CONFIRMED: Manchester United’s New #7 Is…

Antonio Valencia.

With Michael Owen released, the number 7 shirt was up for grabs, and has rightly gone to our right winger who had such an impressive season. Having won the players’ and fans’ player of the season, as well as our goal for the season, he seemed like an obvious choice.

Nick Powell will wear 25 and Shinji Kagawa will wear 26.

Sorry, I meant 3 years ago.

  7. Zibbie says:

    Tony 7 well done lad.

  8. TK99 says:

Totally deserves that…a fantastic player..Hope we could get one left back( not Baines) and Modric or Moutinho .

  9. Fred says:

Kagawa gets the iconic #26, previously worn with distinction by United greats Obertan, Manucho and Taibi. :)

  10. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Wow a post from Zibbie that doesn;t include the name Rooney. surprise surprise.

Whjy do you feel the need to bring a Rooney Berba debate into everyhting? You’re a total cunt. And sly digs at that.

You’re not even a proper supporter. There’s people from other parts around the world who get it, the clubs history what it means to wear the shirt and you fucking don’t.

You just swithced on the TV saw Wayne and had yourself an orgasm contribute nothing other than your hard ons for Rooney. If he leaves I’m sure you’ll follow him to anotther club. Typical arrogant know it all from across the pond.

You’re a fucking cunt Zibbie. Die slow.

    Duncan Edwards
    George Best
    Bryan Robson
    Eric Cantona
    David Beckham
    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Michael Owen

    and now

    Antonio Valencia AV7 7ony V!

    Well done Tony!

  12. Toby Lee says:

    hahah wtf

  13. Costas says:

    @Fletch

One name on that list doesn’t seem right. That Robson was a flop wasn’t he?

  14. Mikekelly12 says:

    NRD
    Have I missed something??
    7ony V… Proper right winger!!

  15. FletchTHEMAN says:

Kagawa has picked the #26 according to Nick Coppack

  16. Cyril Sneer says:

Will be nice to see the number 7 running down the right wing again :)

Haven’t bought a shirt for a while but I’m very tempted to get myself a Kagawa shirt for some serious gingham winnage. It doesn’t look too bad ‘in person’, way better than in the pictures.

  17. WillieRedNut says:

I thought Kagawa would get the number 69 shirt, considering his woman is a porn star. 8) Well done Tony v!

  18. ididnotzeeit says:

Congrats Tony and well deserved lad. Here’s to a healthy season for our Ecuadorian.

It comes as no surprise our best run of form last season came with Rafael and Tony V holding down the right flank. May we be blessed to see you both terrorizing full backs and keeping the Bale’s and Co of the premierleague firmly tucked in your back pockets!

  19. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Mikekelly – Just Zibbie acting like a trolling cunt everytime I mention Berba. On me iphone at the moment so on one of the other threads someone mentioned something about him. Read about him leaving this morning so wanted to know what was going on.

Then cunt monkey goes on his usual tirade of Rooney Rooney Rooney. And how all Berba lovers must die. No fucking need really its been going on for a while tip to nip it in the bid once and for all.

  20. Costas says:

I remember suggesting this when Ronaldo left, but Fletcher would have also made a very good number 7. It doesn’t have to be a winger everytime as Robson proved and when it comes to bleeding red, Fletch was as good a choice as any. Pity he didn’t get to wear it after Ronaldo left. Of course, now there’s no chance of that happening for a number of reasons, but TC or Powell hopefully will wear it someday..

  21. Costas says:

That being said, I’ve missed watching a United “7″ shirt in action in recent years (sadly Owen played a bit part role), so it will be great seeing a player wearing it week in week out.

NRD here I am cuntman take it to another thread fuck head!

  24. Zibbie says:

    GO MAN UTD !!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Mikekelly12 says:

    NRD
Fair enough pal. No need to slate United players or their supporters. Berba’s a red and has behaved with real integrity during his time at United. Some people love him, some are frustrated by him but he’s a red and he gets my support. Some people have strong opinions on Rooney too! I think he’s a cunt personally but right now he’s playing for United and he’s a world class player on his day so we live with it but no need to go on a verbal tirade or slate his fans.

  26. FletchTHEMAN says:

Kagawa gets his United.com player page!

    ShinjiKagawa No. 26

    http://www.manutd.com/en/Players-And-Staff/First-Team/Shinji-Kagawa.aspx

    Others: Nick Powell.

Surprises: Pogba still has his page and No 42. Hmmmmmm

  27. Zibbie says:

    NRD you clueless twat.

