De Gea: I Want To Spend A Great Number Of Years Here

David De Gea has again reiterated his admiration for Edwin Van der Sar, but now, after signing for Manchester United, hopes to match the contribution made by the Dutchman to our club.

“In my opinion Edwin has been the best goalkeeper in the world whilst here at United,” De Gea told MUTV. “I hope to emulate him and spend a great number of years here. Hopefully I will equal or even surpass the performance and contribution he made to the club. Of course everybody wants to win the Premier League. That’s no different from me – I’d like to do that but also aiming to win the Champions League is realistic. That is what we’re going to do.

You are gonna be a really great signing for us. Just don’t pull the Rooney on us boy.

  2. The Fly says:

think he’ll go back to spain eventually, but he’s ours for the next 10 years.

  3. Kings says:

    Yes please David.

  4. captaink9 says:

  6. CJ7 says:

Hope this works out and we have a goalkeeper for years to come here. Such a key position.

  7. Zee Germans says:

Great potential!! Hope he don’t feel the pressure at United. Good signing!

  8. Rai says:

Captain9k – Any United fan can join mate. Trolls like you can get fucked. Have you got bored on the other threads? Decided to edit your username and post here instead? What absad pathetic cunt you are. Spending your evening on another teams blog because your own team is so shit and soul-less. Get fucked and die you prick

  9. Kings says:

Casillas reckons this lad will replace him in 2 years for the national team.

  10. Rai says:

Kings – Yeah I read that interview the other week. Everyone expects great things off him i think with the defence we’ve got they’ll make it easier for him to settle in. Rio and Vida especially

  11. Kings says:

Rai – Hello mate. Cut off the head and the body will die. Roses are red, violets are blue, I’m a schizophrenic and so am I.

  12. Jay says:

He is gonna be a legend for us. Man Utd is the only club I supported but in Spain, I kinda like Athelico Madrid, De Gae’s previous club and want them to progress pass Barca and especially the virus Real Madrid.

  13. Kings says:

Rai – Yeah things will be made easier for him in terms of settling in with the two central defensive partnerships we have at our disposal – Vida and Rio, Smalling and Jones. Great times ahead my friend.

  14. Fred says:

WTF? Who’s the fucking fake Fred??? :x

  15. Fred says:

Has this cunt been posting on other threads too? I’m going to check.

  16. Rai says:

Kings – One bloke. Multiple usernames. Like King Eric said – one very sad cunt

  17. willierednut says:

Rai – No fucking around there, mate lol. The “clique” strikes back!

  18. Fred says:

I suppose it could just be another guy named Fred. I’ll have to change my name, I’m not having this.

  19. Costas says:

Fred, don’t change your name mate. It will just confuse things even more. There’s an imposter running around. It’s happened to all of us.

  20. Rai says:

Willie – It’s the same dude mate. Freedom of speech has turned into wishing death on Alex Ferguson. Just check out the other threads. To be be honest, nothing bothers me apart from insults to our players or management. Wishing death on the great man for me is not acceptable and won’t be ignored. Fuckin bastard

  21. King Eric says:

Bore off captaincunt9. You really are a piece of fucking work you unstable lonely cunt. Infact I can’t speak for others but you are seriously starting to freak me out pal. You fucking window licking cunt. Hhmm bet you have a woman. I seriously hope you die. Oh and for your information I am from between leeds and york not a fucking cockney. All we need now is megleeker and devil to turn up and its full house. Anyway you still aint answered my question. Which stand and block do you sit in?

I find it fucking baffling that Tufty from sef flags was banned from this site for fuck all in comparison to these mugs. Abusing united, fergie, players. Racists remarks. Comments about regulars families and the cunt is still allowed to post his bile. Then again I fully expect some grief for this now as some have pointed out its a blog and freedom of speech blah blah blah.

  22. bhuttu says:

    I love the kid already!

  23. Rai says:

Kings – you reckon Jones will be given the chance in DMF? With Rio, Vida first choice, he could make that position his own…

  24. willierednut says:

Rai – It’s a recurring theme, throughout the threads. Things are sliding and there’s not much being done about. The comment policy, is a joke IMO. KE is spot on, tufty got the hooked for less!

  25. Costas says:

YipYapStam said he would be back tomorrow and instead he showed up an hour later under another username. captain obvious. ;)

There’s only one criteria for anyone willing to join the clique. You have to post only under one username and your purpose here has to be to discuss United and not to act like a troll.

  26. Costas says:

Agreed with King Eric about tufty.

Anyway, on topic, Fly is right I think. Can’t see De Gea finishing his career at OT, but hopefully we can get many years of top service from him.

  27. Rai says:

King Eric – couldn’t have said it better myself. Free speech is one thing…this shit is a different level. I’ve been pulled up for going off topic in the past…WTF does this cunt have to do to get banned?!

Anyway……You reckon that’s the end of the spending? I wouldn’t be surprised. If I’m honest one midfielder I’ll be chuffed with but I it doesn’t happen I trust the boss, he’ll have something up his sleeve…either promoting a younger player or a shift around…

  28. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Rai, Many people who’ve seen Jones play think he could possibly be used as a DMF. Not sure what Sir Alex is thinking with the lad but still that is a definite possibility if we are short of options in DMF like last year.

Normally, I would be worried with us signing a young goal-keeper what with experience being the key and all that. But with this lad no such worries. I’ve seen him play a few times for Atletico and mainly saw him during the U-21 and he reminded me of Van Der Sar so much. I don’t know whether it is due to the fact that both of them are tall and lanky but with him in between the sticks, I think it will just “feel” like the Big Dutchman never retired.

I think he will settle in fairly well. There will be jitters as always. He is young and he is in a new place. But the best “new place” to be in is at Old Trafford, so I am sure he’ll get adjusted easily. The world’s best centreback partnership being ahead of him certainly helps also.

Does anybody know whether Edwin is staying for a part time coaching/counseling role or something like that? IMO, both De Gea (especially) and Anders could benefit a lot from that.

  29. alex'RD says:

    @bhuttu
    Agree!

He seems like he’s staying for a while. Anyway, this season is not going to be easy for him, some mistakes should be acceptable, he is awfully young.

  30. lawman10 says:

The likes of yip yap & all the other twats that are creeping on to our site, a manchester united one at that !!
should not be given the time of day! let alone a comment……..so why let them think they can wind us up? best way to treat them?…………….NO COMMENT!
right moan over………………………back to united my gut feeling is that a midfielder or two are on there way to old trafford, nasri & ??
come on lads lets get back talking about united thats what we are about…………………think on no comment fuck em.

  31. Bashy says:

Hope de gea will stay with us forever

  32. parryheid says:

Well Dave De I hope your here for yonks as well as it means any concerns I might have ie experience/Premier league will have been proved groundless so here’s hoping.

  33. Utd4life says:

Nasri to Utd rumours are gaining momentum..Never in a billion years would I have imagined this..

  34. SJP says:

Over the moon with this signing, the guy’s world class and he’s only a kid. He’ll quickly develop into the worlds best keeper at United. If Nasri doesnt sign a new contract at Arsenal soon then there’s a chance we’ll get him but it’s very rare that the top sides in England sell to one another, I dont recall us ever signing a player from Arsenal. Sneijder would be my choice it looks like he’s happy to stay at Inter.

  35. Costas says:

    @lawman10

Hope it’s not Nasri mate. Not underestimating him, but I don’t think he has anything more to offer to what we already have. Time to look for central midfielder imo.

  36. willierednut says:

Nasri to United! Fergie has his spies everywhere… He’s been reading this blog and decided to buy all the players we hate!

  37. Zelh says:

rumours that we sign nasri on 130k a week.
that’s pretty much for a cook isn’t it?

  38. smartalex says:

Rai, Balaji Sivaraman, Kings, Costas, King Eric, CedarsDevil and Devil310

Thank you and well said on the Kiko thread.

I walked away because I started looking at air tickets, and I know where that will end up.

You guys are a credit to Manchester United, and Sir Alex would be proud!

