Evans: Kids Put Pressure On Us

Jonny Evans is the latest to praise our young team, claiming that, even at just 23-years-old, there is pressure from the younger members of the squad on players like him.

“It is weird,” he said. “It is hard to believe Phil Jones is only 19. Chris Smalling is 21. David de Gea is 20. We have the Da Silva brothers. The average age against Tottenham was 23. I was just over on months. It has given the young players an incentive to step up to the mark. You cannot be a kid anymore and sit back and let things happen. You have to stamp your authority on the team.”

evans looks like he’s got leprosy

  5. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@shoebahmed, Ryan Giggs – Forever Young! The guy has had two late substitute appearances and already has two assists to his name.

As for Evans, all I have to say is “Look who’s talking!”. I mean he himself is just 23 and he is talking about Jones, Smalling and the twins as if they were miles behind him when it comes to experience. In fact, out of those, Jones and Smalling look like they’ve been playing for some 10 years at the highest level.

It really is great to not only see youth being given a chance but also lapping it up with both hands like has happened this season. That has been the bedrock of every great Manchester United team, and it is proving to be the case again.

  6. Doghouse says:

I think he is right about not coasting too. I think when there are guys like Scholes in the side you look to them, how could you not? But Sir Alex is forcing the young lads to be big and to really earn their squad numbers this season. It’s got to be difficult to step out of the shadow of giants at United, but it has to happen. I think this is a key difference between United and how this club has developed and how for example Arsenal has developed from the Invincibles team.

  7. karandravs says:

So no more hiding behind the cloak of being young..

Guys.. isn’t no one gonna pull a Alan Hansen on us now, “you cannot win anything with the kids” !!

  8. bayobuya says:

The performance of the the utd young side against Spurs has really rocked the boat.

    http://www.sportsnewsireland.com/soccer_irish/49343/

Its good to be a Patriot but Rio should hang up his England boots there is too much to lose for him. Including being slandered by the press in the same breath as fat frank, slow Terry, expired Steven & co.

  9. bayobuya says:

    @Karandrav

Who would dare!!!! Besides the performance of the young team anyone would think twice about publicly going against Sir Alex’s managerial decisions. They would end up ‘the fool”.

  10. smartalex says:

Evans said ” You cannot be a kid anymore and sit back and let things happen.”

Which is why Sir Alex moved Wes Brown and O’Shea (and Hargo), despite already losing Gary, Paul and Edwin. To free up the dressing room and the pitch, that a new order could form.

  11. bayobuya says:

More good news from the official website. I’ve been waiting for this lad since the ”Le harve”(spelling?) was settled! He is one of the reasons Im looking forward to Leeds.

  13. dazbomber says:

I know things can not be rushed, but the arrival of Paul Pogba at United is so exciting . I have never seen a player like him at that age. I have watched the youth teams for over twenty years and more ,he is on the level of Scholes Beckham and all the rest of the great players that have come through. I know it is some statement but i believe it to be true its just a matter of time sit back and light the touch paper.

  14. smartalex says:

Young players are all the rage at Old Trafford!

“He’s had an incredible start,” said Jesper Blomqvist. “I don’t know if he’s left-footed or right-footed. It’s interesting with the young players that they haven’t played that many games but there is a hunger to makes themselves, and United, even better. Ashley’s drive to improve is amazing. When they come to United with that drive, it’s a great combination.”

    Breaking News:

A kid put pressure on Wesley Sneijder and therefore in due course he got so traumatised that he would be so upstaged at OT he decided not to be transferred to Manchester United.

Ladies and Gentlemen this is the real reason why Sneijder didn’t come.

The kids name is Tom Cleverley aka TC and he’s going to be one hell of a player.

Their Cedars/Costas I’ve finally cracked the missing link regarding the Wesley transfer which was a no go .

  16. MG says:

And now for what I consider the laugh of the year.

Fuck off Hargreaves – your just a statistic at city – could have gone anywhere – just went for the petrol dollars

    ;)

  17. King Eric says:

“Evans looks like he has leprosy” Err no he doesnt. Where did that come from?

  18. MG says:

    40 games?

Thou shall be lucky with 40 minutes

Has Evans been sold yet it’s all his fault.

