Where is Michael Carrick??? He’s been our best player this season, no doubt! It would be a joke if he won’t be in the European Championship this summer, but I wouldn’t be surpised if he does’nt. SICK!!!

Hmm the managers press conference is again on Thursday – a day earlier than normal. Is Fergie planning another 2 day break away before the Swansea game? Is Ireland next I wonder…They’ve been to Scotland and Wales. Personally I think its a load of rubbish and a fukin piss take! What’s the fucking point?

  25. King Eric says:

keano99 – Yes mate Lindergard looked decent last night and made two good penalty saves. Solid keeper. Weird reserve side last night. No keane, Tunni , etc. All returnees from loan like Brady , King etc.

  26. byron1970 says:

OK so here it goes. I know this off topic with the thread but I’m having serious difficulty dealing with Monday night’s result. What the fuck was Sir Alex thinking with his team selection. I mean what the fuck. I love the man, he’s a genius, a legend and long may he stay in the job but that doesn’t mean he’s beyond criticism.

There can scarcely have been a United fan on the planet that didn’t scratch his or her head when they saw the team sheet. Of all the possibilities I went through in my head before kick off, I didn’t envisage such a team selection. This is nothing against Park, the poor lad hadn’t starting a game in so long I’d forgotten about him as an option. No Valencia, what in the name of God was that about, it’s not like he doesn’t do his job defensively. Giggs in the starting line up, I had considered this but changed my opinion about starting him when I read some common sense posts on this site. I refuse to blame one defender because I thought they were all outstanding on the night (granted Jones could have done better in the attacking third). The fact is if you invite on so much pressure something like a goal from a corner kick is bound to happen eventually, I don’t care if you’re Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic or Paolo Maldini.

I’m afraid I’ve lost all hope now, simply because it’s out of our hands, and I consider myself to be a fairly optimistic fan, remaining so even after the Everton result. I simply can’t see City not winning their two games now. I don’t rate Newcastle as highly as some.

Sir Alex we are all forever in your debt, and you’ve earned the right to make mistakes like Monday night a hundred times over, but that’s what it was, a mistake, plain and simple.

Apologies all for being so morbid, I believe I’m currently stuck in stage 4 of the 5 stages of grief, Depression.

    UNITED!!!!!

  27. King Eric says:

Giggs – Ha ha. The gay Lime Bar. Quality. Yes mate put 30 votes in for Parker and wait with baited breath for his perfomance tonight. I love “Scotty ” Parker.

I thought you both had that B&B booked in Brighton this weekend?!

  31. WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – Said to my old man after the game, Keane would’ve had Toure for breakfast. If you think of big Pat at Arsenal? Keano is the only one who could keep him on a leash. Handled him most times. Most other midfielders were intimidated. Keano never was!

  32. booandman says:

Cedars, you can marry her matey, I just want to be her farewell performance on her hen party surrounded by all her hot girlfriends ( who are more than welcome to join in..;) )

Fuck. No Fergie in the most improved manager? I shaked the computer, held it upside down and everything, thought there was something wrong with the site. But no….no Fergie in there, what the fuck!!! Is he the benchmark and that´s why u can´t vote on him to be the most improved? Yes he is the enlightened, the special one, the old fart, Darth Vader for the good side. Guess the right answear on that question of the quiz must be Pardew then? Otherwise it was a walk in the park.

The right answears; DDG, Evans, Tony V, Rooney, Fergie.

    @Mikekelly, Cedars

It would have been easier to pick out a lesser known midfielder from that pack, but I mentioned Lampard (whom I used to like as a player about 3 years ago) just because it was the most obsurd choice. If he’s in it after the season he’s had, Carrick should be in it thrice.

I could be wrong but I really feel that the main reason why Carrick has been underrated by the media and England in recent years is due to the amount of abuse he got from some United fans. You can’t expect neutrals to appreciate you if the fans of your own club don’t.

  47. FletchTHEMAN says:

Not sure I have this right, but think you lot should be hoping for Bolton to nick points from Spurs and Newcastle to nick points of Chavs in todays fixtures.

This will set up a situation were Newcastle will have believe v City and QPR will be in a relegation dog fight on final day, best if Bolton wins it to be honest since QPR will then be 2 points back of safety.

United still have to win their games but we can’t be wishing any luck on city for their run in.

    @Shebangsthedrums

Yeah, he scored in his first game after the ACON. And that was the last time he scored. 1 in 13. Pretty weird. He looked the part against us. Maybe Cisse has unsettled him.

  158. Fred the RED says:

Tiote out for remaining games and Cisse’ limping off. Safe to say we haven’t been lucky this season and the pitch tonight was heavy and several players will be feeling it now. Doubt Newcastle players will feel fresh on Sunday.
Everything is going against us somehow.

  159. xol says:

I just thought of a scenario where Pardew replaces Tiote with Obertan against City and the unspeakable happens. haha, help me Obertan – you’re my only hope.

  160. samuel - united WE stand says:

Some people out there still question what a brilliant finisher pappiss demba cisse is.. 10million, what a snip!. Another double in their next match coupled with a victory would do nicely but not hanging my hopes on that.

  168. Fred the RED says:

Henry Winter reports from Chelsea tunnel that Tiote is fine and only has a scar on his head. Somehow I doubt that he will play on Sunday anyway.

  169. Mikekelly12 says:

Well, nothing we can do about it now. Ce sera sera….. Or is it cera cera?? Anyhow, what will be, will be!! But as with Norwich, I doubt Newcastle will be capable of beating the bitter fuckers! Too much to lose now, they won’t fuck up.

  170. WillieRedNut says:

Just seen Cisse’s second goal? He hit across the ball from an impossible angle. Scorcher! :P

  171. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

Fuck me Arsenal could be outed by spurs and toon, its very close.

  172. Joffrey Baratheon says:

@Fred The Red: don’t be silly about everything going against us. Yes we have had our injuries but let’s not hide behind it. If we lose the title we will have only ourselves to blame for a truly shocking defensive display at home to Everton, not Tiote getting injured.

  173. FletchTHEMAN says:

Well done Newcastle, 0-2 win over Chavs. Should be well motivated v City.

The Enemy Of My Enemy! Get In

  174. Phil Jones' Birdshit Streaks says:

What a pair of goals from Cisse! Great result for them. I hope they get a result against Citeh now. I think Citeh will be scared, that’s for sure

  175. orez says:

Newcastle victory is good news IMO. Should give a lot of hope agains shity. It’s still fucking unbeliveable that we lost 8 point lead in 4 games. I really don’t feel that United deserved to win it this year, but I will not complain if we do, it’s just doesn’t seem right that a team who played decent football only for couple of months and had several very bad humiliations in one season and were destroyed in Europe will become champions. Even if we winn I will think of this season as a very disaponting one. bar the 8:2 score against arse there wasn’t a single memorable game and just too many grinding out games. Major chnages required in the summer.

  176. Joffrey Baratheon says:

You lot are as bad as Mancini with this “it’s over” rubbish. The fat lady has not sung. Newcastle are gonna throw a spanner in City’s works come Sunday. I thought we’d lose at City but City’s away form has been none too clever and they have yet to clear the final hurdle. We’ll see come Sunday.

  177. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

I would love united to go after higuain

  179. Phil Jones' Birdshit Streaks says:

Totally agree Giggs12. Higuain would be perfect for us. Him and Rooney up top… shivers just thinking about it!