  39. lawman10 says:

nasri. is a story that just wont go away.
there where times last season he was running arsenals midfield, plus he is right age.
its just a gut feeling I have!!

  40. Utd4life says:

On topic.I don’t see De Gea staying with us forever..But as long as he is with us I hope he does well..

  41. Passe says:

    lawman10,
Wasn’t it you who broke the De Gea medical on here before it made the rounds in the media? So might the addition of a midfielder be more than just a gut feeling then? I hate to speculate over transfers as it is a waste of time but you seemed to have some sources apart from the rags and twitter.

  42. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@smartalex, Cheers mate. I so badly wanted to ignore him but he thought he sounded intelligent when saying those things. Usual trolls know what they are but this guy was different. So, I couldn’t resist.

@Utd4life, Yeah, the thought has crossed my mind. But I don’t think we should be thinking about that given that it hasn’t been even a full day since he signed. We’ll see what happens as time goes along. He probably will get to love the club like Casillas with Madrid and who knows we may be seeing him play for United when he is 40.

Reg the Nasri story, I think Fabregas would be a better choice over Nasri. Cesc is the kind of player we need IMO, not a Nasri type player. I am still not sold on him either but as is the case, if Sir Alex thinks he is the guy, I wouldn’t argue.

Then again, I personally don’t think we’re in it for Nasri. Although willie did say that some forumite who isn’t wrong on these things said we’re in for him. I haven’t seen any real indication from our side as to whether we’re in it for him except Wenger’s statement that he won’t sell to us. As is always the case, patience is the key given that we’re seemingly linked to every goddamn mid-fielder in the world right now.

  43. alex'RD says:

    @Balaji

I was about to ask the same thing! And yes, normally everybody would be concerned about this signing, a young goalkeeper supposed to be our first choice?! but Fergie knows more than anybody who he is signing (let’s try not to remember some dark episodes) he has been already tested in top events against top rivals, let’s just give the kid some time (there is only one chicharito) Unfortunately it would be likely that some “fans” would come out of their caves and start saying shit, I obviously would love he’d adapt quickly to the league and the team, but let’s wait.

  44. willierednut says:

Balaji – I didn’t believe we were in for him either. There’s an definite interest. Wenger won’t let him leave for nothing. If we offer 18/20 million, I don’t think they’d turn that down. Arsenal are already looking for replacements. Vidal from Leverkusen and Alverez. It’s not cetain, it’ll happen, but don’t be surprised if we get him.

  45. RedLife says:

Good signing and i’m glad to see the deal done and dusted. Lets not get carried away just yet, he doesn’t speak english and might have trouble settling into life over here. Plus he might flop, he has big boots to fill and at 20 he is very young for a keeper. I’m excited by the prospect of him doing well, but I’m not expecting Schmeichel part 2 striaght away.

I think Nasri will be a decent signing.

  46. willierednut says:

    *certain*

  47. lawman10 says:

passe: yes I did let it slip about the de gea medical,
all I can say is watch this space

  48. King Eric says:

    Many thanks smartalex. Top man.

Yeah come on lawman mate. Any news at all. You were bang on with the de gea medical.

  49. Rai says:

Balaji – “the best “new place” to be” – great quote mate. I think VDS is having a year off but I can’t see him staying away for two long. He has too much to offer as a coach and I hope he comes to us instead of Ajax – although whatever decision he makes fair play to him. He owes us nothing so as long as he’s happy I’m happy for him.

Willie – Yeah mate Fergie defo has his spies out. He saw us all slating Young and he’s now made us change our minds….but I really hope he doesn’t do the same with Nasri!! FFS anyone but him!!! Like K.E said I would genuinely rather have Barton for a fraction of the price is a position where he would be effective. I can’t see Nasri doing anything that Young, Nani, Rooney can’t do between them. No assists and he’s an attacking midfielder? At least Young tally up the assists and he’s at a weaker team that scores less goals!!!

Smartalex – hello my friend, hope you’re well.

Lawman – I know there’s no smoke without fire, but I really don’t want to be in a position where I have to change my mind on a player….again!

  51. O'Shea for PM says:

Not totally convinced about Nasri joining, apparently Jim Lawlor was the one who let slip that United were finalising a deal for him however these things are easily made up and faked.

Personally i feel that Nasri would stifle the potential of Anderson and would rather we signed a defensive warrior.

  52. Passe says:

lawman, now you make it all sound so mysterious man…

  53. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@smartalex, I hereby pronounce you The Republik Sleuth – so to speak.

    Thanks for the link mate.

BTW, does anybody else get pissed when reporters refer to him as Fergie. There’s a fucking reason a title has been conferred to him as a mark of respect. I hate it whenever somebody other than his managerial friends like Sam, Curbishley, Beetroot-face etc. don’t refer to him as Sir Alex.

Also, how many of you think Sir Alex is going to end up homeless in a few years. I mean, he’s already been conferred all the honors. Anymore and I can picturize Kathy kicking him out of the house because he’s being rewarded too much. :P

  54. Rai says:

    Lawman – what’s your squad number? :)

  55. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Could Lawman be Gary Neville duping as all? :?:

  56. Rai says:

Balaji – Can’t be G.Nev…..that troll would be been abused beyond belief

  57. willierednut says:

We’ve signed 3 players already lads, be patient. ;)

  58. King Eric says:

Balaji. Hello mate. Yes it does fuck me off, the fergie thing. The sun newspaper are the worst at it. Not fucking once EVER do they call him sir alex. Its always “Fergie“ or “ alex ferguson“. Disrespectful cunts.

  59. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

I hope De Gea is like Pepe Reina can Can Develop a love for his & be sure enough to pen long term contracts with United after his current contract.

What i really respect about reina is he came to another country, really young, spoke no english yet instantly connected with the scouse scum, adapt to the PL and become a really good a goalie in the prem.
If De Gea can replicate Reina Then the boy will be a sucess, he will grow to love Manchester United and England & Won’t think twice to leave Stability for Spanish Cross Town Rivals of Aletico Madrid,”The Virus”.

C’MON Van De Gea ! Be Our Hero, Become the Flying Dutchman & Be our Silky Spaniard :)

What I despise about Reina is recently he like a abused prostitute has advertised himself to replace VDS & De Gea at United & Aletico Very Subliminally to continue to show loyalty to liverpool but yet oddly throw his name into a Hat that he wasn’t purchasing. Why Pimp yourself aimlessly when you sign a 6 year contract? He probably regrets the price tag hanging from his balls. But I hope De Gea doesn’t behave like that.

  60. parryheid says:

Not fancy a possible incoming player to United?Question you should ask yourself, will he improve the team or not.

  61. Rai says:

I can’t see us spending stupid money on one player…the grooming option of a young player is more likely. I know now and again we buy a ready made superstar (Rooney, Rio, Berbatov) but not sure if that will happen after we’ve already spent so much..

  62. Sceptic peg says:

Looking into the crystal ball i see we will sign………a new ball boy in the coming months. His name will be Nasri and his other job will be to hand out the oranges at half time.

    p.s the winning lottery numbers are 23, 12, 45, 03, 06, 12

  63. willierednut says:

Players will go in the next few weeks. I’m sure, we’ll see one more signed. Who that’ll be? We’ll find out soon enough.

  64. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

FFS Im all over the place today :(

“I hope De Gea, like Pepe Reina Can Develop a love for his club & be sure enough to pen long term contracts with United after his current contract .”

    -signed *

GodPapii…you beautiful slut What was you thinking? How could you?
Wheres your consigliere to help you in times of your Lunacy !

  65. King Eric says:

Rai. Not enough it would seem though mate. Some clown called kenny from scotland called the phone oin tonight and said he was disappointed with the signings and that the Glazers aren’t stumping up the money. Seriously what the fuck?

  66. Costas says:

    @O’Shea for PM

Agreed about Nasi and Ando. Plus, I don’t think that Nasri is any useful as a CM in a 4-4-2 and that’s what we should be after right now.