  28. Zibbie says:

Mike I give Berba his due.

  29. NotoriousRedDevil says:

What exactly is your issue. Here I am? No need for any of your cryptic shit anymore. If you have such a problem with ROM readers and how we all should die because we mention players that play for Manchester United then just go away and die in a corner somewhere?

For you to come on here and slag people off who have different views to you Rooney man love and players that play for this club makes you a total cunt and an embarrassment to be associated with United.

  30. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Costas 17:31

Well said mate. If only! Snifff :(

  31. Zibbie says:

That is my slant. 300 threads taken over by the Berba ? in the last year. When people build their case for Berba they somtimes slam other Man Utd players.
    Thanks Berba, by.

Rooney is still a Man Utd player.

  32. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Zibbie- The hell you fucking did you lying piece of shit. Just slagged him off.

The other day can;t remember who it was there was a discussion about Hazard and the way Berba left Spurs (Thats Tottenham Hotspurs who play football aka soccer not San Antonio Spus) and you turned that into Rooney vs Berba when we were on about how Spurs fans hate him for leaving.

You do it all the time sly fucking digs. Its boring.

  33. The Scottish Wonder says:

I think the big question is who will wear the number 8 and 9, if anyone…

I really hope Anderson stays, but sadly Berbatov is most likely leaving. Maybe Welbeck will get the #9.

The number 2 is also up for grabs, Rafael? Baines? or just unused like last year.

  34. Costas says:

    @Fred

As I just found out, other players that wore 26 were Danny Pugh, Mark Wilson (I think he once started a Ch.League against Croatia Zagreb, lol), Chris Casper and Phil Bardsley.

So he has a tough challenge ahead. Will the pressure of wearing Bardsley’s shirt get to him? :D

  35. Zibbie says:

If supporting Man Utd’s best player makes me a cunt, then I am a cunt.

  36. Costas says:

    @The Scottish Wonder

Yep, some other first XI numbers still up for grabs. I feel that Ando will still wear 8 as long as he stays (which he probably will). As for the rest, Welbeck and Rafa would be my 2 picks for 9 and 2 respectively. I truly hope someone picks these numbers because when they are vacant, it feels like no one can fill the predecessor’s shoes.

    @Fletch

Indeed mate. Regarding Pogba, I don’t think Juve have announced his signing yet have they? So the soap opera may be still alive.

  37. Fred says:

Costas – Fletcher was my pick for the number 7 shirt too, a la Robson. He used to wear 7 for Scotland. Parky was another shout of mine. Nani and Valencia would have made fine #7s too. I suppose Owen was following in the great tradition of Scouse strikers wearing 7, after Dalglish and Keegan. What this had to do with Manchester United is anyone’s guess though.

  38. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Mikekelly – I feel the same way about Rooney. He is a cunt there’s no two ways about that. He’s a United player and a brilliant footballer. Got no issue with him being at United nor starting ahead of other players.

@ Zibbie- Saying your goodbyes to a player that hasn’t left yet make you a disrespectful prick. Respect the club, the shirt and those who play in it or fuck off. You support the team not the player. If you don’t get that you don’t get Football. (Note: Said football not soccer)

Enough of this shit. Got better things to do than argue with a flash in the pan fan from across the pond. Laters ROM

Nice one Tony V on getting Number 7.

  39. AnomanderRake says:

    @Zibbie

    IMHO:

Rooney is NOT United’s best player.

  40. Fred says:

Never liked the numbers 13, 17, 25, 27, 29 or any number above that for a footballer tbh.

  41. Sandeep1878 says:

    wow..

    wonderful..

the lad has character, attitude to wear the number 7..

he may not have as many skills as the previous number 7s but i m sure this will bring the best outta him and on road to becoming a legend..

    ###

Is Nani staying? ;) ….Hope so..

  42. Fred says:

Fucking hope so Sandy. Would be absolutely gutted if we lost Nani. :(

  43. Sandeep1878 says:

    Evening reds around the world,

The whole of Ecuador must have erupted after this news :)

  44. Mikekelly12 says:

    Cyril
I agree mate, the gingham check a lot better in the flesh. A bit of a grower I think. Confused about our away kit? I’ve seen reports of a gingham shirt but in blue and also reports of a completely different White shirt. Any ideas? Used to buy all the shirts when I was younger but then never bothered for about 18 years. Then my mrs bought me the one 2 seasons back with the black V (lost the league) and last year I bought one pissed up on the way back from town after a stag afternoon (lost the league) So don’t think I’ll bother this year!!

