Just a few weeks after joining the Manchester United squad, Louis van Gaal sent Javier Hernandez out on loan to Real Madrid.
Hernandez scored a few goals for the Spanish club but was hardly played, meaning he voiced his frustration on several occasions.
Chicharito has returned to United now and despite rumours suggesting he will be sold, Van Gaal has confirmed that the striker is staying put, but will be behind Wayne Rooney in pecking order.
Our aim is to play with Rooney in the striker’s position. We have chosen him and Chicharito will be the substitute, but Rooney can also play in the no.10 position, so Chicharito has a chance to play in the striker’s position. Normally, though, Rooney will play because we have the confidence that he will score more than 20 goals there, which is more than the strikers did last year.