  180. Costas says:

Pardew reckons Tiote should be fit for Sunday.

  189. King Eric says:

    Giggs. Frank Leopard eh? Ha.

Tiote will be fine and will have that fat cunt Toure in his pocket. To be honest the way our lads performed the barcodes will make a better fist of it. For Park read Ben Arfa. For Giggs horror show read Cabaye or Tiote in midfield. For Rooney who was diabolical read Cisse. Will put in better performances than our lads I hope.

God I love Pardew. Always have!

Willie. Ha. Kerry Dixon and Paul Kitson.

City at home would hammer Newcastle however generally speaking on the road they are dogshit. The Mike Ashley arena will be rocking. This aint over yet. Ever the eternal optimist.

I want to ram a title down that fucking cunt Gallagher’s throat.

Oh and 15 clean sheets for toon. They are no mugs this season.

  190. Mikekelly12 says:

Love pardews spin round air punch celebration too!! Always have done! Giggs12 was thinking about which body stocking to wear on Sunday when he let his leopard faux pa out the bag !

  195. The team that wouldn't die says:

    I just had a revelation;
    WE WILL WIN THE LEAGUE!
City will drop points in both games.

  196. Shebangsthedrums says:

    Congrats Ronnie, pleased for him.

  197. Costas says:

I am starting to feel Cheik!

Personally I’ve never liked Pardew, but if they beat City, I’ll stop calling him a cunt that often. ;)

  198. United Till I Die says:

Pardew is only one point off 3rd place / guaranteed CL football, and he’s an ambitious sod so its likely he’ll get something from City (very likely imo). Really don’t buy the hype about City being irresistible, especially on the road and especially when they need to chase the win. Mancini inflicted Newcastle’s first defeat but the scoreline flattered them – this game at St James will be very different. Our lads need to pick themselves and and win our remaining games. We are Champions are all. Any “ambitious” Toon wanting a move to OT this summer could do worse than turn up this Sunday.

  199. FletchTHEMAN says:

Congrats to Ronaldo and Real. First La Liga in 4 years.
Beckham was there for the last one.
Cristiano player of the season for this one.
Probably can’t do it without a pilfered United player. Just sayin!

Imagine we would have had 20 and 21 in the bag by now if Cristiano had stayed.
But we’re United and we do what we want !

  200. King Eric says:

Mike. Ha ha. Yeah just meeting Giggs in the queer bar, sorry Lime bar if you fancy it then having a saunter up to Platts.

My guts cannot take much more of this season….why do utd do this to their fans every year.. last year it was going 2 -0 downt to blackpool and west ham before playing…

My head says its gone but like any UTD fan you never leave till final whistle my heart says… we CAN!!!

Please Please Mr Pardew Sir….if you win then you can have a place in Champs Lg as a reward… sounds like a great deal

  204. King Eric says:

Pleased for Ronnie but no congratulations from me for those horrible bastards Madrid and Mourinho. Glad they knocked Barca off their stride but I won’t be congratulating them. Tapping fucking Ronnie up for two seasons.

Oh I was joking by the way when I said I have always like Pardew. As most will know I feel quite the opposite but IF he does raise his team for Sunday I will be eternally grateful. It will go one of two ways. They hold their nerves and draw or beat City or their arses go and City hammer them. Hope its the former obviously but I hate relying on other sides but right now I will take it!

  205. Costas says:

Having watched the video posted by the Scottish Wonder, I have to say that Delio Rossi should get fired tomorrow. Ljajic did react in a childish manner, but a manager is similar to a farther figure. I don’t remember Fergie kicking Ronaldo’s ass after he threw away his jacket after he was taken off against City.

  206. FletchTHEMAN says:

Costas, I heard that Delio Rossi was fired. But maybe that isn’t confirmed. Has to be a suspension in it at the least.

    Screen grab of Cisse goal.
Newcastle 2 zip over Chavs. Get in son! Let’s be having more that next week v City!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buZMkULu7ZU

Rooney tweeted he thinks it is goal of the season so far.

  207. Jigpig says:

I love it when a plan comes together but by Sunday at 6 pm we should be be a bit closer to where we belong. We may have to play 5 up front but what the hell we will have to go for it and at least take it to the last game of the season.
Sparky will also want to put a spanner in the works if he gets the chance.

  208. Shebangsthedrums says:

If Cisse scores against city, I think I might be changing my voting for best striker on the EPL talk awards.

  209. united>england says:

Never thought i’d say this but COME ON NEWCASTLE!!!! Knowing them they will probably bottle it like all the previous newcastle teams of the past but if a team can go to stamford bridge and beat chelsea (a team who are playing out of their skins atm) then surely they can beat the bitters back at their ground! BELIEVE

  210. iced earth says:

“We deserve our billing,” Pardew said. “As much as Man City deserve their billing as title contenders we go [into the game] on an even playing field.“With our best away performance under our belt and if we play like we did against United at home with our fans it makes us special.”

  211. byron1970 says:

Allow me to refer to my previous post at 19:14 where I said I’ve lost all hope. Of course there’s hope, we can still win this title. Stage 5, Acceptance.

Good night all, COME ON UNITED!!!!!

  212. Fred the RED says:

Surely the title for Mourinho tonight that completed him taking titles in all the 3 big leagues tells us he is the only man that could ever take over from Fergie. I just wonder how much patience he’s got but a duel between him and Mancini could well be the most fascinating we have ever seen in football.
Is there anyone among United fans here that prefer that the title stays in town rather than it heading down to London?
Manchester as the new power centre of english football must be something to celebrate for sure.

  213. iced earth says:

ajax are champions again, but in italy is not over again milan close the gap, buffon made a bad mistake that see juve lose 2 point
hope for another twist in epl, cabaye to score a wonder goal and papise another i still belive
    i am praying everyday

  214. iced earth says:

    Fred the RED
agree with you about Mourinho taking over from fergie, but mancini wil be sacked,i don t rate him as a good manager,

  215. Fred the RED says:

    @Joffrey Baratheon

Everything plays a part of course but yes we have been awful this season and I haven’t enjoyed it one bit so when we played like we did against Everton when we scored those goals I did enjoy seeing us play again.
No doubt we threw it away in a way we’ve never done before. Depending on Newcastle feels hopeless and the last time I was hoping they would do us a favour was when they played Blackburn at the end of the 1994/1995 season and they nearly gave United a helping hand.
Normally I would rate Newcastle as the least likely side to be able to help us out but what is different this time is that they are playing for something that would make their season one of the greatest in a long time. I only wonder if geordies prefer United or City winning the league and my guess is they prefer City although they would love to fuck it up for City and might be a bit anti towards all the cash City have.

  216. Fred the RED says:

    @iced earth

Yes of course one day he will be sacked but a part of me is hoping he will stay just like I hope King Kenny will ;-)
If City win it then Mancini will stay and maybe that is good news for us after all.

  217. kev e says:

Fuck me… that is some goal!! Go Barcodes… no problems with Newcatle for me… Ashley is a dick, and Keegan was a bell end but they’re a proper team with mental fans. Hope they smash City just for the crack… I’d like to think it would do us a favour but this season it feels like if City slip up again we’ll just polish the platter and hand it straight back! Just to put us lot through the wringer again!

