David de Gea was named Man of the Match in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon. After a strong first 45 minutes from United, which saw Marcus Rashford score just before half-time, United were put under plenty of pressure in the second half. De Gea was equal to anything that the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli threw at him though.
We won the game against a top team like Tottenham, we controlled the first half but in the second half they put on a lot of pressure and had chances. I was feeling very well with the first two saves, it was a great game.
I don’t even remember some of the saves so I can’t pick a best. The manager brought some happiness, the players are playing well and the team is very strong now. We know how to control the games, how to keep the ball, how to create chances, which is very good for us. This is the real Manchester United.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has been linked with the United job for next season, was full of praise for De Gea after the game.
It was amazing and I think De Gea made 11 saves, which is unbelievable. In football, sometimes you deserve to win and don’t and other times, you do not and you win. That is why we love football.
United were deeper in the second half, but to play against that system it was amazing to create 11 chances in the second half. I feel so proud and I am leaving Wembley with a good feeling.