  19. MG says:

    @cleverlinho

That is a fucking disgusting and abhorrent use of language

I would politely ask you to retract your nonsense

    What utter bollocks.

  20. King Eric says:

Felt obliged to text “your on sky sports” last night and that fat cunt Cundy,. They were talking about the future of Ingerlund and according to them Rodwell, Henderson and Wilshire are the midfield future. Err what about Tom you ignorant cunt? Completely dismissed Jones out of hand as well the aggressive rent boy scum. He asked did Cunty where are all the academy players in England. A United fan called and said look at ours . Ignorant bastard said who like. Well Jason, Fletcher, Cleverley, wellbeck, Morrison, Tunnicliffe, Keane brothers, Thorp to name afew. Just wait till they see these lads on the scene. They wont know whats fucking hit them.

  21. MG says:

    King Eric

I bet Cundy is still thinking that chelsea are going to walk the PL

Let him dream the fuck on mate…

    ;)

  22. MG says:

    King Eric

I actually skipped through SS – when I saw Cundy just before he took a breath and was about to speak I just politely moved the forward key on the remote.

I actually admire you mate – I can’t stand none of them – I can’t even listen to them – fucking vile the whole lot of the bastards

  23. Doghouse says:

I want to write Chelsea off I really do. But they’ve been shit while winning games, which is pretty much ideal title form, plus they’ve spent a lot of money on some decent signings.

Sounds weird, but to play badly and win is probably better than playing well and winning, goal difference notwithstanding. You learn more from a bad performance than a good one and if you can have a shit day at the office, which every team will have, and still take the three points home at the end of it then that’s a good performance. The question is really are Chelsea actually bad, or are they warming up? Because if it’s the former then they are no threat, if it’s the latter than we take our eye of them at our peril.

  24. fergie is the boss says:

King Eric – rodwell is the future LOL, what the fuck has he done, and henderson don’t get me started on that idiot.

  25. Cyril Sneer says:

Who’s getting sacked first – King Kenny or Andre Feather-Boa?

  26. scan74 says:

Jonny will do 4 me has started the season well came in for way to much critiscm last year can be a major player 4 us down the years

  27. CedarsDevil says:

Rodwell and Henderson are indeed the future for England, to ensure continued mediocre performances and fuck all success

  28. Cyril Sneer says:

Please don’t leave out Dipper Downing. Best winger since Beckham apparently

  31. smartalex says:

“I was speaking to Michael Owen the other day and he just said ‘everyone says we have got two teams but you know what, with all the young players coming through we could put three teams out When I put it to him that if you fielded three teams in the Premier League the third team wouldn’t be anywhere relegation and he said ‘no way’. That puts things into perspective.”

  32. Red Devil says:

I really do hope his words come true and Rodwell and Henderson are the future for England—–Because I’d like all our United players to retire from England duty until those cunts at the FA show some fucking respect that Manchester United deserve.

United players have always been targeted with England — Beckham, the Nevilles, Ferdinand, Ronaldo and then Rooney… when will our layers learn and stop pissing their careers turning out for England..I know that its a big honour to play for your country and I am no less patriotic then any cunt out there…but if your countrymen keep treating you like a piece of shit everytime you go out and give your all, then they can go fuck themselves

  33. CedarsDevil says:

    Red Devil

Well said my friend, however I do not recall Ronaldo playing for England! lol

    United > England

  34. Red Devil says:

The thugs that are England supporters just needed a United player to vent their frustrations because no one in England can take a penalty when it matters – ronaldo was a convenient scapegoat…

They can never see that Chelsea and Liverpool and Man City players always underperform for England…fat fucking Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard will run miles for their clubs and never miss a kick, whereas for England their performances are generally shite barring a few exceptions
Jamie fucking Carragher barely puts a foot wrong for Liverpool, but he cant tackle for his life when he plays for England…its a joke their entire set up…

  35. CedarsDevil says:

    Red Devil

I said it before my friend, United players have always carried England from the days of Sir Bobby through to Bryan Robson, Beckham etc….. Its a fucking joke and Sir Alex said it clearly that the FA do not respect us………..

On a positive note, here’s a look into how level-headed and mature that young boy De Gea is..