Forget these European wonder players who fail to perform… just buy half the Newcastle team…

Can’t fucking handle the thought of the chavs winning the Champions League… This ‘rather see an English team win’ shit isn’t for me… We don’t want anyone else with their hands on that trophy…

  218. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

I wouldn’t back Newcastle to take points off Shitty…QPR have a better chance.
Without Tiote, No chance, expect the Barcodes to be spanked !

    CMON UNITED…lets score 9 against Swansea :D

  220. NBI Red Onion says:

Cisse!! PLEASE do some of those against City, I hope you have a few more wonder goals in store – please please let City lose or draw against Newcastle, if we fuck up the last two games THEN I accept we deserved to lose but please, please one more chance….

Re Carrick, he has been fantastic this season but it tends to be goal scoring and attacking MF who get the awards or else real tough tackling rotweilers in defence. The problem with Carrick’s role is that it has none of that flair and drama that people like to see in England and his contribution is not always obvious. Parker goes flying into the tackles with emotion all over his face that Carrick intercepts coolly. There are no kodak momemts of his game, other than on the rare occasions he scores, so it’s easy to forget what he does and his personality is a mild one so no headlines there. Even in terms of United awards it is the guys with goals and assists or flair or real defensive bloodhounds that get Club awards and the Club loves a winger. However I think after a hiatus of one of 2 years this is the season where he has won back plaudits from United fans generally. He was a key key reason we got to over 80 points and Scholes was the other key.

  221. NBI Red Onion says:

@ Kevin – that is too funny, wonder what he said to the Manager to piss him off that much the old guy really pounded him, if it was Mancini he would have just taken it, waived his fluffy hair and played the guy.

  222. denton davey says:

King Eric @ 23:29: “City at home would hammer Newcastle however generally speaking on the road they are dogshit. The Mike Ashley arena will be rocking. This aint over yet. Ever the eternal optimist.”

THAT would be just perfect – the bitters would have to choke on their bile, the ABUs would just shit themselves, and all your pals on TalkRadio would be apoplectic.

Cisse’s two goals were magical – the first showed his two-footedness and fantastic confidence; the second left me gobsmacked. I couldn’t believe that he did – and he meant to do it, too. Simply awesome.
Justs about the best goal I’ve ever seen – and it was against CSKALondon AND it meant that the RentBoyz can only get CL footie next year by beating Bayern in Munich. That seems unlikely BUT a lot of what has happened during the last month has been wildly unpredictable.

  223. denton davey says:

JigPig @ 23:24: “Sparky will also want to put a spanner in the works if he gets the chance.”

YEAH ! that result might mean that they’d come second, six points behind UTD. Would that be great, or what ?

  224. Sandeep1878 says:

    Morning reds around the world,

We all know Alan Pardew takes tips from Sir Alex,

may be time for him to pay back this Sunday? ;)

Well, i dont think it will happen but,

what is interesting is Chelsea yet to play Liverpool away in league..

Meaning, the UCL hopes of Newcastle rest completely on their game against Bitters..

so expect Magpies to be firing..and i hope this cunt Mancini goes there for DRAW..

    ##

If there was ever a time ti pray,

    pray now for,

    Ben Arfa
    Santon
    Cisse
    Ba
    Cabaye
    Collocini etc ;)

    ###

For me, if any one can, then its Cisse and Ben arfa..

  225. denton davey says:

I’m still buzzing about the Cisse goal BUT an honourable mention should go to Luka Modric for his goal against Bolton – a “merely excellent” strike as opposed to something from intergalactic central park.

  226. Ash says:

Honestly speaking Newcastle have a strong squad. I expect them to take some points off city. I don’t know why buy my heart as well as my mind say New castle will draw or beat city. Look Its not only city who has to win but even Newcastle will want to win.It will be a good match. Ccmonn newcastle.

Having said that I feel United should have won the tittle by now.

  227. Sandeep1878 says:

    Ash,

we have bottled it big time..

    Denton,

    yup, stunning goal by Modric..

  228. eric keane says:

I have more hope from QPR,
However it would be bloody brilliant if the barcodes get a result. Wankini’s fluffy hair would stand on its end!
    Sandeep, ash
    Good morning guys!

  229. Ash says:

    Sandeep

Good morning mate. Absolutely we have fucked up our chances of winning #20 in a huge way. And we have to blame ourselves. It has been unlike United performance. But even now if we win the tittle then credit goes to our boys for winning it. We should not forget that we have been badly affected by injuries this season.
Whatever may be the outcome one thing is very much clear that we need new investments. I feel we will spend another 60 odd millions this time also. This squad is not good enough to challenge in all competition next season.

    erik keane

Morning mate. I will put my money on newcastle to help us than QPR. With all respect to QPR I feel beating City at home is very difficult. Newcastle are a very tough side to face especially at home. Remember Newcastle will also be fighting for 3 points. They know finishing 4th may not be good enough as if chelski wins the Champs league then they will not get chance to play in Champs league (Correct me if I am wrong). They will be aiming to finish 3rd. And with their current form I will fancy them to beat City and finish 3rd.

  230. Sandeep1878 says:

Most assists in 11-12 (top-5 leagues in Europe):

    Messi: 29,
    Ozil: 23,
    Fabregas, Mata & Silva: 18,
    Ribery & Hazard: 17

Messi scored 68 goals this season to beat all time European top flight record of Muller..

  231. Sandeep1878 says:

Ash, Eric Keane – good morning pals.

    Ash,

Absolutely agree that to be where we are after all the shitty injuries we have had this season, its incredible..

got knocked out of 4 cups..inconsistent performances,

Injuries to Vidic and Fletch (vital and big game players)..

we havent been at our best but still good enough to match the petro dollar cunts..

Just imagine if we play consistently and have a fitter squad with couple of additions, we will be ruling the game again..no doubt in that..

and yeah we need to bring that X factor in the team, we should start killing the games rather than throwing them in lethargically and complacently..

I take this opportunity to thank Sir Alex for getting the best out of what is there in our players..majorly for his ability to get the best out of the lads and partly to Glazers stand on spending..

We need to sharpen our tactics, esp in Europe..

    ###

Tom C, Jonesy, Smalling, Rafael, De Gea, Evans, Danny

these all are young lads, they would learn a lot from this year..

we are fighting the league with the resources we have and obviously we cant have the spending power of Petro dollars for good as well as bad reasons..

I dont care what Media writes shit like change in Power in Manchester..my arse..

They should be ashamed to write that,

any sane man will know the injury problems we have had this season, esp in key areas..

Mancini said they deserve to win the league because they topped the table for 28 games..

fuck you..500 Millions spent and 28 weeks of table topping makes you champion?

as much as i hate to say this and it hurts, City might win it this time but i m really sure that we will be more stronger next season..

    ##

RedNev, Van Der Sar, JOS, Brown, Scholesy – that was too much to lose IMO, we have had the impact this season..

Our primary focus should be at least a semi in next season UCL and a league win..

  232. Red Devil says:

Some brilliant posts here and on the other thread last night…
Many of the old regulars showing up and the debates and discussions all fantastic
    Some more of that please…

Possibly the upside if we dont make it this season is some of the plastic cunts on here will fuck off and then maybe the old folks will come back..and along with the good new ones the place will be rocking as it used to.

Scott – Voted for the blog pal…keep up the good work

Denton – cheers for the mention on the other thread mate…lets hope this challenge can inspire the knight of the realm one more time.

