Competition: Win a Savile Rogue scarf in United colours

Savile Rogue, purveyors of the world’s finest football scarves, have just launched their new King scarf and they’re marking the occasion by giving Republik of Mancunia readers the chance to win one in United colours.

If you’re not familiar with them, Savile Rogue scarves give a nod to football terraces of yesteryear, shunning in-your-face logos and cheap nylon in favour of a traditional bar design and the comfort, quality and warmth of top grade cashmere wool.

The King scarf is the longest Savile Rogue yet. At 180cm, it’s perfect for tying a stylish European loop (and equally perfect if you happen to have a particularly big neck!).

They sell for £64.95, but you can get your hands on a Manchester United scarf by posting a YouTube clip to your favourite Dimitar Berbatov moment in the comments section below. You must ensure that you are posting comments from a valid e-mail address as this is how the winner will be contacted.

You can follow Savile Rogue on Twitter or Facebook

I’ve got one of those. They’re classy, and bloody comfy.

Not the ‘King Scarf’ obviously, but one of the smaller models.

As far as I’m concerned, I love Berbatov, and I do miss him. I wish we could have treated him better. All the best to you Dimitar; you class will not be soon forgotten by this Manchester United fan!

Brilliant goal, great pass and great finish. Classic Berbagod, sad to see him go. Plus his first goal for us.

  16. DreadedRed says:

redbilly – wonderful skill vs West Ham, absolutely loved it! I’ve watched it a 100 times, or more!

Also love the outrageous skill at 1:44 vs Everton, where Dimi is knocked out of play right on the corner flag, yet retains control AND passes the ball while flat on his back!

  17. goatinaunitedshirt says:

Im better than you, na na na na do do dip your head in poo poo.
Im a goat Im covered in the stuff, putting on a cashmere scarf would just make me static.

    Anyway
£65 for a fucking scarf are you wise. My neck isnt so baby bum soft that I need to pamper it like a poofs taint. Ill stick with my crown of thorns and a womans legs as a scarf. You silly fuckers out in the cold, cashmere scarf and manbag on your way to meet Derek the art gallery owner – fucking mancs, lol, your as hard as the modern viking.

  18. redbilly says:

this by far has to be the best moment. The day/night that Berba signed! i will never forget the excitement i was filled with that day the whole way in panned out with citeh trying to hijack the deal. Then he chose us the fans outside OT singing his name everything about that deadline day was unreal.

Berba was a wonder player an absolute unsung footballing genius.

  24. DreadedRed says:

  26. kanchelskis says:

Jesus Christ – Ollie Holt from the Mirror is spouting some grade-A shite on Twitter. Supporting Robbie Fowler’s mental suggestion that Evra and Suarez should lay wreaths together before kickoff – Evra one for Hillsborough and Suarez one for Munich.

The gesture itself may make sense if it was between the club captains, but the idea it should be Evra and Suarez doing it is fucking insane. Up until a couple of months ago, Suarez was STILL protesting his innocence and painting Evra as the perpertrator. Evra has shown no sign of wanting to drag this out any further and quite rightly wants to put it all behind him. And clowns like Robbie Fowler and Ollie Holt want to see him forced into holding hands and carrying flowers around with the person who’s racially abused him and has no remorse …

… do me a fucking favour.

No. Neither will Denis Law (who joined City and sent United down), Peter Schmeichel (who joined City), Ronaldo (who said we enslaved him), David Beckham (who fell out with SAF and chased the glamour). Do you hold the same attitude towards that lot? Thought not.

SAF’s presser – Key points ex TAOT:

    Team news:
“Everyone who played on Wednesday is available. I know there were reports on Wayne Rooney being available but that’s not the case, though he’s not far away. He could be back next week. Ashley Young has a bruised cartilage – he’ll be okay in two to three weeks.”

    On Darren Fletcher:
“He made a start on Wednesday. He won’t start on Sunday but he’ll play against Newcastle – that’s the perfect game for him to start. Then we have Spurs and he may be involved in that.”

    On Sunday’s game:
“We’ve given a lot of messages from Manchester United. It’s an important game for both clubs. It’s possible everything around the game could affect the players and the game, but hopefully we can concentrate on a good match. We want to try and achieve a good performance and result.”

    On Brendan Rogers:
“He is a young manager and any young manager needs time. In the modern world you don’t get that. The only route for any manager is success. It’s a results industry. There was less pressure when I started, but the world has changed, the press has changed.”

  53. Zibbie says:

You believe our own hype, say things often enough lies become truth!!!!!!! He slammed SAF the fuck head did.
If he is so fucking good why did no one come after him? He is a great box striker, good in the 90′s not in todays game.
HAVE A FUN CIRCLE JERK!!!!!!! HAVE A TOWEL HANDY FOR YOUR JIS.