  45. Utd4life says:

Congratulations Tony V!!!! You have earned it lad. It is nice to see a proper, hardworking, humble Red get the iconic #7 shirt. I am sure this will spur Valencia to greater heights of glory.

  46. Fred says:

    Squad numbers I have a strange affinity for: 3, 4, 14, 22, 24.

Mike – the white is the real thing. Here’s a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkfeqfsuuhk The leaked blue gingham shirt is thought to be a goalkeeper shirt.

  47. Sandeep1878 says:

    Fred,

I too hope so pal coz Nani statements have been a bit bizarre, gives a feeling something is cooking..

but lets hope we will have a deal very soon..

    ###

    by the way,

heard that Rafael will be around 50K bracket per week..

2 million a month, a massive 24 million a year, minus around 5 mil taxes, plus the popularity and respect like no other club offers..

even a man with half brain will know that, but some trash bags dont ;)

    ###

    Sir Alex,

well he looks like wants to keep Berba..

    is this an U turn?

are we giving him games, get goals and sell him in January? by that time hope Keane will be all right?

    my view is this,

we will NOT be signing any more striker this season, however i can sense there will be 1 or 2 signings yet to happen, but not a striker,

for good or bad, Berbatov will stay!!

and i m really happy that he will stay!!

  48. FletchTHEMAN says:

Stewart Gardner ‏ takes his shot at humor:

Kagawa is the new number 26, following in footsteps of Obertan and Manucho…

  49. Saad says:

The V7 engine of our offense. All the best, Tony!

  50. Cyril Sneer says:

Mike – I’m not sure what’s going on with the away kit either. Nobody seems to have it in stock, I’ve only seen the home shirt. I actually had a look inside and there’s nothing on the back of the badge. We had ‘relentless’ last year. There’s something about being ‘forged in industry’ inside the neck at the back.

    Seriously thinking about getting one…

  51. Cyril Sneer says:

Just seen Fred’s post. Think it would be the red one for me.

  52. Sandeep1878 says:

    M19ke,

    how are you my friend?

been a long long time..hope all is well..

    ##

    Saad,

    thats more like it pal,

AV7 sounds more like engine specification :) and he is indeed an engine, a beasty one :)

    ###

fact that Tony V requested the number 7 goes on to show how determined and confident the lad is..

    come on AV7..

  53. Sandeep1878 says:

    FTM,

come end of the season, Gardner and we all will know that he was a retard :P

  54. Mikekelly12 says:

    Fred
That’s s relief. Quite like the look of the White kit.
    Sandeep
How ya doing pal? AS in Spain are saying Llorente is a high priority for United? Where do they get their info from?! I thought AS used to be a respectable source in Spain?!

  55. Fred says:

Sounds like Stewart Gardner reads my posts. You’re a shite commentator tbf Stew.

More of this please, Tono: http://www.soccerclips.net/videos/blackburn-0-1-man-united-valencia1

  58. Sandeep1878 says:

    M19ke,

    all is well pal,

yup surprised by AS News…and they also we tried to sign him last year?

just paper talk or something more to it?

    ###

    by the way,

    Che Cedara, Fred, Costas,

the moment we all have been waiting for,

its that time of the year when,

JULIO CESAR is linked to United YET AGAIN!!!

bit surprised that it took them so long

    :P :) ;)

  59. ji sung says:

Wow Fergie just proper slated Pogba on MUTV. Love it! Fuck him right off! Goodbye and goodluck fella.

  60. Zino says:

Sandy, how does 50k weekly transform into 2mill a month? Lol

  61. WillieRedNut says:

*in* Fucking hell, I’m getting as bad as Cedara.

  62. CedarsDevil says:

    Drifting away

  63. ji sung says:

    Stewart Gardner is a legend

  64. keano99 says:

The gaffer on mutv, pogba singed for juventus long ago he showed us no respect and is better of gone. Fuck him

  65. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Sandeep Cheers mate,

    Hope your right.

But it is funny how so many think that a lad picks a number because of the history. Think Kagawa said that he had a number in mind that had personal meaning, as opposed to club meaning.

Imagining little Stewie Gardner having trouble in preschool trying to hammer the round pegs in the square holes. ;)

  66. Mikekelly12 says:

@stevenwyeth: Paul Pogba is now a Juventus player as far as #MUFC manager Sir Alex Ferguson is concerned, he tells MUTV

  67. kanchelskis says:

Shit. Fergie’s just laid into Pogba!

