungry as they were last season. So neither them, nor United are in Madrid yet.
beating bayern is easy. we’ll tell them we have ole solskjaer on the bench for the second leg!
@Costas
Spot on again
Going by some of the comments about a United Barca final and revenge you will feel we are in the finals already and i think Barca WILL NOT make it to the final. It will be United Vs. Inter
@costas i agree but we couldn’t have asked for a better draw to get there and thats all we can ask for
@ashish “you want to get to the show and out of all the remaining teams barca would be the biggest fear of getting knocked out.i think utd can beat anyone on the day but i’m very happy with the draw lets get there we might not even play barca which would be a bigger bonus”
Yes it would be the greatest bonus the Lord could ever gift us this season if Barca get knocked out by either Arsenal,Inter or CSKA.But I believe that the present moment would have been perfect to play Barca instead of a final where form doesn’t come into the picture.The nerves you get in a final when you play against Barca aren’t that much when you play them in a 2 legged tie.Whatever tactics/plans that need to be modified by Fergie can be better implemented in the quarters or the semis instead of a final.That’s the reason why I’m disappointed that we aren’t going to be meeting Barca in neither the quarters nor the semis.
Costas,I agree with you that Barca don’t have it easy against neither Arsenal nor Inter.But deep down inside you,I and many others know that despite Guardiola claiming that “we should be cautious” and Alves saying,”we need to take it step by step and remain our humility” they are,the most likeliest team alongside us,to reach the finals don’t you?
Rafa Da Silva, Evans and Giggs fit for Sunday rio and vidic are 100%Hargo is right on track
scholes rested rooney on fire tony and nani are both fighting it out for whos the starting left winger
berbatov is magic van der sar is van der sar
apun typing this post the hair on my arms stood up
I love the draw because when you look at it, it gives Barcelona the maximum chance of getting knocked out by other teams and one side of the draw is just big teams who will inevitably knock eachother out.
@AIG
We will see. I think United have one high obstacle ahead and Barca have two. But we both make it there, it will be something very special and it would be interesting to see how the locals at Madrid would swing.
@wayne
That’s true. No complaints about the draw. Last night, I joked that I wanted Bordeaux, Lyon and CSKA in our branch for the quarters and the semis. And apart from Bayern, that’s what we got. But it’s still a long way until the final. For us, and even more so for Barcelona.
@Costas
In the semis, we play the second one at home, not the first isn’t?
Al least that’s what I read.
@Ashish
Having Fletcher play and the memory of last year’s defeat isn’t going to give us an edge? What are you on? Can I have some?
Couldn’t give a toss what Barcelona do. We know what our route to the final will lets focus on that and more importantly #19. Champions League is a nice distraction, I think we’ll get past Bayern especially with the 2nd leg at OT. By the semis it would be nice to have a bit of a gap in terms of points in the league but it doesn’t look that way.
brett1985 says:
“I love the draw because when you look at it, it gives Barcelona the maximum chance of getting knocked out by other teams and one side of the draw is just big teams who will inevitably knock eachother out.”
I agree with you Barca have a higher chance than us of getting knocked out but no matter how much Guardiola urges people and the media to calm down and enthuses that “we have to be cautious”,it’s pretty obvious that they are also the likeliest team to reach the finals alongside us don’t you?
@Ashish
I really don’t know mate. Are they on paper the favorites out of those 4 teams to reach Madrid? Yes. But I have a feeling that they are in for a shock at some point. And I stated the reasons. Every year they have been knocked out in the Ch.League in the last 5 years, it’s to an English side. Chelsea, Liverpool and United. So now it could be Arsenal’s turn. Inter can’t match them in terms of skill an ability, but they can frustrate them a lot. We will see.
@Danillaço
Our website says that the first semi is at OT and the second is away.
Sanj,
There’s no gurantee that having Fletcher or any other big game player for that matter is going to give any team the edge in a final where form has no meaning.
It all depends on the attitude of the team.If we reach the final having lost the league then our attitude and spirit might be on the low side.The same can be said about Barca aswell.