Willie -I saw you apologizing on the other thread mate….no need to. Who would’ve thought United of all teams would bottle it like this. I bet Fred (the bookie who paid out) will be getting an earful from Fergie though! :D

Costas – exactly my thoughts mate…WTF has Lampard done to be on the list ahead of Carrick – he hasn’t even played half the games this season.
I wouldn’t want to get my hopes up too much but I think City will be too well prepared for Newcastle because they know whats coming… Personally I have more hopes from a battling QPR on the final day provided they still need a point to stay up

  233. Red Devil says:

By the way…I think the course of the season makes the sale of John O’Shea all the more puzzling….!
If there was no back up to Patrice Evra to be purchased why the fuck did we sell Johnny Boy who always did a solid job for us, could win a few headers with his height and score a few crucial goals against the big teams…
Absolutely baffling why we let that kind of title winning experience go…

  234. Ash says:

I think its high time where we make Rafael as our No. 1 Rb. Whatever people may say about him but for me he has very much improved. Jones is not a RB. He came as a Central defender then was given the job of Defensive midfeilder and now he plays in rb. I think this has hampered his progress. No more Juggling with the squad please. Everyone should have a fixed position.

I really hope Fabio becomes our no 1 lb from 2013 season. I hope his stint with benfica make hima better player. If he stays Injury free and Pplays more than 35 games then He will come as a improved player.

  235. Ash says:

Breakthrough player for us this season – Danny welbeck and De gea

Both of them has performed tremendously well. Welbeck could be a great striker in 2 years time. If he just improves his finishing then he will easily score 20+ goals every season.

De gea has also done a great job. The good thing about him is he has improved with each game. Next season he will be more comfortable.
If we win the league then confidence for both of them would rise to great level. Kudos to these two they have done a great job

I will also like to mention Johny evans. This lad has been criticized very much but he in the absence of vidic he has also done a great job. Keep it up Johny

Disappointment of the season for us- Anderson.

Really had high hope from him. He along with Clev started the season in a great fasion but After Tom’s injury Ando again became the same old player.
Injuries are also not helping him. I will give one m ore season to him. But I won’t be surprised if he is sold for 10 millions.

  236. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

Either way on Sunday we win, as United are glory hunters we will just start supporting city….

    My new name:

    Balotelli1Jones0

  237. Kamshyaa says:

Ash- Rafael has improved a lot and I also would like him to be our number 1 rb. I was quite surprised that he didn’t start against City. I also think its high time that Evra should be gradually Phased out. He has been a great ambassador for our club but his performance has been pretty ordinary in last few seasons. Like you mentioned Fabio could be the one to make lb position his own when he return from loan.

  238. Sandeep1878 says:

    Giggsy 12,

    Morning pal,

Ha ha good joke about Balotelli 1 Jones 0…

    Red Devil,

Yup the usual good posts have started to come and the match day WUMS and cunts have fled..

    Ash,

    you are right,

it really puzzles me on why we decided JOD to let go..

coming season, we cant depend on IFs and Buts, rivals are getting stronger..

every IF and BUT will be turned in to weak links in the team,

    For me,

A ball holding midfielder and a left back are top of my list, that is if Fabio goes out on loan..

I think Fabio would have played more games, the only reason i see that dint happen is because of season long injury to our Serbian skipper,

meaning Evra the new skipper, automatically starting all games irrespective of form, fatigue and game plan.,.

Vidic injury had its impact in a multiple way..

and Certainly the breakthrough has to be De Gea and Danny..they have been class this season..

I have a feeling that we will play with a different formation from next season..

We will need a free floating player..May be Nani or Young can be used..and this Eden Hazard kid linked with us is a real quality player IMHO..

letsee how it all goes out the transfer window…

    Good day mate

Byron 23:44- that’s the spirit . Its one of thecreasons football is so addictive , the unpredictability. Blue celebrations at the weekend red despair . Now , a possible route back for us and a glimmer of doubt for city. If the rolls were reversed , probably the same. Fergie will be working on that momentum now. If ands it’s a slim if we win it . It would be the sweetest for me.

Come on city , sit back relax your already champs :-)

  241. Sandeep1878 says:

Rafael has improved, you can see the maturity,

He is pulling out of few challenges, which he would have definitely done 12 months ago..

He has to play more games..that will boost his confidence and performance..

we already saw what a few run of games can do to him, he was brilliant in Feb mid onwards..

his partnership with Valencia was awesome..

He looks a real quality, need few touch ups but he will be ready!!!

We need to change our formation. I think it 4-2-3-1 would be best.

    Rafael Evans/Jones Vidic/Smalling Evra

Cleverley Carrick/Ando or Any other player we buy in this position

    Valencia Rooney/Hazard Nani/Young

    Hernandez/Danny/Rooney

This could be a great line up. And we don’t need to buy that many players. Just One or two quality players will do a good job for us.

  246. Redbilly says:

And for all the hopes re city opposition. May our lads focus on not chock in the next two games

  247. Utd4life says:

Not pinning my hopes on the Magpies just yet. They got a good result against the Renties (how on God’s green earth are they in the CL final???) but City will be a different proposition. Anyways, screw this blue twats. We need to get our job done and win the remaining 2 games by banging in a truckload of goals just to make those cunts sweat for the trophy. Sounds unlikely but stranger things have happened.

  248. Utd4life says:

I dunno who we are going to buy but we need to buy a LB and get Paddy Evra some competition on his flank. The guy is no longer the best LB in the world. He needs to be challenged in order to raise his game.

    P.S. Cisse’s 2nd goal was scrumptious.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11866/7725327/Rossi-axed-for-Ljajic-attack

Delio Rossi has been sacked as Fiorentina coach after physically attacking midfielder Adem Ljajic during Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw with Novara.

Ljajic sarcastically clapped his coach’s decision to substitute him, and Rossi responded by throwing punches as others on the bench attempted to restrain him.

 We was going to buy this kid

  251. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

We will win our remaining 2 games and so will City.

No point even having a shadow of support for Newcastle or QPR…..iissa over :( Unless a unprecedented 3rd bottle job happens and we luckily win the league.

  252. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

Cisse’s goal were ridiculous, the first one is over shadowed but fuck me that was a top strike as well.

Lets not get excited though, we lost the title against Everton, im not pinning my hopes on another team to win it for us!

  253. Gorse Hill Red says:

Could Newcastle do us a favour on Sunday? They will be up for that game; maybe another twist? You never know you never know.

  254. Sandeep1878 says:

Rather i would see we scoring 5 to 7 goals against Swansea and NCU can draw or lose by small margin, then City will be under pressure against QPR, who are battling to stay up..

If we go into final game with -2 GD, still anything can happen…

But as i have told earlier,

we are done and dusted, we bottled it big time..

    move on – 2013!!

    Good Morning Manchester United

  257. Vilhelm28 says:

What surprises me the most is the drop in form in the latter stages of the run in. Usually we keep it up, to the bitter end. I suspect that we overused Scholes and Carrick, without any evidence, they have seemed tired lately.

But, then again, even on points, way ahead of the pack, in the first of several rebuilding years, is pretty impressive. Yes, its disapointing, when its so close, but we are rebuilding. SAF went all out, the last couple of years trying to squeeze out another CL win, but fell just short. In doing this SAF kept the team together and went for experience. But such a run has to end and it has. We still have a great deal of “older” players left, because one cannot let all go at once, but gradually – in order for your new signings and younger players to learn from the wise and old ones.

