Evans: Only Ronaldo and RvP Had Guaranteed Place

Jonny Evans has claimed that during the past few years under Sir Alex Ferguson, only Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie have been guaranteed a place in the starting XI. Whilst this almost certainly wasn’t intended as a dig at his pal Wayne Rooney, it suggests that the players have little sympathy for Rooney’s tantrum about having to earn his place in the team like everyone else.

“Unless it was Robin van Persie or Cristiano Ronaldo when he was here, there was never a first choice in any position,” said Evans. “If you didn’t perform he would have you out of the team, but then if one of the other players had a game or two when they weren’t at their best the manager would have no problem putting you back in. The key thing was whenever he picked a team you always thought he was doing it for a reason, not because of any personal vendetta or that he didn’t rate you. Now we don’t know how the new manager will work. That is why everyone is so desperate to impress.”

Well to be fair, the same could be said about Evra or Rio too.

  2. markdegea says:

I will put M16 in that list too

  3. markdegea says:

Maybe you should put a call to Rooney to tell him that. You don’t perform u are out the team, u perform u ar in. Simple as A B C. U can not have it both ways

  4. kanchelskis says:

    @markdegea

Latterly, yes. But in his first couple of seasons, Carrick was dropped a fair few times.

  5. markdegea says:

    Yah. @kanchelski
    I stand being corrected.
    Cheers mate

  6. bayoRed says:

And that’s just how it should be, tired of players demanding a guarantee of playing time. Impress the manager and you are in. If you slack off then bugger off! Big quality squads breed competition that means players will remain under pressure to perform that is a good thing. So Rooney needs to shape up!

  7. josa says:

    J. Evans u re very stupid for that statement. Everybody knows rooney was a starter a before things changed. Rvp just played one season and u said he is a starter. Stupid evans, fuck u evans

  8. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

this is EXACTLY how it should ALWAYS be. If you don’t play well, you get subbed, if you play well, you keep your place. Throw every single tantrum in the world you like it won’t change anything. Rooney think he has it bad at United? United are even more forgiving than other clubs. Try this at Chelsea, City, Madrid, Barcelona, PSG. Within ONE YEAR they will have spent 100 million on your replacement. LOL. He better be happy he’s here.

  9. kanchelskis says:

What makes Rooney’s attitude even more bizarre is that, especially last season, even he seemed undroppable at times – no matter how badly he was playing. In fact, before his disquiet became public, it was basically only two games (Madrid at OT and one other I don’t exactly recall) that he was categorically dropped (not rested) for. Fergie may not have handled the situation perfectly at the back end of the season, but it’s no surprise he lost patience with the ungrateful wanker.

  10. markdegea says:

    @Bayored
Agree with every thing there. If u wanna be in the team, man-up n do what is necessary instead of living in the past. Angry and confuse my ass. To me, anybody that is confuse and angry at thesame time, needs a serious psychological help

  11. bayoRed says:

Angry & confused that you failing to do your job… I tell my self that Rooney didn’t actually say the words and credit these to Stretfords manuvers to put his player up for sale coz that’s how he makes $$$

  12. bayoRed says:

‘maneuvers’ English not a first language!

  13. spidey says:

Rooney’s dilemma may be justified on only one end that he was asked to play out of position.. But that too is a very lame excuse.. He did provide decent returns but had a very frustrating season…for a player who has scored almost 200 goals for our club this situation is slightly perplexing.. But SAF has a history of forcing players out for the sake of the team and this maybe a welcome change.. Though of he leaves united need a quality buy coz I am still not convinced there is anyone else in the squad with his kind of vision when in form

  14. wayne says:

Rooney has been that category before there’s been plenty of times when Rooney has gone any number of games not playing well and Sir Alex kept playing him. He’s always been a streaky player and most seasons has used games to work himself into fitness
There’s been very few seasons were Rooney has been consistently good from start to finish.I’d say up to last season Rooney was untouchable and maybe that’s were the problem lies with his attitude

  15. scholes18 says:

I would have thought Edwin was a guaranteed starter too

  16. King Eric says:

Josa. No FUCK YOU you moron. Jesus what’s happened on here? Full of cunts. Why would a so called United fan tell a player ” fuck you” ? Horrible cunts. Not fans fucking idiots.