Which was why I preferred to play Barca at this moment of time because this would have been a perfect time to test our mettle.The morale of the team is very high at this stage isn it not?Whether it remains the same till May or not,we can only speculate.There’s no certainty.
If any team can prevent Barca from reaching the final,that will be the day I plaster the biggest grin on my face.Provided that we are still in the Champions League though.
I’m wary of facing them in the final.It’s not that I lack faith in the team…it’s just that nasty surprises can happenj on the biggest stages.Just imagine if we lose 2 finals on the trot to those bull fighting Spaniards.I’m not being pessimistic but you can just imagine the pain Fergie would have to go through missing out on the CL on 2 occassions.
Am chuffed with the draw…Bayern is a tricky proposition, But interestingly if we go through we may face Laurent Blanc… I have a feeling the Semi Final and Final could be a duel between Sir Alex and one of his probable successors, Blanc, Pep and Jose (who just cant be ruled out)
Ashish
In isolation Barcelona will be favorites to reach the final but the Champions League is a tough compeition and they have the toughest of opponents. Put Barcelona in enough tough games and the outcome will not always be like Chelsea last year.
Great draw. think we will see SAF and jose in the final. inter look strong! fletch and wazza will be the keyplayers rest of the tournament.
Fantastic draw, now we can finally see how shite that cheese eating buck toothed strangled chicken looking inbreed cunt Ribery really is. He won’t get a fucking kick.
Box head land here we come.
while it looks like an easy draw, i’m still a little weary about bayern. ribbery and robben ARE world class wingers while pat will have one of them in his pocket, the right side of our defence still gives me cold sweats. i know gary neville marked bucktooth out of the park in second leg, i get incredibly nervous on european nights. what do you guys think?
but lets batter those scouse scum!
LUHG
@goatina lol thats fucking awesome
Am happy with the draw – we should beat Bayern and either of the French teams
I think Arsenal will surprise people against Barcelona – let’s hope Van Persie and co and are all fit and knock out Barcelona
Am excited now – bring on Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern & Barcelona!!!!!
remember me
http://www.studs-up.com/2010/03/sounds-vaguely-familiar/
@Costas
I don’t agree mate i think Arsenal are made for Barca, can’t see anything but a Barca win.
@ Asish
“Just imagine if we lose 2 finals on the trot to those bull fighting Spaniards”
Hmmm Asish. So many things wrongs with that comment. I’m sure the “cules” of Barça wouldn’t take kindly to being called Spanish, and secondly, bullfighting is banned in Catalunya.
Much better to say, “Just imagine we lose 2 finalas on the trot to those fickle, fair-weather, bitifarra-eating, Sardana-dancing Catalans”.
Actually, probably better to say neither but just hope we stuff ‘em in the final!
My workmate just did this…
Franck-enstein…
http://i41.tinypic.com/24ozlol.jpg
It’s probably been mentioned already (and I can’t be bothered checking now that the comments are broken up into seperate pages) but not including Hargreaves in the CL squad could come back to bite us, now that it looks like he could have played a useful part after all.
We will give Bayern troubles on the wings because Robben and Ribbery can not defend. Park will play a big role in both games.
yes this is a tough draw, it would have been even tougher if the tie was at OT first, but the massive hope united now have is united play away first, arsenal are in huge trouble because they are playing at home forst and of they play has badly has they did in porto they are toast. But the one thing bayern have over united is the world class talented wingers of ribery and robben who they would walk into the united 11 in a flash.
Hmmm… at this stage of the draw no teams are easy. Having said that, Man U is favorite to reach the final.
Would Man U fans actually like Arsenal to win against Barca to get a potentially beatable opponent or would they prefer to meet Barca to exact revenge for last year’s final ?
@Ashish
How does form have no meaning in a final? Just because it isn’t a two-legged match does not mean that form doesn’t matter. A load of bollocks to say form means nothing, it actually means a lot. Carrick was playing with a broken toe last year, we didn’t have our engine in midfield… would you not say those things impacted the final? An injury, like one to Carrick, is part of a team’s form- as is Fletcher being suspended. You’d have to be mad to think that those two aspects of form had ‘no meaning.’
