CSKA vs United: Twins vs Twins

Twins vs twins

You would think having identical twins playing mirrored positions of right back and left back was fairly unique, as is the case with our Brazilians Rafael and Fabio da Silva. CSKA Moscow are giving us a run for our money though with their identical full back twins, Aleksei and Vasili Berezutski.

The 27-year-olds signed for CSKA Moscow in 2002, and whilst Vasili has more International caps, Aleksei has played more for his club.

The battle of the twins :)

If they were as good as our twins they’d be Brazilian and Manchester united players

i give the russians credit though
they sure did pick some ugly twins

  6. Long John O'Shea says:

has this ever happened before? 2 sets of twins playing against each other in the same positions?

The ref will find this confusing. Morning all. Sorry to go off topic but who the fuck is Derek McGovern? Just have a look at the article and tell me how the fuck this kind of shite is allowed to be printed. ABU cunt. Isn’t it this twat who tipped the dippers for the title a few weeks back? Making out that Fergie ain’t been to Moscow since the 90′s. What about 2008 European Cup Final you prick. Sorry to bang on but sick to death of the gutter press and media making out that we are struggling. We have been beaten just once all season and unbeaten in 10 or 11 games.

Can someone please pronounce their names?

  11. aig alex is god says:

all i know is one of them scored in their UEFA cup fian win over Sporting Lisbon. But they play for Russia so they must be good enough to impress Guss Hiddink which is not an easy task.Neither is it easy to play on the flanks with Andrey Arshavin and Yuri Ahirko in front of you.so they must be good

  12. Long John O'Shea says:

Hi King Eric.. Why get wound up over that rag that is not fit for you to even wipe your arse with? the mirror is what dippers read while they are queing to get their dole money..

  13. aig alex is god says:

derek mcgovern talks as if he was zinedine zidane or pele.it is easy to keep your fatass on the chair and criticize and slag players.when you get on the pitch you realise how difficult it is to play the game and how easy it is to slag players.how good a player was he or hsa the mirror got him jus to slag people.

  14. Shreyas says:

Its imperative that Vidic starts today, whoever the other centre back be, Evans or Rio. His experience playing on that plastic pitch for Spartak will help collectively help the back five.

  15. DuudeLove says:

Our twins are more identical than theirs are!

  16. Gudjohnsen says:

    My prediction:
    Edwin
    O’Shea – Vidic – Evans – Fabio
    Valencia – Scholes – Carrick – Nani
    Berbatov – Owen

I assume he wants to rest Rio to keep him fresh for the Sunday game. I just hope Evra, Giggs and Rooney will be able to play that game.

  17. ScottLeRouge says:

    Those Russians are vile looking.

  18. aig alex is god says:

    @Gudjohnsen

Berba needs a rest if he is going to start on Sunday.he ahs had a very tiring last couple of weeks although it is not reflecting in his performance.he is looking in great touch but i dont want him tited just 2 months in the season because along with giggsy he is the best player in the team at the moment.

  19. aig alex is god says:

    *tired*

  20. irsh red says:

god those russian lads are ugly

  21. aig alex is god says:

BTW.happy birthday to Nemanja VIdic.he turns 28 today and has been immense for us in the last 3 years.absolute rock in the defence.Best CB in the world alst season.sure he will get back to his no nonsese best very soon.

  22. Mic says:

I used to be a big fan of the Russian twins, the left back is the better of the two imo. I don’t think they ever fulfilled their potential, let’s hope we’re not saying the same about the twins at our club!! I hope we play a weak side in Russia, i’d settle for a loss if it meant having a none jet lagged team against the vermin come Sunday! The bastards play at home then have 5 days to rest before we come. Fucking joke!

just wondering if you’d check out emilys paul pogba

  24. Tom F says:

King Eric, that twat is no journo, he has a small column which people only read out of disintrest in everything else.in the Mirror.

He tries to cram wit, knowledge and tips all on to the 300 or so words he has to use and does a pretty cringe worthy job of it – the man is a total arse.

As for the team tonight, do the people on here REALLY want Nani to start? I don’t mind him playing at Old Trafford, but don’t fancy him away in Europe!

