De Gea: Great Privilege To Be At Great Club Like United

At long last, Manchester United have confirmed the signing of David De Gea from Atletico Madrid.

Reports suggest United have forked out £18m for the young keeper, who has just won the U-21 Euro Championships.

“I feel very proud and I can’t wait to start playing here,” De Gea said to MUTV. “When a club the size of Manchester United comes in for you it obviously makes you very, very happy. I saw their interest as an extra motivation to work even harder to show off my ability. It’s a great privilege to be part of a club like United and I’m keen to do my best and show what I can do.”

Welcome to United! Please fill the big Dutch’s boots!

Although I think Lindegaard shows great promise. Who do you reckon will be first choice? Or will SAF rotate them?

  9. Jumping Jesus says:

Top Keeper. We did well to get the future spanish no.1 and a world class goalie at such a young age. He will go on to be a legend for us. £17M or whatever? Fucking bargain

  10. Keyboard Warrior says:

Welcome to the greatest team in the world son…hop u win more trophies than Sir Giggs

  11. Kings says:

Welcome to Manchester United David De Gea.

  12. Zelh says:

    absolute great signing.
even if we knew it for month now, still get excited. did great saves at the U21.

But we should never forget that he’s 20 and not at the end of his carreer like vdS. he’ll make mistakes.

  13. parryheid says:

Whole different ball game to anything you have experienced so far,Hopefully you’ll live up to expectations.

  14. Whatfuckingwhat10 says:

    Finally, welcome David:)

  15. Kings says:

hesselbom – Hello mate. De Gea will be the first choice. Don’t worry about this lad mate, he ticks all the right boxes. He has great distribution with both feet, fantastic reflexes and fantastic movement across his area. He had a catching success rate of 97% last season, which was the best in the league last season. Top drawer mate.

  16. kanchelskis says:

    @hesselbom

Hmm, let me see. The £3.5m keeper, or the £18.9m keeper? Which one do you think will be first choice?

  17. Linvoy says:

Welcome Da Gea…. lets all get behind him…. young guy with big gloves to fill…. will be mistakes but we gotta believe in his abailities and promise!

Been an excellent summer so far in terms of transfers…. all done pretty quick. Jones is an exciting prospect. Young an established premiership player who is pacy and direct. If we can keep hold of Nani and Berba…. and even add a quality midfielder it would be immense!

Can’t wait for Pre-Seasons to begin!!! Hurry up!

  18. TrueStoroy says:

Now go and wrap up Thiago!

  19. BerbaGod says:

Welcome to Manchester United David de Gea!

Can I get a hell yeah?! Love it when we actually confirm the signing, exciting times ahead and I can still see a few more signings coming in!

  20. Alpha_RS says:

Wow this transfer seemed to take forever and ever!
I’m glad he has all signed up now and hopefully he lives up to his reputation and fulfills his potential as a replacement for Van Der Sar for many years to come. Unitil a Spanish team like Barcelona come knocking ofcourse! Ha.

Anyhow no for a central midfielder. Seem to have left this until last but I’m hoping SAF picks up Thiago Alcantara and Samir Nasri. I don’t think SAF will go for Wesley Sneijder or any big name players like that. United make World Class Players. We don’t sign them! Other than Veron from recent memory.

  21. markynorbs says:

    Great news. Great signing.
This kid is a class act and at United he could become the best.
    Nice one Sir.

  22. T4M says:

    welcome lad

  23. redstar says:

glad he has now started calling us united, am sure he has been told to drop sayin manu by the powers that be. welcome big man

  24. Giles Oakley says:

It’s great to see him finally signed up after all the talk. Even nicer is his enthusiasm, his eagerness to get going, just like Phil Jones. With both of them there’s a love of football that shines through and they just can’t wait. Nor can I!

  25. pbul2004 says:

    Get IN!!! Finally! :-)

Now lets get Nasri or Thiago!!!

Immense if we could get CM sorted now!