  67. dazbomber says:

This is a text off my taxi friend he is usually right. Apparently utd have signed nasri announced tomorrow. £23m you heard anything . I carn’t see it he’s out of contract next year

  68. O'Shea for PM says:

    @Costas

Yeah my thinking is that this is probably Anderson’s final chance to impress, to allow him to do so he needs to get games. Haven’t seen a great deal of Nasri admittedly but I do firmly believe that if we can get Anderson to fulfill his potential then he can go onto be a much better player than Nasri.

Therefore if we are signing one midfielder i would prefer us to sign a De Rossi type although i am aware that he seems to have gone off the ball. Any thoughts??

  69. willierednut says:

I can’t see De Rossi at United.

  70. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

I’d rather see Anderson, park & Cleverley be groomed into a spearhead of the midfield 3 and possibly Rooney.
Also I’d like to see Jones temporarly become our new Hargo/ Evans.
    Tunniclife Moulded into Keano.
Evans Become the new O’shea…how fitting, not quite as capable of regular 1st team games but useful.
Fletcher gain form & play alongside carrick both as midfield anchors possibly. Both are creative so it could work.
Giggs play more of attacking Mid role to replace Scholesy’s experience & Passing range in the middle.

It would be nice to see a new midfield signing but I dont mind. I actually trust Lord Sir Doctor Ferguson to make the correct judgement as he always does and I will back that.

Fucking Hell Im feeling rather hot & bothered over the thought winning the 20th. Feel like a Women on dry run waiting to get laid

    I’ve officially lost it, confirmed by United’s Club Doctor at;
    http://Man.united.com/clubdoctorsconfirmpapiihaslosthismarbles

  71. O'Shea for PM says:

    @willierednut

Nah me neither but I would like to see a player like him in the centre, sadly there seems to be a real shortage of talent in this area.

  72. Dave Mack says:

I’ve no doubt this lad has the talent but the big question is how will he settle in Manchester. How many Spanish speaking players do we have in our squad?

  73. Rai says:

    O’Shea – Fletcher > De Rossi!!!

Nasri is out of contract in a year £20 mill is way way too much for the little cunt (I can continue to call him names unless he’s a United player!!!)

KE – Some fans mate just want big exotic names not thinking about the team as a whole….guess that Kenny dude was one of them….we’ve bought really well. The last time we spent like this we won the double :)

  74. Fred says:

Hernandez, Valencia, Evra and Park speak Spanish.

  75. Kings says:

Rai – Hello mate. I wouldn’t be surprised as he has a strong build which will enable him to play in that position. All I can say is, we have made some good signings this close season and I’m hoping to see the fringe players get a look in. Looking at the average age of our squad now, we are set up to dominate for a very long time. Exciting times ahead.

smartalex – Thanks my friend. Hey, you are a credit to Manchester United too and don’t you forget it!

King Eric – Hello mate. Yeah tell me about it. I’ve lost count on the amount of times I have called them and abused them for calling him by his incorrect name. Fucking cunts.

  76. Kings says:

I do not want to see that Oliver Reed look a like De Rossi at United.

  77. Costas says:

    @O’Shea for PM

I agree that if Ando fulfills his potential, he will be a lot more useful than Nasri in the center. And if we manage to get the nest out of him and Fletcher next season, that should make our midfield a lot stronger.

As for your suggestion, yeah, one more defensive midfielder is what we need imo. Similar to De Rossi. Unless SAF plans on using Phil Jones in that position…

  78. Dave Mack says:

    Thanks Fred.

Little things like having a choice of players in the squad who can help him settle in really is important. If he’s not happy it will show in his form and and bad start would most likely signal a short stay.

  79. willierednut says:

O’Shea for PM – The only names I’ve heard is Modric, Sneijder and Nasri. Don’t know if we were ever really interested in De Rossi.

  80. smartalex says:

    According to The Daily Fail:

‘Barcelona are hopeful of a positive response from Arsenal in the next 48 hours after lodging a £35million offer plus add-ons for Cesc Fabregas.’

If true and accepted, Nasri will not want to stay there, and the Arse absolutely won’t want to sell him, but may have their hand forced by the fact that there is only 1 year left on his contract.

  81. smartalex says:

“These are clubs that make you think,” Nani said when asked about Barca.

“But I’m sure I’ll be at Manchester United, It’s the best club in the world.”

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7010716,00.html

    Gotta love Nani!

  82. O'Shea for PM says:

    @Costas

Aye but i can’t think of who else, Jones potentially could be the man but next season is too soon to depend on him in the centre of the park plus imo he’s a natural centre back.

My real concern about Fletcher is about whether or not he is able to get back up to the level of 08/09 and 09/10. Prior to the injury he hadn’t looked 100% at all, mind you i thought he looked good against Blackpool at the end of the season.

  83. chenkothedevil says:

i think nuer should have been a better replacement for Edwin. Never the less I trust Sir Alex. De Gea welcome to the club of extra ordinary football club. We accomodate no mistake and you need to be on top of situation.

  84. smartalex says:

Kings – Thank you my friend!

  85. T4M says:

  86. Balaji Sivaraman says:

IMO, the players we’ve been linked with goes like this:

Luka Modric – I personally think he will either stay with Spurs and sign a new contract or go to Chelsea. Spurs will want to hold any club who wants him for ransom and there are only two clubs who can pay the insane amount they want and only one of them is in London. So, Chelsea it is.

Wesley Sneijder – I would be flabbergasted if we got him. His wage demands are huge and unreasonable for us and his fee is quite frankly insane. So, it’s not happening.

Samir Nasri – This looks likelier if the ROM sources are to be believed but I personally have this gut feeling that it won’t happen. Though I don’t know why it is that way.

Steven Defour – I am surprised at how little this guy is mentioned in all discussions. He is very similar to the De Gea situation. We’ve been tracking him for years. He is young and in-experienced but with loads of talent. Admittedly, I’ve not seen him play but Sir Alex rates him highly, so there you go. He fits in with what has been happening in the summer so far which is a blast of youth in the team. He is young, relatively cheap and readily available. Plus, Martin Ferguson visited him this summer also. So, I still have a lot of hopes of that deal happening even though it has not been in the papers a lot.

  87. O'Shea for PM says:

    @willierednut

Yeah I know thats who we’ve primarily been linked with. However i would like us to sign a defensive warrior and have the new signing, Fletcher and Carrick for the defensive position and Anderson, Cleverley and Giggs for the attack-minded centre midfielder.

    However In SAF I trust.

  88. Kings says:

chenkothedevil – Hello pal. No pressure on the lad then?

  89. parryheid says:

Hah,what has Anderson got to do with it?None of you aware it’s Scholes position that is to be filled?Or do some think Anderson will surpass Scholes talents.

  90. willierednut says:

Unconfirmed reports, Nasri has been seen running towards Carrington, with Wenger in hot pursuit! Eye witnesses, have told SSN reporters, that Wenger shouted, you wee ponce cunting cunt at Nasri!
Nasri retorted, fuck off whinger, Fergie has promised me a glut of trophies if I sign on the dotted line!

  91. Kings says:

willierednut – Fergie also promised to suffocate him with his own snood if he ever saw him wear it in his presence.

  92. Rai says:

    Goodnight reds

  93. smartalex says:

Very funny willierednut! 5 lines, wow!

  94. Kings says:

Rai – Goodnight you true red. Catch up tomorrow my friend.

  95. smartalex says:

    Goodnight Red Rai!

  96. Kings says:

smartalex – Good spot mate. Hope he didn’t get a nosebleed!

  97. Costas says:

    @O’Shea for PM

Yeah, Jones sounds like one for the future at the moment. Either way, I think that the best way to go about is to replace the 2 CMs we’ve lose with 2 CMs. Cleverley will take Gibson’s spot, so all tha remains is someone to replace Scholes. In the squad I mean. In a literal sense no one can replace him. And like you told willie, that player has to be defensive minded.

