  1. AK47 says:

Has he gone for welbeck to provide height when defending set pieces?

    Looks like an unbalanced team

  2. Singh7 says:

    Where the fucks Nani??

  3. Costas says:

If you want to play a game of possession, then it is probably better to play without wingers. That being said, Nani not even on the bench comes as a shock.

About time we lined up without Paul and Ryan though.

  4. Ak says:

    Is Buttner injured????

  5. ssj4gogeta says:

Welbeck on the wing is not that effective …. and given that rooney and cleverly usually have a free role on the field .. we’ll probably be seeing welbz and RVP up front more often .

  6. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

is nani injured? kinda surprise that he’s not even in the team altogether. It’s an alright lineup but once again we are playing with a midfield two unless fergie is putting kagawa in midfield today. But i am alright with the lineup. Hopefully we can pull out the win today. Gonna be really tough. COME ONNN BOYS!!!!

  7. Hans says:

If there ever was a time for United to make a statement, this is it.

Bit worried we do not have a recognized winger!!

  8. Ak says:

Rooney could be playing central midfield in a 3.

Kagawa n welbz Playing from wider areas?

  9. Joffrey Baratheon says:

We’ve been lacking any fluency to our play all season and this line up doesn’t fill me with any confidence. Injuries to Young and Valencia have not helped obviously but now Nani not even on the bench? What’s wrong with him now?

  10. parryheid says:

Oooh, Well that guarantees an easy victory, delighted DeGea is playing I mean how could he be left out after the way Hart played midweek? All he has to do is remember to stay on his line, not attempt going for cross balls or corners and pat away all/any shots that are coming directly at him.Clean sheet a certainty that’s our matchwinner right there ably assisted by Evra I mean what could possibly go wrong?Front four solid the rest behind them eek,Hoping for the best expecting the worst.

  11. Stevo says:

Maybe Anderson should have started to give our midfield more bite and steel?

  12. Costas says:

If Fergie is looking to emulate the Cluj formation, then I am guessing Carrick will be the shield behind the back 4 and Tom, Kagawa and Rooney will be interchanging behind RVP and Danny.

  13. DirtyDevil says:

Nani isn’t on the bench for no reason I guess…I’m pleased we dnt hav giggs or scholes starting…no natural wingers today so we better keep most of the possession

  14. Andreas says:

Gents! It’s a 4-3-3, with Kagawa in COM role. Welbz, Rooney and RVP up front and making the “Toons” loke like “Loney Toons”!!

  15. Red Neville says:

Costas, Carrick playing behind the back four? A bold prediction from you there :O

  16. Atin says:

Scott – We got a live blog today?

  17. Redial says:

Fucking good starting line-up!!! We are fucking winning this. Go red devils!!!!

  18. Costas says:

    @Red Neville

It’s the only one I can make with that midfield.

  19. Marq says:

Good enough lineup for me. Welbeck there to provide some height against Cisse & Ba when defending set pieces. Nani have been blowing hot & cold, more cold than hot, but I would still put him on the bench ahead of Giggs.

All said and done, lets see how for the first time this season the tandem of Rooney, Rvp & Kagawa works

  20. Lee says:

Wonder why always play Evra ,he is very slow….. in defending .Why not play Buttner as he play better than not old man. Other team hve been scoring goal and your is still playing chasing game.Alex …Please wake up.

  21. KVN says:

I like the fact that Welbeck is starting along with TC because whenever those two play together there’s a good understanding . United just need to keep possesion , attack with imagination and intensity and defend as a unit with discipline .

  22. Rohan_19 says:

Think its a 4-2-3-1.. Im wondering who’ll play on the right of the 3 though

    Maybe its
    Back 4
    Carrick clev
    Welbeck rooney kagawa
    Rvp..

Changes to a 4-5-1 while defending.

Great lineup. Hope the performance is good too

  23. mansuy united says:

i am thrilled with this lineup. it’s great to see the manager trying new tactics. granted, there are some question marks and doubts, but i would rather see the formation tailored to our strengths, rather than forcing a 442 no matter what.

