Rafael and Fabio Da Silva stand to have good careers at United, with the Brazilian full-backs impressing despite their limited playing time with the club. Sir Alex Ferguson is already raving about their quality and with limited options as cover, it appears as though we will be seeing more of these twins than we might have anticipated a few months ago.
Like Gary and Phil Neville before them, these two play as left and right sided defenders, possessing the attacking ability and speed of Patrice Evra.
With Danny Simpson loaned to Blackburn, we are certain to see several matches with them starting on the bench, and I believe we are right to hold such expectations of them.
What do you make of the Da Silva twins so far?
Brazilian Nevilles?

Man Utd News 24/7

I like bth of them. and sompson loks good too. may be simpson will play a defender and the twins as midfielders?
It’s great to have these 2 lads to cover at the back. This twin look very promising to me. They are quick skillful, and love to go forward which should suit the style of our attacking play. However, for the first team, they both may need more time to adapt and gain more experience.
The most urgent for us is to sign a top class striker. For me, Rooney is no longer a top class striker anymore. Let’s face the fact that presently, Rooney seems doesn’t know what he should do most on the pitch which is scoring goals. His scoring rate is too low for playing regulary at a great club like Manchester United. Last season we won the title mainly because of the terrific form of Ronaldo (42 goals). For me, Rooney today seems to enjoy dropping back and made a hard tackle which will eventually end up with yellow cards. And with the absence of Ronaldo will continue for at least 8 more weeks, signing another real top class striker is a MUST now.
In my opinion these guys are two of the most exciting players at our club. They remind me of when Ronaldo, Anderson and Nani first came to the club and every time they get the ball you expect something exciting to happen. There’s no doubt they are more attack minded than the Nevilles were in their day, they seem to have great positioning and the really good thing is that they aren’t scared to scrap for a ball either.
R’s game against Posh was the stand out but F’s goal against Northwich was something special, even if the defending by them was awful.
I am hoping they make a decent number of bench appearances and would be happy to see Fergie give them decent minutes on the pitch when we are doing well (beating comfortably) against other teams. I think they will be used in the League Cup games too which is something to look forward to.
About Rooney, does anybody ever give the guy a break?
The amount of time he spent out injured last season and the fact that his pre-season was ruined this year seems to slip by the media and some of the more disgruntled sections of our support.
Rooney still has it, you don’t lose the technique that he has. The wonder goals he has scored for us in the past weren’t form or luck, it was natural ability. The goals he scored agaisnt Roma, Villa, Reading?, New’astle, even Chelsea show his finishing technique hasn’t deserted him.
He’s always been one to get frustrated over the smallest things and that won’t change. The way our team play has changed, not Rooney so maybe that’s where it comes from. I do expect him to have a great season this year and while David James will be happy that Ronaldo is injured on Monday, I am hoping Wayne can do some damage himself.
I think that it is a great thing to have these two gritty little attacking fullbacks coming through. They have come at the right time as Gary Neville reaches his twilight years and Silvestre moves on and will start their careers as cover players before no doubt establishing theirselves as first choices in a few years. If we also can hold on to Johnny Evans then the future of our defence looks assured
The funniest thing about these two is that everyone is raving about Rafael, yet in Brazil Fabio is higher rated, he is the Under 17′s captain and was top scorer at the last tournament. He plays more left wing that left back.
We owe les Kershaw big on these two, they are going to be superstars. The future is so bright on the pitch at United!
I dont think they can be top rated player.
Even better than advertised.
they might be named da silva but they are top gold in my opinion!!
madrid will be sniffing around them soon enuf rest assured!!
The fact that Fergie sold Silvestre shows that he believes in Fabio, who probably won’t play as much as Rafael who only has to compete with a mediocre Wes Brown and an aged Gary Neville. Fabio, on the other hand, has to compete with possibly the best left-back in the world.
the future of man united defence is bright after grabing the brazilian twins.the maneger should give them more time on pitch as cover for our aging GARRY NEVILE.and with the depature of slivester to the gunners then the room is widely open for the twins.
special thanks goes to the united scouts for doing a good job of bring the twis to old trafold.the way i see them they are similar to ROBERTAL CAROS NI TEARM Space and attack.just give the time you will witness the new caros of the former REAL MADRID.
Yeah, great observation there PeeJay, the “mediocre” wes brown who has won the champions league twice. He sure was mediocre against Barca when he was switched into CB against one of the best attacking sides in Europe. And he scored against the twats, surely that should get him some respect from his fans?
Looking forward to seeing more of them this season. Rafael’s great run against the barcodes almost won us a penalty – great confidence from the lad. Here’s something of interest for you Scott the Red….did you know the last two players we had signed from Tottenham won the European Cup with United in their second season?? well you probably know that anyway!
