  1. matt says:

tony at RB and rafa on bench? is rafa injured?

  2. Jigpig says:

A good strong team, should be enough to see us through.

  3. Nabi says:

    Itv or sky?

  4. Jigpig says:

    Sky

  5. Dela says:

@matt — I’d doubt it. I’d say it’s becase Rafa played a full 90s minutes against Chelsea on Sunday before last, then 120 minutes against them On the Wednesday, and then 90 minutes against Arsenal on Saturday… his muscles just need a recharge I think.

  6. Costas says:

Worried about this line up being too attacking minded. Only one midfielder to really keep tabs on Braga’s. Don’t know why Tom didn’t start this. It’s as if he can’t play 3 games in a week.

  7. Ruudboy says:

I’m worried abt GIGGS in d middle.

  8. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGHHHH says:

Well deserved rest for Rafael. Midfield is a mystery to me. Rooney as CM in a 4-4-2 or is it a 4-2-3-1 with Giggs in the middle of the park with Welbeck wide left?

  9. matt says:

    @ dela

i didn’t think of that.. good point.

  10. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

i don’t know about this lineup. Seems to me like we are underestimating braga again starting giggs and playing tony V at right back. hopefully we win this game and seal this qualification deal tonight. what of cleverley? would have expected him to start. GREAT to see Smalling in the team though. Welcome back son. the second best centre back we have after vidic in my opnion.

  11. JohnnyMUFC says:

Fletcher not even on bench. Hope he is doing well and that virus stops actimg up.

  12. iDon says:

No, he is not injured, maybe Sir thought to strengthen up a bit that position, considering that opposite players in that position are too strong for Rafael … I like this formation though … hope we go through without too much pain

  13. Build a Bonfire says says:

    4 – tony v – smalling – evans – paddy

    2 – ando giggs

    3 – nani wazza wellbs

    1 – chicarito

im happy with that, see what somone was saying about ando and giigs getting overun. but wazzza will drop deep at times leaving nani, chico and welbs effectively as a front 3.

  14. Jesmonta - Malta says:

Playing players out of their usual role is dangerous.Good that SAF kept faith in DeGea. I would have played Rafael. He is on fire at the moment.

  15. parryheid says:

    Christ almighty,

    that’s not good.

  16. matt says:

damn i didnt even see smalling was a starter today. he’s been out for 4 months or something, bit of a risk.

  17. Gandalf says:

I’m not a great fan of welbeck on the left, hopefully he can put on a good shift. If Nani plays on the right, he usually plays better.
All our front players will interchange roles and should be a dynamic game. Going for 2-1 United win.
And welcome back chris smalling. just don’t get injured again!

  18. Proverb says:

Great to see chris smalling is back in contention, hopefully he’ll give that much he offered last season.. n probably more ..

  19. DirtyDevil says:

LoL, I know we have a big match this weekend but that lineup is a slap in the face to Braga…essentially says we can play any starting XI and get the points…3-1 United

  20. Proverb says:

Great to see ando is starting too, I have high hopes for the lad, he’s that sort of mid we lacked. Power, drive, skills…

As the red devils keeps on marching ON and ON!

  21. United Till I Die says:

Great line up! Not sure what formation we’ll use with only one Winger tho? Surely Giggsy won’t play wide from the beginning of the match??? Delighted to see Smalling back, all we need is Jones and Vidic back and we’re sorted in defence.

Also, everyone we’re linked with to “replace” Nani has no experience in England and costs at least 30m. Compare that to the Club that buys Nani from us, they’ll only pay around 20m and get a thoroughly experienced Champion with proven ability.

Imo selling a player of his class for peanuts and buying an expensive, unproven replacement makes no sense whatsoever. I can see some fans calling for it, but I cannot see UTD doing something as daft as that. IMO just give him the fucking ball.