Additionally, Fletcher was wrongfully suspended for last year’s final, and every other player experienced United lose quite toothlessly. You don’t think that spurs them on for success this year? I disagree 100%. There have been countless references to “that night in Rome.” Just look at what Fletch said about the Liverpool matches. We ended up winning the title even though we lost to them twice and Fletch says it’s still fresh in their memories. If the players are hungry for revenge against the Scousers even though their victories meant nothing in the long run, you don’t think they would want to extract revenge on Barca?
Sanj- Spot on mate.
@willierednut
Arsenal’s brand of football is familiar to them. I just think that Barcelona in Europe are used to playing with teams in Europe that allow them to dictate the play. Arsenal will also want to dominate proceedings and it will be interesting to see Barca trying to get the ball off them. A lot could be decided on the midfield battle between Fabregas and Xavi.
The draw couldn’t of gone much better for us (well perhaps having cska on our side of the draw instead of munich, but distance wise a relatively short trip to germany compared to the longer one to russia does make munich perhaps the better option in terms of pre match preparation at least).
I’d like to think we wouldn’t have too much trouble with bayern, but i made a personal prediction at the being of the season that this would be the season of irony and so far that is looking like a good prediction (the 2 big(gest) spenders of european football out in the 1st KO of the cl, liverpool being given a run for their money / beaten by a large amount of the pl, including their own make of beach ball – need i say more?!) For that reason I have a horrible feeling that bayern could beat us and perhaps even go on and win the cl title for the following reasons:
> Bayern did beat us (abet on penalties) at the end of pre season (though it was practically a home match for them so perhaps not so worrying)
> The team who wins the cl often gets a somewhat fortunate result/ piece of luck at some point of their campaign (for example barca’s win over chelsea in the 2nd part of their SF last yr and our SF matches against barca 2 yrs back as well as that slip by JT) – you may not want to admit it but luck plays a huge part on who wins the cl and so far bayern has had a lot (scraping through in second place in the group completely down to juve being very lowsy this yr , ridding their luck to the max in both the matches against Fiorentina)
Hopefully the above just means that bayern has just used up all their luck for this campaign – but i do have a horrible feeling that they will pick up where they left off with Fiorentina and continue ridding their luck in our QF with us.
I got to say that even though i think that barca are likely to win against arsenal i would not be surprised if arsenal produce the knockout blow – i feel their is at least one more major shock in the cl this yr and as the big possible shocks left are utd being KO’ed by one of the french teams, CSKA KO’ing inter (and barca) and arsenal KO’ing barca I think that the barca/arsenal shock is the most likely one to happen.
my predictions for the final 2? – at the beginning of the season i had a feeling that it would be between chelsea and arsenal (or at least both teams would win a trophy this season, whether it be the carling, fa, pl or cl title) but as that can’t happen anymore then i can see 3 possible lineups for the final happening just on the irony factor:
utd vs barca (just because it’s so obvious, and it’s the total opposite (& nightmare) of what madrid have been boasting about for the previous 9+ months)
utd vs arsenal (it be kind of funny if we had an all english final the yr that the spanish league was meant to move miles ahead of the pl because they had all the ‘stars’ and the pl was meant to be in decline!)
inter vs bayern (the match up between the 2 teams including 2 dutch recently ex madrid players (who were sold off quickly and given little respect just because they didn’t fit in with the ‘galactico’ label but shouldn’t of really been sold off in the 1st place) who can basically take the opportunity to ‘flip the bird’ at their old employers on their own turf (there would also be some irony if inter KO’d barca in the SF considering the swap deal between eto’o + 49m euros in exchange for Ibrahimović)
The next few months should be fun then!