I have a sneaky feeling Rooney will stay especially after that BACK poster yesterday with Rooney on it for Stockholm game.

Pellegrini at it. Says best strike force in league. No don’t think so. Italian and Spanish leagues much easier to score in. Bet Negredo doesn’t get 25 goals next season. What is it with these shithouse clubs and their blabbing? Never hear United do it. Empty vessels and all that.

  17. wayne says:

King Eric he’s got nowhere to go mate his wife doesn’t want to leave her family.Maureen giving it all the lip service Rent Boys have made 1 bid for 20 mill which is a piss take.Monaco and PSG already signed strikers.

  18. Dela says:

@King Eric –> Yes mate, this place has way too many knob heads now. I used to come here nearly every day, one of first things I did at work or if I was at home, check whats new and maybe drop a few comments but the past couple of seasons in particular it’s just impossible to have to read the bollocks here. Maybe RoM is getting more traffic but eventually it will lose most of its older regulars I think.

  19. murt73 says:

@josa Evans only said he was one of two players who were guaranteed starters in the last several years, he never said RVP had been here several seasons ya muppet, read it again and don’t be making a fool of yourself what do you have against Evans?
If Roo had to leave he should consider going back to his boyhood club, takin a pay cut and perhaps helping the new manager win a trophy for everton and the fans who he’s bringing his kids up to support.. Doubt that will happen as its dollars hes more concerned about. Them days seem to be well gone for most players and makes me appreciate likes of Scholes and Giggsy even more

  20. King Eric says:

Dela. Oh I know mate I miss your posts. Always level headed good comments.

wayne. Ha I know pal. He’s fucked it, nowhere to go.

  21. tolumancunian says:

Statiscally,Rooney’s influence has been on d wane since 3 seasons ago n injuries hasn’t helped his case too but d club should come first. His excesses r unbecoming. Let him get back to his best if he wants to be the undisputed striker in our team. Becks, cantona, ronaldo e.t.c all left n we moved on. MUFCJ what city n chelsea wish they were. UTD will never die

  22. Ancientgreek says:

    Hahahhahahahaahah Evans

  23. Kagawabungabunga says:

Hate him,,,love him still he gave his best for this club

  24. Brendan says:

Don’t think man u will get into top 4 t

  25. spidey says:

    @brendan
First of all try not to use ‘ man u’ please read up on the history as to why.. Secondly if you are someone who has mo belief even before the season has started you can go support some fucking rentbiy project club..

  26. spidey says:

    *no
    *rentboy

  27. King Eric says:

Brenda is a dipper. Been on here lots of times. We’ll do considerably better than your lot Brenda.

  28. best 1959 says:

    Gentlemen
The debate on Wayne hinges on what we think of his agent. To use Edward Heath , Stretford is the unacceptable face of football agents (i’m not sure there is an acceptable face) even Pepe brother appears underhand.

Rooney could of been one of the greatest, could still be if his approach to his profession was just that professional.
I struggled to forgive when in my opinion his unprofessional behaviour and disrespect to himself, our club and supporters allowed himself to be left out of the team New Year 2012.

As we all know we lost to the bottom club and City one the league on goal difference.

The rift with SAF had begun with his transfer request , but amazingly he still felt able to joke at his expense at the Christmas quiz (Becks flying boot) tellingly SAF responded by “this will cost you”.

I was against Nani playing in the qtrs ,I thought the team in the first leg was a RVP chance away from a 2-1 win, but who am I to judge a managerial genius. SAF demands 100% loyalty to him and to our club when this is in question then the bond is broken.

In my opinion this is what has occurred ever since his dance with Mancini, slowly moving to the inevitable

He should go , I wish he would stay , but fear he is not able to live the monastic life that a footballer needs to reach his full potential.

Rooney could of been spoken of in the same breath as Ronnie , his natural ability is probably the equal or even better. His commitment to greatness alas missing at every juncture.

Only Georgie had the genius to abuse his body and still reach greatness , had he Ronnies desire there would be no deabte about he versus Pele.

  29. bbabyj says:

Valencia seemed to be guaranteed a place no matter how he performed…

  30. josa says:

@king eric, u are a moron too. Evans is bias cuz everybody knows rooney was a guaranteed starter except last season, why would he alter that statement if he is not bias.