Anyway, here we are, in rebuilding mode and we will stay here for at least 2 more years. We will gradually get better, stay longer in CL next year, maybe win the CC or FA and stay in the chase for the title like we are this year – but wont climb the summit (most likely). Players like Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Park, Berbatov. Rio and Vidic (all 30+) will have to be replaced, from within and through purchase. Thats 7 players – 3 very old and 4 old.

So we will face growing pains, unless people want United to become another rentboy team (we don’t). SAF will bring up boys from our youth and he will buy (probably) fairly young players and these players will need time, both to develop, make mistakes and learn.

What we can hope is that the boys that we bring in are solid characters, good guys that make us proud and hopefully another Ronaldo, Solskjær, Cantona, Keane in the making.

Get behind the team and the manager – they deserve it – get used to reality, it will get better and better – just wait and see!

  258. Jeet says:

    Hope dies hard, eh? ;)

Honest question – if we win the league because city bottle it (again), how would you feel?
    a. Delighted – no holds barred. Dont care how it happens – silverware is silverware.
    b. Delighted – but it will feel like we were gifted the title. Not something that we deserved 100%.
    c. Delighted – but concerned that this will provide another opportunity for sweeping glaring deficiencies under the carpet

    I’d probably go with (b)

  259. Sandeep1878 says:

    Scotty mate,

    Voted for the best blog,

and we are leading by 57% :)

  260. samuel - united WE stand says:

We talk about what Qpr and newcastle can do. We forget that slik swansea are turning up at old-trafford and they without doubt can cause and inflict major problems if we play below-par. 3 points won’t be gifted, swansea will put up a fight and united better match and surpass that. The welsh team have quality all round.

It’s a shame that united are resulting to desperation. I personally won’t place my hopes on newcastle, they could potentially choke in the match as wel but if they perform like they have done at home consistently then who knows, i certainly hope there’s a final twist in United’s favour but united do have tricky games themselves and need to step up massively for both.

  261. Sandeep1878 says:

    Mg,

    Hello mate,

    iisa cedar wedding over? ;)

    thought you all attending it..

    Jeet,

    Hello mate,

    b. Delighted – but it will feel like we were gifted the title. Not something that we deserved 100%.

    NO WAY..NO FUCKING WAY

I wont say we dint deserve it just because we bottled it..

    Lets accept,

    with so many injuries,

with so many points to catch up,

we did catch up (Meaning they bottled it once)..

then in the last 4 games we bottled it (1 all)..

if and if, City fuck up at Newcastle, its nothing but bottling (city bottling twice)..

In no way i feel we dint deserve it,

its neck to neck, on same points, plus 8 GD, whoever wins, wins the title, and with 2 games to go, whoever wins better WILL DESERVE THE TITLE..

so you see my friend, if at all we win, i dont consider us lucky, its a hard fought championship UNDER THE CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES…

Except city, we have been the best club against the top 6 sides..

so you see we arent that bad either,

86 goals scored to their 88..

33 goals conceded against their 27..

maximum number of away goals scored..

maximum number of away points earned..

    Least number of away defeats..

    Least number of away draws..

    ###

SO YOU SEE, IF AT ALL IF IT HAPPENS, WE DESERVE IT MY GOOD FRIEND..

    Good day pal..

  263. samuel - united WE stand says:

Im a fan of evra but it’s fair to say that the lack of real competition invites complacency and makes players stagnant with their improvement. Exactly what’s happening with evra. knows more often than not, he’ll waltz back into the first team as no one in the squad is capable of challenging him, not even the aforementioned fabio who excels in some aspects but needs major work on others in order to compete, something he’ll hopefully get on loan. Evra was once outstanding for at least two or three years but he has dipped and something is missing, i think he’s in his comfort zone just like most players at the club and can’t rule out the fact he’s accumulated several games without rest, always gets himself into some form controversy (not his fault, he’s a man that stands up for himself) so all the personal stress must play a slight part but it still doesn’t excuse his form deteriorating like this.

Thirdly, the players need to defend as a team, get organised more and be harder to break down. The defensive duty should fall on players.

  273. Albert Ross says:

    Good morning Reds!

Jeet, there is only one correct answer to your question at 8:42

If we win the league I will be delighted.

I do not believe for 1 second that any glaring deficiencies will be swept under any carpets, no matter where we come.

To my mind that is a silly view often expressed when we win. What that view always says to me is that the fan is more interested in other clubs players than his own. He wants to change the squad. The winning squad is not acceptable to him. This fan is never satisfied. He doesn’t trust United at all on any level. He is far more interested in his own expression than he is in United’s success. He wants recognition from his peers for his erudite analysis. His power stems not from understanding or close attention, but from flippant research on targets selected solely because he’s heard of them. That is how I see the fan who believes that United sweep glaring deficiencies under the carpet.

If we win the league I will be delighted!

    May 2, 2012 at 13:00 StatesideAussie says:

Mansour’s personal wealth is estimated at 20 billion, and is going up all the time. For him, spending 1 billion on Shitty is equivalent to man who has 2 grand in the bank (and no debt, and a steady stream of income), spending $100 on a night at the casino. If he wins, he’ll have had some fun, he’ll have something to brag about to his mates and he will generally feel better about himself. And if he loses, so what? He can well afford it and, what the hell, it was an interesting diversion anyway. Financially, it is irrelevant to him. With a flick of his pen, he could, if he wished, spend another $100, or even another $200 or $300, without any losing any sleep. After that, he might think about it a little more. It is, after all, just a diversion. Though of course, if it became more than a diversion — if, for example, he really wanted to prove a point — he could certainly spend even more.

So whatever some of us might think about the Glazers, their debt, or Sir Alex and his reluctance to go into the transfer market, I will say this: it makes absolutely no sense to get into a financial pissing contest with an opponent like this. None at all. Because every time you want to spend $40 or $50 or $100 million on a player, he can outbid you. For fun. For kicks. Just for the fuck-offness of it. He has more money, and he will always have more money. Money is his game, and he likes to win.

Honestly, I am dismayed at the way we have blown what should have been a safe lead ovet the last few weeks. The points dropped against Wigan and Everton — and the way we played in those matches — really hurt. If it wasn’t for those games — and earlier games in the season — this week’s result would still have been disappointing, but it wouldn’t have been quite so painful.

And honestly, coming second in the PL doesn’t cut me up. SAF has, on average, delivered us a PL title once every two years. That record is considered outrageously fucking successful by anyone with a half a brain, and so it should be. No, it’s not coming second that cuts so deep; it’s the fact that it’s Shitty who will beat us to it.

And 99% of the reason they are able to do that, has nothing to do with Sir Alex, or the Glazers, or team selections, or tactics, or anything else at Old Trafford. It is down to a man who has the means and the desire to spend a billion, or two billion, or 3 or 4 billion if necessary, to buy a team and an infrastructure that is capable of winning the PL.

So I go back to what I said earlier: there is no way to compete against that using financial means. Any attempt to do so would be an exercise in utter futility. It would also, no doubt, lead to our financial ruin.

Which means the only way it can be done is by using players that fall under the radar of someone like that. That means we have to make the most of the players we’ve already got, and it means that the players we buy will have to be those that he’s not interested in. If we go for a headline player, he can gazump us any time. With a phone call. If we bid 50 million, he can bid 60. If we match 60, he can go to 80. Or 100. Or whatever.