@PG
Doesn’t make a difference to me. The main thing is to reach the final. I can’t have a complaint about any opponent there. It’s not necessary that Arsenal will be an easier opponent just because of our recent good record against them.
sorry to go off topic
but this is my favourite thing ive done
i found this fantastic poem about Sir Matt Busby at the end
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfHocDrEbbc
@Fred
I hope it doesn’t, but in the end Fergie had to do what he had to do. De Laet seemed like a more reasonable choice, simple because he was fit and Hargo wasn’t anywhere near that. Once we started losing right backs again, I thought that De Laet might be useful as a back up. But then he picked up a serious injury. And just when I thought that we had plenty of choices at CM, Ando got seriously injured. The season has been fickle like that.
Besides, Hargo will need a while to get going again.
Costas – hargreaves may hardly get any playing time and I doubt fergie will play a player in critical games who has not played a real game since sep 2008
The only team i scare is Barcelona. It is hard to take them a ball, and when they have a ball, you get tired runing for the ball. Last final i was very very dissapointed. After first goal, we didint play any more. I hope this time we will do better.
i dont think that could have gone any better really, none of the other teams with a credible chance of winning and id rather have bayern than cska and having to do a tuesday game in russia followed by chelsea. I think really we have no excuse not to make it 3 consecutive finals and it will come down to who is better on the night between utd and barcelona
But…as we speak about Barcelona…if in Stuttgart was better, stronger team they would drink 4 goals, and 20 Messi s would help them in Nou Camp..
Robben is a fucking cunt who will bottle it again at the biggest stage. For fuck sake.
i wanted to sady that 20 Messi s wouldN T help them in Nou Camp…
I know it’s used a lot and all, and some of you find a bit cheesy, but
B E L I E V E
Madrid is booked. here we come.
great draw but bayern is not easy though.barca arsenal is great game barca favourite but arsenal can beat them.i don’t know why you guys so afraid of barcelona the only reason we lost the final is because we played 4-3-3 barcelona play is based on possession so a 4-5-1 is perfect to block their midfield. i see us in final but what would be painful is a secon final lost .i don’t even want to think about it.
BELIEVE.
I hope we don’t get any more injuries at all, and if we stay clear I believe that we would have a good chance to take all honours.
RedPhil – you better retract that statement because if you think united should book their tickets for madrid then you are an idiot no offence, because united have it really tough against bayern
Durhams of in one today, Fulham’s win last night was better than anything United have done in Europe according to him.
@willierednut
Did he now? Oh man. This is a message for kids: Don’t do drugs.
I am expecting King Eric to rant about it any moment now.
@willierednut
Don’t pay any attention to Durham! Talksport is contrived to get people to phone in and argue.
Hense why Durham always takes the controversial side of every argument.
Calls = Money!
Speaking of which, anyone red Paul Merson’s prediction for sunday on SkySports.com, ‘I think they have an unbelievable chance of going to Old Trafford and winning’… What the hell?
Costa- His rants about Talksport are the best lol.
@ Costas
totally agree with you mate if Hargreaves is going to recover its going to take him at least 3 weeks to play in the premier league again
hes obviously still tired alot from that massive injury anyway back to the topic What do you lot think as bayern munich Now?
They’re great but the media put us as favourites
I don’t understand how they made us favourites since bayern are on unbelievable form at the moment
and with less than 11 days to go you can’t say its impossible for them to lose it
we’ve got to get a really great result against them too
because if we dont we’ll have to play our big boys in germany and 2 days later we face chelsea
@theboogeyman
Is it the one he calls Talkshite? Yeah they are hillarious!
Oh dear big mistake on my post we go to germany for the 1st leg then 3/4 days later we face chelsea
then 4 days more we got the 2nd leg sorry
Some people here have very bad info >_>
Merson:
“If Liverpool can stop Manchester United winning the league, their fans won’t mind if they don’t win another game all season.”
Yes folks, that is the sad plight of Liverpool FC and its supporters.
@MIG
Yeah, I don’t think Hargo was going to be a factor until the semis anyway. I am expecting to see the old Hargo next year.
One correction mate. The Chelsea game is between the two Bayern games. We go to Bayern, 3 days later Chelsea come to OT and 4 days later Bayern come to OT. So we will have to play our best XI in the first two games.
