Evra: At United You Carry The Weight Of The Club’s History

More talk from Patrice Evra which makes you love him that little bit more.

“To play for Manchester United demands huge sacrifices,” said Evra. “This is a club of hard workers. You are there to work hard, there are no glass jewels or paste trinkets here. At United you are carrying the weight of the club’s history. You become a Red Devil when you have fully understood that. The mentality of this club is to hate defeat. In four years I have lost very few League games. To win three League titles was a real achievement. To win a fourth this season would make us legends.”

Evra then went on to hail the impact Sir Alex Ferguson has had on him during his time at United.

“I’m not saying I am better but I really believe in my own qualities as a player,” he added. “His demand for success drives him on and pushes him to the limit. He makes you aware of your responsibilities regarding the team. He trusts me. That means a lot to me. I do what he tells me to do. The day when I can no longer work that hard, I know he will have no qualms at all of dropping me from the team.”

  5. King Eric says:

“there are no glass jewels or paste trinkets here”. Superb, but what exactly are paste trinkets? I love Pat and if he sees out his career here he will go down as a legend. There is a great spirit and belief among the players this season to go for that 19th title.

  6. vidic will get ya15 says:

  11. Shak says:

    Cheers ulster red.
He is world class n without a shadow of a doubt the best on in the world. Going forward or defending he’s been brilliant

  12. Ulster Red says:

no problem mate, but ive said on this site before the only thing evra could improve is his final cross into the box, he is the best at supporting the left midfield player and usualy spends more time higher up the pitch!! gets into great postions through is own awareness and skill but if only he could deliver a really good ball, it always seems to go to deep or too short, never the less i still love patrice!

  13. David Watts says:

Been awesome for United since arriving and the stand-out player this year, but it’s comments like this that will mark him down as a United legend, a club that a certain Mr Ronaldo would never get into…

Love the comment from Bruce Thomas BTW….

  14. audiods says:

    Good Cricket!

  22. Swissdevil says:

In a paper I read, that pat doesnt drink Sprite / 7up anymore… he stays away of everything thats green…cos it reminds him too much of ireland who he’ll face with france this weekend ;-)

but i just love the lad, he’s amazing player!

  23. wazza (Bezi) says:

hope Pat keeps his word and not move on if Real or Barca come calling. he must be missing Park

  24. brett1985 says:

It could be worse, he could have to carry the weight of Alan Wylie

  25. RedMist says:

    C’est magnifique!

  26. OSHEA22 says:

why dont fletcher and evra got any songs?? these players deserve their own song!!!!! or what??!!

  27. ZD Casuals says:

Ah, Evra… always coming out with the right words. We definitely need an Evra song soon!

I know how most of you feel about internationals, but it’s Evra related: I just read that he had stopped drinking Sprite – because it reminds him of Ireland. I think it was from the same interview that Scott posted in midweek. He also goes on to claim his teammates have been wearing green (on purpose) to play with his mind ahead of the playoff games.

Man, he’s riled up. He must have really dished it out when the Euros were on. They must give each other such stick – it would be great to be a fly on the wall and listen to that banter!

  28. cantona7 says:

“The day when I can no longer work that hard, I know he will have no qualms at all of dropping me from the team.”

Speaks a lot about SAF. The Greatest Manager Ever. And speaks a lot about Evra’s professionalism too. He will work hard for himself, the club and for the Red Devil.

  29. Fze123 says:

    lol @ brett1985

“To win a fourth this season would make us legends.” Hmm, I already classified Evra as a legend. The most consistent and brilliant player so far this season.

  30. LET ME FEEL THE LOVE AGAIN says:

WHEN HEINZE AND PATRICE WERE BATTLING FOR THE LEFT BACK POSISTION I WAS TRULY CONFUSED AS TO WHICH ONE WOULD COME OUT ON TOP THANKFULLY THE CREAM ROSE TO THE TOP HE IS A FANTASTIC PLAYER PROBABLY THE BEST LEFT BACK IN THE WORLD AND TO HEAR HIM COME OUT WITH COMMENTS ABOUT WHAT IT IS LIKE TO PLAY FOR UNITED

  31. bchilds says:

Gotta love Pat, keep it coming Evra! Been one of our best performers so far this season in my opinion.

  32. jamiemufc1974 says:

a massive player and a great lad as well!. fast becoming our greatest ever left back! tough call between him and denis irwin but i think pat shades it. What a fuckin total legend!

  33. MG says:

    Evra

Then every body else below : )

  34. King Eric says:

jamiemufc1974 – Hmm not sure mate it’s a tricky one. To me Denis Irwin is still United’s best ever left back. NEVER had a bad game or put a foot wrong. Pat is THE best left back in the world today though.

  35. theboogeyman says:

King Eric- Irwin used to take the pens and freekicks as well and he contributed a few goals, so I think he’s first.

Pat’s a close second to him, though.