  37. smartalex says:

In March, Jonny Evans unfortunately injured Stuart Holden, who was magnanimous in absolving our Jonny of blame. Holden is close to returning to the Bolton first team, and I have been hoping it will not be against us, as another injury would be so unfair to him.

Owen Coyle is adopting a similarly cautious approach “It is important we don’t throw him into a situation he is not quite ready for yet, but he is getting better and is not too far away, Saturday might just be too soon for him”

Good luck Stuart Holden! Don’t come back this weekend though!

  38. smartalex says:

CedarsDevil – I believe the term was: “They treat us like shit!”

The truth well spoken by our Gaffer!

  39. CedarsDevil says:

Indeed it was smartalex, I remember some here who were moaning and complaining about it and saying that the boss will be fined again……… As if he gives a flying fuck anyway

  40. Costas says:

    @Red Devil

De Gea seems like a level headed lad, but I’m afaid that he just encouraged the twats to rip him to shreds even more. Critisism is fine, but the tabloids went way overboard.

    Breaking News:

So Harry do you think England will ever win another major championship?

I beg your pardon Jeff – how rude of you to say such a thing!

I don’t understand Harry 66 was the last time we won anything of note

Not on Football Manager Jeff – in Football Manager 2011 The Harry Redknapp English Edition we’ve won the world cup three times!

Oh fucking hell Harry not again…

Their you go again Jeff you and that Rooney you both should be locked away and be wiped off on the stock exchange – just like that!!!

  42. This Is The One says:

    Jonaldo Evansinho

He’s 23? I though he was 21. Still got 10 years along with Smalling and Jones. Average age of 23 against top teams like Spurs and Arsenal, and to win so impressively, only says great things for the future.

  43. Gerriered says:

with comments like these I’ll laugh myself to the hospital.

So no more hiding behind the cloak of being young..

5:30pm can’t come quick enough. International football depresses me. Bolton away though, first real test in my opinion. Kevin Davies bound to get away with a few attempted leg beaks on Patty Evra.

  48. fergie is the boss says:

Red Devil – I think carragher is actually found it in some big premiership games, he looked woeful against united at OT last season.

  49. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

    Jonny Evans :D
I like his style, something about him makes me smile when he plays. He’s not got the beatuful crispy tecnhique like Rio, Smalling or Jones and he is not as rough & Tumble as Vida. He is the medium of both of our senior centre backs. His face hilariously looks worried on the ball but what he does with his feet show confidence and composure.

    — Hmm TC ousted the Wesley Schneider Threat, No one can take the place of our Top Cat !

  50. King Eric says:

Looking forward to the reserve game tonight.

  52. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/sep/08/david-de-gea-criticism-manchester-united
    De Gea said;
“The club, the supporters, the facilities, the atmosphere, it’s all out of this world. All my team-mates are very open, there’s a very good atmosphere, and that makes it much easier to integrate. I’m very happy because from the first day I’ve felt like just one more within the group. They help me with everything and that’s pleasing.” He added that he was impressed by witnessing Ferguson’s personality up close – but surprised by his friendliness.

David de Gea accepts press criticism of shaky Manchester United start.

“No, it seems normal to me,” he told AS. “When you do things wrong, even though it’s a [just] couple of mistakes, the press has every right to criticise you. Especially when you’re a goalkeeper, who is always under the spotlight. What happened is something normal and no big deal. Now it’s in my hands to change those early negative criticisms into praise.”

  53. smartalex says:

De Gea is not too concerned by the unwanted attention.
“It feels normal, when you do things wrong, even just a couple of mistakes, the press has the right to criticise even more so when you’re a goalkeeper as you are always in the spotlight,” he said. “What happened is normal; it is now up to me to change those negative reports into praise. I am looking to improve after every practice session, every match – but mostly I keep intact my confidence in my own ability and what that can bring to the team.”
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/8750159/Manchester-United-goalkeeper-David-de-Gea-accepts-he-made-mistakes-following-transfer-from-Atletico-Madrid.html

  54. smartalex says:

    Same quotes, different Media! Sorry!

  55. smartalex says:

De Gea added that Sir Alex Ferguson, his new manger, was friendlier than expected. “I was surprised how kind he was,” he said. “Just like the rest of the players.”

