I would like to get Valencia, Juve and Dortmund..

IMO we were in a lot tougher groups in 99 and 08 than in 06 and 12.

    1999; Bayern, Barcelona, Bröndby
    2008; Roma, Sporting, Dinamo Kiev

    2006; Villareal, Benfica, Lille
    2012; Benfica, Basel, Oțelul Galați

  7. The Scottish Wonder says:

Its funny that the champions of the four highest ranking league in Europe could end up in a same group; Real, City, Juve and Dortmund

And the champions of the leagues ranked from 5-8 could also be in the same group; Porto, Shaktar, Ajax and Montpellier

  8. samuel - united WE stand says:

Zizou’s goal vs bayern leverkusen.. look at that and marvel at a technical master at work. Ronaldo vs porto.. unbelievable strike, pile-driving screamer from 40yards, ron at his best.

i also remember daniele de rossi scoring one brilliant strike against united after we battered them 7-1 in the 2nd leg.

  9. Atin says:

    Paul Scholes, He scores Goals!

  10. samuel - united WE stand says:

But maybe just maybe this Ronaldinho strike against chelsea at stamford bridge beats all. in a crucial game, losing 3nil, he Made terry and his defence look like clowns as They stood there admiring his skills, dances samba style on the edge of the box and bends it into the top corner. Fantastic, one of many reasons i prefer ronaldinho over messi.

Iniesta’s strike to break the blue cunts hearts, boom one touch into the top corner, although essien’s strike probably beats that. Many more that i can’t name off my head.

  11. Atin says:

In my opinion it was this goal which led to our victory that year. Something unbelievable required and something unbelievable it was!

    CHeers!

  12. samuel - united WE stand says:

We did defend for our football lives in that Barca game, the spaniards threw every kitchen sink at us but wesley brown had probably his best game as he shifted to centre half.

It seems the key to winning the champions league is to beat barcelona on the way to the final and my goodness do you require fortune and the ref having an off day from licking their asses, they’re always an obstacle. If not, we’d be celebrating addition to our champions league triumphs. Bastards.

  13. jeet says:

Sorry, but with red glasses firmly on, I have to say it was “And Solskjaer has won it!!!”

  14. jeet says:

Or “Paul SCHHOLESS!!! WHAT about that!!!”

  15. United Till I Die says:

So many European goals to choose from but only one absolutely had it all.

Class, Defiance, Vindication, and Glory, in that order.

    Take a bow Paul Scholes.

@Atin – Fully agree with your choice mate! I hadn’t seen that particular footage of the goal before, Its actually a top bit of video. Cheers.

As far as Fiorentina Viola are concerned I couldnt give a rats arse if Berba got a free flight out of them and never showed up. What goes around comes around. Fiorentina and Juventus are scum bag clubs who cheat there way through their scabby arse excistances. Berba screws with them, kudos Berba.

About Andy Grays article. Not totally down to Gray but why does he seem to believe like others that Rooney and the boss have had a falling out. They have a proffesional relationship not a fucking marriage. Rooney isnt expected to be a yes man nor is he supposed to be the go to man for advice on tactics and team selection. He is a player and he follows instructions, when he talks to the boss its amicable as it should be but it isnt “daddy daddy tell me about the time you won the league with Aberdeen” only to see Rooney curled up on uncle Alexs knee. So where does this falling out come from. Why do fans and reporters seem to believe that there is some familly like atmosphere where everyone sits round the same table for dinner like that old scouse sitcom Bread.
Another thing, why is anyone using the excuse that Rooney is tired from the Euros – he hardly played. one and a half matches all summer and hes fucked? That cant come into any excuse or otherwise Giggs and Cleverley amongst others would be just as fucked.
Another thing. Why do people believe that Rooney was benched because of “one bad game”. He wasnt benched because of a mediocre performance against Everton, he was benched because of half a year of stale play where he became the focal point but didnt know what to do that was special with the ball when he got it. He was playing like Darren Bent trying to be Cantona but thought better of it mid stream ending up being Darren Bent. Sure goals would come here and there, I think I could score for United with the talent around me even if it was people shooting at me trying to get a lucky deflection. Rooney needs time to realise that being a superstar footballer craves staying late at the training ground. Cantona wasnt who he was by going home and playing x-fucking-box. Beckhams free kicks werent brilliant because of Twitter or Pepsi and Ronaldo wasnt the player he was by selling aftershave and appearing on magazine covers. Shape up Rooney and I dont mean fitness or your bulk – I think you are fine as you are, even smoke the odd ciggie, I kind of like the rebelious image – I mean shape up your bloody mind and get back to WORK.

  17. goatinaunitedshirt says:

I thought StR wrote NON United match for youtube links to win Platinis box of goals.

I dont watch NON United matches anymore as I just dont have the time. so guess I wont be entering. But Ill guess the winner is Messi – yyyyyaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnn

  18. kanchelskis says:

    @Fletch

I’ve enjoyed very few Utd goals as much as I enjoyed that one. The perfect counter-attack. The best XI players in world football, all in their prime, couldn’t have defended against a counter that clinical.