  24. SAF IS BOSS says:

We will win this!!! Believe my fellow red devils!! One united

  25. utd will never die says:

Doesn’t surprise me Nani has been left out the lad has been a passenger I mentioned last week he made no attempt to track back or any effort to put in tackles when in defensive positions seem hell bent in blaming Giggs,Scholes and Carrick but when the team is carrying a passenger makes it difficult for everyone

  26. Rohan_19 says:

This is the 3600th first team game in which an mufc youth player has featured for united, on the bench or on the pitch.
    Thats amazing

  27. The Devil in Me says:

Heres hoping ben arfa and jonas dont run riot on the wings

  28. kungfoocantona says:

fuckin carrick in again and ando out AGAIN…unfair if u ask me..other than that big plus he started de gea and good to see valencia on the bench….but pissed of at ando bein dropped what the fuck has he got to do to earn a place and every week carrick does nothing exept give the ball away yet he gets on…ando would have been perfect for this game..just go for the cunts..ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK

  29. Rohan_19 says:

    COMMON UNITED!!

I say 3-1 to us. Rooney brace and rvp for the third one..

  30. Joffrey Baratheon says:

I hate to be a doom mongerer but I really don’t fancy our chances today. The team seems to change drastically with each game and history has proven that only spells trouble.

  31. Rohan_19 says:

Jorffery : its not that different from the cluj game. Carrick kagawa welbeck come in for ando chicho and fletch

  32. kungfoocantona says:

i fancy are chances but it will have to be another 3 2..that midfield system doesnt work unless ando with his pace and power is there….carrick will sit infront of the back 4 and do nothing…..but rooney and rvp up front is great to see again…were is welz plain…the wing again?insulting if u ask me with valencia on the bench and nani not even in the team…seems to me nani may be a goner…would be a shame to be honest

  33. Daniel says:

Evra and Rafael sold down the river.
They will be left 1 vs 1 against Jonas and Ben Arfa.

  34. Rohan_19 says:

Kungfoo : you’re right partly. Think welbeck will be upront with rvp and rooney will link midfield to attack.

  35. Iversen says:

Will we concede yet another early goal? Please start playing from the first whistle this time!

  36. utd will never die says:

Yeah Carrick does nothing, last week he ran over six and a half miles and received the ball 420 times, the lad needs to pick his game up and get involved more

  37. bRed says:

SAF has said it himself that he finds it hard to leave Ando out, so at least the boss is acknowledging the good work put in whenever he’s played.

Agree that Nani would have been a useful option, at least from the bench.

    Kick-off! Cmon United!

  38. Proverb says:

    Come on you reds!!!!!!

  39. MURebel says:

HOWARD WEBB – Man of the match.

  40. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Lovely move and touch from Evans but I’m sorry that was not good enough from Welbeck. Awful effort.

  41. bRed says:

    WTF Welbeck! Absolutely no confidence.

  42. Dela says:

    GET IN JOHNNY!!!

  43. bRed says:

    Get In!!!

  44. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Fucking get in. Brilliant header from Evans!

  45. Iversen says:

FUCK YES. Fantastic start! We are looking great!

  46. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Brilliant play by Rafael. We’ve actually started a game on the front foot for once. Welbeck should have burried that again.

  47. Dela says:

Wow that sums up welbeck’s season so far, open goal miss, even with the pressure from the keeper, but hey danny, excellent work to put the keeper under so much pressure!!

  48. Santa Claus says:

    Why cant danny finish?

  49. Iversen says:

Thats it danny. Just stop shooting. Really.

  50. CoppelRED says:

    Lift your head Wellbeck!

  51. utd_fc says:

Bloody hell I love Welbz but he needs to be composed in front of goal.

  52. Dela says:

EVRA!!! :D I CANT BELIEVE THIS!

  53. nicky says:

    FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKK YEaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  54. Iversen says:

    Who else!? GET IN!

  55. SAF IS BOSS says:

    Evra………..

  56. bRed says:

    Woohoo!!

  57. Joffrey Baratheon says:

    Unbelievable!

  58. CoppelRED says:

    Evra!!

  59. Marq says:

You know you are having a good day when even Evra scores

    More please

  60. Daniel says:

    WOW … 2-0 … WOW

    Cleverley is superb.

  61. Traffordlord says:

Rafael is on his game, the lad is on fire…the captain nods another in. Danny you have to score or pass…don’t make it complicated, keep your chin up young man.

  62. kel says:

Newcastle is quite a physical team and i think we will be packing our midfield so that we have more steel and defence as our defending is shocking.