  26. styy says:

    bargain.

  27. King Eric says:

    Welcome David lad.

redstar – Well you may be right there. I am sure United tell players and everyone connected with United to call us “United” on the clubs station. Not one player calls us Man U, if they do they quickly correct it.

Regards Nasri. Serisouly where will he play? He isnt a central midfielder. Dont want him anywhere near United anyway.

  28. Costas says:

Welcome lad. As I said elsewhere, hopefully he will adapt quickly. But if he doesn’t, I hope fans are patient with him.

Now, I think one more signing is required. And by that, I don’t mean Nasri.

  29. spm says:

Now let’s get that midfilder and bring on barstadlona! Come on united! Can’t wait for new season! I’m very excite.

  30. Zelh says:

I would sign Nasri if we can get him for 8m.
just to sell him 1 year later for lots of money.

Hard to say what Ferguson is going for.

  31. dubzy says:

Class signing, has the potential to be with us 15+ years. Like everyone else I think it’s just CM to sort out now.

Can’t wait to see Liverpool’s midfield next season – Henderson (overpriced and one dimensional) alongside Charlie (moves like a grandad) Adam. “We’ll challenge for the title” – yeah, in your dreams.

  32. James says:

Welcome to the greatest club in the world ! This guy will be another legend in our great club

  33. Ridiclus says:

Great signing and we have the back up of anders if he does make a couple of mistakes.

    OFF TOPIC

Chico is 9/1 to be top goalscorer next season, 9/1 thats huge when you consider that Bruno the ladyboy is 15/2 how is he favourite he cant hit a barn door

Welcome David, best of luck for your first season.

Is this Thiago the new flavour of the week then? What happened to Sneijder, Modric, Nasri, Douglas Costa, Hamsik, Kagawa, Sanchez, Johann Cruyff, Batista, Melissa Joan Hart, Wolverine, Nigella, Shirley Temple, Count Duckula, Veruca Salt and the cast of Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze?

  36. Ridiclus says:

I remember watching that super cup game the fat waiter just sitting their scratching his head didnt know wat to do whie his team was getting walked over

  37. Zelh says:

Cyril – all out of flavour I would say

  38. Norm187 says:

fucking result, we’ve got 2 good squad player and now a new number 1 all before july, now fergie can concentrate on gettin some class into the centre for the rest of the window

also citeh have pulled out of the race for sanchez, dosn’t matter how much money those scummers throw at players, the ones with potential, self respect ambition e.t.c wont go anywhere near the wastelands, fucking joke club

  39. Cyril Sneer says:

@ Zelh – That’s disappointing. I had high hopes for some of those :-(

  40. bayobuya says:

Welcome lad to the team. I however dont think Lindengaard was signed to be strictly number 2. I think both will get regualr chances esp in the first year coz De Gea is young!!! But great shotstopper!

  41. Norm187 says:

mellissa joan hart thats a blast from the past, had a major thing for her all throgh high school

  42. Zelh says:

Cyril – Me too. Hoped for some Batista Bombs in midfield. :(
but seriously I would rather get Thiago for 5-6 years and sell him back for silly money than that cunt nasri.

  43. bayobuya says:

SAF sign Thiago and I will never ask anything of you again!!!

  44. Robbinhood Savage says:

so is that the new goalkeeper jersey?

given his height, he will look like a banana between the sticks in that yellow shirt :D

  45. Eric the Red says:

His name doesn’t sound too great in english

    Deh Gay-ah

Sounds a lot better in spanish but pundits are still calling Chicharito, Chicarito so we’ll see how this goes.

We should come up with a nickname asap until he earns the honor of being reffered to as King David ;)

  46. Red Devil says:

    What a relief !!

After some of his comments saying he might even stay back in Spain had really made me a bit edgy…We could not have afforded another post-Schemeichel situation.

Welcome young man and show us what you got

  47. stretfordend ole says:

Good to see Utd got him signed during the 2 days of Sunshine in manchester this year, it’ll be a shock for him when he comes back next month!!