It’s Park’s first touch after 4 secs that makes it. He reads the two players pushing forwards towards him and just punts it 10 yards in front of him to completely take them out of the game. Simple and devastating. Park’s intelligence on the counter was (is) a hugely under-rated part of his game. We will miss that in Europe. Let’s hope Young and Nani can stop slowing counters down and making the wrong decision respectively. Kagawa will help to fill this particular void I think.

Peter Bolton ‏says Angelo Henriquez was at the game last night and mentioned he might be interested in the #21 shirt.

Can’t recall exactly, but I thought manutd.com posted that he would get the #32. When do the official numbers have to be registered with the EPL?

  22. The Scottish Wonder says:

    ’05 sorry

  23. FletchTHEMAN says:

kanchelskis Cheers mate. I love the team goals as well. The ones that just refuse to be encapsulated in some idiotic one shot wonder that TV loves. That team was devastating on the counter, will we see it again? Game is changing that’s a fact.

  24. kanchelskis says:

    @Fletch

I think we should get someone in the 32 ASAP. Help us to forget that hideous little troll wearing it.

ronaldo’s built header v roma bang:-)

  28. kanchelskis says:

    @Fletch

Having said Kagawa will be important on the counter, and dissing Young and Nani, I was of course forgetting Tony V, who is devastating on the counter, and as a general out-ball in those games where we’re likely to be pushed back from the midfield.

As the season goes on, I expect wingers and forwards (our positions of abundance) to be rotated according to circumstance.

Though, that said, Fergie said excessive rotation was to blame for our European failures last season. Though I think that was excuse-hunting more than anything. With the squad we have, we can’t not rotate. Especially with away games following 5 of our 6 CL group games.

I expect, when we get Rooney back, that we may actually see RVP rested from CL starting lineups in the group stage. At 29 he won’t be expected to play constantly, and I think Welbeck and Hernandez should be expected to step up and get us goals in Europe, especially with the quality supply they’ll be receiving.

  29. Busby babes says:

    sorry bullet header lol

This goal gives me goosebumps, never have and am never likely to see a front two combination goal like that again. As the commentator says it’s out of this world, two incredibly gifted strikers at the peak of their power tearing Europe’s best apart. Goal King Cole!

  33. wayne says:

For me it was the 99 winner not in terms of a great goal but in terms of drama and what it meant(the treble)
Never forget that game,I was in Reno a mate and fellow Red had flown in from England apart from everything else we’d thrown $500 on the game we both went fucking mental in a packed sports book, later the manager came and told us two English lads doing the funky chicken on security cameras was one of the funniest things he’d seen

Cbf putting a link, and i’ll probably just buy the dvd but zidanes volley in the final at OT in 03 i think it was, classis.
Best utd goal id say the cole-yorke 1-2 v barca in group stage 99

Berba having his medical,Jol pulling off value deal of the summer,Berba has a good 4yrs left and imo is still world class
Some of the muppets been sold for 10-15 mill,Berba is a steal, good luck to him

  40. Ash says:

    wayne

spot on about berba’s value. We are selling him for too cheap. He is 31 and has 3-4 years of good football left in him. 5 MILLION is nothing in todays time. 8-10 MILLIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FAIR AND REASONABLE IMO.

  41. Zibbie says:

So the CL draw is today. Cool.

  42. kanchelskis says:

    @Ash

We can’t just arbitrarily set a price that nobody’s going to pay.

For whatever reason, there is just no real competition – from top clubs anyway – for his signature. If there was, we could command a fee of at least £10m, given his quality.

It’s got to the stage now where we just have to unload him, for his own sake if nothing else. If that means accepting the highest bid going – even if it is £5m – we have to accept that.

The cold truth is Fergie has mismanaged Berbatov, and that goes a long way to explaining why he’s leaving for so little.

  43. FletchTHEMAN says:

Fergie promised Berbatov that he wouldn’t stand in his way if clubs came in at the mininmum valuation.
This was set around 4M months ago. Stop making it out as if this is somehow a disgrace.

It also reflects Fergies respect for the player who the club bought at 28yo with every intention that the resale would be minimal at end of contract at 32.

Fergie has said he would be very happy to keep Berbatov. The recent injury to Wayne only underscores why. Fergie has no problem keeping an experienced older striker on the bench as we have seen with a string of them since 1998.

I need to say thanks for Berba, and let you guys have your say.
I’am lost on most views? wow I drank the Berba cool-ade when he signed. Then time passed. A miss, not a good fit, to bash SAF is beyond me.

  48. Stenis says:

(It has to be non-United, right?) Many great United-goals to choose from as well. Yorke and Cole vs barca, Keane vs Juventus, Solskjaer, Scholes, Ronaldo x2. The list goes on…

  49. Zibbie says:

I see a chance to get to London for the CL final.
Rooney’s injury gives more minutes to all attacking players. In turn time to develop in the RVP era.

