David de Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for years and a couple of summers ago was minutes away from finalising a deal to join the Spanish giants. Thankfully for us, the paperwork didn’t go through on time, so De Gea stayed at Manchester United and extended his contract.

De Gea’s current deal expires in 2019, sparking rumours that a move to Real Madrid could be on the cards again, but reports from Spain suggest that the goalkeeper is happy where he is.

Spanish newspaper, El Confidencial, claims that the last time Florentino Perez made contact with Jorge Mendes, the goalkeeper told his agent: “Real Madrid? I’m the goalkeeper of Manchester United and Spain. What more could I ask for?”

De Gea reportedly appreciates how well supported he is by the fanbase, even after his almost transfer to Madrid, and likes having more privacy than he would if he moved to the Spanish capital.