Joking aside Great signing, now for a Central midfielder and we can put the cheque book away before the US tour.

  48. giggs12gerrard0 says:

Great signing for us good to see us quite aggressive in the transfer market this year. SAF knew he wanted and got them with no hassle.

  49. ynnek85 says:

    Welcome David!

Let’s hope you will be David De Great!!!

  50. Samuel - united WE stand says:

15+ years? we will be lucky to keep him 5 years, glad to see de gea signing, hopefully he’ll settle in smoothly.

  51. fergie is the boss says:

great signing, it will be interesting how he can handle the premiership consider his age and on his 3rd season has a top flight GK. But what a decline in age from VDA TO 40, to de gea of 20 talk about rewinding time of 20 years LOL

  52. fergie is the boss says:

This headline angers me, no terry has the headline, but 2 united players typical.

“pls is he the first spanish to play for united?”

Ricardo Lopez played in goal a few times. Plus, as someone stated, Pique.

  57. aimanunited says:

I think Ricardo Lopez or whatever his name is anotehr spanish player and he’s a keeper too…
in another unrelated news, england place 4th in the latest fifa ranking makes me fucking laugh!

  58. denton davey says:

Is “silly season” now over-and-done-with for UTD ?

  59. manucholegend says:

@ kanchelskis whos gonna start first Hernandez at 6.5M or Berbatov at 30M .Hmmmm let me think

  60. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Ahem. I told you so. (Me and Willie that is. For a long time, no need to worry. ;) )

    Welcome to Old Trafford, David.

You have lifelong stay at Manchester United on one condition – Never, ever think about breaking up with Edurne. 8)

Also, I have an interesting question for you: Will any club have a No. 2 that is as good as their No. 1? If that is the case, the No. 2 will surely be able to be a No. 1 at another club.

I always feel sorry for No. 2s, they never get their chance unless the No. 1 is injured or it is an extremely inconsequential match. Unlike other positions, the goalie is always a constant and when they are of the quality of Van Der Sar or, hopefully, De Gea, they aren’t going to be pushed out of the first team at all.

  61. willierednut says:

Welcome David De gea! Been championing this lad since the beginning. Glad he’s now signed and look forward to seeing him in the Red shirt. He’ll need time to settle. It’s a big move for the lad, I just hope the fans stick by him, because he will make mistakes. Big price on his head, but I’m confident it’ll prove to be a great bit of business by United.

  62. utdforever says:

    Great signing.. welcome David!

  63. hesselbom says:

    @Kings

Don’t forget he’s young so he’s bound to make mistakes. Hope it doesn’t affect him. Not saying Lindegaard wouldn’t make mistakes but I really liked the look of him and hope he gets his chance as well.

    @kanchelskis

The price of a player is not everything, mate. :)

  64. denton davey says:

giggs12gerrard0 @12:22: “SAF knew he wanted and got them with no hassle.”

For sure. These guys were scouted, had “the rule” run over them, and then probably tapped-up a few months ago. I’m not sure that there was “no hassle” since SAF was willing to pay the seller’s price – but he knew what he wanted and a few million quid wasn’t going to stop him from doing it.

I still love your moniker and a new one next year – Giggs13Gerrard0 !

  65. willierednut says:

    @King Eric

I think our interest in Nasri is real mate. He won’t sign a new deal at Arsenal and Wenger won’t let him leave for nothing. Watch this space, as they say. That’s according to a lad in the forum, who’s been pretty much spot on with our signings this summer.

  66. utdforever says:

    @ Denton.

Mate, Fabregas is exactly the type of signing we need, not Nasri. We need a box to box midfielder.. Carrck doesn’t cut it, neither does Fletch (as much as I rate them both). Ando is the closest thing we currently have to it but the question is is he ready for a regular first team start? Fabregas would be ideal but there’s absolutely no chance of him moving to us. Pure fantasy. He’s constantly stated he wants to go to Barcelona and I could never see him joining a title rival do you? But that’s the type of player we need to bring in, not nasri.