  22. Andromeda says:

This lineup is some what risky in term of defending.but it should be a surprise for the Braga’s coach, he wouldn’t in his sweetest dream except such lineup, so let it be this surprise that would be our nucleus for winnig tonight…that is what I love about Fergie, the Unpredictabilitty factor.

  23. orez says:

Very crazy lineup. Too attacking but hopefully will get us through. Win today and the last two games become friendlies. Hope for a win TBH.

  24. OSYBEST says:

As smalling is just returning from injury Rafael is supposed to be there ,but still good, lets go .

  25. Andromeda says:

As for the missing stars, well its obvious.an eye on villa park, the hefty schedule ahead will make it difficult but hopefully the depth of the squad will be a strong weapon this season..

  26. JohnnyMUFC says:

    No Fletcher?

  27. AntiScouser says:

    Great line-up indeed.

  28. simple says:

Good starting for utd bt i don’t like valencia starting as a defender.good luck to utd.

  29. mansuy united says:

I think it’s a great line-up for the game. Rafa’s rested. Smalling comes back in. RvP can take a breather. Giggs experience to balance Ando’s impetuosity. And Nani, Welbeck, Wazza and Chico will be interchanging brilliantly.

  30. MyCowIsTheBest says:

Some papers report that Nani’s time at United is up because of a row with the gaffer. And now Nani starts. haha

    Glory glory!

  31. rory says:

    excited much!!!

  32. matt says:

    stream?

  33. MyCowIsTheBest says:

anyway I owned a Chelsea fan for bringing up Rio’s missed drug test here :

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/conversation?id=1216734&cc=4716

    Thanks to Scott’s articles..

  34. Redial says:

    An attacking line-up. Great!
We should go for the jugular and win this game so that we can use the remaining 2 games to give some of the squad players game time.

  35. Andromeda says:

I hope we won’t give up on Nani though.he is such an incredible talent, sometimes the press put him under a lot of pressure and that is unfair.perhaps we need him more than ever, he provides us with different options as a winger..he has certain qualities to offer different from what Valencia and Young.I know Fergie would further evaluate the lie before kick him, hope he can raise up to the expectations.

  36. Axeman says:

    anyone have a live stream?

  37. matt says:

would have been a good chance there if ando hadn’t fucked his pass to nani

  38. Joffrey Baratheon says:

European games for United are becoming hard to watch. Far too many boring games and this disjointed line up is the reason why. I haven’t a clue what formation we’re playing. Rooney is playing deeper than Anderson, Welbeck is drifting out to the left wing, Giggs is playing where ever he wants, Hernandez is completely isolated and we’re just not playing to his strengths.

  39. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Bayern dishing out another hammering in Europe. United used to go and destroy teams in the group stage like this and be ruthless, now we’re just mechanical and plod along doing enough. Really poor viewing so far.

  40. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

No incisiveness at all. playing like we’re 6-0 up. NO Urgency whatsoever.

  41. Hans says:

Come on lads we can do better than this.
Yet again final ball is letting us down. Not a single decent cross yet. Anderson is trying hard, but nothing seems to be working for him.

  42. Ice Cube says:

Strong bench. I’d rather Giggs not play. I think the team carry him. Why not give a youngster a go. There must be someone who can do a similar job. We look weak down the sides at the back, look good going forward, if we concentrated a little more.

  43. Ice Cube says:

When was the exact moment in the history of football when the game got invaded by a bunch of pansies. Stroke their face and they hit the deck like a good hitting the bottom of the bowl.

  44. Ice Cube says:

    Turd

  45. TheRadLegion says:

    BORING

  46. RedPharoe says:

    BOOOOOORIIING!!!!!!!!

    C’mon lads, do something!

  47. Joffrey Baratheon says:

United away fans pay a fortune to travel around the country and Europe and they at least deserve United to go for it and stop pissing about. United have always been renoud as an entertaining club but them days are long in the past. Absolutely awful first half and the thing is I expected it! Van Persie is the only player we have who excites me at the minute.

