In Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup semi-final, David de Gea saved a penalty from Romelu Lukaku. After winning the Sir Matt Busby player of the year, De Gea admitted he hadn’t saved any penalties in training in preparation for the semi.

It was a great save, it was really important. It’s true, they took penalties and I didn’t save one. Anthony scored a fantastic goal and we are in the final. You have to save in the important moments and I’m happy.

Now that United are in the final, De Gea recognises how important it is for United to beat Crystal Palace and lift the trophy.

It is really important for us and the club. I know that in England it’s a really big trophy with a lot of history and for sure we want to do everything to win the FA Cup.