  56. Dragonslayer says:

At this point, I am more convinced that our first two teams are able to challenge our rivals, the third team might not be ready yet. They will need some time to develop better. I hope De Gea will be able to put aside the criticism and develop well into a great keeper. Being humble and mature shows he has good character.

  57. Zibbie says:

    “Costas Kebabulous”!!!!!!!! That is awesome.
    @smartalex! Go Holden, well said.
well just had time to read say hello RoM and good day!
As for Jonny I said it yesterday! He is a true Red from the start and has played great this year.

  58. dannysoya says:

I am very happy with how our squad is looking now. We have a crapload of players to choose from and i agree with mark lawrenson. United has at least two teams that can really challenge. Plus Fergie said that Pogba is nearly ready to get first games. YAY UNITED. great times ahead.

  59. FletchTHEMAN says:

Smartalex. Well said about Stuart Holden. US national coach just went to two of Stuarts reserve games to put the rule over him. Hope he comes back. Desperately unlucky at injuries that boy. Plays with his heart as well. US coach Jurgen Klinsmann hailed Stuart Holden as “exactly the type of player the national team wants”. From a recent article.

Not our player, but good luck to him.

  60. FletchTHEMAN says:

Speaking of lads who have responded well to negative critisism to win some respect. Love everything I am seeing from our youngster De Gea. What a player he is going to be. Think about the prospect of DeGea, Twins, Jones, Smalling, Evans, after they have played 4-6 years together. Current average age 21? Add six years and average age 27.

Gives one goose bumps, that does.

  61. parryheid says:

With Pogba now included in the first team pool if he is 75% the player Paul Scholes was then I will concede our midfield no longer has problems.Just leaves for me the one problem position to rectify.

  62. Cyril Sneer says:

One thing that never seems to come up is how Fergie chooses the young lads on their personality as well as their skill. They’re always good lads, down to earth and with a willingness to learn and help out their team-mates. We don’t want the prima donnas.

I suppose that’s one of the things that separates United from some of our ‘rivals’. All too often we see clubs buying guys who have great skills but are utter cunts as people. The Rentboys and Bitters’ squads are full of them.

    Well done Fergie!

  63. StatesideAussie says:

King Eric … I seriously believe the problem with Ingerlund is they (the coaches) don’t put enough emphasis on picking players with the right mental qualities — players who will never ever give in and whose burning desire is not just to win but utterly humiliate the opposition. In other words, the “United mentality” that SAF prizes so highly. Half those players that the London press like to wank over, wouldn’t get through the door of Old Trafford, and those who did wouldn’t last 10 minutes under Sir Alex.

It’s not about fitness or physical toughness. It’s not even about skill. At this level, skill and fitness are almost taken for granted. I read a quote once from one of those old Eastern European coaches from the 50s, Hungary I think. I don’t remember the exact words, but he said you can go to any playground in the country and find players with more skill than you’ll ever need. But what’s harder to find, and what can’t be taught or learned, are the inner qualities that distinguish “warrior winners” from everybody else.

If Capello picked his teams like Sir Alex picks ours, we wouldn’t have the ludicrous situation of him whinging about a lack of mental toughness, or how he knew from watching their warm-up that they were going to have a bad game. I guarantee that if Sir Alex ever had those thoughts about even one player, that guy would be out the door immediately.

  64. FletchTHEMAN says:

Cyril. One can only guess that is why Paul Pobga is with the seniors and Ravel Morrison is not. Hope Ravel gets sorted as that kid has some tallent.

  65. CedarsDevil says:

    Cyril & StatesideAussie

You guys touched on similar things in your posts, great minds etc (Not sure that’s applicable to either of you though! lol)

Seriously, well said both of you. Sir Alex looks for more than skill and ability in players that will get to wear the shirt…. Makes you wonder how long that cunt Balotelli would last at United eh…

  66. FletchTHEMAN says:

Off topic. Murray has been handed the easiest opponent available. A patsy. But crikey that lad Andy needs someone to manage his image. Always looks like an 18 year old just out of his growth spurt who got handed 100quid an 10 min in the Nike shop.