@Costas
Merson’s right for once, thats Liverpoo season summed up, stop United winning the league.
Don’t know if anyone has already said this, but saf said Hargo will play 2 more reserve games before being considered for the first team.
I am pleased that we get the second tie at home. I hope we knock the germans out; they don’t deserve to still be in this competition. It would be a crime if we let them beat us; I am still sympathising with Fiorentina.
I can’t believe many are saying Arsenal will knock Barca out. Hello, this is Arsenal we are talking about. It’s astonishing to see how utterly shit they have become this season; bottled it against us and against the rentboys and have struggled against the likes of Hull and others. Even when they have their fully fit first team out they are still average. Barca will walk over them. Lucky bastards. I actually wish we got the gooners instead of Bayern, simply because they are the easiest team to exploit and beat. But that wouldn’t have made an enticing draw. Bring on Bayern!
@ willierednut
I did not know that, that is great news. If only he could play against his old team Bayern. He would help us beat them and will personally gain satisfaction; because of the fact that they sold him a crock to us and didn’t operate on him earlier, causing him to spend two years on the sidlines deprived of football.
Bastards; hate the lot of them.
Costa- Yeah Talkshite. Those rants are really funny.
King Eric- Don’t take offence mate, we’re just joking.
Hargo’s aim should be to be playing regularly by next season.
“if we win a 19th title we’ll just try and win a 20th” – Sir Alex Ferguson
thats why united make history and dont just live on it
GHTT- Hello there.
That’s an amazing and true quote. The scousers can take something from it.
Can you link me to that quote?
I hope that quote from Fergie means he will be here for at least another 2 years to win us the 20th.
As for Sunday i think there will be a few surprises in the team.I think rafael will play at right back and carrick wont start the game.park will be given the role of keeping stevie me quiet after his brilliant performance against Andrea Pirlo and Fletch will be used as a box to box midfielder so that he can get forward too. That will also help us to play both valencia and nani.Both offer more than park going forward so we must be positive and play both of them
VDS
rafael
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra
Valencia
Fletch
Scholes
park
nani
rooney
Thats the team i would love to see.
Prediction 2-1 to united.
@aig
I think someone said scholesy is being rested for Sunday.
Costas – mersons comments that liverpool can beat united 4 1 is hilerious, and his coments are like liverpool are world beaters, the only reason he is downing united is because united have lost ronaldo simple has that
@willierednut
are you sure?. he has had a weeks rest and i dont think we play anyone in midweek next week so no point resting him. he has been excellent last few months. rolling back the years with his dominating displays
Fairly tough draw, but a very promising semi. Barca has 2 of the top wingers in the world. Evra should do just fine against Ribery or Robben… It’s our poor naive or paceless rightback that I am worried about.
Arsenal Barca could be good. Barca’s style is free and open and if Arsenal has the balls to take them on head on, I think it could be a very competitive game. I would still wonder where Arsenal is going to get the goals, because Messi is going to do some damage to that Gooner backline.
Inter is going to have a very tough semi.
I’d say we’re favorites to go to the finals, even if Bayern is a tough team to play.
@aig
I thought someone posted that he’s being rested, maybe i’m wrong.
The Scholes thing is interesting. I haven’t heard anything about it yet. Here’s my lineup for Sunday:
VDS – Rafael, Rio, Vida, Evra – Valencia, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Park – Rooney.
But I am sure that Fergie will have a surprise or two up his sleeve with Nani or Berba possibly getting the nod.
Scoreline: 1-1
Don’t shoot the messenger! I am not sure that their voodoo over us is over just yet. Hope I am wrong.
@willierednut
ok mate .but i cant see that happening
LOL @ Aig being positive
About this weekend i think it will be hard for us, Benethus will definitely have Macherano and lucas as defensive mid and sit back while letting us come onto them. They will try give the ball to Gerrard, and hit us for counter attack. This match will be a tough one. A good team playing defensively with a pacy stiker can work well against us, I think Park should be man marking Lucas or masch while fletch on Gerrard, this will make our ginger prince to Fuck liverpool up.