That is how it has been since Sheikh Manure bought Shitty. And, unless the FFP rules kick in and actually have some teeth, or Manure gets bored, that is how it will continue to be

Hi Ena – Easy tiger. Why so catty? Lion is like drawing the shorthair and cheetahs are always spotted. Have you no pride? The cat’s out the bag now, you are not the cat’s pajamas at all. Hurting people’s felines is moggy. I’ll slap you with a catsuit and you will take the long catwalk of shame, with catcalling pussies littering your cats-eye of the tiger as it cat-scans cattily.

Fighting like cats and dogs high on cat with something the cat dragged in while the cats away could end up with you sleeping with the catfishes.

Catcall it a day, my manx mate.

  345. CedarsDevil says:

Wonder what Jimmy James makes of all this?

  346. WillieRedNut says:

Someone stole my neighbours bin? Told him to take mine as it’s rubbish!

  347. Costas says:

I actually thought about Jeet’s question recently. How would I feel if we still managed to win the league. I don’t think much would change, really. Winning the league is an incredible feat, no matter how you do it. Of course some will point towads the 2 defeats against City. However, we also beat them twice this season. And if you take away the derby matches, United had the better record against the rest of the teams. ;)

I am sure the media will question whether we were the better side, but there would be no doubt about it in my mind. Liverpool beat us 6-2 on aggregate when we won the 08-09 title. No doubting who was the best that season though.

But before we get carried away, we still have 2 games to win. Evans won’t make the Swansea game and that’s a blow. Likewise for Welbeck. Hopefully we will have both of them back for Sunderland…

  348. WillieRedNut says:

There’s too much mime on mime violence in the world.

  349. Albert Ross says:

That’s a throwaway line WillieRedNut, unless you were talking trash.

  350. Albert Ross says:

Thanks Costas, that is a good perspective. We do deserve the title we hope to now win.

I guess that most supporters in England agree with that.

  351. Corea says:

    @Costas –

    06-07 lost twice to Arsenal
    07-08 lost twice to City
    08-09 lost twice to Liverpool

    So yes. Shit happens.
It would still be a feat, it would be 20. No matter what people said after Everton and City it would still be mission accomplished BUT SADLY with unattractive way of playing the game. The main concern for me.

  352. Albert Ross says:

Most mime-on-mime violence is a copycat crime.

  353. WillieRedNut says:

Sir Alex has always been a supporter of the mimer’s….

  354. Jeet says:

I wouldn’t for a second say that we dont deserve the double because whoever/whatever did the double on us. Just the fact that we bottled an 8 pt. lead – unthinkable and against the grain of everything the club and The Great Man stands for…anyway, no doubt one could also argue that if those matches had been played in a different sequence, it wouldn’t appear the way it is now, and I’d probably be praising the club for battling it out against injuries and petrobillions. All ifs and buts, what remains is to win the 2 games, hopefully by healthy margins, believe in United, and pray for the barcodes:)

Hmmm, I wonder if the lads have started getting dolled up for their mime at their lime bar.

  369. Albert Ross says:

I hope the lads aren’t getting back-pressured, they might find themselves in a hole.
Up shit creek without a paddle, yet an oar stuck firmly in.

  370. redbilly says:

Albert Ross- Thanks for the prompt re statsides 13:00 post . Hit the nail on the head for me. For the sheik, city is mere window dressing, a talking point over dinner .

  371. denton davey says:

Red Devil @ 06:42: “the course of the season makes the sale of John O’Shea all the more puzzling….!”

Right. I guess that the “plan” was that J O’Shea’s minutes would be covered by MrJones.

John’s versatility has been missed on the left, on the right, in the centre, AND in midfield !

Selling him – rather like the earlier deal with Phil Neville – was part-Glazernomics and part-sentimentality on SAF’s part, giving his loyal soldiers a chance for full-time footie AND a big pay-day. WRONG !

  372. WillieRedNut says:

United have distanced themselves from Eden Hazard. Fergie said, it’s not the right mime to talk about players. In further news, Roberto Mancini has impressed an interest in the Lille players. Mancini has refuted suggestions they’re trying to hijack United’s potential deal for Hazard by saying, “issa been interested in Eden Hazard since he was an embryo in his mothers womb”

Sir Alex Ferguson hit back by saying, “I’ll tie that fucking scarf around your neck, and give ya a Scottish kiss you wee bastard”

  373. gaz says:

hello ROM, its been a horrible fucking week fucking horrible. but i am red till i die and until those fucking classless fucking cocks over at the towel arena win the league i will keep believing, my hate for that twat Gallagher fucking mop head drone fag infested fucking voice cunt whom is spermicide his mother should have swallowed has reached new heights, i wouldnt fucking wipe my fucking Bog Bowl with his head if it was covered in Shit and piss Cunt. with his shit music and his pretend to be a fucking hardman image he wouldnt bate a bag of fucking walkers crisps fucking skinny anorexic drug taking floppy headed prick, CUNT walks around like he has a Butt Plug shoved up his ass.

Fat Le Tissear you sir a big nosed mouldy teethed basterd cunt didnt pick ONE united player in his team of the seaosn!! what a fucking clueless Bird Beak face, he had Sergio spikey disproportionate headed blockhead in front of Rooney Gareth Gappy ahead of fucking everyone! what a prick.

  374. Albert Ross says:

WillieRedNut – I am lolling around on the floor! Brilliant

redbilly – a pleasure for that prompt. It is brilliant Stateside comment that needed to be read.

  375. denton davey says:

Vilhelm 28 @ 08:41: ” Players like Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Park, Berbatov. Rio and Vidic (all 30+) will have to be replaced, from within and through purchase. Thats 7 players – 3 very old and 4 old.”

Let’s not look too far beyond Sunday ! It “could” be a pivotal day.

About your list – the only guy that I can see who is likely to be playing full-time in 2014 is Michael Carrick; his style is built on game-intelligence rather than physicality. Dimmy is on the way out, Park might join him; Rio, Giggs, Scholes, and even Captain Evra (who is not on your list) and Captain Vidic might not be able to play at the top-level for much longer.

Added to your list you should mention the departures of Ronaldo, Tevez (!), Hargreaves (!), Edwin, RedNev, DarrenFletcherinho (?),, Wesley Brown, and John O’Shea, that’s a lot of talent to replace in the next cycle of renewal/transition.

I’ve written that SAF is a man who won’t stay on past his best-by date – and that he will be the guy who makes that decision. On the one hand, I’ve written that if – somehow – TheLads can win #20 then he might just slip away rather than subjecting himself and the players to relentless speculation and upset; but, on the other hand, he’s a man who doesn’t back away from a challenge AND replacing all that talent is a huge challenge.

The next fortnight could be very, very interesting. Enjoy the ride.

  376. redbilly says:

Gaz- regardless of being a city supporter, Gallagher is a leary obnoxious prick. Hard man . Yeah I bet.
    Hatefull cunt.

  377. King Eric says:

  378. King Eric says:

gaz – Fucking hell pal, you amuse me. Fat Le Tissier. Mouldy teeth. Where do you get these things from mate? “Sergio spikey disproportionate headed blockhead”

  379. gaz says:

    @redbilly

hes on my list of Cunts unfortunetly for the world there is no cure for being a cunt!

  380. redbilly says:

King Eric – Hello mate. Accurate reflection of the situation in my opinion. As for financial fair play, anyone who thinks he will not have a way around it is fooling themselves. They are bred to expect to get what they want regardless of cost. Bet their are envelopes flying around like no ones business.