We need energy and drive so a midfield of Park, Scholes, Fletcher and Valencia would suit me. The back four picks itself if you assume O’shea will start over a rested Neville and Berbatov will hopefully be ok and join Owen up top.

Oh and three cheers to 17:30 kick off times.. for those who aren’t working today at the very least!

  25. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Tom F
    Id like nani to play
Id like him to play against liverppol with valencia on the wings
fletcher and park and giggs are out of tonights game with rooney and evra

  26. aig alex is god says:

    Scott

Doing the Live Blog for tonight’s game? remember what you said we have never lost a game when you have done trhe live Blog. The dippers game is more important though.

  27. King Eric says:

Tom F – Spot on about that clueless twat McGovern. Shouldn’t let him wind me up. Park and Fletcher haven’t travelled have they?

  28. red rossa says:

17:30 kick off is a lifesaver wen you have work at half 7 :)

  29. sam the kenyan red says:

the kick-off time has really fallen into my favour cheers for that… besides i can’t wait to see the lads working out at the luzhinski stadium.. we should really feel at home dont you think so guys??!!

after looking at obertan perfomance for the reserves(and on youtube) i think we should give him the chance maybe at anfield?? i mean we could do with some little tricks down the right!!

  30. denton davey says:

Mic @ 12:52 – it’s not a long flight nor does the Moscow-trip mean a radical change in time-zones PLUS there will be four days before the match at An=Failed so there’s little chance of “jet lag”.

I’ve quit trying to “predict” SAF’s team-sheets but I’m still fool enough to try to “predict” his tactics: tonight he will go into that game looking NOT to lose; a draw would be very good and a smash-and-grab win would be even better.

  31. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

Love the kickoff time, I can see it early.

I will settle for a 2-1 win here to be honest. Then we bring our A game to the dippers and crush them, hopes, dreams and all.

  32. rooninho says:

might mess with obertan’s confidence if he debuts and struggles at anfield. but can’t wait to see him in there. incredible pace, skill, and dribbling ability! 2 questions: did he travel to moscow, and is he a finisher? haven’t seen much goal scoring evidence yet.

like to see owen saved for sunday. sir alex talked up the every 10 days policy for mickey o in preseason. would rather see him at full strength for the dippers. let wellbeck get some cl experience.

it’s funny that a scouse blogg can take up to 24 hours to update after a defeat!!( some lame exuses there as to why they are strrugling)…the editor there jamie kanwar get slugged almost daily by the so called “fans” that it keeps me wondering why do they fucking log in??

  35. Jack says:

    happy birthday nemanja..

  36. themufc1999 says:

The day giggs joined united is the day the da silvas were born.

  37. bigphil2003 says:

Sorry guys but Obertan starting his debut at Anfield is a bigger joke than Liverpool’s title hopes.

  38. Shurik says:

Well, Berezutski brothers are a lot bit bigger than out twins. But in case of technics it is absolutely obvius that da silvas have more to show to the crowd.
And I think Berezutski brothers have lack of pace, which means that for Mickey or someone else fast up in front there won’t be a big deal to go through them.

But twins from CSKA have expirience that might be vital in such games.

By the way, Vidic said he hopes Spartak Moscow fans will support us, because CSKA are their biggest rivals. It means that with our travelling fans it will be almost half of the stadium on our side :)

There are a lot of United fans in Russia. Me for example!

  39. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    rooninho
    check evras debut

  40. rooninho says:

definitely no obertan debut at anfield! just saying can’t wait for him to make his full debut sometime soon. maybe against barnsley in the carling cup on tuesday. i want experienced killers out for blood on sunday!!!!

  41. theboogeyman says:

    I can’t wait for Sunday anymore…
    Happy birthday Nemanja!

I’m happy about the match kicking off at 17:30 BST because it means it starts here at 10:00 pm and ends by 11:45,meaning I can watch it live, instead of having to wait till the repeat telecast tomorrow.

  42. Rob the Red says:

  43. rooninho says:

    @ghtt

early obertan comment was just a response to earlier kenyanred suggestion to bring on obertan at anfield. was trying to say he should not play on sunday because it might mess up his confidence with a poor performance in such a massive game, for example evra’s debut, which spoiled his first few months at united.

btw- patrice evra is god and my hero, but did anyone rate him after his debut? thank goodness he turned it around. brilliant upgrade from the crocked original argie backstabber (aka- he who shall not be named part 1)!