“He made a start on Wednesday which was great. He won’t start on Sunday but he’ll certainly play against Newcastle. I think that’s a perfect game for him to start back. Then we have the game against Tottenham next Saturday and he possibly could be involved in that, but it depends how he does on Wednesday.”

“It’ll be his first full 90 minutes after 10 months out so it’ll be a big night for him. He’s handling the conditions at the moment and he looks fine as we saw the other night. It’s a matter of hoping the condition stays dormant. He’s handling his diet well and doing all the right things so hopefully he gets that break he needs.”

  61. DreadedRed says:

    Unedited SAF on Youngex presser:

“Ashley Young has got a bruised cartilage – I think it’s going to take two or three weeks more. We’re just taking our time with that one. You can easily play with it and train but we’re not going down that road, we want to make sure he’s okay.”

“We get a lot of experiences these days of these injuries reoccurring when they come back too quickly and we don’t want that with the players – we want to give them a full recovery. He should be okay with two or three weeks’ time.”

  64. FletchTHEMAN says:

Rooney and Young working way back, Fletcher available for Newcastle. Great news.

Question, I thought Fletcher wasn’t available for EPL games because not named to the 24 man roster.
So is the League cup not restricted by that list as well? Or can we add Fletcher at any time because of his home grown status?

  65. Costas says:

    @Fletch

I believe Darren is eligible for every domestic competition because he’s a homegrown player? That’s the impression I had.

  66. FletchTHEMAN says:

Strike that, Fletcher is on the EPL list. When did that happen?!

  67. FletchTHEMAN says:

Costas. Cheers. Think we were both thinking the same. But with Darren on the EPL list the issue is moot.

  68. Diego says:

Young’s injury record certainly is an enigma… Gone for several weeks and the return date just keeps getting postponed. I can’t even remember when he got injured.

  69. kanchelskis says:

    @Fletch

As Costas says, as Fletch is homegrown, he can be added to or removed from the full squad for domestic competitions at any time.

  70. Costas says:

Either way I can’t wait for that Newcastle game. Fletch hasn’t started a game since the Benfica one 10 months ago.

    @Diego

He played against Fulham on Aug 25 but didn’t feature at Southampton on Sep 2. So he got the injury during that time period. I don’t think it was during he Fulham game. He was moving freely during that one. Something happened during that week. And Fergie was very upset when the FA revealed the injury. Weird stuff..

  71. kanchelskis says:

    @Costas/Diego

Can only assume it was a training injury … maybe judging from Fergie’s awkwardness about it, it was one of those really silly ones, like Bebe going in too hard on him, or him slipping on a water bottle, or the metal freekick wall falling on his leg… Who knows?!

Still the lad is on 197 league games (303 total) and could press on and get this 200th league game if he continues to progress. Fingerers crossed as they say.

Darren Fletcher, Football genius! Hope he rewards Sir Alex for his confidence!

This is my favourite Berba moment, because it is the only time I have been able to see United play live. They came to play Celtic in a friendly in Toronto a few years back.

  75. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

Zibbie – You are nutter for certain :P

Berba was our best striker in 2010-11 when Rooney fucked up lest you forget. Chicharito aswell deserves credit. Without Berba more notably inbetween August to February scoring 19 goals in that time space if my memory serves me right we would not have won the league. Where was your precious Rooney Zibbie during Aug to Jan. I remember Rooney scored only like 3 inbetween that time while Berba as we know was in double figures with Chicha.

Sorry to be rude mate, but your reaction to Berba is disrespectful. Most United fans that don’t like Berba still appreciate his loyalty, his class, his humble demeanour. He’s a real red who fought to be our player and fought for a chance…bloody hell he only scored 9 last year in 21 appearances a better average than the other strikers apart from Wazza. Also did you not notice how he changed his game to improve for Manchester United? His work rate doubled, he tracked back, defended and also dropped to defence when we was short.

C’mon mate, he never disrespected Fergie, nothing of the sort, if anything SAF proved to be brute-fully ruthless once again by disposing of Berba slowly and painfully until Berba had enough of the unfair treatment and headed out. Hell Berba was never even told to leave ! £10m bids was rejected in 2011 for the man and then he was sold for £5. Obviously it wasn’t a financial decision …the manager wanted Berba to rot in the stand as a back up just in case the youngsters fail to impress.

“I know he’s the boss, but he has lost, to some extent, my respect because of the way he treated me.’” I said “Farewell!” to all those who deserved it, and life is going on.”

Zibbie where is the disrespect dude? He has the right to feel this way, who wouldn’t? I support Man United, this man has never done anything on the level of Carlos Tevez and has never bad mouthed the club and has been a true red throughout, such loyalty from a foreign player is rare, only a few can claim to be true reds. Hell he refused to move to another English club and only did so out of desperation to fall in love with the game again !