    Now we are winning 2-0!

  63. Mr C says:

Top performance so far. Rooney looks a much better playing deep, making the play, than at the point of the attack – goals or no goals.

  64. Redial says:

That’s collector’s item. A goal from evra. And a header at that!

  65. Sushi says:

I say again thank god there is no Tim krul today

  66. Redbilly says:

Now this us the kind if start we had in the old days. Come on lads

  67. Marq says:

How is that a yellow card for Kagawa? He barely touched him!

  68. akanemo says:

hi any live links. tv strike today lol

  69. akanemo says:

hi any live links. tv strike today lol

  70. Sushi says:

Wtf what’s Webb doing? Ben arfa is a little twat fucking ba stomped all over cleverly and he didn’t do shit

  71. Santa Claus says:

webb is getting on the nerves .. he is yellow crazy

  72. Dela says:

REF, PUT YOUR YELLOW CARD AWAY!!

  73. mig78 says:

damn so many yellow card already. webb trying to prove something here?

  74. mig78 says:

    tiote asshole.

  75. Iversen says:

    Haha.. Tiote = Zen-master

  76. Sushi says:

Wow…..fucking clowns these Newcastle players guess they learn from their manager

  77. James7t7 says:

Why are we working up the crowd.. Settle down and continue to play.

  78. Mr C says:

We need one more to kill the game off.

  79. Dela says:

Newcastle really piling on now, they know one more will be unredeemable so they are trying their absolute best to get one before half time. Hold on guys hold on!!

  80. Proverb says:

Jonas you nutter that should have been a straight red

  81. Proverb says:

    Welbeck come on

  82. CoppelRED says:

    Wellbeck’r too indecisive !

  83. Dela says:

Great first half. Smashing start and then managed to let Newcastle throw the kitchen sink at them without breaking, although I have slight concerns about De Gea when he comes out to collect the ball, but hey, I’m not going to say anything bad about that first half, it’s been a while since I’ve seen United start with a bit between their teeth.

  84. Marq says:

    Welbeck needs more composure

  85. Redial says:

Good game so far. But we seem to have stepped back two bits since scoring the second goal. But wait. We actually just got 2 goals from corners!!!

  86. Adam says:

I find it so frustrating watching Wellbeck..he’s so uncomposed in the box it’s driving me up the wall.. he wastes all of his work constantly but just running straight into a wall of defenders.. tripping himself, chosing the wrong pass etc..

  87. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of that first half. Special praise reserved for PATRICE EVRA cuz I have been his number one critic for the past few months. He was absolutely BRILLIANT. in the first half. Nothing got past him. Ben Arfa had to switch sides cuz he couldn’t get past patrice. He was different human being in that first half. Amazing performance from him. If he keeps playing like that then there might be no competition at Left back anymore.

  88. Sushi says:

Anyone else think welbeck has lost his confidence and daring? I remember his debut goal where he fuckin blasted it from 30 yards. He needs to go back to that. Get more spirited and excited

  89. AntiScouser says:

I haven’t seen the midweek game. It has to be said, some elements of our play were truly remarkable, nearly perfect, specially in the first 20 min. I wonder if we’ll seen this form on a consistent basis now.

  90. Mr C says:

We really dropped off …I don’t think its a matter of pressing or running about as much as being able to hold the ball and starve Newcastle out of the game

  91. WeAreUnited says:

Great first half, pushed the 2 goals and just tried to slow the game down. The downside is that we haven’t seen the ball as much anymore.

Danny bour, better get your grip in the second half!!!

    cmon. Looks promising go Reds!

  92. Santa Claus says:

Should have been be 4-0 if not for some poor finishing from welbeck but good thing is alteast providing the cover and defending. rooney and cleverly have been impressive. Kagawa is bit off ..First 20 mins brilliant in the list 15 mins we didnt keep the ball once we got it back .. we tried to hit them soon and gave the ball away cheaply . should keep the ball a bit more

  93. Proverb says:

Fucking great first half, the lads really pulled their socks off, we looked more dangerous in counters
Really loved that first half even though at the end we allowed them tynesiders to see more of the ball…. Get in!!!!!!

Even though he scored a goal today evra still was abit shaky at the back he was caught out of position a couple of time!!!!

    United, united, united!!!!!!