  44. Rob the Red says:

    What’s fat red and round
    And wobbles on the ground
do you know do you know?

    What’s fat red and round
    And wobbles on the ground
Have the dippers got a clue?

@Rob the Red : i thought it was the beach ball, lol

  46. jespermoses says:

A wee draw and the players to come back un-scathed tonight. Then roll on Sunday,i cant wait!!

  47. Jack says:

van der sar, neville ferdiand vidic fabio, oshea anderson scholes, valenica berbatov nani……….up the champssssss

  48. Costas says:

Jack beat me to the line up.Is this any indication of the team Fergie will put out on Sunday? I think Carrick,Fletch,Evra,Giggs and Rooney will all start in that game. But the question is, will Owen start instead of Berba for that one? Also, will Valencia start instead of Nani?

  49. Supatrice says:

will look like Mikey rourke chasing a poodle if they play tonight

  50. Mahesh says:

Line up looks strange to me. Its telling me two major things, assuming tonight’s line up will affect the weekend’s:

    a) Berba might not start in the weekend – leaving him up as a lone striker means he’s going to be working that much harder, will get more tired, and therefore less fit for the weekend. I’m not sure I’m pleased that mean. But it means that either Rooney will play up all on his own and we’ll pack the midfield, or owen will start with Rooney up front. In either case, I would rather have had Berba start against liverpool given their recent defensive fragilities. Not that he’s great in the air, but he is bigger than the other two.

    b) Scholes WILL not start over the weekend, and its likely to be Fletch and Carrick. Fletch HAS TO be there, because he will provide the toughness, and SAF has basically gone with Carrick/Ando over Scholes. I don’t think that’s a bad idea. It might deny us some brilliance going forward but will provide more solidity to the midfield – and also in a game such as this, I wouldn’t want the element of concern that Scholesey’s tacking introduces.

  51. Sketch says:

    TEAM NEWS
Man Utd: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Fabio Da Silva, O’Shea, Valencia, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, Berbatov.
Subs: Kuszczak, Brown, Owen, Carrick, Welbeck, Jonathan Evans, Macheda. Is

Fabio going to play on the left-wing?

  52. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

jamie rednapp said benayoun is liverpools genius
and blames liverpool being shit on the english team not wrapping stevie me in cotton wool
    what crap
anyway the owen and carrick on the bench thing has my worried mind going that fletcher and Rooney might’nt be ready for sunday

  53. aig alex is god says:

    sketch

think o shea will play in midfield in the holding role.nani and valencia will bomb forward and andow ill play more as a CAM

  54. Sketch says:

    aig alex is god
Oo. Okay. Berba and Nani upfront? Interesting.
Will Rooney miss the Liverpool game?
    Come On United!!

  55. Costas says:

I think it’s a 4-3-3.In Turkey it didn’t work out so well. I think though that SAF is really contemplating starting Owen at Anfield. What a story that could be…

  56. Nick says:

Quite similar to the Klitschko twins ;)

  57. Jack says:

get anderson off the bloody pitch, his passed more to them than he has his own team mates and his free kicks are awful so far….nani and fabio have been brilliant in the first half down the left but final ball aint been that good, berbatov getting annoyed i think not getting no good devliers in so got nothing 2 work with

  58. King Eric says:

Costas – Hi mate. He may well go with Fletch on the right, Carrick and Ando in the middle and Giggs out left a la Spurs save for Scholes. Would prefer pace down the flank though. I really do think he will start with Rooney and Owen after seeing tonight’s line up.

  59. King Eric says:

Gotta hate – I am sure Rooney and Fletch will start pal.

  60. Tom F says:

Apologies for my last comment, I started writing with tonights game in mind then while predicting a team my mind wondered off to the game at anfield… the team I mentioned wad for the liverpool game… but swap Owen for Wayne…

    :)

  61. Rajiv Toolaseeram says:

I believe rafael is out injured; so no battle of the twins is expected!

  62. opy says:

thats my team i will cheer it today more than ever
