Evans: I Will Need Surgery On My Ankle

Jonny Evans has today confessed that he is going to need to have surgery on his ankle, although hopefully when we’re not in the middle of a defensive injury crisis!

“At some point my ankle will need surgery,” said Evans. “It is a problem that has been bothering me since Christmas. We thought it might have gone away over the summer but it is still there. Every now and again I catch it and it will be quite sore for a while. Then the pain dies off after a week or so.”

  1. Jimmy Bob says:

Hope it can hold off untill rio gets back, if not we are really short at the back.

Should have had this done as soon last season ended

  2. Macheda is GOD says:

Fabio twins at the wings O’shea and vida at the middle
    We are ok.

  3. Corea says:

That’s not good news. Rio is so injury prone while Evans formed very good relationship with Vida.
If he needs this operation we have to make it.

  4. Costas says:

This explains the constant recurrences of the injury. He has to operate. I don’t know how much ankle surgery keeps you out for, but i remember Nicky Butt having one and missing 3 months. Hopefully Jonny’s is not hat serious. He should have done it in the summer.

  5. Trevor says:

Its been ovbious with recent performances that something wasnt 100% i recon he only is 80% fit!

  6. Macheda is GOD says:

Can we please buy a new player?
Lets be honest who is obertan?
    Valencias no ronaldo
    and owen is no tevez.
    Lets buy some one.

  7. Costas says:

I think you could also see it at Wigan last May.His footing was constantly betraying him and he was slipping. He will have a problem once winter comes and the pitches get heavier. Other than that, he has to operate because relying on painkillers is not good for him.

I am starting to think Fergie has something or someone up his sleeve.
Maybe he is going to buy someone “big” after all.
I think it would fill us all with a little optimism that does not seem to be there just now.
If he is going to get a marquee signing then he will have to spend £50million and that is never an easy thing to do (especially for a Scotsman).
We are all a little fragile at the moment but all is very different very quickly if we see some magic from Berba and Owen on Saturday.
If we see another performance like we did against Burnley then it will be a very dark time until we show we can play awesome football without a certain you know who.

  9. bchilds says:

I can’t believe surgery didn’t take place during the summer!

  10. wazza (Bezi) says:

there is no chance of signing any top star now except Ribery. Aguero, Silva and Villa are all cup tied.

  11. stretford972 says:

can’t believe after watchin 2 shit performances and an injury prone lookin back line, fergie doesn’t think we need anyone. Think wes will play centre half with vidic. More worried about wide midfield. Park isn’t good enough to create anythin, he looked solid doin ronaldo’s runnin for him but not much more. Hopefully tosic will come good.

  12. stretford972 says:

how can silva and villa be cup tied? They didn’t make the champs league. Barca, real, sevilla, athletico did

  13. wazza (Bezi) says:

is it that the Europa league players are not cup tied ?

  14. Costas says:

I think they are cup tied. The new Liverpool defender, Kyrgiakos, didn’t play in yesterday’s Europa League game with his Greek team so that he isn’t cup tied for the Champion’s League with Liverpool

Fergie was also saying he was done spending in the summer of 04. But after our slow start he pursued Rooney. The problem , is that there isn’t a Rooney out there anymore. Just good players who dream of playing for Real.

  15. wazza (Bezi) says:

@Costas : but Lass Diarra got selected for Real in CL after he had played for Pompey in UEFA cup. same was with Huntelaar but Real had to choose only one of them.

  16. Costas says:

I know wazza, but i think it’s different with the Europa League now. It’s supposed to be updated.

  17. Gudjohnsen says:

@Costas – Didn’t Fergie go after Rooney because Newcastle were sniffing around? If Fergie has his eyes set on someone right now but is waiting till next summer to buy him, we might see a surprise transfer move if other teams get too close to him.

But let’s hope Evans can go on till Rio comes back. We also have Brown but he’s really injury prone, he needs to stay fit also. If not then we can be in a lot of trouble…

  18. stretford972 says:

@wazza as far as i’m aware, they’re 2 different competitions mate. Personally, i’d sign em if they were cup tied, otherwise we’re in severe danger of winnin nothin. The league is always your bread and butter

  19. Jason says:

I think I have a similar problem with my ankle …. it’s fine when I’m not playing five-a-side but after a game my ankle will be quite sore and it takes a week or 2 for it to go away =(…. doctors claimed that my ankle is fine but I don’t feel fine at all !!

  20. Stretford Ender says:

Fergie needs to buy a CB

What Fergie says in public – especially when he emphasises it a couple of times has to be taken with a large pinch of salt.

“I wouldnt sell that mob a virus”

I think we will see something in the next 10 days or not at all this year -including the January window.

  22. ManUtdPeople says:

Haha I’ve been branded a liar by Nathan Dawe. Tosser.

  23. Costas says:

@Gudjohnsen: I think it was a combination of our bad start and Newcastle being interested. That forced Rooney transfer was what made Forlan leave ironically.

  24. I LOVE MU says:

    we have cathcart and brown

  25. javac says:

We will have no more signings. Stop believing the paper talk. We are done till January at the earliest. Keep the faith, we’ll come good. I remember us only having Alan Smith up front at the start of the 2006-7 season. We won that one too. We have had 11 injured players at times. No worries.

  26. Adrian says:

we need to have some more cover for the defense, despite having loads of good players, some are pretty injury prone and others are just aging/losing form. doesnt necessarily have to be a new signing but maybe some star from the reserves (De Laet anyone?)

If Evans need the surgery I think its best for him to get it asap so that it doesnt worsen and becomes something that recurs. I guess once Rio returns and our form settles Evans should get that treatment immediately, or in fact, he should have during this year’s off-season.