Fletcher’s form next season will be an enigma, but I am hopeful that this season was just a setback. Plus, Fergie changed his role a bit by allowing him to play higher up the pitch and that might have thrown him off.

Really looking forward to seeing him play. Looks like a top notch ‘keeper. I suspect he’ll be at United for 5 -6 years, providing he performs, before returning to Spain to replace Casillas or Valdes. I reckon the grey Manchester weather will be ‘too much’ for him! I hope I’m wrong though!

    Now for a creative midfielder…

  104. O'Shea for PM says:

    @Costas

    Agreed.

The only other problem with Fletcher i feel was that his energy levels seemed a lot lower than previous years, if he can get these back up then we should see the real Darren Fletcher again seeing as this is such an important asset of his game.

    Hey Guys,
I have been following this site for a while but never really contributed as yet. I really respect the level headed opinion of guys such as Rai, Balaji Sivaraman, Kings, Costas, King Eric, CedarsDevil and Devil310, smartalex rather than the guys who call themselves ‘true reds’ but are eternally dissatisfied even when we are the champions. They want to spend millions on players they have never seen to beat the new obsession- Barca.
Guys, it was said at the beginning of the transfer season that we will make 3 signings and the Jones one being unexpected, means logically one more is left and obviously we all know that CM is where we are likely to invest in next but I am of the opinion that it may very well be that we don’t make any new signings or atleast not the ones we expect. Maybe a low key prospect for the future like Hernandez. Last year, we won the league despite not being at our strongest for most of it. Valencia was out for most of it. Rooney had gone gaga and really became influential after the game with city.. In the beginning, Chicharito was trying to adapt. But still we were at the top. Means we were better than the rest in EPL. Maybe lucky, but still better. And these players were the attacking blood of United during the end. What I am trying to get at is maybe united’s midfield was not as weak as made out to be. The attacking creativity was lacking because only Nani and Berba upfront were at the peak and the others joined the party late. What i think is, sometimes when the chips were against us we needed some flair and creativity- (young) and some steel in midfield against teams- the destroyer. (jones- apart from being an excellent cb he plays well as the destroyer too, so in certain games he can do what pepe did for madrid against barca wand he is much less reckless than pepe) But most of the times we were ok. Most of the people from where i come from(india) are saying that we need a creative midfielder a la schneider and maybe a modric but i feel creativity in a team which has striking options in the form of roo, chicharito, nani, young, berba, valencia will ooze. Lets not forget carrick had to do the steely work becasue fletch was not at his best and hence was not as creative. Fletch, back to normal, or ando along with carrick with valencia/young/ nani on the wings and rooney/young in the hole with hernandez/rooney makinig those glorious runs will create many chances and should do as far as EPL and number 20 is considered. The Barca protocol can’t be cracked in one window. It has to be a cts process and fergie makes a team in 2-3 years not one which then is stable for the next 4-5 years with like for like replacements. And united are not a side. to spem\nd more than 50m pounds in one window. We buy with prudence. Hence, this team for this season with the chance for developing the so promising youngsters might be what the great one has in mind although we mere mortals can never guess what he has in store for us!
Sorry for the lengthy post, but havent contributed yet, so am making up for lost time!

I’d like to share an article about De Gea by The Independent Gives an Insight into his personality.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/mentally-tough-de-gea-can-exceed-van-der-sar-2304518.html

I already Love De Gea. The Boy at such a young age has left his boyhood club that he loves to further his career which he deserves. As a football fan and from his Point of View I would be devastated to leave My Club because they was not big enough financially or ability wise to win the trophies they deserve. He had the self belief that he could be Athletico’s number 1 and win them trophies which he did. The boy was amazing in the Europa and Super Cup & I watched him, he is really special. The boy geniunely loves athletico and I hope he can love Manchester United a quarter as much.

People forget that when a footballer is young and raw that they are human & have a tough time leaving home, even some of our english lads had to leave their parents and family. It is nice to see he was emotional about his departure unlike some players and asked for the fans to understand his decision to move on. (Rooney)

I hope by De Gea bringing his whole family, Girlfriend, jorge Mendez, having spanish team mates in England and by having spanish speaking teammates at United he can adapt to life in Manchester and Become our Star.

De Gea hasn’t even put on a shirt for United Yet I love Him !
Jones the beast will be our future Captain :)
Young will usher in a New Era for us with Chico,Twins, Nani, anderson, Rooney, Tony etc Boys under 26.

John O’Shea recounts how the players reacted to a team-mate questioning whether the other players were good enough to challenge for trophies.

“It transpired it was just an interesting technique of getting a new deal,” O’Shea said. “I think Wayne, if he could turn back the clock, might do things a bit differently, but both parties were happy in the end.

“He came [into the Carrington dressing room after signing his new deal] and apologised to everyone. He said he’d done what he had to do, basically, and he was sorry if he had offended anybody. Obviously there were a few comments that will stay in the dressing room. They were quite smart and funny, but all friendly.”

Glad this is over and the sheet has dropped and hit the fans.

To everyone saying he will leave – look at Liverpool’s Spanish goalie, and I don’t think Cesc would be so tempted if he was winning something with Arsenal. Also Ronaldo is not Spanish, he unfortunately caught the virus and the lifestyle there works for him. Lot’s of foreigners love it here. Torres wasn’t exactly holding out for a Spanish club.

The boy wants to go down in history and being a AM former player he probably is not too keen on virus or barca. Let’s let him settle and get to know him before we predict his exit lads.

Very exciting! By the way @ Costas – I have to disagree, Nasri is better and more creative than any of out current crop and he can score.

  145. Costas says:

    @NBI

Yeah Nasri is more creative than our current midfielders, but the problem for me is that Nasri isn’t a midfielder like them. Can he play well as a CM in a 4-4-2? Because that’s what we need.

    @ancha

You are too kind mate. Killing them with your smilies.

  149. smartalex says:

    Good Morning!

King Eric – We were implying that although it seems very clear that United do consider Nasri as a target, it is possible that Sir Alex has another agenda. Perhaps it is a red herring, and that we are actually targeting a different Arsenal player. Or possibly we are appearing to want Nasri to distract the media from our actual target. Another thought is that it is merely a mechanism to accelerate the signing of an extension for Nasri at Arsenal, thereby committing their funds.

Most likely it is none of the above, and actually we do consider Nasri as a suitable player.
This does not sit comfortably with me, so I’m trying to argue around it!

    - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

Marching Red – Well said at 7:34!

It is frustrating when comments are unreadable. However, English is not everyone’s fortѐ.
Far better to try to understand, and answer, a comment than to merely attack the poster.

Lazy contributors are worthy of ridicule. Those who can clearly speak english but do not bother to use punctuation, or to proof-read their comments before submitting them, are selfish fools.

It is easy to make a mistake, but it is lazy and selfish not to care.

    @ all : i did answer it..
moving over that, am i the only one who think rd54 is crazy to not rate anderson?
sure he hasn’t shown his best form yet but as they say form is temporary class is permanent..
i didn’t attack him.. to understand what attacking a poster means see bill bob or captaink9 or that idiot who was attacking costas for liking smallville…
it was condescension… im sure thats allowed

  154. Costas says:

I can see where the frustration for Ando may come from, but even last season there were times where his talent was there for everyone to see. He just needs to be more consistent. Does anyone know if he will be a part of Brazil’s copa America squad? It will be a blessing for us if he isn’t.

  155. rohan19 says:

no anderson is not a part of the copa squad.. i think a full pre-season and no injury will help him realise his potential.. fergie improved nani’s attitude.. im sure he’ll do the same with anderson…

  156. 0161-jon says:

Why doesn’t Ferguson go drop 10 mil on Scott parker, he would be great ‘value’, not q glam signing but would do really well for us.