  67. Cyril Sneer says:

@Fletch – I think you’re right. Ravel is of course a great talent but he needs to get his head sorted out. Pogba doesn’t seem to have that problem, like he knows what he wants and he’s working hard to get it. I’m sure when Ravel sees the progress the others are making he will step up. Nobody wants to be the kid that got left behind while everyone else shot into the first team :-)

@Cedars – Oi! Just because I spend most of the time taking the piss doesn’t mean I can’t have the odd moment of insightful comment! :-P Stateside and I are both super geniuses… Genii… Geniums… Geraniums… Blah! Viva John Terry!

  68. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Stateside & Cyril, Excellent posts! Takes me back to memory lane when I started watching football 10 years ago. I fell in love with a certain Irish footballer who displayed all the qualities that you’ve mentioned and move. He was the main reason why the quality of “Manchester United” is so ingrained in my psyche. Each time I think about what this club represents and how I should go about supporting it, there are two people that come to mind from my generation – one is of course Sir Alex Ferguson. The other is that certain Irish footballer that we all love.

hez got physique, strength, attitude, skills and all he needs to do is just step it up..

  72. Andooo says:

Pogba is going to be an absolute monster! The guy has that ‘I can run at a brick wall and come out on top’ look about him. Plus the guy cant half play, some of the goals he has been banging in for the reserves are astonishing to say the least.

Him and Ando are gonna be shitting on all who dare come before them in a couple of years time.

  73. Costas says:

Hi mate. All’s well. I hope you are fine too. I appreciate you asking, but I honestly haven’t seen a lot of him. But from what I hear at ROM, the boy is primed for big things. What about you?

  81. sandeep1878 says:

    Costas,

    i m well mate, thanks.

even i havent seen him seen him play in a live game, just the youtube videos and ROM views..

    as Sir Alex put it,

the lad has great physique, strength, attitude and skills..

so i m thrilled and the cup games shall give us an insight on the lad..

    hoping for the best..

what i have seen from the vidoes, he is strong, got ability to shoot from outside the boxes and has scored plenty such wonderful goals..

i wouldnt solely depend on those videos,

i hope the lad doesnt get pressure from the expectations..

in Sir Alex we trust and i believe the name Pogba will be long chanted by the OT FAITHFUL

  84. bobkoh says:

Internationals, YAWN!…bring back the Premier League!

  85. Red Neck says:

Jonny Evans would probably be a guaranteed starter for most teams in the premier league and it’s a great measure of the quality in United’s defence that he’s worried about his place in the team. The young players are playing without fear and it shows, and why shouldn’t they. they’ve seen the busby babes do it, they’ve seen Fergies fledgelings do it and now it’s their turn. There at the right club at the right time, no reason why they can’t dominate the prem for years. This side will grow together unlike the assorted mercenaries from shity or the rent boys who will have a staff turnover to rival Macdonalds.

  86. This Is The One says:

Pogba will play against Leeds scum I reckon. How old is he? No older than 19 I’m sure. He’ll run the show at Elland Road. I can’t wait for that game.

I hope Berba plays as well. It’ll be like taking Picasso to a finger printing session at a nursery. An artist at a shithole. The Berb and Owen up-front. Take Giggsy too. I’d just love it if we humiliate them. Decimate them. Fucking racist, sexist, classless, toothless dickheads. They’re still clinging onto when Beckford scuffed his shot two years ago.

Mini rant over. Back on topic, how can Evans feel old, he’s 23 for fuck sake. I wish I was 23, being the future of our club, playing with top players who also happen to be my best mates.

  87. This Is The One says:

That last bit wasn’t having a go at at Jonny by the way. I was just saying how I’d love to be in his position.

  88. wayne says:

After the Arse game some of the ABUs were saying Evans is the weak link. What I see is the twins,Jones and Smalling just being exceptionally talented. In the majority of teams Evans would be a standout player.
Utd are on the verge of having a special team,if these lads stay together and the youngsters keep coming through, people will be going Barca who?

  89. King Eric says:

Stateside – Evening mate, or morning in your case. Spot on. Top post.