  68. Mikekelly12 says:

@AdamSMarshall: Sir Alex to MUTV: “Paul Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we’re aware. I don’t think he showed us any respect at all ” he also says he is yet to here from Zeki Freyers or his agent!

  69. FletchTHEMAN says:

    ji sung:

Missed it. Do tell! What did Fergie say about Poggers??

  70. Arjunited says:

Thank fuck! Pogba can rightly fuck off!
“I don’t think he showed us any respect at all!” is such a strong statement!

  71. Lee Martins Winner says:

In an ideal world I would like to have seen Nani sign a new contract and take the number 7 shirt. This is bacause I have always looked at this shirt as “a bit special”. now dont get me wrong, I am not saying that Tony V is not talented and a very good player. His attitude is great and provides good service.

I think Nani has the ability to be that special talent and with consistancy could be up there with the 40 / 50 million pound superstarts of the game.

  72. WillieRedNut says:

    Breaking transfer news!

Nuno Gomes has signed for Blackburn. 8)

  73. CedarsDevil says:

    Nuno who the fuck now?

  74. Sandeep1878 says:

    jI SUNG,

    YEAH THATS right pal..

Sir Alex to MUTV: “Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we’re aware. I don’t think he showed us any respect at all ”

    ##

as i have been telling from long ago, Tunni to stick coupla in Pogba’s arse..

  75. Mikekelly12 says:

    Wille
Is that Nuno the underpants Gnomes???

  76. Mikekelly12 says:

Fuck You for fuck all Pogba, fuck you!!!

  77. CedarsDevil says:

    Thank you for that Mike

  78. Sandeep1878 says:

    Zino,

    my bad,

    FTM,

    lets hope so pal..

    ###

good night reds around the world..

keep it RED and keep it UNITED!!

  79. Mikekelly12 says:

    Cedars
You are most welcome my friend. Just watching Wimbledon. Sounds a lot like The Etihad!!

  80. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Just caught up.
Fergie ‘ As far as I know, Pogba signed with Juventus a long time ago ‘

So long Poggers, hope you enjoy getting rasist taunts while you are off on loan in Serie B.

But honestly, really poor from Pogba and Mino Raiola.

  81. WillieRedNut says:

    Whats upset young Michael?

  82. Jumping Jesus says:

Good choice. Great Player, well worthy of the shirt

  83. TheresonlyonePAUL says:

    strong statement from fergie

it’s a shame Pogba turned out to be a right CUNT cause he is an unbelievable talent, and in the area we want/need new faces

call me a cunt but i hope he fucking flops at juve, such a silly move for so many reasons, kind of bewildering

anyway goodbye paul break a leg son

  84. Cyril Sneer says:

At last! I’ve been waiting months to call him a Pogbastard. Just waiting for Scott to post the official “fuck off Pogba” thread.

Andy Townsend always pronounces Nuno Gomes as Nuno Gomesh….

  85. WillieRedNut says:

    Jumping Jesus! Spot on.

  86. Lee Martins Winner says:

Andy Townsend always pronounces Nuno Gomes as Nuno Gomesh….

Andy townsend, now there is a worldclass prick!

  87. PeteyRedRed says:

AV7 sounds awesome. Get in tony you beasty Jermaine Jackson looking powerhouse!!!

  88. CedarsDevil says:

Townsend cannot even pronounce his own name correctly, big nosed cockney wanna be ugly cunt

  89. KeanosMagicHat says:

I’m going to go against the common opinion here it seems. For the last 50 years the #7 shirt has been associated with our top flair players, Best, Cantona, Beckham & Ronaldo. The exceptions of course are Bryan Robson, who wore the number as an inspirational leader and Michael Owen who, whilst he worked hard whilst on the pitch, should not have been given the number in the first place in my opinion. There is no one at this point in the current squad who I feel truly deserves the #7 shirt. I hope we develop, or sign, that, “edge of your seat” talent soon.

  90. Manc Harvin says:

    AMAZING BUT TRUE:

Antonio Valencia will become the 10th player to wear the No 7 shirt for United since the Premier League started in August 1992. The other 9 are:-
Andrei Kanchelskis, Dion Dublin, Danny Wallace, Clayton Blackmore, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo & Michael Owen.

Squad numbers didn’t come into force until the start of the 1993/94 season, when Eric took the shirt.

  91. FletchTHEMAN says:

Something is really really off in the Reserves

Pogba off, Morrison off, Fryers off,

Sam Johnston and Petrucci off still not signed and contracts expired July 1.

