Evra: I Say Thanks To God I Play For United

Patrice Evra. I love you. That is all.

“I got a load of DVDs,” said Evra. “About the Munich disaster and the Busby Babes, about Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law, about Cantona. The whole story of the club. You meet these people around the club and I wanted to know who they were. What they had done for the club. Out of respect. Because when you shake the hand of Sir Bobby Charlton you can feel the legend. All the young players here need to understand the history of the club. After I watched those DVDs I realised I needed to respect the shirt. I needed to respect the story. Every time I play that is in my head. What a privilege it is to play for Manchester United. When you pull on the shirt you are pulling on history, and I say thanks to God that I play for this club. To be able to come in and train here. To work with legends like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. When I arrived here people asked me what excited me most. I said it was not training with Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney but players like Giggs and Scholes. They are the history of the club. Giggs trains like a player who has never won anything in his career. His hunger. His desire to win, even on the training pitch.”

  5. VT says:

    IMHO he is the best in the world when he opens his mouth…….
    but he is not too far behind in the list when it comes to talking about fullbacks(though i doubt if there is anyone better than him)……
    one of the best Sir Alex signings……..
    a LEGEND…………4 sure

  6. curtis says:

    Now about the title Pat, please remind everyone not to give up regardless of the chavs result on sunday..

    I fancy chelsea to beat liverpool for obvious reasons but we should still go all out to win against sunderland. cause on the last day anything can still happen. remember when we had to win against wigan how tense that was even tho it looked an easy game on paper and had it not been for calm heads like giggs, rio etc and of course ronnies cool penalty we could have end up without the title so lets push them all the way regardless of their sunday result and lets see if the brave JT and talismanic Lamps and co can handle that pressure the way our lads can, i somehow doubt it (see JT penalty miss )

  7. Sir Alex says:

    My heart swells up with pride and love for this man whenever I read his interviews. I loved the part where he said Fergie will die on the bench. Evra means everything he says; truly appreciates playing for us, more than any other player at Utd.

  23. North Stand Tier 2 says:

    He’s a fucking legend and one of our most important players. Madrid can fuck off they’ve got no chance of getting Evra. Madrid are fucking shit anyway.

  24. rossee says:

    EVRA IS OUTSTANDING HIS CONTRIBUTION ON & OFF THE FIELD…..LET HIM HAVE THE CAPTAINCY BACK……..IF MADRID WANT HIM £150 MILLION MIGHT JUST ABOUT DO IT ASLONG AS THEY THROW IN BENZEMA, DA VAART, DIARRA & RONALDO………..LOL

  25. rossee says:

    IS THERE ANY CHANTS FOR EVRA…….IMMA MAKE ONE UP & PUT IT ON HERE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS……

  26. Paul Parker says:

    I don’t always get it right with our players… im still waiting on next season for Berbatov to prove all his doubters wrong… but I promise, from the first time I saw Evra competing with Heinze for his place, seeing him have his shakey start with us…. back when everybody was saying Heinze was the better Player… even then I saw the way he played, his strength, his temperament, his pace, the way he always kept his head up, his effort to correct his mistakes…. I just knew he would be a huge player for us given time and im glad to say he’s exceeded my expectations. Evra is a HUUUUGE fucking player for us these days, and I hope to see Fabio brought into the team to rest Evra and prolong his career. We have the choice of Fabio or Evra at Left back, can’t complain can ya? And as others have said, Evra’s link up play with Nani on the Left is devasting, I always call him our second Left Winger cos im sure he spends half his time in the Oppositions final third. Somebody compared him to Irwin too, I’d agree with that, he’s just as consistent and has a similar temperament. except Irwin scored classic free kicks!

    ….and so when Neville, and RIo, and Giggs, eventually step down, Evra should be our Captain.

    AND OLE SHOULD BE OUR MANAGER !!!!!

  27. alan wood says:

    we love u patty

  28. Linvoy says:

    @rossee… Someone put this one here the other day! Can’t remember who it was so can’t give credit but it’s one for our Pat!

    Forget about ronaldo, carlos teves too;
    We’ve got a lad who’s united thru & thru;
    He’ll beat up ur groundsmen, and bomb down the wing;
    He’s French, he fast, he’s fuckin class;
    So hear united sing;
    Tra la lala Patrice Evra, tra la lala

  29. lawman10 says:

  30. NorwegianRed says:

  31. parjo says:

  36. Red Devil 19 says:

    Viva Pat Evra! Viva Pat Evra! Running down the wing! hear united sing! Viva Pat Evra!!

  37. Supatrice says:

    Love the man. He obviously has been blown away by the history of the club and feels great pride in playing for us and he’s also a bit eccentric, which is brilliant.

  38. glazereraser says:

    Oozes class this man. Love him, he embodies the diehard in the stand who’d give an arm and a leg to pull on the shirt. Effort, class and charisma, hope to god he ends his career with us, where he knows he belongs.

  39. willierednut says:

    Any player that takes the time to learn about the clubs history, is a top bloke in my book. Now the flip side of that is, Ekotto who said he has no passion for football and is only in it for the money.

  40. mufc4ever says:

    Patric is a fantastic player and he loves the Club. That is the commitment we need from all the players

  41. damo81 says:

    everything that comes out of Potty Paddy’s gob is exactly what you want to hear, absolute legend and future captain. hoping he’s united for life, he sounds like he thinks that way.

  48. Felix Tanui. says:

    Wonderful work our dear Evra,may Almighty God bless you so that you continue playing our beloved team Manchester United.Glory glory Patrice Evra.

  49. Giles Oakley says:

    Belatedly, I agree with all the things people have been saying about the wonderful Patrice. I loved the fact that he got out all the DVDs etc to find out about the history of the club. Nice to think he’s already got his own niche in future DVDs on United’s history. He’s certainly ‘fit to wear the shirt’ and it’s great to know he understands exactly what that means.