  157. rohan19 says:

we have carrick and fletcher who are much better than scott parker.. parker was the best player of the team that finished 20th.. we shouldn’t comapre him to our lads

  158. Indian Devil says:

Yes Ando hasn’t fulfilled his potential but he should be given one more season atleast to do it. May be playing regularly will help him as I think he can be a great player for us for years to come but let’s see…

I won’t mind Nasri at all you know.. He offers something different from our current midfielders and he could be a good foil for Carrick or Fletcher (not sure about him and anderson together).. He has the PL experience also.. And yes I do believe he can play in 4-4-2 but that’s just my opinion.

  159. Costas says:

    @rohan

Cheers. That’s good news since like you said, he really needs to be a part of our entire pre season.

  160. rohan19 says:

say we do end up signing nasri… it’ll give us amazing flexibility such as

    de gea
    rafael ferdi vida evra
    fletch carrick
    nani nasri young
    rooney…

this when chicarito is rested else rooney drops to nasri role and chicharito comes in
also nasri can play left wing so can young and nani.. it would give us scary flexibility…
the only loser in this signing would be berbatov.. but i really don’t want to lose him..
    damn this transfer jargon

  161. rohan19 says:

    @costas : i don’t think he’s had a proper pre-season since arriving.. might be a factor in his development..

  162. One two says:

@bayobuya..i think a midfield trio of ander, nasri, carick will surely work. And a front three of wayne,nani,young/chicha is something extra ordinary attack, fluid, technical, powerful, flairy.Back to 07 a fluid formation or 433.This is awesome.

  163. 0161-Jon says:

@rohan19 controversial but I don’t think Carrick is better than Scott Parker. He’d be ace for us.

  164. Corea says:

Not sure though whether he spends a decade or so here which is always nice.
Let’s wait and see whether we were accurate in choosing him over the other GK.
    Welcome David.

  165. One two says:

@rohan19, oh we share same idea.this formation is epic.

  166. One two says:

@rohan19, oh we share same idea.this formation is epic.

  167. Imran says:

Exciting times ahead we’ve already got the pick of the crop in terms of defence, now for the midfielder.
I for one would’nt mind nasri he did score some fantastic goals early in the season, he could bring that spark from midfield that we seem to be lacking. If we do buy him i would’nt worry about the bitching attitude, the lord/doctor will take care of that. Also i think time has come to shift to the 4 3 3, as we have an abundance of strikers cum wingers and a hard working midfield.
But alas i’m not the most successful manager in the history of modern football am i?
    In fergie we trust….

  168. One two says:

@corea,it all depend on wether barca dominate europe or not.if we can dismantle them degea will be with us for 10 to 15 years. At the moment the only team above united is barca.

  169. kanchelskis says:

Nasri rumours gathering more pace today.

I can only think that Fergie plans to change his role somewhat. He was bascially a wing-forward for Arsenal last season, especially when Fabregas was fit.

I think Fergie will try and push him back to the central attacking mid role he had at Marseille, and maybe even deeper.

    - Is this the case?
    - Is Nasri aware of it?
    - Is Nasri happy with it?

Key questions if this signing goes ahead.

    Maybe we arent done yet.

I’ll be shocked if nasri signs for united, 100 percent he’ll sign a new deal at arsenal but the rumours are gathering momentum, and whats with this 20million pricetag? he has only one year left, should be 15mill or less, would give that creative spark we lack at the moment but doubt he’ll join.I’ll be shocked if nasri signs for united, 100 percent he’ll sign a new deal at arsenal but the rumours are gathering momentum, and whats with this 20million pricetag? he has only one year left, should be 15mill or less, would give that creative spark we lack at the moment but doubt he’ll join.

    Morning all true REDS

    Samuel – united WE stand

You raise a good point regarding Parker and the English national team. I would also like to add that the England team never really had a future, their now aging and so called golden generation were expected to win every tournament they reached…..

    UNITED > Everyone else

    Heywood is Red

Your post was so good you said it twice! lol….. I know a few posters have been suffering with this problem…

Regarding your post, I agree on the 2 main issues i.e. contracts in football these days and what most players say…. As far as De Gea is concerned he will have my full support while at United and wish him all the success, whether he genuinely wants to remain at United for many years I guess we will never know

  185. CedarsDevil says:

    Morning Costas

  186. CedarsDevil says:

Regarding Nasri, I do dislike him but that stems from his multiple sly digs at United last season….. No doubt a very good talent BUT he did go missing in the second half of last season and always seems to bottle it the big games….

  187. Samuel - united WE stand says:

@cedars – the english national team needs drastic changes, the fact most of the players are not comfortable with the ball really is terrible and now they’ve jumped up rankings over brazil? i mean i can’t begin to laugh at that.

  188. CedarsDevil says:

    Samuel – united WE

Seriously? They are ahead of Brazil in the rankings? I mean Brazil are not that great these days but come on! Do you have a link to that please? I never really bother with national team news to be honest and I also hate World Cup summers, most overrated tournament in football and usually means that United players taking part are extremely tired at the start of the new season

  189. dazbomber says:

Nasri will sign ,the salford taxi driver told me and he is never wrong. The other day he said it will rain or go dark and both came true

Don’t want to make it sound like i’m dogging the guy, just get sick of the crap in the game. But, love united and love football so what do you do!

  191. Heywood is Red says:

I do support the england team (united>england) but being fourth in the world is a joke. The last world cup were pants, spain winning wi the boring possession style that barca get lauded for. Champions league is better comp, apart from the final which i didn’t enjoy so much.

  195. RedMegleeker says:

It is valid these days to consider the length of term a Spanish player signs as the tempation to go back to Spain is huge. Look at the mess of that Fabregas situation?

If we get the best years out of a player so young then let him go back to his home country then theres no real issue. With Ronaldo we got the majority of his best years and still like him flirting with returning to us.

  196. CedarsDevil says:

dazbomber – Must be a scouser then!

  197. gaurav12931 says:

@costas i was shocked reading the article, then i looked up and saw that it was the daily star.As long as such these reports come in sun or daily star we shudnt really care i guess!!

on a serious note we need him to stay atleast one more year,so that the new players get to know what being a united player really means!

  198. captaink9 says:

    Scott Parker

    English yes
    Good player yes
    Man. United player NO.
He was a stand out player in a relegated team, could I see Parker win us Champions Leagues and Premierships, NO.

We need an Essien type player.

  199. one two says:

@captaink9…the essien type of player aka fletcher.I think he was the best box to box midfielder 2 years before.
@gaurav12931..giggs will stay with the club. There is no way alex will let him go.He is just priceless with respect to experience on pitch.

  200. Costas says:

    Hi Cedars.

    Hi Cedars.

    @gaurav

It has to be bullshit. No matter what has happened in his personal life, Giggs should go out on his own terms. And like you said, with Nev, Scholes and VDS retired, we will need his presence around the young players more tha ever.

  201. Red Devil says:

    @Costas

Hi there buddy…long time no speak…

The more I think about nasri, the more it makes sense to me. He’s creative, technically gifted, has amazing balance, can dribble, can pass, can retain possession, can score upto 10 from midfield..He ticks most of the boxes I’d say.

And before he signed for Arsenal, United were linked heavily to him. I remember his name being connected with United several times a few years ago. At least he doesn’t cry like Jose Reyes and many of the other arsenal players about being tackled, he just gets up and gets on with it.

Plus, If I remember correctly, he started out his career playing in Central midfield, a slightly advanced midfield role if it is to be believed. He has already said several times this season, that he’d like a more central role than what Wenger is using him in right now.

And United need someone in that Central role, I mean If we are going after Sanchez, who can play either on the wing or as an attacking mid role, then why not go for a cheaper option in Nasri, who’s just as technically good and already has an idea of the premier league, so no bedding in time would be required. In the games against Barcelona, it was only he and Jack Wilshere who came out with some credit, not Fabregas whose mind was never in the game.

I’d welcome him to United if he wants to come. If he doesn’t, then as King Eric says, he’s a goofy, poncy, mincing snood wearing :D

I see all the other regulars are on here….but I cant see MG for the last few days…whats up with him?