Someone needs to go down to Carrington and sort things out.

  92. mancdub says:

    Nice one Tony
    Fuck off Pogbastard

  93. Mikekelly12 says:

    KeanosMagicHat
The number 7 shirt was always worn by our right wingers, never really flair players! That just came about through coincidence.

  94. King Eric says:

Great choice . Nice one Tony.

Cyril – Ha. Alot call him Gomesh. It fucks me off.

Stewart Gardner is quality. Him and Paddy should do stand up.

  95. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

Big congrats to him. Hope this new number pushes him to do even greater things in the future. I personally thought this was reserved for Nani but hey I’d take this too.

  96. TheresonlyonePAUL says:

    @FletchTHEMAN
Totally agree, something cant be right

Heard “rumors” that some players don’t particularly like Warren Joyce

Could be BS but this time last year who would have guessed we’d potentially (zeki not confirmed) lose 3 our most promising young players

  97. KingOfStretfordEnd says:

Freaking awesome, and I knew it!

  98. Bishopville Red says:

    Tony VII. Proper.

  103. wayne says:

Tony V is a top lad love watching him play, although he’s not flashy one of the best wingers in the world and when in form makes Utd a much better team.Loves the club fucked his agent off for talikng shit about Tony V maybe wanting a move, deserve’s the number 7 think he’s going to be at the club for a long time

  104. Red Darule says:

    Fuck Pogba, viva AV7…nuff said

  105. KeanosMagicHat says:

@ Mikekelly12 – the only right wingers on that list are Beckham and Ronaldo and the latter tended to have more of a free role.

For the first time since I started watching United (a long time ago now) we have very few flair players near the starting 11. Only Nani could be considered one as he can continually come up with the unexpected.

We’ll see whether Kagawa delivers on his potential to excite.

Just to be clear, I don’t begrudge Tony the shirt as he is one of our most dedicated and hard-working players, but when I think United I think attacking flair, the excitement of the unexpected etc and that is the sort of player I like to see wearing number 7.

  106. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Antonio Valencia just tweeted:

    Antonio Valencia ‏@AntoV25
Tomo el 7 con mucha humildad. Trabajare muy fuerte. Gracias a Dios, a mi familia, al equipo y a ustedes por confiar en mi. #todossomos7

    Translation:
I take the #7 w/ much humility. It will make me work very hard. Thanks to god, my family, the team, and to all of you for your confidence in me. We are all #7s

  107. wayne says:

Keano i watched Bestie so by your theory should have just retired the shirt when he left.lol.Tony V is a lot more than hardworking and dedicated,on his day he’s unstoppable, his speed and power and quick thinking is just as exciting as watching a flare player at work and as effective, much more than hardworking mate imo

  108. Gorse Hill Red says:

The number 7 running down the right wing; will remind me of Steve Coppell when I was a young lad. That 76 side should have won the league I tells yer.

  109. RedMist says:

Petrucci has signed…it was announced a few weeks ago.
He was on Manutd.com buzzing about signing on for us.

  110. KeanosMagicHat says:

@ Wayne – Tony is actually one of my favourite players as he is extremely consistent at what he does and very driven. Apparently he asked for the #7 shirt too which shows some balls.

Good luck to the lad, he already showed his commitment to United by dumping his agent when the agent was angling for a move away, which I’ve never heard of any player doing.

Having said that, I wouldn’t want to watch a United team over an extended period of time which had next to no flair, that I’m sure we can agree on.

  111. Mick Martin says:

    Gentlemen
I think we all agree Berba has acted with pure class both on and off the pitch.
From missing out on the final to being 3/4 in the pecking order after being our leading goal scorer.

So i find it impossible to be anything other than a huge fan, but more for his undoubted football ability. That we first saw in Leverkusen the night Veron jumped out of a 50:50 and suffred the wrath of Keano.

I loved Rooney when he first came, played with a boyish love of the game , he changed not sure if it was Stratford or just greed, but he changed. He on occasions reminds us all what a genius he can be and his performances for United and commitment remain first class. My only criticism would be, we lost the league not because of Everton or Wigan , but losing at home to Blackburn. he didn’t play that day has he was banished for turning up to training the worst for wear after being on the lash with Evans.
As a “pro” on £250k a week he should be ashamed of letting United down.

He needs our love, support and adoration, but if he let’s us down once more with poor off field behaviour i say ” go, go out that door , don’t turn around now you’re not welcome anymore.

I hope he sees the huge error of last season and makes up for it this season.