  50. Zibbie says:

  51. zhukov43 says:

    Wayne you still around?

The squad is strong. With Evans coming back, move Carrick back to CF and RVP and Kagawa. wow.

I always saw Rooney moving to MF, but I never played the game. His close control and touch? In the 4-2-3-1 the CAM of the 2???

  53. kanchelskis says:

  60. Zibbie says:

    Both!!

I am in love with Rafa. He is a Tiger, runs all day. Plays well with others. 5 years from now and the 2 best summer signings might have been, Rafa and Welbeck. No 4 great signings !!!!!!!!

  61. kanchelskis says:

    @Zibbie

I’m loving Rafael too. For me, though, still question marks over his defending at the highest level. I still get a feeling that when Chrissy Smalls is back he’ll be preferred in games where we need to be watertight at the back, or against tall teams.

  62. Zibbie says:

Rafa is young, with Rio at his back helps. And with Tony V running back as well.

I see in 2, 3 years it will be

Rafa, Smallings, Evans/Vida, LB… Fabio, Butt Brady, someone.Evans a big LB?

  70. All We Need Is Shinji Kagawa says:

    something different;

    http://youtu.be/cwaxS5_9z9I

  71. kanchelskis says:

Read something earlier on the BBC website that made a v good point.

City’s main targets this summer were RvP, Hazard, Martinez and De Rossi.

    They’ve got none of them.

This is in spite of being Champions, playing CL football, and offering mega wages.

It may be a stretch to say all these players kept away for reasons of any great nobility (the first 3 will be earning plenty and playing CL footy at their new clubs – only De Rossi is inherently v loyal to Roma), but at least this summer of frustration for them seems to show that they can’t just dominate the transfer market at their whim.

I still think, 2 x trophies aside, they haven’t tipped the balance yet to becoming a ‘powerhouse’ club. Miss out on silverware this season and some of their players may just start getting restless. Add to that no youth development to speak of and a squad which, although packed with quality, is not as big as Chelsea’s or United’s, and you never know, this project might just be a little more short lived than some imagined.

Or am I being hopelessly optimistic?

  72. Zibbie says:

I saw the game yesterday, Tunni is a good player. Evans a steady 90 minutes Butt looked stronger as the game went on. Fletch being inhuman looked good. Keane and Wootton looked fine with Butt and Evans. Lindy wants 1st team.

  73. Zibbie says:

    And Powell is a stud.

  74. fergie is the boss says:

samuel – united WE stand – in a way yes, but united never had those hassling players that could perhaps stay organised, and hassle Barcelona. Plus in a final, different ball game, I doubt chelsea could beat barca in a one off final, and against bayern they had more luck than the 1999 united side, who were missing keane and scholes in that final

  77. Zibbie says:

parry I know , just saying.

K, yes and no, good observation. City went after every player in the last 4 years, got a lot, most just good, just a few real good. Kompany, Hart, Yaya and Silva , Balletelli ?? big risk, great talent. Man Utd rule the NW. They are strong never to be a Real, or MUFC.

FFP will have teeth if clubs can not play CL football.

One way or another, by 2017 MUFC debt free and with 150, million turn over!!!

  82. kanchelskis says:

    @Redriderch

Celtic? No thanks. Exactly the kind of cunts who’ll play out of their skins to beat an English club. Add to that the fact they’ve basically got a bye to the league title this year (and for the next few years) and they’ll be able turn out an entirely fresh team of their ‘best’ players for both legs. Could well see them frustrating us the way Rangers did a couple of years ago. God, those were awful matches. The Tony V injury as well. Horrible times. (not that the injury was anyone’s fault)

What most people dont understand is that Sir Alex has always helped players ply their trade elsewhere by not demanding astronomical transfer fees.He realises that once a player is no longer in his plans, best thing is help them join another. You all complaining that Berb has been sold for a paltry fee need to take this into account. However those who whinge in public cue kusczak always learn it the hard way

  97. Reds Galore says:

Lady luck has shone upon us lads. Not that we cant beat Madrid but its just one of the tough teams you want to avoid.

  98. DreadedRed says:

I won ” The 500 Great Goals Collection” in a RoM competition held in April this year.

Thanks Scott the Red, and my fellow entrants. Luv ya!

The compilation is excellent. 5 dvds, each about an hour long. Goals from every League, and interviews from greats such as Sir Bobby on George Best and Alfredo Di Stefano. A tremendous selection of goals, all the famous ones, and many which I had not seen as they occurred in a lower league.

As I live on a dusty road in Africa, I think the postage might have cost Scott a lot more than expected, but they duly arrived. I was pleased as punch, and still am!

ps If you want to borrow them, I’ll post them to you; on the condition that you do the same.

  99. fergie is the boss says:

Please forgive my blasphemy, but if I have to choose my favorite Champions League goal other than one scored by MUFC, then I submit the following (the first goal scored in this clip), because of its significance to the match, and for what transpired thereafter…

Again, please accept my deepest apologies…