  202. RD54 says:

Deep thank you to Marching red & rai ,I’m Chinese ,Also thanks to ancha ,q.fortune was old version robot and ando is now version .sorry for others I just love the team so much and ando only chance are be a hard running and trackle box to box midfielder because his only talent is body strong and good balance.

Hi Costas, hope you are well

Hi Costas, hope you are well

    Red Devil

Where have you been? Fair points on Nasri, I still do not see it happening to be honest… I posted earlier about the subject…. Gifted player no doubt but he does seem to bottle it in big games but that may be due to the Arsenal mentality overall so I am not sure……. As for quoting King Eric, you left out the most important word at the end!

the shock of the year eh? :P

this Nasri thing is picking rapid pace..fingers crossed

  205. Costas says:

    @Red Devil

Hi mate. MG is doing well. He was here yesterday. As for Nasri, I know he used to play as a CM at Marseille, but I don’t think he is what we are looking for there. I don’t trust him to e a commanding midfielder in a 4-4-2, especially away from home. If the dilemma was Young or Nasri, I would have gone with Nasri. But since we are looking for a CM(especially one that’s good defensively), then I think we have to look elsewhere. Nasri could play in the centre in a 4-3-3, but that system wouldn’t benefit Rooney, Hernandez or Berba I feel.

  206. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

Morning Reds….Afternnoon UK Reds ……Good Evening Overseas Reds :)

A lot of Naseri rumors going around, but I can’t picture this happening, if it happens I’ll back Naseri for the sake of him being a United Player but until then he can get lost….bloody shark faced, croissent chewing, escargot sniffing gay sailor.

Just put a hat on the Buck tooth clown & Viola….Gay Sailor

Why are people suggesting Peter Parker to be signed? Doesn’t he and the Teletubbie both for relegation clubs and didn’t both recently play aweful against decent opposition for the national sides.
Wouldn’t trust either in a midfield 2 for us. But then again Knowing Lord Sir Doctor Ferguson
“Only God Knows, Maybe In The Future”

Personally I’d like us to sign Papa Bouba Diop to father Bebe with the support of Mame :P

  211. Cyril Sneer says:

@ Papi – Are we officially changing his name to Shark Face?

  212. Red Devil says:

    @Cedars Devil

    Hello there mate…how are you?

Nurses in pyjamas and stockings keeping you comfy ? :)

I keep reading all the posts mate, but work and meetings keep me very busy and I cant comment as much as I want to…and then because of the time zone differences I’m asleep when all of you are most active as otherwise i’d be fucked at work next day! But I love being part of ROM, I remember when it used to be a much quieter place a couple of years back, some of the regulars of that time aren’t that frequent nowadays – north stand, Suhayl, etc were good contributors. Fred has come back and started to post more regularly again

But some of the new guys are quite fantastic as well, really witty and funny
Smartalex has quite a way with words, balaji, zibbie, tonybee..real fun guys..the so called “clique’

Nowadays there’s too many WUMs and trolls and people like captaink9, YipYapStam (who I must admit took it to a whole new level yesterday!) bill knob and others etc are just a waste of time and energy, although their bitterness and bile in their posts makes for hilarious reading sometimes :D

The new trend of someone copying usernames to infiltrate the community and create confusion is quite disturbing to say the least….but these people wont succeed..

    @Costas

I know mate, he isn’t the typical midfielder who would fit into the 4-4-2. But I’m basing my opinion based on the assumption that we are still chasing Alexis Sanchez even after signing Young (which we presumably are because Gill led a delegation to Udinese long after Young was tipped to have agreed terms with us)

If we are still after Sanchez, then it seems Sir Alex has a particular role in mind for him and I can see Nasri as a good back up option for the Sanchez role in case he decides to move to barcelona

  213. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

Cedars – If its night time they should be tucked in bed not on RoM :)

Cyril – Why the hell not :) Im going to get Shark Face Tatoo’d on my chest now :P

  214. keano86 says:

I’ll be happy if we get 5/6 years out of him before he goes back to Spain.

Cleverly will surprise everyone this season, no more Midfielders he’s ready!

  215. RedMegleeker says:

Im surprised we are the only ones doing any real business at the minute. Having a squad together and in place before the pre-season starts is mightily beneficial.

Im already dreading that insane bastard Jim White being rolled out for the 31st August, avoiding that circus is surely the key.

  216. denton davey says:

Red Devil @ 12:43: “If we are still after Sanchez, then it seems Sir Alex has a particular role in mind for him and I can see Nasri as a good back up option for the Sanchez role in case he decides to move to barcelona”

Yeah. It makes sense to try and see these (supposed) transfer-targets from the point-of-view of SAF.

What does he have in mind ?

Is WayneBoy going to get the ScholesRole ?

Does he want to have a rotation among the four players who will play behind Chicharito and ahead of WayneBoy ?

And, if so, what does this mean in terms of his learning-lessons from the two defeats against Barcelona which he said was “the ultimate challenge” ?

    BarcelonaLite ?

    More attacking defending-from-the-front ?

If we don’t ask ourselves those questions then the (supposed) pursuit of Sanchez and Nasri makes no sense. One other thing puts those questions in perspective – SAF has become the ultimate “tinkerman” and he always seems impatient with success because he seems to believe that TheLads can do more. In that regard, change is evolution; change is constant; change is necessary to get to the top – and to stay at the top.

  217. CedarsDevil says:

    Red Devil

I am very well my friend… The nurse is long gone now that I have finished my medications and I do miss her! I do agree with you, we have lost some of the old guard here and I would add to your list Red Scot who always provided brilliant posts… I suppose its up to the rest of us to keep this place going and as fun as possible. Trolls will always appear and at times we ignore them at others we bash them, just depends on the mood…… The force is with the ‘clique’

  218. Saad says:

From his interview with MUTV, he sounds intelligent, matured, level-headed and has a calm demeanor. All signs of a good goalkeeper.

  219. denton davey says:

keano86 @ 12:49: “Cleverly will surprise everyone this season, no more Midfielders he’s ready!”

I’d like to share your optimism but what’s it based on ?

Tom Cleverley was OK – no more than that – for Wigan. He was terrific for Watford – in the second tier.

It’s a gigantic step up to being able to be a dominant player for UTD. First off, he’d have to be able to take game time away from Anderson, DarrenFletcherinho, Ashley Young, Nani, Valencia, SirRyanGiggs, and ThreeLungPark.

I’m sceptical. The signing of Ashley Young and the rumours linking UTD with Alexis Sanchez, Wesley Sneijder, and Samir Nasri seem to feed that scepticism. That’s four players who do pretty-much the same job as Tom Cleverley.

Do you really believe that Tom Cleverley can be chosen regularly ahead of – or, in place of – anyone from that group of veteran internationals ? I don’t.

  220. Zibbie says:

@smartalex part of your 8:21 post.
and actually we do consider Nasri as a suitable player.
This does not sit comfortably with me, so I’m trying to argue around it!

When this subject is broached I feel bile stirring, my stomach becomes unsettled falling short of creating and secreting saliva to lube the way…….

    Nasri = prelude to puking

  221. Cyril Sneer says:

@ Papi – I don’t like him but you’ve made me want us to sign him now just so I can get a Shark Face shirt and matching snood

Loada bollocks about modric on his way to united. What’s wrong with pogba? Got all the attributes to be top class. Big, powerful and very skilful! Wouldn’t pay spurs 20m for modric let alone 35!

  254. kanchelskis says:

Nasri’s agent is also Clichy’s agent. This is the only reason City are meeting Nasri’s agent.

  255. Cyril Sneer says:

  256. willierednut says:

    Nasri to city is bollox.

  257. rohan19 says:

pogba is inexperienced. he’ll be a beast of a player in a few years…
you’re absolutely right about modric… i think we’d do well to get a budding player rather than someone who’d cost 35mil

  258. Zelh says:

    Hi fellow reds :)
I heard some people were really believing in that TransferUpdate bastard?