  90. wayne says:

Red Neck our posts are similar, wasn’t ripping your post off I’m driving and hadn’t refreshed my Blackberry so hadn’t read your post.We were just thinking similar things mate

  91. StatesideAussie says:

As it stands, we have Vidic, Rio, Smalling, Jones, Evra, Evans and the Twins. We can argue that when everyone’s fit and available, some of those guys are better than the others. But on current form, I don’t see any “weak links” in there. I really don’t. I don’t see any names on there who might put a smile of relief on an opposing coach’s face or a glimmer of hope in his eyes. No one that an opposing coach or striker might decide to target because he can be “found out.”

Last year was a bit different. Smalling was new and hadn’t established himself. Evans, as he himself admits, had dropped off the pace. But this year, no one will take Smalling lightly, Evans has been back to his best. And though Jones is new, it’s pretty fucking obvious to everuone that he’s total class and needs no time to get settled in or prove himself, he looks like he’s been playing there for years and was born to the task.

Form will flow and ebb throughout the year. Injuries will come and (hopefully) go. Suspensions will happen. No squad is immune from those things. But pick any combination of Vidic, Rio, Smalling, Jones and Evans in the middle, and any combination of Evra, Smalling and the Twins outside, and I won’t be chewing my fingernails over that. Weak links? Nah. Not in that crew.

  92. mikekelly12 says:

    Stateside

And if all but one of Vidic, Rio, Smalling, Jones and Evans were to be sidelined with injury, we have the young Tom Thorpe who I’m sure will step up to the plate. A fantastic centre back who plays with a maturity far beyond his years,

  93. FletchTHEMAN says:

Tyler Blackett scores 1-0 Reserves! Good one son. Comeon Young reds!!! MUFC

  94. fergie is the boss says:

mikekelly12 – maybe but he may lack the experience to be thrown to the lion’s. I do think if it got to that situation a game at OT would be the better bet. Like I say it is welbeck and cleverly’s turn, has the boss’s policy, 2 youth players a year will break through, if revel gets his head in check we will get the hatrick of players breaking through

  95. Red Neck says:

    Wayne,

No problem mate, can’t help thinking the same things can we. You just made the same point without rattling on like I did.

  96. Mes says:

Guys I need your help if possible.

Is there anyone here who can give me any advice as to where I can watch our beloved reds in New York, San Diego / Escondido and LA. The Mrs and I are away on our honeymoon and I’m going to be in NY for Benfica, SD / Escondido for the Chavs and LA for Leeds Scum.

Not the saddest state of affairs but obviously I don’t wanna miss anything.

Any help would be, well… you all know full well how much it would be appreciated.

    I’m clutching at straws here!

    Chin chin

Keane makes it 2-0 v Burnley. Not a pretty game now in the 69thminute but look like we will win it.

In New York, a pub called Nevada Smiths is the best place to catch any game.

Its definitely the best place for United games.

    Mes
All the matches should be on FoxSoccer although some get shunted to ESPN2.
Most sports bars will have access but you might need to ask them to put it up if there isn’t a group watching.

I will be in LA most of the year before heading back to Europe next year. If you are in west la you can drop a line and we can try to hook up.
As in most US cities, most games are up in the irish and english style pubs. Ye Olde Kings Head pub in SantaMonica is one of many. Here is a link I just found.

    Talking about watching United…

Anyone from Melbourne could you please let this United fan know where to watch his team between the 24th of October to the 1 November because I am going down under mate strewth yeah

And of course I await with great anticipation to learn from my good friend Dave Malaysia where I could watch United in Kuala Lumpur ;) 1 November – 5 November

    I’m coming DM I’m coming!

  110. CedarsDevil says:

wayne – lol must be something with the name Georgie, both Thompson and Bingham could do with a spanking and if I am really pushed I might oblige!

  111. FletchTHEMAN says:

Tyler Blackett and Keane the scorers. 2-0 FT v Bury in Manchester Senior Cup play. Ben Amos in goal.

  112. smartalex says:

FletchTHEMAN – What’s the final score in that reserves clash against Bury?

  113. smartalex says:

  117. FletchTHEMAN says:

Smartalex. Sam must have his bags still packed. I thought he was at Oldham since July.