  94. Costas says:

Fantastic opening 20. The diamond formation looks to be more suited for us for the time being. Newcastle were always going to come back at us, so it was nice to see the midfield covering the defence so much.

  95. Costas says:

Pity Danny didn’t score from that silky pass from Evans. 8)

  96. chicoagogo says:

All we need now is Rooney n RVP to bang in a couple each :-) just hope we don’t sit back the barcodes still a threat it they get there act together with their finishing

  97. utd will never die says:

DDG has to work out his issues with flapping at crosses its a major flaw that a goalie can’t have at this level

  98. Proverb says:

Rafael really growing and becoming a man right before my eyes, we have a terrific player in rafa
Hopefully his twin brother will comeback hungryer ready to stake his position in the squad. Fucking great team, it was about damn time

  99. Redial says:

Looking forward to seeing valencia come on. I’d say welbz for TV7.

  100. slayer says:

A good start for United. 2-0 in the first half but the yellow cards are a bit of concern. Seldom see United picking so many in the first half.

  101. Red Robin says:

The demand on goal line technology for premier league games will be the headline for tomorrow.

  102. Mahesh says:

wow – I’m a big DDG fan, but he’s been horrendous today in dealing with balls in the box…i don’t think he’s got ONE ball!

  103. mig78 says:

Cleverly has been brilliant today. Magnificent box-to-box stuff from the lad.

  104. slayer says:

Is that technology also meant for offside and how about the tackles? Don’t they need a better way to determine if someone has touch or foul the others?

  105. Dela says:

@Red Robin –> Yep, no matter what happens the rest of the game the focus in he media will be that questionable moment, i dont think it completely crossed the line but every fan of every other club will.

  106. James7t7 says:

Why are we rushing… Cleverly needs to learn of scholes. Put yer foot on the ball and be calm

  107. Mahesh says:

not over the line for me…ddg redeemed himself on that one…just about…

  108. Redbilly says:

The whole of the ball did not completely cross the line . Even a short sighted bunt like me could see it, media won’t though .

  109. Iversen says:

What a game from Wayne Rooney so far. Head and shoulders above the rest.

  110. Dela says:

OH MY GOD TOM, JESUS H CHRIST! WOW!

  111. mig78 says:

Now that is what i call magic!

  112. Traffordlord says:

    OMG…Cleverley!!!!!

  113. kel says:

    what a goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  114. Redbilly says:

    Yyyeeeeeeessssss. Tommo

  115. Proverb says:

Weeeeeeeeeee tomas you beauty…. Beckham like!!!!!!!!!!!

  116. Santa Claus says:

We are rushing a bit when we get the ball , must slow down and keep the ball take the momentum out of newcastle and then have a go at them again

    Brilliant goal by cleverly

  117. Mahesh says:

If Cleverley meant that…oh my god!

  118. Marq says:

Whether it was a fluke or not, we don’t care, great hit!

  119. bbqbod says:

    NICE!!! Happy Days

  120. clev23 says:

wow was that a shot or cross by cleverly?

  121. Redbilly says:

Given the choice between a 4 th or a clean sheets, it’s the latter for me

  122. Redbilly says:

    Boys in fire

  123. Adam says:

This is EXCACTLY when Scholes should be release..

  124. Santa Claus says:

cabaye is fucking annoying .. like al other newcastle players .. acting like p

  125. mig78 says:

it would be nice if VP can get a goal.

  126. mig78 says:

rafael has done a great job defusing ben arfa’s threat so far…

  127. mig78 says:

Too bad, VP is off, giggs is on.

  128. Proverb says:

The ginger prince at it again :D

  129. clev23 says:

    haven’t seen much from valencia

  130. Joffrey Baratheon says:

Job done and a big 3 points. Rafael and Evans have been excellent. I’m starting to fear for De Gea. I really want the lad to do well but I’m starting to lose a bit of confidence in him. Makes you wonder how Spurs can sign the France captain for 12 million and we spent 17 million on a kid with promise with very little experience.

  131. Sgtmartz says:

How can anyone justify playing Welbeck.

  132. Dela says:

Great result. Now, I just want to point out how infrequent messages on the forum are today, simply because we played well. Of course more people will flood in and post about the game over the remainder of the day, but if we had played like we played against spurs last week we’d see nothing but constant criticism, alarmist complaints etc. filling up this thread.