  48. theredderdevil says:

All the long passes not finding the intended target. speaks volumes about carrick’s and scholes’ contribution to our game

  49. WeAreUnited says:

yeah boooring, wow, never felt that it’s exited

    almost fell asleep

I think as soon we get the ball in the middle, we play it backwards and nothing more, ando is the only one who tries to bring the ball upwards, but not that good, the last chance was ok

Welbeck been a bit confused and I think Young should come for him for the second half, Welbz place is in the center as a striker.

Wouldn’t change nothing besides Young for Welbz and to speed the play of the middle

  50. RusholmeToCalabria says:

Bit boring so far – made worse by the commentator in my stream saying every dud of a Braga attack is “a big let off for United” and every failed attack we make is “really disappointing”. Twat.

  51. Costas says:

    To be expected.

  52. pablo says:

bobbins team bobbins performance.does ferguson REALLY think we can win this tournament……………….fucking abysmal…………..

  53. Louis says:

    @ice cube

Absolutely agree about Giggs, but sralex’s feeling is that there must always be an experienced player out there. Thats howI knew Giggs would start: because Scholes was left at home

  54. WeAreUnited says:

pablo it’s this kinda of a game, it requires patient.

we will win this 1 0 or 2-0 when braga tries to push .

the tournament isn’t based in this game.

BUT one thing I agree, if we continue playing like this furthermore, then we have problems, but I don’t see that, It’s just this game, 1 point and that’s all. DO we qualify with 1 point?

  55. Gandalf says:

think the team are waiting for their wake up call i.e. opponents scoring so they can step up. Fergie needs to works on the team to rid of their sloppiness.

  56. TheRadLegion says:

These players are tired and wanna go home to mommy. Boohoo. Get your act together. Win the match for the fans!

  57. Louis says:

Our wide players are playing too narrowly and too far forward. Cleverley for Giggs would give us some energy in midfield, and allow Rooney to go a drop forward and push Nani and Welbeck a little bit wider

  58. Unitedfanatic says:

I would fancy another youngster in place of Giggsy. Him and Ando don’t really make a good center-midfield for me. Maybe Powell and Ando?
I’m worried how uncreative we have been seeing the team sheet. Not created chances, not done enough. Are we so dependent on RVP in a matter of months? Not a good sign, we need to kick on lads!

  59. Louis says:

    @weareunited

Everyone is saying that one point sees us qualify, I dont see it, unless Gala beat CLuj tonight

  60. nairobired says:

    Well that was crap.
Why is rooney playing deeper than anderson?

  61. Rd54 says:

Yes to all ando lovers ,what a talent !terminate the attack every time, but don’t think these is the worst for his standard this is good.and what is his most worst thing?i will tell u later.

  62. pablo says:

why not play our best team win the group then rest players in next two games…? puzzling….like joffrey says all our players are out of position they’ve no idea of the formation and we’re making the third best team in portugal look like dare i say barca………………………??!!

  63. TheRadLegion says:

No. Anderson is the best midfielder we have right now. It’s true. I read it here therefor it’s true.

  64. WeAreUnited says:

    @louis

ok mate cheers, thank you, let’s hope 1 point is well enough for us

    btw

Gala is leading so maybe that’s enough for us :) celtic leading Barca WOW

  65. Redial says:

Bayern trashing lille 5-nil at half-time. Poor, poor Lille!

  66. TheRadLegion says:

    PENALTY FOR ARSENAL!

  67. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Pablo, Fergie said pre match that he would be fielding his best team to get the job done. Well he’s left our best player out and although he’s playing a lot of first teamers he’s playing them all completely out of position as we all can painfully see. Hernandez might as well not be out there because he is so isolated.

  68. Louis says:

    stone cold penalty

  69. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Well we deserve to be behind let’s face it. Fergie pissed about with the formation even though Braga gave us an absolute run around at Old Trafford and he didn’t pay them any respect.

  70. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

Really Really REALLY getting fucking tired of our poor performances in Europe.

  71. Jay says:

The performance so far is lacklustre, feel for Hernandez he’s not getting the proper service he needs. I watched Borussia Dortmund play against Real Madrid and they reminded me of the way Manchester United to play when Cristiano Ronaldo was in the team. I read a stat recently where they looked at the passing from Wilshere and Cleverly who both had similar numbers. However Wilshere had more passes going forward and had passes going backwards and sideways which is sympton of what Manchester United do even Shinji mentioned this. We need to get back to bossing games and letting teams bully us off the ball.

  72. Joffrey Baratheon says:

I love Sir Alex as much as anyone but I’m so fucking angry right now with this absolute bollocks performance. I coul forgive it as a one off but this is becoming a common thing for us in Europe. What was he playing at playing this Christmas pudding of a formation?!

  73. TheRadLegion says:

This trumps my emotion last night after Romney lost.

  74. evisu says:

    BLACKOUT!!

  75. Gandalf says:

gosh, even the lights are bored with this bollocks. zzzzzzzzz

  76. Ice Cube says:

Fergie must be thinking of taking giggs and welbeck off for RVP and cleverly. We need energy in the middle….oh and some lights..

  77. AntiScouser says:

I want to see if I get this right. After last season’s CL debacle, our manager said he would not field a weak side or experiment in the CL again. He spoke of a lack of professionalism and respect for the competition. So what does he decide to do? After 3 successful, but lacklustre performances and one inspiring comeback, you would expect him to play his best side so we could wrap qualifiying for the next round tonight and avoid going to Turkey under pressure. Instead, he plays a team with Valencia at RB, Giggs at CM, and Smalling after half a year out. Madness. And needless.

  78. Andromeda says:

Don’t write us off just yet.I believe we can still win this one.real united will show up in the second half I have a strong feeling about it.

  79. Joffrey Baratheon says:

For god sakes no. Please restore the power so we can just get this game over with! I couldn’t bare going through it again!

  80. evisu says:

The Illuminati killed the lights so we could get a rematch!

  81. Redial says:

Is it the Aston Villa game we are resting players for? Leading to this crap formation?
    SHMG

  82. Hans says:

Do we now win by default?

Is Danny ever going yo learn to control the ball decently?

  83. WeAreUnited says:

    Ice Cube says:

Fergie must be thinking of taking giggs and welbeck off for RVP and cleverly. We need energy in the middle….oh and some lights..

    THIS

  84. Proverb says:

We’ll play in the dark, We’ll play in the dark, We’re Man United, We’ll play in the dark.

  85. pablo says:

i’m still being patient……when are the real man united gonna turn up….? garbage.lets hope the blackout might save us…………..pissed off…………….

  86. WeAreUnited says:

we will get that 1-1 or 2-1 and go through tonight, SURE about that!!

    Proverb that’s cool

We Are ManUtd and we’ll do what we want haha

  87. TheRadLegion says:

We are Manchester United of course and by the law of the universe we win by default should a case like this arise.. we play like sh*t doesn’t have anything to do with this.

  88. Louis says:

Cleverley on for Giggs, i reckon

  89. Portugueseprincess says:

Hahahaha i just knew this would happen today. 3rd time this season in braga haha no money to pay the bills lil
    @

  90. Hans says:

Tonight’s lacklustre performance so far, reminded me of last season match at Wastelands. At least this match is not as important.

  91. matt says:

rio on for evans? is evans injured or something

  92. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

Why is Giggs still on the pitch? Van Persie not on yet?

  93. Arthur "van Two Sheds" Jackson says:

    van Persie on!!!

  94. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Can anyone still figure out what formation we’re playing? Someone please tell me if they know. Thanks.

  95. Ice Cube says:

I’d settle for a shot saved by their keeper. I can’t remember what he looks like.

  96. Andromeda says:

It certainly looks as if thats blackout thing has sabotaged our chance to recover, but we can still do the job.

  97. WeAreRed says:

    RVP!!!

  98. matt says:

fuck i missed it fucken shit stream who scored

  99. Ice Cube says:

If I ever get arrested, I’m going to ring up RVP. He seems to specialise in getting people out of jail.

  100. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

the only ray of light in a poor performance. THANK YOU ROBIN.

  101. Ice Cube says:

Great control from chico. He has improved so much. Rooney, good pen.

  102. LonestarRed says:

    YeeeeeeSSSSSSS

  103. Ice Cube says:

Sorry, luck penalty. It hit his other foot lol

  104. Unitedyankee says:

This what it feels like to be United!!! Never say die

  105. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

LOL Rooney might have missed that. Please Just let robin take the penalties wayne. At least we are ahead now.

  106. matt says:

    @ ice cube

Haha nice call. I’m stealing it

  107. Hans says:

Congratulation to Celtic. They fully deserved their glory tonight.

  108. Costas says:

    Lights out Braga. 8)

  109. Costas says:

Won on autopilot. Hope Evans is ok.

  110. LonestarRed says:

    Geeeet Innnn

  111. evisu says:

Haha that last goal was pure comedy!

  112. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

WTF HERNANDEZ. put it in the net ONE TIME.

  113. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Papering over the cracks. Embarrassed to get that victory.

  114. nambuck says:

What do you call a player who score goal with his back on the ground?

    Chicharito.

  115. Proverb says:

I hope moaning scumbags get lost now

  116. Arthur "van Two Sheds" Jackson says:

Chico scores the craziest goals, doesn’t he? With his face. Backward header. Now this ridiculous thing.

  117. belfast red. says:

Thank fk 4 that. Now we can focus on the league.

  118. WeAreUnited says:

that guy knows how to score RVP AND CHICHA :D thank God Rooney scored that penalty.

Nothing to be proud than our spirit of United, never say die attitude.

    THROUGH

Giggs left a hole, yo ucan see that we cannot use Giggsy in Europe. But a win is a win and if you expected and easy win there, poor you, this was expected and luckily we got away with our poor display,

great teams are known to play bad and win.

    peace,

  119. TheRadLegion says:

In addition we now have Fergie’s light

  123. Proverb says:

Great stuff by the lads, just the perfect birthday present for both rio and david
Not convincing but good enough to see us through.
    I’m the happiest fan alive
As the red devils keeps on marching on and on

  124. Unitedforeva says:

Wow I’m so happy, into the knockout! We can test our reserves for the remaining 2 games!

  125. Andromeda says:

This spirit of this team reminds of 1999.I never doubted our chance of coming back..with RVP everything is just amazing.this man is born to score, its really sad to see him not winning an important trophy with Arsenal.

  126. mybloodismetal says:

damn i missed the last goal..stupid internet

  127. Hans says:

The floodlight failure (& few subs) saved the day!!!

  129. zigoo says:

    i love watching RVP

    what a player

such quality, reminds me of the days of a certain cristiano, when we had a player of such calibre

  130. redbilly says:

    RVP pure class

  131. orez says:

Too bad I can’t watched it. Well good on guys for gettingthe job done, but it sucks that the quility of the play was poor once again.

  132. matt says:

why was jonny taken off? injury? or SAF pissed about giving away the pen?

  133. LonestarRed says:

    @ Arthur JAckson 22:48

    That is what POACHERS do.

  134. gexmex says:

Once we got a proper 4 – 4 – 2 with the Valencia – Rafael combo in place, the team started playing. Valencia can play the RB position but that is wasting him. I know that RVP did great, but for me, Valencia is the key to our offensive play. I hope SAF gets the right conclusion and simply lets Valencia shine on that wing.
My Mexican mate just wrote me about Hernandez (who did not play well today). According to him, Chicharito has scored in each of the last 7 games he has played (starting or sub). He has 8 goals, six of of them have been for United, 2 for Mexico.

