When the Manchester City players arrived at the Etihad earlier today, ahead of the derby against Manchester United, Nicolas Otamendi was missing.

Vincent Kompany had already been ruled out for the game and Otamendi was a doubt, although it had looked like he would recover from his dead leg in time.

“We’ll see tomorrow,” Manuel Pellegrini said. “Nico is running but it is a risk if he takes another kick in the same leg.”

City are now set to start the game with the £70 million pairing of Mangala and Demichelis in the centre of defence.