Valencia will be our point of penetration I think,
Valencia park and fletch will be key.
I remember they knocked us out in 2000, that still hurts. I’m kinda ok with the draw, they will be no pushover, but I think we can handle them if we play well.
I think it is good that Hargo was not registered for CL, which means if he got back to great fitness in April and ready to play – then he can be used in important league matches. Word I hear is that he played like he was never injured for the reserves.
SURELY Scholesy will be playing. He has a decent record against the vermin. I do think though like aig says Park will be the man to keep Stevie Me quiet which shouldn’t be too difficult at present. Hell I am 35 haven’t kicked a ball for 20 years and a smoker and I think I could keep him quiet on current form. Really really excited about this game.
willirednut and Costas – Yeah I heard Durham saying it was the greatest achievement by an English club. I am not annoyed though as I think I know what he is trying to say. That Fulham are a little club with not much experience, an average squad and NOBODY expected them to get this far. Fair play to them and Hodgson I say.
Bet you are surprised at my response having expected a rant. I ranted enough the other night to last me a month.
…………..However I DID hear Goughy say that the “2 best footballing teams in the World are playing each other”. Again not gonna get too irate as I expected nothing more. Of course Arsenal are the best I have to admit. Just look at all their trophies the last 5 years compared to our frankly paltry haul!!
@King Eric
I have the utmost respect for Fulham’s achievement. I have known Hodgson since he took the Swiss to the World Cup in 94 and I like him as a manager. However, I don’t think that this is the biggest achievement by an English side, taking into consideration the budget. For one thing, Juventus this season have been shocking. Really attrocious. Secondly, I would say that McClaren’s Middlesbrough reaching the final of the Uefa Cup surpasses that. If Fulham accomplish the same, then I would agree with Durham.
And I know that many people won’t like this, but I have to admit that the dippers winning the 04-05 C.L. was a big achievement. Especially if you look at the roster of that team: Biscan, Smicer, Haman, Dudek and Milan Baros among others!
I am happy enough with the draw, bayern are a good team but United have the beating of them.
I was listening to talksport and the way the french jurno was speaking about barcelona is like barca had so many problems they were doomed, has he seen arsenals flaws, I would not have hope in arsenal if they have campbell at the back song and denelson in midfield up against alves messi xavi and iniesta, because arsenal have been just has poor. I think he is contridicting himself when the way arsenal have performed against the big teams.
oh yeah fuck merson , durham and the darren gough, the wankers
I agree with ChoasRed
@RTNK
I heard that mate, he said Arsenal are on the same level as Barca i find that laughable.
rtnk – Yeah heard that twat as well mate. Said we are weak in the middle . What the fuck? Has he seen Fletcher, Scholes and Carrick’s performance the last 3 months? Fucking hate the way they are billing Barca and Arsenal as the best game in years. As denton said the other day it will be tippy tappy passy shite. At least Barca have a cutting edge.
boogeyman – Hi mate. No I didn’t take offence in the slightest. I quite like the fact you enjoy my rant’s.
gotta hate – hello pal. Is that what Fergie has said about going for 20 if we get 19? Fucking quality. Looks like he may be around a bit longer then.
Let them praise Barca & Arsenal to the heavens, we will just quietly do our business and get on with winning
Costas – Yeah I agree mate the Boro result was better than last night’s result.
willierednut – every team has flaws, christ uniteds flaws is the replacement for VDS, the physical condition of the defence the long term decisions of the CM because of scholes age and hargreaves andersons long term injurys, so decisions need to be made of what do we do of the CM and the depth of strikers, its not a huge problem but flaws that need ironing out that are easily fixable unlike teams like chelsea.
but onto the arsenal barca thing, there is no way arsenal are in barcas league , because their GK and defence are there for the taken and arsenal are only in the title race because united have had to adjust their system and find a new identity because of ronaldo and tevez. add the injurys in goal and defence so arsenal are in the title race by default and it will be a joke if they win it because they are not that good
NICE!!!
barca we have a dream.yees wi keen.so good help as aas’