I hope to see more of them when Carling Cup starts, they looks really impressive already and I’ve never heard Fergie in a long time get school-giddy about a new player like he did over Rafael.
And Man U talks nonsense yet again….:)
Wes Brown has had an amazing season for his incredibly mediocre standards. Why did Fergie refuse to pay more than £30,000 a week to him, when he wanted £60,000? Because he’s average. If it were up to me Rafael Da Silva would be playing right-back and Fletcher would have been retrained to right-back years ago. Hell, even Hargreaves is a better right back.
They are the future of our fullback spots. They are ideal for Fergie’s style of play, and will provide fantastic attacking options down the flank. Evra is going to be around for a while, but Brown/Neville should make way soon enough. Whe4n they eventually take over, they will give Utd additional flexibility as they can allow the outside midfielders to tuck inside, or even to play a 4-2-2-2-, as they can singlehandedly provide width to the formation. Assuming Ronaldo stays for the long-term, we have one hell of a future team already.
Foster in net, Silva, Rio, Vidic, Silva, Ronaldo, Anderson, Possebon, Nani, Rooney, Tevez. Granted, English won’t be the selected language on the pitch, but who cares?
Well PeeJay, no offense dude, but thank Christ its not up to you then….
@ Peejay, wtf? I agree with ^^^^Thank heavens, its not up to you. I’m as excited about the twins as the next guy, but why would it be a good idea, for us to drop our best RB right now, for Rafael who’s totally unproven? And Fletcher at RB????? Good Lord, i shudder thinking about that.
“We’ve got Fabio, We’ve got Wesley Brown
We’ve got Rafael, Peejay don’y be a clown”
haha @ OTRed, yep MAN U does talk rubbish.
Wesley Brown played more games than any other United player last year and helped keep Uniteds best defence!
Give the lad a break, he has never let us down and always remained loyal.
As for Garry, he’s hardly aged! He was our first choice right back for years until getting injured, and he’s only one year older than he was then mate. Brown and Nev are going to be the ones fighting for the starting position for now, the twins as much as I rate them highly, will have to make do with bit part playing.
Ok, maybe I exaggerated if I said that if it were up to me Rafael would be our first choice right back. But I’d give him 20-25 games at the least.
If players were judged by their loyalty then our starting line-up would certainly included Brown, as well as O’Shea and Fletcher. But, thank God, they’re not. Brown played more games than anybody else last year only because Gary Neville was injured. The fact that Gary Neville is better than him is enough to show you who Wes Brown is. Though I love Gary Neville I can’t deny that he’s just never been bad enough to require replacing and has never been one of our strong points. Wes Brown is, to me, a very mediocre player and indeed Rafael da Silva might be better than him.
Me, I would play Rafael every week even if it means a bit of compromising as Gazza probably still is better. The young lad is the future and I have seen enough of him to know that he’s a player. Playing time can only be good news for the twins, a taste of Manchester United and a taste of English football. What would you lot do? Let Gary Neville and Wes Brown share the RB position and only let Rafael play the Carling Cup and Matchday 5 & 6?
The way we introduced Anderson and Nani was good and I’m hoping the twins get the same treatment.
Also, what you must consider is that we’re not playing with Ronaldo, Giggs or Nani today, meaning Fletcher will probably be on the right. I think Rafael would be better than Gary or Wes with Fletcher involved as he would be our attack on the wings as Fletcher doesn’t really attack.
Wes Brown is neither the past, present or future of Manchester United – he’s a player who has always been a substitute and has always been happy to play whenever needed, fair enough – he stays. He has never been a great player and only played last year because Gary was injured and has hardly been a revelation. I know what it means to watch United and find it hard to criticize but the only thing we can say about Wes was that he didn’t fuck up, that’s it. He wasn’t extraordinary, he was good, like Quinton Fortune, Mikael Silvestre, David May and the list goes on.
PeeJay# i am regretting wasting my precious time reading your pack of nonsense. Do you think that you understand these players better than their master Sir Alex Fergusson? Or you understand soccer better than seasoned managers like Fabio Capello who chose him as his right back over others. These are 2 managers whose record can not be disputed by anyone who knows about soccer.
Wes Brown, keep on our boy.
Allow the Brazilians twins play in the first team and sell off John Oshea and retire Gary N or put him in the reserved.MU must make available for players like Posebon and the twins to play on regular basis and develop their talent.
They are young and will be MU future stars together with players like Anderson,Nani,Ronaldo,Cambell and Rooney. Those under 30 years will make up for the remaining first team players.
Yes, ManU. I agree, the twins and Possebon should play like Anderson and Nani did last year as it seems that injury-wise we’re not going to be any luckier.
