Cole: If Things Go Well United Will Win

Andrew Cole, who spent eight seasons at United, has today revealed who he hopes to win the Manchester derby.

He spent a season at City and was their top scorer. He signed a new contract with them but then left the club for Portsmouth on transfer deadline day.

Cole still has a season ticket with United and is hoping we right the wrongs of the unjust 2-1 defeat last week.

“I look at this game just like a European game,” Cole told Goal.com. “United have gone away from home and lost a game they shouldn’t have lost. But they are only 2-1 down and that is not such a bad result. If things work out well – and everyone knows it’s going to be a very tough game – United will get the result. It will be a great match – I’m really looking forward to it.”

    “IF Things go well”. hmmm

  2. ajopaul says:

The only following things should go well.

Ref shouldn’t give a undeserving penalty.
Linesmen shouldn’t disallow our deserving goals to offside.
Ref should not ruthlessly send off one of our players.

Rest Rooney and Co. will take care am sure.

  3. Costas says:

    Goal king Cole!

By the way, Rooney has a goal per games ratio similar to Cole. Rooney has 117 in 266 and Cole had 121 in 269.

  4. azeim29 says:

    Fancy a repeat of ROMA..Thrashing them 7-1..

after going down 2-1 in the first leg..

    come on united!

  5. Costas says:

  6. mancstan says:

As long as the ref doesnt fuck up, I think we should be ok.

  7. trevor says:

He never was the brightest spark now was he!… erm!

Does he also say if we score 2 goals and they score none we go though?

    please guys

7-1, 7-0,9-0 as someone said last week. Its not gonna happen. This is not a game against some pub team but a derby against a much improved and resilient city side with a lot at stake.Such games(7-1 hammering of Roma) come once in 2-3 years and the way we have played and nearly self destructed in big games this season such a win is not gonna happen.

Any win that takes us through is good enough. 1-0 would be a bit worrying as we have to play 30 extra minutes ahead of the big game on Sunday

@azeem21…wish something lyk dat will happen again.wish them best.cole is truely red.what a legent.

  10. RED SAM says:

    @ costas
absolutely mate but only if we have a cantona and a kanchelskis out there.

  11. alinaabbamancesterutd says:

Sorry for spelling yr name uncorrectly azeim29.

  12. Costas says:

    @RED SAM

It was more of wishful thinking I guess. The other problem, is that tonight we won’t have the defensive stability that that United team had.

As AIG says, hopefully we will do enough to see this through after 90 minutes. Extra time would be ill advised.

  13. RED SAM says:

Whats this shit in the mail about ando leaving for lyon ? Seriously he cant sink so low to even consider playing in “that” league.

  14. mattythered says:

yeah lets hope the ref doesnt give the blue nose twats a helping hand,i also hope he starts wes brown to empty that scare face twat from argentina..hope the team get up for this 2nite as all the fans are..i think its fair to say the players have been slightly above pish this season..we need new players or a new midfield, watever is cheaper..come on united…

  15. RED SAM says:

my line up for tonight would be…..

    vds

    brown evans rio evra

    valencia fletcher carrick

    berbatov

    rooney owen

  16. Androo says:

    @RED SAM

Play all three strikers in one match? With Arsenal right around the corner??? Are you bonkers?

  17. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

The last time we list an away first leg,I believe, was against Roma. Is there away goal rule in play. As a 1 nil will win it for united. I’ve to head out and get emily from school but would anyone have an anti city chant Emily could do for the game. There favourite one

  18. aig alex is god says:

    ghtt

We lost against 1-0 Derby County in the Carling Cup Semis last year before beating them 4-2 at Old Trafford. Away goals count but after 120 mins and not 90 minutes. If it is 1-0 to us we will have to play another 30 mins.

  19. RED SAM says:

    @ androo

am i bonkers ?? yes i think i am…i bet you are one of those that are satisfied with playing rooney upfront alone ain’t you ?? this is a one match that we are required to use all our firepower we got and playing with 3 forwards in seen insane ?
am not the only one that has entertained the idea of playing berba behind the strikers considering his ability to create for others or am i ??

there is no point of playing a weak side against shitty so as to preserve others for arsenal. this is OUR CHANCE to stop them winning a trophy this season or do you think aston villa will ??

now i think you are the one who is bonkers :)

  20. Big Bad Wesley Brown says:

Garry Cook will not be amused:

From the BBC: Santos midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso has said he is not keen on joining Manchester City as part of the deal that could take Robinho back to the Brazilian club. The 20-year-old said: “I don’t want to play for Manchester City. I’d prefer to play for a big club in Europe such as Milan, Real Madrid or Barcelona.” :-D

  21. King Eric says:

mattthered – You said the same yesterday. Why do we need a “new midfield”. We don’t. We have Scholes, Ando?, Carrick, Fletch, Giggs, Valencia, Nani, Gibson. Not to mention the lads coming through the ranks and Cleverley on loan. There is fuck all wrong with the mid field.

Costas – Interesting stat about Cole and Rooney mate. Rooney is a lot more prolific than people credit him for.

  22. Androo says:

    @RED SAM

Didn’t mean to sound disrespectful to you at all if that’s how my message sounded!

And no mate I’m not one of the supports of the 4-5-1 formation and I doubt there are any. If you want to play with three forwards at least don’t play our main three. Rooney and Diouf up front with Berba right behind would be also quite good. Diouf won’t start against Arsenal (unless Rooney, Owen AND Berba are injured – God forbid).

  23. Jandsdad says:

    @ Big Bad Wesley Brown

that quote from Ganso is pure quality

This is how it feels to be citeh
This is how it feels to be small

no player with any self respect wants to play for those small time fuckers down the road.

  24. chimshira says:

we dont need a new midfield! we need more consistent play from our defensive now that the injured players are starting to come back….

  25. ste the heywood red says:

Its up to uniteds other players not just rooney to come to the party tonite .Berba come on mate this cud be the nite to set things alight {no poetry intended there fellas.} come on UNITED!

  26. rooney the new king says:

RED SAM – well you are mad, its about balance in a team not trying to fit square pegs in round holes, 2 of 3 will play not all 3.

for me I hope fergie plays nani on RW again he is deadly from that position and his crossing maybe needed tonight because shitty all over the place on set plays.

  27. Scarfo says:

This could well turn out to be another classic – I can see United coming tearing out the blocks, and I can’t see City lying down either. I’m looking massively forward. Hopefully the girlfriend won’t watch to watch Corrie or something.