Thats enough from me Zibbie, but please show some respect for a honest player who had class in abundance. I love Berba but his time came to an end and I am not bitter about it, hell I love what he did for us, even in his dark days.

  84. FRO-NAM says:

Probbaly been included before! I think Berba has had lot of great unied moments like hatrick at the dippers and there are some games with individual skills that are simply breathtaking like his byline trick against west ham but I think he got stick from fans fot not scoring enough whe he had chances. One monet that always comes to mind is against city in FA cupw here he missed 2 great chances

but when I think about his time at united I always remember that day against blackburn! I was living in Jersey at the time, dandered into local bar to watch the game, got chattign to few united fans and we were literally bouncing about like absolute fools watching his 5 goals! Having him as capatain in my fantasy football that day was just icing on the cake! Check out his goals!!! and just look at the smile on his face!!!! HE LOVED IT!!!!

He is football class. But he just couldn’t make it at our team, as he should have been.

Love the current state of the blog. Keep it up guys.

As for you zibbie I can understand your situation as now you don’t have anyone to talk with. If you don’t like berba its ok but atleast some proper reason. You always talk shit. Join your oldfellas. Stop wasting your and our time here.

  89. WeAreUnited says:

Harish. finally someone put him in his place,

why always slate players? Berbatov was class, even though sometimes I hated that he didn’t score or so on, but when he played he did win us amongs Nani the League and the golden boot.

    So show some respect.

If I had been playing for United as a United supporter for so long, and got treated like that, I would be gone mad, maybe said something also, but take in mind BERBATOV never talked shit about SAF, he just said something that, he didn’t know why he wasn’t played etc.

SAF is no God, and he makes mistakes, alot of them, but it’s our luck that he does more things right and has put this team where it belongs. No disrespect to SAF, but sometimes you can lay your opinion.

TEVEZ the €€€shitty was a different thing, and showed his true colours, even though he loved our club, he always smiled with us, when does he smile with City? But he showed his colours and noww, I can’t stand him. HE was different!

Berba was class and is class. just didn’t make it as we wanted.

Fuck am I bored with this no chanting and singing fucking songs at Hillsbrough, Heysel no I mean Anfield. Two fucking weeks of what not to sing and how to behave and not one silly fucker has said, I hope its a good game.

I hope we have first minute of aeroplanes and “you killed your own fans” chants so we can enjoy the other 89 minutes of football. Since when has football been a gentlemans sport. Since when has there been a players fan bar like Rugby or a pavillion like cricket. SInce when is there a clubhouse or anywhere where the sport is played on a gentleman basis. We live in a world of little fuckers screaming jizz, fucker, monkey, mother fucker, ugly bloated retarded cock sucker. We live in a sporting world where the players drink and drive, run undergae prostitution rings, sell drugs, racial battles, pissing in the street, taking drugs and starting bar brawls. Cant remember hearing Ernie Els, Kevin Pietersson or Johny fucking” crouch i shit my pants” wilkinson doing the rock and roll routine.
Football is a sport for scummers, football is a sport for us all to let our hair down and go somewhere where the wife isnt fuckin welcome unless she puts out for the lads. Where kids learn to be men by knicking wallets and swear like a trooper and watch daddy clip a cunt round the ear for swearing in front of his fucking ill mouthed smelly cunt of a sprog.

Fucking wake up and grow up.Sticks and stones may break my bones but the way I use them ………………………

Now can we start talking about he match.
    I’ll start

Thank fuck that fat cunt Rooney wont be playing, I reckon we’ll make a go of it this time – heres to a good match. For those of you lucky enough to watch it please come on here and tell us all about it as I will have to sit and watch the skysports cameraman continuously pan in on Rooney and the commentator coming up with some useful facts and how much we miss him. Heres a stat – NO one in this household likes the cunt.

Good banter about United is what built this site.
All the teen age cock and bull can toddle on down the road as far as I am concerned.
It can come for a visit from time to time, but hopefully won’t burn to many bridges before it finds it’s way out the door and on down the road.

I am here for an exchange of views about United. After that, I don’t let myself get to bothered. United includes history and past players. So threads like this are good for remembering good times, or recalling not so good times. Both worth a work out since all educated lads will agree that they should know what they are talking about when they go out to banter with rivals (the friendly or the not so friendly).

If Harish is right about all the crap talk moving to other sites then it really is worth thanking those lads.
As for me. I have logged on to other sites for a look about.

    My usual appraisal
    I went,
    I saw,
    I left.

Like the lads on here that have stuck around and made an impact. Especially tip my hat to Scott who runs the ship a pretty cool and level head.