We now have nani, valencia, and young (as well as park and obertan- would just like to throw in something about Gabriel Obertan, I actually really think he’s got a chance to make it at Utd (call me crazy).. the thing about Gabby is that his decision making is absolute pants right now but most of us that follow reserve team progress know he’s got the speed, technical ability and shot to make himself a real threat if given the chance. If he can improve his decision making, similar to what a certain CR7 did then there is no reason why Obi1 cannot be a great player for us The question is will Fergie allow him this last chance or is he too ‘ruthless’? It’s an interesting one. I personally hopes he gets another crack of the whip. Anyway. Going back to my point, there is no room for Nasri IMO and yes, Fabregas would be the ideal signing but no fucking chance.

  67. utdforever says:

ps… sorry to wander off topic with that last post. De Gea has the world at his feet, lets hope he makes the most of it! Very happy he’s joined.

  68. Alansmithdanigerianred says:

    tanx mate,i totally 4got about pique.ONE UNITED

  69. Kings says:

hesselbom – That goes without saying mate, but I feel more relaxed and confident about the situation now than when Schmeichel retired back in 1999. We have two good goalkeepers who will have plenty of involvement between them next season.

  70. Rai says:

Welcome to the biggest club in the world mate

  71. United4ever says:

Welcome son. Great signing by SAF. All we need now is a creative mid.

  72. denton davey says:

UtdForever @ 14:51: “Fabregas would be ideal but there’s absolutely no chance of him moving to us. Pure fantasy. He’s constantly stated he wants to go to Barcelona and I could never see him joining a title rival do you?”

    Exactly ! It’s a hot-air balloon.

BUT, in the real-world, “money talks and bullshit walks” as they say in Texas. The situation at TheArse must be pretty desperate these days – abject failure during crunch-time last season; a lot of disgruntled players; and continued talk of “next year will be the year for our young players” who, of course, are no longer “young”. I haven’t done my pre-season prognostication but I can certainly see that TheArse might very well be life-and-death to beat out Spurs/Scousers for fourth next season.

AND, what do we make of the profound silence surrounding Alexis Sanchez these last few days ? Like I wrote on the week-end, I think UTD are lying in the weeds on this guy.

Much as one can rate Fabregas as an attacking midfielder, he’d be second in my rating to WayneBoy. IF, somehow, SAF can get a withdrawn-striker like Sanchez then he would be the perfect fit for the ScholesRole.

In terms of “formation” it would be Michael Carrick holding behind a slightly withdrawn WayneBoy and a more forward Sanchez, with Nani/Young/Valencia on the wings. Of course, Chicharito would be up-front. A nominal 4-1-4-1 with a lot of inter-changing -vertically and horizontally – among that ForwardFour.

In that case, Fabregas would be a second-stringer !

  73. Tannor says:

    Welcome David. This is United

  74. james21 says:

Welcome to THE Greatest club in the world. My only worry with these Spanish players is that if the likes of Barca and Madrid come sniffing in a few years after SAF has made him Great.
Still lets hope he grows to Love the club as we do and spends many years as our no1 Keeper.

On the Fabregas topic. He is a Utd fan as well as a Barca Fan, there was an article/ Interview a year or so ago and he said he loves Man utd and grew up watching us. Of course we have heard all this before from players. not sure Wenger will do buisness with us as I’m sure is the case with Nasri.

  75. prasan_UTDfan4life says:

Welcome to Manchester United David! Here’s hoping you enjoy a long and fruitful career at the biggest club in the world and become the best in your position! GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED! :-)

  76. sir alex simply the best says:

welcome to manchester united de gea now lets solve the CM problem what i really dont understand is why our midfield problems only occur in the away games we’ve been excellent at home

  77. willierednut says:

    Great username^^

  78. King Eric says:

Oh bloody hell lads. Fabregas aint gonna come . It truly is silly season. Bored of hearing about him. Just fucking sign for Barca Cesc so we dont have to suffer more summers of “will he wont he”.