  259. willierednut says:

Someone should ring that cunts neck! ^

  260. rohan19 says:

Arsene: Our new winger cost us 5 million. i call him our wonder player.
    Fergie: Why is that?
Arsene: Every time i see him play, i wonder why i bothered to buy him

  261. Costas says:

I like twitter, but there are times (like transfer rumors or when weird fucks like Devil is Red 19 stalk you around) where it’s more of a twatter.

  262. Fred says:

Fellas, I read in the Times today that Arsenal want Juan Mata. If this is true, in conjuction with us wanting Nasri, I’m baffled.

Mata is a better player than Nasri imho, plus is younger and has much more potential. Also, he is also not a disruptive little prima donna cunt like Nasri, and even has a much greater “re-sale value” (I know the Glazers love that.)

So why would we fund his transfer to Arsenal and take a fucking lemon off their hands in the process? :?

I would be dissappointed if this series of events transpires.

  263. Fred says:

    *disappointed

  264. rohan19 says:

Devil is red 19 was epic…. a true arse and an absolute bigot..
he can join the wall of shame with bill knob

  265. Another Vintage Year says:

    @rohan19
Agree he’s inexperienced but he’s been running the show in the reserves. Not saying he shud be put straight into the team but ease him in with carling cup games. Don’t think we could justify 35m when u have the likes of pogba and others chomping at the bit!

  266. willierednut says:

Not you Zelh, in case you’re wondering lol. Transfercockhead! :)

  267. Fred says:

It seems I missed this whole “Transfer Update” Twitter WUM nonsense, but I’m actually glad it has happened. Those of you who fell for it, it serves you right and I hope you have learned your lesson. :P

  268. Ash says:

I can easily see that Fergie wants united to dominated for many years. His signings show that.
I remember in 07 season when we lost to milan in the semifinal we signed 4 players and won the champions league next season.Fergies Idea was clear that he wanted united to dominate for many years.
He was partially successful but couldn’t succeed that much because
hargo was present more in hospital than in the ground
    Tevez became a cunt
Nani and anderson are the two who establish themselves but not that much.
Now fergie is doing the same thing by signing players.Hernandez will evolve into a better player like cristiano did and same will happen with nani and ando.
Frankly speaking I am very happy witgh our transfer business.
    UNITED 20/4

  269. Costas says:

City have been relatively quiet in the transfer market thus far. I think that’s why we are trying to get our business out of the way now. Before they come along and they enflate the samn thing again.

Good line of thinking by Fred regarding Mata and Nasri.

    @rohan

True, but they may be the same person. Nutjobs act in mysterious ways.

  270. rohan19 says:

@Another Vintage Year : yeah you’re right.. im pretty sure thats what fergie’s gonna do.. if morrison sorts his head he’s got oodles of potential as well.. 35mil for modric can’t be justified in any case.. the trend in this market has been to buy quality youth and experienced at that too.. so i do seem to think we’ll get a young player with some experience..
im against the idea of jack rodwell… he’s the archetypal english player.. highly rated while young fades away after a while…

  271. kanchelskis says:

Does anyone else think that Fergie is convinced that Anderson is the one who can be our special midfielder? We all know how much promise he’s shown, but has always been undermined by problems with injury or attitude. Maybe Fergie has seen enough to think that, if he stays focused and fit, he’s the answer to the midfield problem? Just a thought.

  272. Devil310 says:

I say we call him Naseri until we sign him. This whole proper pronounciation of his name is uncalled for

  273. willierednut says:

Mata’s not leaving Valencia this summer. Not sure what his buy out clause is set at? I’m guessing, it’s a tidy sum.

  274. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

Lets sign Schweini …….on Football Manager !

Honestly What Happened to signing Valbuena or did his Boat sink? 27 apps, 4 goals & 3 assists
Valbuena would jump at the chance to move from France to England, telling Canal+ “Manchester [United]? I would cycle there.” 27 years old in september £20M max most likely to seal the deal. He could play an iniesta/scholes role for us *SIGH* “Only God Knows”

    or Maybe Andre Ayew

  275. Fred says:

Very off-topic here but yesterday I installed the latest Windows updates. Among them was this one: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2545698 which had the effect of changing the fonts on this website and others, not only in IE but also in Firefox.

If anyone else has noticed this and finds the new font annoying, you should uninstall this update; that’s what I did. :)

  276. willierednut says:

I hate windows up dates!

  277. Costas says:

I never install any updates. :D

  278. Fred says:

@Willie – that’s good enough for me. Time to get used to the idea of Nasri playing for us I think!

Paddy Crerand has been raving about him actually. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Arsenal-s-Samir-Nasri-is-just-what-Manchester-United-need-says-Paddy-Crerand-article754152.html

I’m willing to trust Paddy on this one. Welcome to United, Little Prince!

  279. rohan19 says:

@FRED… i know what you are saying… and i kinda agree with you… however if it is true about our interest in Nasri (and he is a shit head) then i guess he’s shown he can do it in the Premiership…. isn’t Mata a bit lightweight or am i thinking of someone else… im sure i heard rumours that he is the one with some kind of issue about leaving home… didn’t he reject playing WC / EC because he couldn’t leave Spain….. and thats why he hasn’t moved to bigger club…. if so not sure its the character we want at OT.

I might totally have the wrong dude… in which case i apologise.

  281. willierednut says:

You’ve got the right idea Costas lol. fucking annoying.

    @Fred

That’s it then, Paddy’s in the know! ;)

  282. rohan19 says:

im still quite uncertain about nasri being sold by wenger.
that’d be a body blow to arsenal..
one step closer to long term mediocrity..

  283. Fred says:

@Kanchelskis – no, I don’t believe the boss sees Anderson that way. Has Anderson given us any reason to think of him that way? He has been here for 4 years now and hasn’t kicked-on at all. I’d love for him to become the player we all hoped he would be, but how much longer are we going to have to wait?

  284. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

Forget Modric, Shark Face & Lee Bowyer….United have dropped the ball with a Player we basically already bought….remember back! Who the fuck did we reject?

You Might not Remember but Does Adem Ljajic Ring a Bell?
The boy is very young, has vision, is fast, silky, classy, Tall and Strong. Reminds me of a Young Kaka of 2004-05.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeErAY6U08o
I think United didn’t have the balls to complete this deal because Tosic was a gamble & at £8m Ljajic would be a another big gamble.

However they did summon up the balls to buy bebe at £7M & he went on to organise several Party events at United Until Besiktas edhis services to prepare for their Title Celebration Ceremony.

  285. Zelh says:

Papii – We didn’t get a workpermit for Ljaijc. That was the problem.

  287. Saad says:

    Breaking news:

We are close to signing Pierliugi Gollini.

    No, it’s not a typo. “Pierluigi GO-LLI-NI”! He’s an Italian U-17 goalkeeper.

Wonder if he’s bald and has eyes like The Penguin??

  288. Another Vintage Year says:

    @Rohan19
Spot on about rodwell. Don’t rate him. If he was any other nationality there wouldn’t have been a word about him.

  289. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

Zelh – I dont believe that for a second because we got one for tosic so why not Ljajic. They both came from the same league & team.

We also should have gave tosic a chance, at least 2 years, i just think United’s Debt played a role in the signing, Pulling out and departure of both players. Tosic has a great techinique, fast and had good off the ball movements.

Hopefully we don’t make the same mistakes again because those two are really promising young players now and Ljajic’s value has probably doubled because how he is at fiorentina playing regularly like tosic in Cska moskow

  290. Zibbie says:

@Fred Paddy sounds like a Red. I read that as well, looking for that side of things. #4 coming in this window can lead to 3 4CL? Not that any SAF signing is for winning the CL just making Man Utd a continuing force.

  291. Saad says:

    @Fred

This is Ando’s make-or-break season. He either gets 10-15 goals + 10 assists in 40+ starts this season or he gets shipped out for 10m pounds.

  292. Zelh says:

Papii – I don’t rate Tosic at all. Ljaijc looks like a good young player, but Tosic never.