  133. Adam says:

I’m sure Cleverly will admit that it wasn’t an attempt at goal as it was a near post cross for RVP.. doesn’t matter.. went in..

Wellbeck.. sorry, but we need to loan him out until he gets his shit together..

  134. edcunited1878 says:

De Gea will be fine. When he was at his best last year, he played week in and week out. Playing at Tyneside is always tricky for GK. You only have to remember how windy it was last year during that weekday thrashing. I believe De Gea didn’t play that match, so him keeping a clean sheet in his first start at Newcastle is good. He needs games on the run.

  135. Vivek says:

Great game, especially in the first 20 mins. Then it was a matter of seeing it out, and we did it especially well. Evra seems to have finally gotten the wake up call and was excellent today, as was Rafael. The only worrying note was DDG’s total inability to handle crosses.

Has Fergie finally decided to abandon the 442 and use a more continental formation, even in the league? Worked well today, but the formation does depend heavily on the fullbacks to provide width, and if they are not on song, it can leave wide open spaces behind them for better teams to exploit.

  136. Shebangsthedrums says:

Great result and much needed. I’m afraid I really don’t trust DeGea, I don’t like to have a go at any Utd player, but he was poor. I’ve always felt he was the wrong choice keeper, he’s too light weight, flaps at crosses and if he ever does develop into a top class keeper, Barca or Real will come calling and he’ll want to go. I trust Sam Johnstone more.

  137. The One says:

You idiots, get off Welbz beck!!

  138. edcunited1878 says:

Haha, loan out Welbz. Didn’t say that last year now did we. He’s young, a youth product who plays a role for the better of the team. His work rate is tops amomgst the forwards and scored big goals last year when partnered up front with Rooney

  139. The One says:

And get off DDG’s beck too!!

  140. RedBorneo says:

@Joffrey Baratheon, just ask your question to fergie.. lol.

  141. dMuzikManUnited says:

    Ernie on Twitter: “Someone
    should check Rafaels pockets
before he leaves, he might forget
    to let Ben Arfa out.

  142. Sgtmartz says:

I just wonder if welbz was not from our youth academy what people would say about him. When was the last time he scored?

  143. Tom says:

Brilliant. Delighted to see giggs and scholes deployed in that way, shows adaptability and strength in depth of our squad that we can draw on to get us through the clusterfuck of games we’ve got coming up in all competitions. Love to see Rooney playing the role he did, work rate was immense, defensively he was brilliant, as was Carrick.

I miss the width that we have with our wingers, but with rafael playing the way he has he can offer us that width, not do sure about Evra though. He was much better defensively today, but still not as convincing as we’d all like. I’d still say he’s a better bet that buttner though if he keeps playing the way he did today.

I’m a big de gae fan, I think he’s a brilliant talent and his reactions will save us for years to come. Yes he’s flappy at corners and crosses, but if he just stays on his line and let’s our centre backs take care of things well be ok. Hart does this and the media would have you believe he’s gods gift to the game.

What a player rafael is turning into.

  144. Tom says:

    And bollocks cleverly meant that

  145. utd will never die says:

No ones on DDG’s back since day 1 he’s been too skinny and l ooks out of his depth with crosses and nothing has changed,it cost the team last year and will this that’s just a fact

  146. Tom says:

    @utd will never die

Reckon thfs a blinkered view mate, yes his flapping has cost us, but his reaction saves also saved us valuable points and wi
    Continue to.

  147. Redial says:

Great game for us. Concerning the controversial no-goal, I’d say it’s the law of karma that’s worked in our favour. Newcastle scored a penalty goal to get a point at OT last season from a non-foul. Right? But tell that to the ABUs.

  148. utd will never die says:

Doesn’t matter if DDG is the best shot stopper in the world his inablity to deal with crosses is not acceptable at Utds level its a flaw that gives the whole defense jitters because the goalie has to take charge

  149. Tom says:

Fair point, I’ve got faith in the lad though and I reckon he’ll put in some match winning performances.

  150. utd will never die says:

Tom was frustrating for me is everyone knows his weakness been with the club over a season and doesn’t look to have put on one pound or looks any better taking command, can’t keep playing the lad with this issue he has to get it sorted

  151. matt says:

kungfoocantona, will you now admit you were totally wrong about carrick and also that your a cunt?