Willie – Oh I know mate. Neil Ashton and a few have said Fergie is determined but where will he play? He aint a central midfielder as such.

  79. willierednut says:

King Eric – The genius will find a place for him.

  80. denton davey says:

King Eric @ 19:05: “Oh bloody hell lads. Fabregas aint gonna come . It truly is silly season. Bored of hearing about him.”

Of course he won’t be sold to UTD – but the mere mention got a rise out of you ! “It truly is silly season.” So, why not be silly ?

  81. man_utd_19 says:

He said Man Utd right this time :D
Welcome to Utd De Gea, you’ll do great!

  82. King Eric says:

    Denton. Ha true!

  83. Utdforever says:

    Lol Denton.

Yeah guys, it definately is funny season but what would we all do without it. For me, this is part of the reason I wake up everyday (in a non-depressive way! ;) .. to read all this bullshit and fantasize for a bit… I feel like a 14 yr old girl ffs ! Denton, Sanchez? No way.. i’d say Fabregas is as likely to sign (not in any near future).. those to fuckers are on the way to Barcelona one way or another. Fuck em.

But that type of player is exactly what we need although I notice that you and I are in complete agreement over your ‘wayne boy’. I’ve been saying this for about 2 yrs now.. Wayne Rooney is Paul Scholes’ NATURAL replacement. It’s not a ‘WHAT IF?’ , it is a ‘IT IS’. They have had the identical journey in football.. both fantastically talented, started off as strikers with great vision, belting shot and agressive in the tackle. If SAF has groomed wayne (like he’s bloody done already!!) to boss the midfield and play box-to-box.. then I say, fuck Modric, Fuck Sneider, Fuck Nasri, Fuck Fabregas, Fuck Sanchez… we don’t need you.

  84. denton davey says:

Utdforever @ 21:54: ” I say, fuck Modric, Fuck Sneider, Fuck Nasri, Fuck Fabregas, Fuck Sanchez”

I’d say that you’re going to get rather tired from all that activity.

” Wayne Rooney is Paul Scholes’ NATURAL replacement. It’s not a ‘WHAT IF?’ , it is a ‘IT IS’. They have had the identical journey in football.. both fantastically talented, started off as strikers with great vision, belting shot and agressive in the tackle. So there are at least three other people who agree with me about this – you, my BFF Elliot, and Balaji. You guys are in good company !

  85. willierednut says:

If Fergie signs a CM, that’s your idea well fucked!

  86. victoria. says:

    Welcome to hell David :)

    Good luck !

    the greeting from Poland :)

  87. utdforever says:

Lol Willie.. let’s wait and see.. have a feeling that our transfer activity is finished. Gill & SAF have said they wanted it done so Gill can go on his holiday at the end of June (which is now?) So this could be it. Great signings though in Jones, Young and De Gea!

    —————–De Gea (Lindegaard)———————-
Rafael (Fabio)— Rio (Smalling) — Vidic (Jones) — Evra (O’Shea)
Valencia (Nani) — Rooney (Ando) — Carrick (Fletch)– Young (Park)
    ————-Chicharito (Owen)————Berbatov (Kiko/Welbeck)——–

Look at the strength in depth we have now.. amazing. And Giggsy can be used sparingly ;)

  88. indiandevil says:

If Nasri signs for shitty, we’ll all know what exactly floats his boat, anyways £180k a week is a lot of money to turn down though. I cant see us offering anywhere near that. A bullet doged I say :)

    Btw

Are you worried about the future, the signings, or the lack of a marquee midfield general? Well dont be, just sit back and enjoy the ride, it wasnt always this good, it might never be this brilliant! THT rewinds to the summer of ’06, half a decade gone and the remarkable progress since then.