  293. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

    *NOW HE IS AT FIORENTINA

Thats it im fucking off from RoM for a day…this disconnected brain sent from tiscali has taken the mick.
I’m taking this useless device back, fucking mush brain ! makes mistakes consistanly.

  294. willierednut says:

Papii – We couldn’t afford 10 million for Ljaijc? Come on!

  295. Zibbie says:

  296. willierednut says:

Andro? Is that Anderson’s bro? Lol.

  297. Zibbie says:

@willie will Man Utd have transfer business done by the US tour? The big one that is, an 8 million wild card I think will come as well.

  298. Zibbie says:

Yo Bro, the man with no fro. He, Anderson dreads no lock’s.

  299. willierednut says:

Zibbie – Yo bro! 3 transfers in the bag and one more to go mate. The big one!! Nasri? Sneijder? Rat man(Modric)? :)

Tosic was sold on for just about the same amount as UTD paid to get a look, run-the-rule, and so on. It might well be the case that, on closer inspection, with Tosic “what-you-saw-wasn’t-what-you-got” and the scouting department had second-thoughts about another guy from Serbia who had only played in their domestic league.

Zibbie – yes, it’s safe to say that Paddy Crerand is a true RED. He played over 400 games for us, won two titles and the European Cup in 1968. ;) He has been working for the club on MUTV pretty much since its inception and is a very proud and vocal supporter of the club. He is also no-nonsense and doesn’t take any shit from anybody.

  320. vishy2in says:

    Hey Guys,
I have been following this site for a while but never really contributed as yet.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but havent contributed yet, so am making up for lost time!

    vishy2in

    Welcome mate!

Ignore Fred, he’s just pissed that he never got a mention. He’s probably pulling your leg!

Thanks for the excellent contribution. Your valid points were well constructed, and your comment was sensible, polite and considered. With this approach you will win many friends on RoM.

All of what you say makes sense, however, informed sources tell us to expect at least 1 more signing. We are told that Wesley Sneijder, Modric, and Nasri are the preferred targets. Of these, only Sneijder sits well with all those contributors you mention, although an unexpected target is also very likely.

We will all be happy with Sir Alex’ choice, and in fact I’m surprised that it seems likely that our spending isn’t over.

Anyway, welcome to the family vishy2in! Welcome!

  325. smartalex says:

There we go! Fred at 19:06 has addressed his over-zealous reaction at 18:27.

  326. denton davey says:

vishy2in @ 18:11: “spend millions on players they have never seen to beat the new obsession- Barca.”

Actually, SAF was the one who said that beating Barcelona was “the ultimate challenge”. So, it’s not an “obsession” so much as the hurdle standing between UTD and world-domination.

I also think that you’d be surprised at which players some of us have seen – and rate.

There’s more to the world of footie than the EPL and guys (like, for example, Tom Cleverley) who are successful on loan at Wigan aren’t likely to be the be-all and end-all in facing a significantly stiffer challenge. On the other hand, someone like – just saying – Alexis Sanchez or Daniele De Rossi has been fantastic in other leagues. Sanchez and De Rossi are considered to be among the very best players in the world. Guys like those two are elite players – hardly journeymen or nobodies.

In the next few weeks, the Copa America is going to be on – watch it and see some fabulous players.

  327. willierednut says:

Denton let Sanchez go. He is a greedy bastard and will be in Spain next year. You really don’t like tom do you? Well I reckon you may get a pleasent surprise. You seem to be judging him by his under twenty one performances. So by that method is rooney shite following the south africa debacle? Tom is a great little player.

  333. vishy2in says:

Hey guys, thanks for the response.
Sorry willie, fred and the other contributors who i have forgotten to mention!

@ Denton- Mate, for starters, I wasn’t mentioning you. I said it was for those who hadn’t seen the players and were still harping . Anyway, no offence, but I think you underestimate how many players I have seen and rate. The football i see, apart from the usual european and asian leagues, you won’t even know it existed- The Indian domestic league!
In an ideal world I would love the best players of the world at united but the whole point is they may be the best players in the world but they might not fit united’s game.
Case in point-Berba- i love his game and he is technically more gifted but i believe that hernandez suits united’s play more than him.
So if you ask me, i will stay shweinsteiger, rossi et al should be at united. are they gonna come? No. Will they fit in? Who in God’s name knows! But the thing to remember is,the last time we spent huge on a midfielder who was not from the EPL,veron. he wasn’t that big a hit.

  334. willierednut says:

Sorry for what? Lol. You don’t have to mention everyone mate. There’s too many great posters on here, to give a shout out. Happy posting, anyway.

  344. rohan19 says:

@vishy2in : great post mate.. agree with you.. but i do not believe that the barca protocol is on fergie’s mind presently.. from what i can see it seems like he’s emulating the spanish model.. that is developing a core team of english internationals who understand each other well.. hence the young and jones purchases..soon we’ll see that young rooney tom jones smalling will all be full england internationals..
that will be very helpful in the future..
about the midfielder.. i think we will buy one.. definitely not two. at our great club its always been an adapt and evolve policy.. there are no replacements.. players evolve into seniors positions..
we’;; need 2 midfielders to slot in the scholes position… i think those will be the new signing and ando..
fletch and carrick are already doin a great job and now they have jones for competition..
so all in all i think we are pretty well set for no 20

does anyone else feel the midfielder we’re about to buy won’t be a clear cut dm or cm but someone who can slot into both positions?? seeing the recent purchases i feel so cause fergie’s valuing versatility over everything else… well the old man has a shrewd idea and his shrewd ideas generally are scarily accurate… here’s hoping for the best…. cheers

  345. Zibbie says:

@fred thanks for the Paddy link and knowledge.

  346. schmikes says:

Hi, I’m new on here and thought i’d share opinions with fellow utd supporters.

On the De Gea signing; he is obviously young and relatively inexperienced. However, he’s an immensely talented young goalie with huge potential and his performances for atletico have been excellent. His ‘clean sheet’ stats are not very impressive but atletico having a crap defence certainly did not help him.

What is encouraging is the the amount of shots he has stopped in relation to the amount of goals he has conceded. I think we may have signed a budding shot stopper extraordinaire (if the stats and videos are anything to go by) who is going to become one of the best in the world. Let’s just hope he adapts quickly and enjoys his, hopefully long and fruitful stint, at old trafford.

I have also been very pleased with the acquisitions of Jones and Young. These two will add a new dimension to the squad through their respective defensive and offensive versatility. I think these two will definitely intensify the fight for positions in the first team….and that can only be a good thing.

As we all know, we still need a central midfield player with a bit of guile, who can spot a pass and knows where the back of the net is. There is continual speculation regarding Modric, Sneijder and Nasri but I don’t think we will actually sign any of them.

Modric is settled in London and looks set join to join the west London branch of the KGB. Sneijders wage demands are astronomical and, in my humble opinion, wouldn’t fit at utd as he plays to advanced and would take up a lot of Rooneys position ‘in the hole’. As for Nasri, I think he’s a great player! but Wenger will not want to sell one of his prized assets to utd. I don’t think he will necessarily want to sell him to shitty citeh either but at least he will be safe in the knowledge that Nasri would spend most of his time on the bench there. Got to say though, Nasri is a player who could pull some strings for us and would be a tremendous signing.

We will definitely need a little bit more than just Anderson to fill Paul Scholes boots….not that anybody ever could. Although I do feel that if he stays fit and clear of injury, we could finally see the best of Andersons vision and beauty of a left foot. However I think its safe to say that his right foot will just never develop…Bobby Charlton needs to have a word methinks.

So, as a closing thought to my incredibly long first post, is this. Wayne Rooney plays such a deep role at Utd and can pass a ball better than anyone at the club. I think we should get Rooney in the ‘playmaker’ role and buy another striker who can play up with the little pea. I’ve heard Benzema might be available and I know Sir Alex was interested in him before. Rooney feeding Chicharito and Benzema sounds pretty awesome to me.

What do you think? and sorry for the length of this post, I’ll make further posts much shorter.

    Come on Utd!