  135. United Till I Die says:

Haven’t read the comments since the game started so I bet there’s some classics in here haha.

Before I read anything can I just say stop writing us off FFS! No, our performance wasn’t great, but look at the facts. We’re playing a full strength Braga at their ground with a weakened side, and they need a win to stand a chance of qualifying while we don’t. You’d be a daft to expect us to dominate tonight!

This was a game we had to nick, and we did. Our line up was intended to rest players and grab either a draw or a win. Imo its a risk we could take at this stage in Europe and Fergie took it. Simple as that. On another night he’d be slated and people would be questioning his sanity! As it turns out it was a brilliant line up, as that team DID have enough to get a result, and important players have been rested for the must win game we’ve got in less than 3 days.

We can hardly RELY on Liverpool to beat Chelsea and keep us on top can we?? Having a full strength team for Aston Villa is much more important than having it tonight. IMO we’re playing Villa at a bad time as they’ve turned a corner it seems and they’ll fancy an upset. These next few games against “smaller” teams won’t be walk-overs fellas. We can be complacent in the League, but we could tonight, and its paid off.

So having said all that im delighted with this result – and all things considered the performance wasn’t that bad either – especially if you remember that performances at the end of the game still count! Yes Braga performed better for most of the match, but they didn’t exactly pepper De Gea’s goal did they? Their penalty was soft, they hit the post… and thats about it!

Top of the Table at home and in Europe. Bring on Villa.

  136. Northwalesred says:

Flattering result we were shite, won’t be as lucky against better teams.

  137. WeAreUnited says:

    @United Till I Die

bro maybe you are english and you know how to write better than me, but you say everything I want to.

Everything yo usaid is 100% true

I said earlier while the game was on and it was 0-0: WeAreUnited says:

“it’s this kinda of a game, it requires patient. we will win this 1 0 or 2-0 when braga tries to push .
the tournament isn’t based in this game. BUT one thing I agree, if we continue playing like this furthermore, then we have problems, but I don’t see that, It’s just this game, 1 point and that’s all.

Well we got 3 points and a solid win. So let’s be happy, OF course there was nothing to be proud of the performance besides our never say die attitude, which is the mainreason we are know for, so that said, very happy with the win.

  138. parryheid says:

What do you mean a weakened team ?That was an incedibly strong lineup,I know because people on here were telling me and others how strong it was.I would like to see how they scored the players performances tonight.

  139. WeAreUnited says:

well Giggsy in europe in the middle.

Valencia as a right back, Smalling just returned from injury, Welbeck going a very bad spell and is playing bad in the left flank, and Nani has had his bad spell all season long. And Ando hasn’t been our first choice in a long time, though he has played his last games VERY good.

Is that weakened enough for you?

But that’s why we are strong, cause we have 2 strong line-ups. Sometiems it doesn’t work-out. It almost did against Chelski in the Cup, but this time, the subs changed our game.

  140. Rohan_19 says:

That was an extremely lazy performance, class goal by rvp though..

Mate, being English has nothing to do with speaking/writing better English. In fact, its quite the opposite! haha!

  143. WeAreUnited says:

parryheid i don’t get it? were you joking before or for real, it’s hard to tell when you don’t see peoples facial expressions, so your response doesn’t tell anything mate : D

    jeez. ?

    peace.

  144. United Till I Die says:

@Northwalesred – but mate, would we start that line up against better sides? Course not, we won’t even play that side against Villa and thats the whole point. We were top of our group before kick off and could afford to take a one-off risk against Braga. We CANNOT afford to take any risks against Villa this weekend, and thats why we’ve rested players. When a Club is challenging on so many fronts these are the tough decisions managers have to take, and Fergie took it with aplomb.