  381. gaz says:

    @king eric

just shoots out of my mouth i just say what i see and think just natural i guess!!

i fucking hate those fucking scrawny piss ants the gallaghers and as redbilly says they are nasty characters outside of being shitty fans anyway, as for Fat Matt i lost it when i saw his fucking team on sky fucking scandolous selection- btw check out his teeth they are fucking filthy mate!!!

  382. Albert Ross says:

I think that the Financial Fair Play regulations are not aimed at stopping owner’s from pumping money into football. That is money that football will never see if they are stopped. Money that will then not filter through to the big-wigs at Fifa and Uefa.

No, the regulations are solely designed to prevent money going out of football.
When clubs are mis-managed by greedy owners, they fail. At the least, they become worth far less on the open market. This equates exactly to money going out of football. Money that the same bigwigs are focussed on. Money that the Financial Fair Play regulations are designed to protect.

It’s the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules.

Where is the advantage to preventing city’s owners from pumping in hundreds of millions?
Other owners will just have to match the upped ante. More money coming in.

Preventing the money leaving because of badly-run clubs is their concern.
    Not the money coming in.

  383. Albert Ross says:

“Gee whizz. Your shirt sponsorship is far too much. Are you planning to spend that on all the things that we get a cut of? Desist foul cretin! Your cash will curry no favour here! We don’t want your money, it is immoral.”

  384. redbilly says:

Albert Ross- thanks for the pointer re money going out of the clubs . Its the change in dynamics over a very short period thats hard to accept due to nothing more than a huge investment. Personally, If city had developed of their own accord fair enough. How much their influence will benefit or hinder the league only time will tell.

Maybe thats the way forward. allow your club to wallow in mediocraty for several generations and wait for a bored oligarch to invest mega bucs. Maybe on day we too can don fancy dress to a derby as a cossackor sheik.

    :-)

  385. Albert Ross says:

Start spreading the news, we support them today
We want them to be a part of it – Newcastle, Newcastle.
Those vagabond blues, are longing to bray
Right through the very heart of us – Newcastle, Newcastle.

We want to wake up in a city, that doesn’t weep
And find we’re king of the hill – top of the heap

Those bitter light blues, are wanting to say
They’ve made a brand new start of it – come on Newcastle!
If you can stop them there, We’ll beat them by a hair
It’s up to you – Newcastle, Newcastle!

    Newcastle, Newcastle
We want to wake knowing that city will always weep
To find that we’re number one, top of the list,
Cream of the crop at the top of the heap.

It’s up to you – Newcastle, Newcastle!

  386. Albert Ross says:

redbilly – I sincerely hope not!

Dressed in a sheet? I’ve not the legs for it!

  387. Albert Ross says:

redbilly – do you agree with my view on the FFP regulations?

They are couched in rhetoric to appear as a playing-field leveler, but that is not their aim.

  388. redbilly says:

    Albert Ross- on reflection yes.

  389. Shebangsthedrums says:

Albert Ross – I hear what your saying. But most clubs just don’t have the resources to keep up with the clubs with rich owners. That’s why they borrow beyond their means to keep up and when the glory doesn’t come or doesn’t pay, they’re left with big debts. Even if city won the champs league for the next 5 years, ( won’t happen) it wouldn’t cover the current running costs of the club. They’ve set their wages very high and they’ll only keep rising unless thay go for youth or a lesser class of player. The FFP, is there to protect city and chelsea too. If their owners walked out, where would they be? Has we’ve seen, club ownership is very random, football and especially the EPL is in vogue right now, but it won’t be for ever and rich businessmen will move their money elsewhere. I do think owners will find ways around FFP, but they will also have to cut spending and at least show some intent to play within the rules.

  390. Albert Ross says:

redbilly – that is the splitting-image of my view, mirroring it perfectly.

  391. AsianGuy says:

Just watched highlights from home game against chelsea in 08/09 season.. really miss the way we used to attack and defend with pace and tenacity.. hopefully with some fresh blood we could get the red machine rolling again!

  392. WillieRedNut says:

Albert Ross – I couldn’t hear what you were saying, could you mime it for me?

  393. denton davey says:

I’ve not read ALL the comments – just most of them. What has astonished me has been the absence of a call for “WeWantDimmy”. It seems to me that DannyTheLad’s injury (and non-availability) and Chicharito’s rather low-key performances this season would give SAF the chance to bring back Dimmy from the wilderness to which he has consigned him.

AND wouldn’t it be astonishing to see Dimmy do it ? A real “fuck you” to BerbaHaters and BerbaSceptics, too.

  394. FletchTHEMAN says:

FFP are an effort to prevent bankruptcy in football. Rangers, Leeds, Portsmouth being proven cases in point. The FFP rules are couched in language that sounds like it will stop major investments, but that is not true. If you want to just hand over 50B to a club as a gift, I assure you no one will stop you. But billionaires are not charitable people in the main. As was laid bare by the Portsmouth debacle, every penny given was given as a loan. A loan that wants repaying. FFP is about NOT saddling clubs with debt that is unmanageable. As with a bank loan to a person, “unmanageable” must be viewed differently depending on business models and success. Clearly, Uniteds debt seems manageable at current levels of return. But FFP will be one tool to stop the increasing pressure on the Rangers, Leeds and Portsmouths of this world, and stop same from happening to the WestHams, Blackburns and etc.

  395. redbilly says:

shebangsthedrum- the bottom line is, with the kind of resources the mega rich have at their disposal, hiring the very best legal advice for one. There is always a way around rthe rules. It a part of the game we have to contend with.

  396. Costas says:

    @denton

It crossed my mind about suggsting it, but what’s the point of starting him against Swansea? It’s not just the fact that he’s leaving (same probably goes for Scholes if you think about it). Berbatov has been out of the loop for far too long. Look how it backfired with Park on Monday…

  397. Albert Ross says:

Shebangsthedrums – everything you say, I agree with.

    - clubs like chelsea or city might be left in the lurch
    - other clubs overextend in an attempt to match the big-spenders.
    - these scenarios ruin or cripple clubs, who devalue dramatically.

So the FFP are introduced, to ensure that debts are not thrust on the club by over-ambitious owners who buy players on high value contracts with wages that remain the Club’s responsibility. Other clubs will not be able to overextend by matching the big spenders. Rich owners will win the siverware, encouraging other rich people to become owners and to pump money into one of the clubs that would have over-extended if not for FPP.

If you can’t match the stakes, you lose the pot.
Who gets the pot is not important to the big-wigs, as long as the money flows in.
    And no money flows out.

  398. Albert Ross says:

WillieRedNut – herewith a precis in mime:

  399. Albert Ross says:

… was that good for you?

  400. FletchTHEMAN says:

Shebangsthedrums, City does have a business model. But make no mistake, part of that is to take market share from United. If they win the league, you will hear much less talk from the Pele’s of this world asking the question: “I didn’t know there were two teams in Manchester?”

City are changing the dynamic. 10 more years of this type of investment and you might see many more sky blue shirts. Just saying. FFP is not an effort to stop home grown teams from falling out of the top flight. When you go to the grand national, you don’t see many owners that couldn’t afford a Bentley. Just sayin.

If United loose to the Blues, the failure of the Glazers to invest will be very starkly real. They will take years, if ever to regain what they lost in these few weeks.