  98. ididnotzeeit says:

On Topic, I will not repost the overhead kick versus Pool, my Berbavorite of his goals, as it’s already been posted numerous times. I will say that Dimitar Berbatov will go down as one of my all time favorites to watch. He plays with an artistic flair that is unrivaled in today’s game. Accused of being lazy because his game is bloody effortless. A true professional and as an aside, the coolest looking, bad ass mother fucker off the pitch I’ve seen since The King.

Play well Dimi. May the ball find your feet at Fulham, may you win the golden boot and long live hat tricks versus the Dippers.

  114. Utd4life says:

If there is one thing we learnt from last season then that is to never ever underestimate your opponent. Liverpool might look weak on paper but they are going to play as if their lives depend on it and we all know how UTD have been battered, bruised and screwed during our previous 4 visits to Anfield. It’s going to be a very tough match. The key is going to be the midfield. If the Gaffer starts Giggsy then it’s fair to say that it’s going to be another long Sunday afternoon at Anfield.

  115. Utd4life says:

On topic. Berba-Class act. There are not many players in the world who are as technically brilliant as he is. The videos and the comments made by the posters above tell you that this man is one of a kind. I will never ever consider him to be a flop because if it wasn’t for him then we wouldn’t have won the 19th.

  116. Utd4life says:

My favorite Berba goal has to be the overhead kick against L’pool. A close second will be the one he scored against Blackburn where he started the run up to the goal with a 1-2 with Evra and then placing an exquisite pass to Nani before coolly slotting it home.

  117. Proverb says:

Liverpool as we know are now adopting to the tiki taka system. The downside of this system is that when your players arent Catalan , it is doomed against high energy opposition (just check out how we used to thrash the Arsenal of 2008)

I think a similar approach will pay dividends vs Liverpool

    Manchester United

Anders Lindegaard (The Dane has been solid in his last two Premier League starts and should start against Liverpool who have exploited De Gea in the past )

Rafael Da Silva (Looks good with five games on the trot..developing a level of consistency. With Stewart Downing/Fabio Borini up against him, defensive worries are few)

Nemanja Vidic (The Captain looked rusty in the first few games but was near his best against the likes of Johan Elmander against Galatasaray)

Jonny Evans (He was brilliant against Galatasaray and should edge Rio Ferdinand out of the line up)

Alexander Buttner ( After Patrice Evra’s poor showing midweek, the Dutchman is favourite to regain his position , with his energy being a huge plus)

Antonio Valencia (The number 7 is the complete package and the thought of him against Glen Johnson on his weaker side, leaves United fans licking their lips)

Michael Carrick (A brilliant performance midweek sees him probably being the first name on the teamsheet)

Tom Cleverley (The England international is set to start to provide ‘legs’ down the middle to track down the passing of Sahin and Allen)

Daniel Welbeck (With his phenomenal work-rate and brilliant vision, the youngster is set to start ahead of the ever-so-poor Nani)

Shinji Kagawa (The Japanese playmaker is the man to watch. His creativity and light touch projects him as a potential match winner)

Robin Van Persie (The old saying goes “Muscle memory works wonders”..if it were true we can expect another goal from Van Persie who stunned Anfield with a late winner for Arsenal last season)

    Subs

    David De Gea

    Patrice Evra

    Rio Ferdinand

    Paul Scholes

    Ryan Giggs

    Wayne Rooney

    Javier Hernandez

  120. Utd4life says:

Proverb. The only change I would make to that lineup would be to play Rio instead of Evans. Apart from that, I think that’s a good enough lineup to get 3 points at Anfield. We also have enough ammunition on the bench to bring on if the match is not going in our way.

On that perspective I’ll agree with you, rio is likely to get the nod over jonathan after he sat out midweeks match vs galatasaray…
And jonny on the other hand is a good defender playing him vs liverpool is not as risky he seems matured and strong, his understanding with vida has improved

Last year we went to Anfield top of the league, full points scoring for fun.Intimidating place one poster said,I said then play our intimidaters we didn’t do that and our manager played not to lose.it took until the New Year to get back to the top of the league and our scoring fell off.Every team knows our midfield is poor and will exploit that,Pool fans are expecting Sterling to make hay down the wing but bad news he is up against Fafael,I have not seen a lot of our Dutchman Buttner defending but I would have him in there serios threat there imo.I would bench Evans and hope Rio and Vidic are fit to play,DeGea would be out as I feel he could cost us the match. The front line that played Wigan would be my choice and were good to go.

For what it’s worth, that was the one Anfield game we haven’t lost in the last 5 years. Didn’t come anywhere near to winning it, but Fergie’s decision to play Jones helped us gain some bite in the midfield area. Not a surprise when you consider that the Carrick/Scholes axis has failed miserably at Anfield. I am sharing your concern about the midfield going into this game. The ideal partnership is Carrick/Cleverley and that’s also considered soft when it comes to physicallity.

Last time we won over there, we had a very energetic midfield duo. Anderson at his best and our mutual friend, Hargreaves.