Im just grateful we’ve got a recently retired red like Gary on SKY so he can confirm stuff like this. He pretty much said the same thing in the build up. IMO nobody should look at this performance and make predictions for the season, simply because Fergie didn’t treat tonight as must win. The fact we won is a bonus and goes to show our lads don’t ever give up.

  145. WeAreUnited says:

Mahesh, well I think, if it’s you native language then of course it should have to do, but this doesn’t include everyone atleast not on the forums or blogs or in the Internet haha.

I tend to speed up here and forget to check do I have any typos, so that’s why I have so many typos, that was were I was based on, and the fact that I’m not english /british :P

but that’s funny man :D hahaha

  146. pablo says:

speechless i should know better………….delighted but hey that were’nt great…………..never write off man united and van persie is a world world class footballer……….

  147. denton davey says:

gexmex@ 23:05: “Hernandez (who did not play well today).”

    What ?

He scored the third in an astonishingly-amusing fashion and essentially assisted on the second when he drove-the-net and forced their keeper to fumble the ball which led to the clip on TheWayneBoy which led to the penalty…….

Chicharito is a lead-the-line poacher – when he didn’t get any service (which was for most of the game) he was anonymous but once SAF brought on RVP and RedRafa, moving AV7 up to the wing, then Chicharito’s game started to click into place.

I like that, the mexicutioner. swear you come up with the best nicknames for our players.

  149. United Till I Die says:

@Parryheid – incredibly strong line up? You sure about that?

As individuals that team was strong I agree, but the combination of players wasn’t. I certainly wouldn’t call it a strong line up, if anything i’d call it a calculated risk mate. Valencia at RB isn’t exactly the cornerstone of an air tight defence is it? Smalling has been out forever but he started ahead of a fully fit, in-form Rio. Only Evra and Evans were fully fit, first team defenders, so you’d have a hard time convincing anyone our back four wasn’t weakened tonight.

Then theres the midfield. I still think Giggs has a role to play, but when he’s starting ahead of Carrick or Cleverley we’re hardly strengthened are we? Nani and Valencia on the same flank allowed Nani to play more centrally, which is great on an individual level, but with Welbeck and Hernandez up top we were weakened by not having two proper wingers in midfield to provide cross after cross from both flanks.

Not sure who you’re referring to when you say others thought it was a strong line up, maybe you should address them and have a normal conversation? As far as im concerned it was a great line up after Arsenal and before Villa – we needed to rest players for Saturday, but we also needed to have enough on the pitch to nick a result tonight. We’ve done that and im delighted with it.

In my mind this performance doesn’t matter anyway, as Fergie probably won’t play another team like it till we face Cluj again, and by then the game should be reduced to a friendly. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be spitting feathers if we started this team against Villa as its not strong enough, but against Braga it was a risk worth taking and im glad we took it.

Three goals, three points, and we remain top of the group? Smalling got 90 mins, Anderson got another 90 mins. RVP, Rooney and Hernandez all scored. Thats a brilliant result in my book. The performance was always gonna be patchy with that line up and Braga needing a win, but our individual stars made the difference. Swings and round about mate, but im certainly not reading too much into what was essentially a novel team selection.

I’m glad you like it – a lot don’t but you can’t please all the people, all the time.

I was beginning to wonder if all those fly-by-nighters had left RoM for the other forum because of my nicknaming guys. I’m reassured that I can please some of the people, some of the time.

    cheers, M8

    United Till I Die.

go back to my post at 2016.my incedibly strong is irony buddy my real view on the team is what a shocker that goalkeeper apart the defence, midfield and front line were all impacted by a poor team selection which in my view treated our opponents with contempt much the same as last year and that my friend is not acceptable and getting the three points last night does not excuse it.

  152. United Till I Die says:

    @Parryheid – ah, I see what you’ve done there.

Still think the risky team was necessary with Villa in a few days, but I get what your saying mate.