Not saying anything negative about the club, and am still of the opinion that we have done well to be in second. But I am not so naive as to fail to grasp what it at stake with City. And FFP will not save us from that.

    RIP Triggs Roy Keane’s mate.

Here is the story under item 3

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/03/the-fiver-jose-mourinho-madrid

  408. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

@Fletch I understand your viewpoint but I don’t think 10 years is enough for City to take a substantial chunk of United’s Market. Due to the sheer power behind the Brand, it would have to be 20 years of Totally City domination and total United collapse for that to happen. City would also have to find a way to appeal to the hundreds of millions of fans outside the country who only know Manchester United as a football team. I don’t see that happening EVER. FFP is excellent because it means that clubs will now have to spend what they earn and we all know that there is NO CLUB in England that can smell United if we decide to spend what we earn. I am not worried about city. when you invest billions of dollars in a club success is expected so I am not surprised by how good city have been but as for them Dominating United off the field as well? NOPE. not gonna happen in my lifetime.

  409. Costas says:

    @Fletch

RIP indeed. I know how it must feel for Keane right now. Triggs was probably the only living creature that never felt his wrath..

  410. Shebangsthedrums says:

I know what you’re all saying and I’m not naive enought to think this will spend the end of city and they’ll go back to mid table mediocrity. But why would UEFA even introduce the idea of FFP if they don’t intend to see it through? Would do they expect to gain from that? They would lose what little credibility they have. City will no doubt benefit for many years to come from the investment they’re getting now and success will lead to increased revenues. But there’s no way they could sustain this type of investment for 10 years, they will never make enough money to cover that. Chelsea are 9 years into Ambramavich’s era and I don’t see world domination for them. Wasn’t it his aim to make Chelsea financially viable on their own steam by 2010? Who’s to say rich businessmen will continue to chose football to invest their money in? Football’s in vogue at the minute, but It is a trend and trends don’t last. As for Utds downfall, that old happen anyway after Alex goes. Look what happened to Liverpool and they didn’t have rich oil baron owners to moppets with.

When we speak of global appeal or presence people need to realize something, United are not top of the pile solely because of their success on the pitch over the past 20 years or so……

United were or have been in this position since the 60′s, albeit without the marketing and shirt sales that goes with it these days. To most global fans United is just that i.e. the name, the name Manchester United which has had its followers around the globe for over 6 decades…

What will always give United the edge is the romance associated with the club, some may think this is naive but its not.

  414. Sandeep1878 says:

Demba Ba accepts a deal with Manchester United fan

Newcastle United player Demba Ba, has accepted a deal with a Manchester United fan on Twitter promising to score the winning goal against City,

Jordan McDonald (@BigMacca93) asked him “You score the winner against City and I’ll get you on the back of my Manchester United top #dealornodeal #BA19″

Demba Ba simply replied with deal

Although this was all tongue in the cheek, we are now heavily reliant on Newcastle doing us a favour after blowing a 8 point lead at the top of the table. Cisse has been in red hot form for Newcastle at the minute, stealing the limelight from Demba ba, but could he be the man to save United titles challenge?

  415. WillieRedNut says:

He’s made that bet with the wrong striker! Cisseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Cedars – agree mate. Look at city now, I don’t see the natives flocking to the emptyhad, hence the name, unless they play Man Utd of course.

  418. FletchTHEMAN says:

Shebangs… Spot on with your comments ofcourse. Fully concur with the sentiment. Just feel that you are assuming FFP means protecting something traditional. The only thing FFP will try to do, is add some balance. There are estimates that 20 clubs in englands top 2 leagues could go under in 10 years. That is what FFP is trying to avoid. It might “look” like this is to protect the fans, but it is really to protect the reputations of the leagues. When Portsmouth and Rangers failed, the fingers are pointed at the FA and EPL and SPL for the farce of the Fit and Proper test. FFP is just trying to put a bit of spine behind Fit and Proper.
Alas… FFP won’t fix any of the problems that you are worried about.
You a Stone Roses fan then?

@Danny. 10 years was a metaphor. Agree to disagree, but a bit of a piss take to quibble about 10-20. The issue is Going from only one team in Manchester to two and the business model of both will be world domination.

Can we agree, Its polemic ?!

  424. KingOfStretfordEnd says:

Me thinking about Newcastle helping us is already very queasy. Totally reliant on someone else? Not nice at all. We’ve lost points not from bad refereeing decisions but all down to complacency, so I’m really resigned to fate. We deserve it tbh.

    Newcastle to win/draw city? Nah.

  425. Shebangsthedrums says:

Fletch – yeh love the stone roses, would love to have seen them this summer but too expensive. I suppose that’s what having a family does. My fave band though is the Doves, saw them at Glastonbury 2003, was the highlight for me. Not sure what their football persuasion is though.

cedars- agree with re global appeal not founded on winning alone. The history Busby babes George Best ect appealed globally. The club was known worldwide prior to the premier league as was Arsenal , Liverpool amongst others.

If we went a decade without a title win or a CL qualification let alone final, would the real fans UK based or not flee the club?. I very much doubt it . If anything , a period of adversity ( though I do not wish it upon us) often leads to an increase of support/ camaraderie.

  432. Sandeep1878 says:

    MG,

    no problem mate,

    good evening…

Tut Tut Shinji is a bad boy  Reportedly worth around £7-10m….BARGAIN.

I hope we sign in him to replace Park who’s influence has diminished since the CL final. SAF doesn’t even rate him anymore, that City defeat was probably a career saver, plus he did sign that 2 year extension only last year so we’ll get £5m easy for Parky….love the fella, great lad….but always has had his limits.

Meanwhile that lad Hazard has got 19 goals and 14 assists….decent for a youngster,,,but it is a french league, I hear Chamakh and Gervinho was stars over there :???:

Fuck Newcastle….I’m backing relegation sniffers QPR to grab a result ! :D

Several posters have posted concerns that if United manage to win the league there will be complaints that somehow didn’t “deserve” it.

    So the essential issue is
“If United win the league, how to hold our heads high as a United fan”

Here are 3 posible scenarios and the logical solution:

Scenario 1) Skyblues win all remaining games by modest margins
Solution: We win our remaining games as well but by mega margins and take the title by goal differential and all England bowing down to our goal scoring prowess as Rooney overtakes RVP and wins the Golden boot by a confortable margin.

Scenario 2) If either Newcastle with Obertan or QPR with Sparky take points, we could go on to win on points
Solution: We claim this is Fergie’s finest hour, a master stroke, and that Stealth United won us the league.

Scenario 3) Any combination of scenarios.
Solution: We simply fall back to the standard: We are Man United, we do as we want

    Sorted

  499. Vilhelm28 says:

Not sure if this thread is alive or not – Denton – agree. I have not said that we have lost the title, we are still alive and can win it.

What I am saying is that we are in rebuilding mode and to be in the race is a great job by SAF. Unlike other teams that end up mid-table, SAF keeps us in the running every year. It’s even more impressive given the players SAF has and needs to replace, all world class. I can’t see anyone doing it like he has.

As for City and other teams with endless money, I think SAF has adressed this, when he said ” we need to bring more boys up from our youth” because he cannot get into bidding – like with Nasri.

So, it will be a bumpy ride, we will see new names, some (or all) unknown – but our boys want to play for us and no one else. Thats a good start!