  118. Cyril Sneer says:

MG I’m shocked at you! Cheating on Hayley McQueen! Tsk Tsk…

  119. smartalex says:

FletchTHEMAN – He was with Oldham in pre-season, I think he returned to us a couple of weeks ago. It’s good that Scunthorpe are giving him this chance. A bit risky for them taking on a young keeper, which shows he must have quality. Also, it’s great that Oliver Norwood is there, better for both of them, and easier for us to track their progress.

  120. MG says:

    Cyril.

    As if.

  121. Mes says:

@Wayne – cheers mate, sound advice

@AnomanderRake – just checked that one out. Sounds the fuckin business. NICE ONE! Apparently Rattle n Hum in NY show all the Champs League games, which I would prefer as I’m a craft beer nut and the beer selection in there is pretty outstanding, however, I’m not sure what the locals will make of me in a United shirt shouting my head off at the TV like a lunatic, so it’s looking like Nevada Smiths is the winner. Thanks a lot.

@Fletch – mate that would be amazing. Will be in LA so Santa Monica is really close. I’d fuckin love to watch the game with you. However, that one is the one I’m most worried about catching seeing as it’s only a Carling Cup game. What you reckon?

You guys are amazing. Love Red folk.

  122. smartalex says:

Evra was lucky that the pitch was soft, otherwise his ankle would have snapped for sure in that terrible tackle. He finished the game, and is apparently fit, but I expect Rio will return to the starting line up, and Da Silva (or Evans) start on the left this weekend.

  123. CedarsDevil says:

    Cyril

Agent Maya would like to be involved in one of your missions, she may be only 3 years old now but being a true red means she is way ahead of her age……

  124. FletchTHEMAN says:

Mes Right about the Carling Cup. We will have to see if it is broadcast or not. Should do, but it might not be posted until that week. There will always be options. Very rare that you can’t see a United game.

I suppose that some would say that this is not the whole story but it seems to me (of course !) that it’s pretty obvious who is no longer considered to be TheWayneBoy’s first-choice partner – or his second-choice partner if Danny Welbeck wasn’t injured.

  126. denton davey says:

StateSideAussie @ 17:04: ” I read a quote once from one of those old Eastern European coaches from the 50s, Hungary I think. I don’t remember the exact words, but he said you can go to any playground in the country and find players with more skill than you’ll ever need. But what’s harder to find, and what can’t be taught or learned, are the inner qualities that distinguish “warrior winners” from everybody else.”

Did this guy know about the Da Silva family ? Thirty years before Mum and Dad had some twinkling eyes ??

  127. smartalex says:

Coyle hailed Ferguson’s influence on the next generation of bosses and the unseen human touches behind the scenes. He said: “I will never forget how he was after my Burnley team beat United in our first home game in the Premier. He came in for a chat after the game and it seemed to last for ages. He doesn’t enjoy losing. But he is very humble and gracious and respectful of everybody else. It speaks volumes for him. I have seen the other side when people lose games and won’t come into my room afterwards. But that is why he is a champion.”

  128. CedarsDevil says:

    smartalex

Good on Coyle to say it like it is………… Not that any further evidence was needed but it just goes to show yet again what a true great Sir Alex is in every sense of the word

  129. smartalex says:

CedarsDevil – Every time we read a comment from Sir Alex’s foes they show such respect and admiration for him that I am truly in awe of his magnificence. Truly in awe.

Of course, there’s also Benitez! Fergie reckons Rafa “is not my friend!”

    Factually speaking, what a laugh!

  130. CedarsDevil says:

    smartalex

Benitez is a joke of a man and a human being… He tried to go head to head with the boss, tried his own mind games and in the end totally lost his own mind.

  131. smartalex says:

CedarsDevil – ‘Benitez is a joke of a man’ – truer words have never been spoken!

In his interview today on his time at Inter, he says: “It was a great experience for me, I won two trophies in six months and amongst those was the one that president Moratti and all Inter fans had wanted for years, the Club World Cup.”

And Benitez says he hasn’t been short of offers since December. “Three teams in Spain, two in Germany, two national teams in Asia and Africa have approached me but let’s just say I’m waiting for the right time and the right project.”

Notice that none of the teams were mentioned by name, probably because we’ve never heard of them!

  132. MG says:

    Rafa wants the United job

  133. Red Devil says:
