On Manchester United’s trophy tour of Asia, Patrice Evra has told CNN Go that he never gets bored of winning trophies.
“No, that is the curse of Manchester United. It is never enough to win the trophies,” he said. “That’s why Manchester United is a big club, and we want to stay on the top. And next year, we are going to have the same hunger to win every game. If you don’t have the hunger, you [will] get the hairdryer from Ferguson.”
Evra has also revealed that he speaks English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, but has struggled to learn Korean, the language of his best mate Ji-Sung Park.
“Ji speaks very good English, but I want to learn so I can speak to the fans,” he said. “I have been to Korea four times, and they love me so much. But I can’t communicate with them.”

I regards to our youth, the first wave that needs to start making their mark is the Welbeck/Macheda/Cleverley trio. Pogba, Tunni and Morrison will still need more work. I can’t wait to see them, as well as Reece Brown, in the league cup games though. Denton made a good point about Morrison staying under Fergie’s umbrella. That’s a must at this stage. I still don’t know if it will be enough though. I don’t think Fergie has dealt with many guys situations like his.

If thet DO lose Fabregas ,which is a given, and Nasri I honestly don’t think they stand a chance of finishing second. I fully expect obviously United, the Rent boys , City all to finish above them. Imo the Rooney-Herandez partnership requires that we play 4-4-2. And if that’s the case, I don’t see where Nasri will play other than the wing. Mike, the way I see it, how many people come to us and don’t improve? Not many. If Nasri comes here and Sir Alex gets more out of him than Wenger did (a possibility not beyond my imagination for sure) then we have (possibly) got a very very good player.
@Mes, The question is not whether Nasri improves his game with United – He will. But is he the right player for us when the problems lie elsewhere?
Let’s get this straight – Nasri is a great prospect for a youngster but his best role is similar to Rooney’s – as a link between the MF and the lone striker/wingers. He has been tried as a winger and it has also proven to be effective because Wenger loves to transform strikers into wingers doesn’t he? However, he has yet to prove himself as an out and out central mid-fielder. He has not played a lot of games for Arsenal there and I am not sure he can take a game by the scruff of its neck and operate from CM.
Unfortunately, that is the kind of player we want. Rooney can do what Nasri does better and be more effective. Nasir is not being thought of as a winger at United because we are already jet, set and go there. So, the question is, where will Nasri operate if he does come here?
Of course, I am just a fan with a second grade knowledge of footballing tactics, if the master can work it out, I am not in a position to question it. However, until then, we can speculate the formation all we want because that is about the only thing we can do ATM.
Nasri sees his best position as a CM. That’s one of the reasons, he’s got pissed off at Arsenal. He can play in there, no doubt about that. In all honesty, we’ve all got opinions about what player can make the difference for us. The only opinion that matters is SAF. If he says Nasri’s the man, then so be it. If it isn’t him, I won’t crying into my beer about it.

I am speculating about Nasri because the interest is very real apparently. In Thiago’s case, the interest was not real, so I never even wrote a post about him in the first place.
Assuming Eduador make it to the next stage, Valencia will be with them until July 16 or 17. The tournament ends on the 24th. I don’t like the fact that after all he’s been through he doesn’t get a chance to rest this summer. I guess Fergie will have to see to that.
Also, seems kind of weird that Ando or the twins didn’t make the Brazil squad. Didn’t know that Brazil had many players better than them.

For reasons that don’t concern us I’d just like to point how overrated Clichy is as player. I don’t know what City think they are getting but Arsenal will not be any worse off for losing this guy. I can remember Match of Day pointing out some of his quite embarrassing defending against us when we hammered them at the Emirates. And on the many many times I’ve seen him playing his defending is average at best. This guy wouldn’t even be a second choice left back for us. First and foremost a defenders job is to defend. Percisely the reason I don’t want us to lose O’Shea, who knows how to defend and very rarely makes any mistakes. Evra, Fabio, Rafael, and O’Shea are better full backs than Clichy. Typical City, their transfer policy is dictated by the back pages.

Wouldn’t really be disappointed if we DIDN’T get Nasi tbh. I think it’s a bit of a gamble- he’s been in this country 3 years and never played in the middle of the park. I know he’s had the likes of Fabregas and Wilshere playing instead……..but I’m not interested in the reasons why. Fact is, he’s in no way whatsoever a proven Premier League central midfielder. And with Scholesy (proven midfielder) retiring- I really think we need to get someone who’s done the business there before.
We’ve already got a couple of “developing” midfielders- Anderson and Cleverley. I see no reason why we should spend money to get another one. We need somebody who’s proven that they can play central midfield, preferably in the Premier League. Which is why I’d go for Modric- however that deal looks dead in the water. Heck, I’d even go for somebody like Arteta tbh.
And before people say Nasri played in central midfield when Fabregas was injured- no he did not. He played in Fabregas’s position- attacking mid/just off the front man. We’ve already got somebody who plays there in Rooney.
What we need is someone who’s shown they can cut the mustard playing in a 2 man midfield- and I’m sorry, Nasri hasn’t shown that. He might be a top player in that position- MIGHT is the operative word there though.

I prefer us with 4-2-3-1 It was awesome in the CL a few years back against the likes of Roma and AC Milan in 2006-07 and has been used quite a lot in europe to match the ability of european midfields.
Also to remind everyone else doubting Rooneys ability as a lone striker. Remember 2009-10, He was monster up front. He got 30+ goals, assisted many goals, Ran around like a mad man but still found time and space in the box to scores headers,tap in’s, bangers and won many penalties. This was all from being a lone striker, with a overflowing cup of confidence and with the support of Valencia, fletcher, Nani who deserve credit for Wazza’s form that year. He is our talisman and at times we was honestly a one man team that year.
Chico is still very young so on the odd ocasion i’d like to see Rooney as a Lone striker when on form because he will have guys like Nani,valencia, young,fletch,ando+Park supporting Him. Also it will help having more man in midfield to combact oppostions 3-man midfield.
Rooney 2009-10 – He was like the human torch, on fire and untouchable. He kept out berba for long spells and I’d like to see more of this prolific rooney. I believe next season he’ll hit 20-25 goals no sweat. Its about hitting 30 for him.

Nasri can play in central midfield. He does so for the French national side alongside Yann M’Vila. Would be quite a coup if we could get both. I hope we get M’Vila for the more mid field enforcer role. He does look a quality player and has publicly stated, for what it’s worth, that he dreams of playing for United.
Heard someone else suggest M’Vila too. Haven’t seen him play, but from what I read he is a 21 year old defensive midfielder. Don’t know if this guy in particular is the answer, but this is the type of player we should be looking for imo. We could get a more creative midfielder, but that wouldn’t solve the problem we had at the back last season where we averaged a goal conceded per game.

Don’t see anything that says that IF we buy Nasri he’s going to play a DM role. I think it would just a good signing, not the signing of the player that’s going to fill that hole we all know needs filling. That issue would still need to be addressed, surely.

I’d just like to get something off my chest. I fucking hate the term attacking midfielder or defensive midfielder. Whatever happened to midfielders being good at both. I don’t remember, when they were at their peak, Keane or Scholes (or Butt for that matter) ever being one or the other. Midfielders, or at least world class one, should be good at both things. They should look to get in the box as often as possible and track back when needed. It’s why you need to be fit as fuck to play there and is what striking up a good midfielder partnership should be all about. Building an understanding of when one should go and the other should sit, and granted one might be more prone to get in the box than the other. I’m sick of this whole, “he doesn’t score many goals because that’s not his job” bullshit. Fair enough when you get a bit older, as in Scholes’ case, you can’t get forward as much as you once could. But when you’re at your peak you should be able to score your fair share of goals and defend too. All this defensive midfield horse shit seemed to grow since the days Makelele joined Chelsea. That’s why Anderson drives me fucking mental. He has the whole package if he’d just get his fucking act together. There, rant over.

It’s why I believe Carrick does what he does, because he’s not good enough to do both. I don’t want to rip on Carrick because I’ve a lot of time for him. He is what he is and he gives his all for the jersey which is all I ask of any United player when they take to the pitch. But the fact is he was never and never will be in the class of Keane or Scholes. It’s a tough ask of any player to live up to that standard but life’s a bitch and that’s the standard that should be required to play for our great club. In my lifetime there’s been Robson, Ince (dare I say it), Keane, Scholes, and hopefully one day we’ll say Anderson. Before anyone proceeds to tare me a new asshole, I still like Carrick and don’t want him to be sold, he’s a handy player to have around.
He’ll play, where Fergie tells him to play. That simple really. It doesn’t effect Nani’s position in the team. It could be the manager wants more expressive players in the team. Nani is most certainly one of those. He’s got great balance and quick change of feet. Can beat players, with ease. Nasri is similar in that sense. I don’t got all the answers. The boss decides who’s good enough to play for United. Not me, or anyone else. I said a few weeks ago, that I’m looking forward to seeing United play next season. On Nasri, am not keen on him as he is lightweight and can get bullied but if Sir signs him then so be it he knows best. He’s premiership proven, needs no time to adjust..

We play a different game, so a DM is helpful for us, we’ve won 4 titles in 5 years with Carrick hardly ever stepping foot in the final third, and look at his delivery for Ronaldo. DM works fine for us. I get the point tho, Pep’s done a good job, BUT I’ll reserve judgement – Rjikaard is a clever manager, thats basically still his team.

As Sir Alex loves to say, we’ve had so many great players on here that it is almost an impossible task to even comprehend. There are few who come close like Duncan Edwards, George Best, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Bryan Robson, Ryan Giggs etc. But you cannot pick one out of them as the greatest of them all is my opinion.
No doubt that ronaldo is among the greatest to play for us and yes i will be always thankful but to say that if not mourinho he would have joined city is really something. it means he did not even consider United’s reaction AT ALL. Don’t really like that.

Football is faster these days, so it’s difficult to say who’s “the best” red ever. Somehow I think the talent of George Best would have done even more under the wings of SAF. But even from what he did, I put him highest. (Only watched videos and clips – but that’s impressive!) A superstar bigger than Ronaldo, but more humble, and with a heart for United to the end.

The goal mikekelly 12 talked about, when he ran half the pitch and scored, was him at his best. Yes, he scores plenty of goals for Madrid, but you rarely see him score goals like that now.

I say united’s form players that year were, VDS brown ferdinand vidic evra and ronaldo for a season that their standards never dropped, everyone had their bit to play, but over a season those 6 were ahead of everyone else

Rai – yes but charlton is probably the greatest British player of all time, certainty him and best are streets ahead of the rest. But do not forget the players fergie already had at his disposal. Schmeicheal, parker palister bruce irwin robson ince kanchelskis sharpe giggs mclair hughes, cantona added more depth to united’s fire power which was lacking strength and depth. Cantona was brought in with some of hardest group of players, and the last of the hard-men of football
@Rai, I second that Fulham goal. He has scored many scorchers and the Porto goal will go in footballing folklore as one of the finest strikes ever, but, in terms of importance and skill, that Fulham goal has to be the best goal Ronaldo has scored in the Red of United.
Comparing Ronaldo and Messi can be very ineffective IMO. People think Messi is better at the moment but he is also playing in a team that is drilled to use his strength effectively. Think Ronaldo playing for United from 06 to 09. That United team served as the perfect foil for Ronnie and hence why he won the Ballon D’Or in 2008. Now, he is stuck in a team that can’t use his strength effectively and he is suffering as a result.
There are a lot of things Ronnie can do that Messi cannot. Like the aforementioned Porto goal and Roonie is a much better header of the ball.
Messi is a better player now – But Ronnie with United and Messi with Barca were near equals – No differences really.

I won’t comment on players I haven’t seen but the greatest United player I’ve seen in my lifetime has been Roy Keane, no question in my mind about that. Can’t really get into an arguement about it because everyone will have their own opinions and their own valid reasons but when Keane was at his peak he never looked inferior to any opposing player and that includes the greatest player of that generation, Zidane. Honorable mention to Schmeichel and Scholes. I often get stick for not including Cantona but I can’t based purely on his European form. I love him and what he did for this club and if you asked me to name the most important United player in my lifetime I may well say Cantona. He brought a flare and winning mentality to set the juggernaut rolling and for that I will love him forever. Roy Keane though, my word, what a player what a captain.

My favorite player that I’ve seen in my time supporting United is Ruud Van Nistelrooy. He is, was, and always will be my first ever man crush. He was one of the few players I hoped from my heart that Sir Alex would not sell. The man was a machine. Everything he touched turned to goals and he got me obsessed with goal poachers in the first place, which has continued with a love for Hernandez right now.
As for the greatest ever player I’ve seen, that would be Ryan Giggs. I started watching when Roy Keane had delivered his best in 1999-2001 for us. I still got to see him in his best from 2001-2005 but it was not quite like watching those prime years. Giggs on the other hand has been an ever-present and his transformation shows no limits. He has gone from being a blistering winger to a more clever winger who produces directed crosses to a central mid-fielder with an eye for pass. His fitness is tremendous and I don’t think most people nowadays can consistently perform at the highest level for United as he has done over the past 20 years. Ryan Giggs it is for me.

You cant really compare Fabregas’ behaviour to Nasri’s. Fabregas has been there for all six years of Arsenal’s failure, plus he’s wanted to go for a long time and has acted respectfully of the club and remained. [And re-sined a long term contrat which means his club wont be forced to sell him on the cheap.]
Whereas Nasri has only been there 3 years, hasn’t once re-signed and is now clamoring for a move to Arsenal’s biggest rivals [us].
Dont get me wrong: I think he’s a great player and I hope we get him, but Fabregas has acted much more honourably. Nasri is pulling a Rooney, although his demands for success are more reasonable than Wazza’s.

That Wolves storys has to be a piss take! The striker Wenger has really been after for the last few seasons is Gervinho, and I must say he’s developed very well since then. He won the double last year with Lillie, and his goal record is something like 35 in 70 games with 15 odd assists. About 24 years old and looks a decent player. Only gonna cost Arsenal 11M and Samba will probably cost the same. Plus Wenger will still have the 50-60M from Cesc, Nasri and Cliche.
He’s no Alex but he’s no mug! He complained about losing Anelka, but he only bought him for 500K and sold him for 22.5M, and while he was publicly dragging his feet, nobody knew Wenger already had his eye on the young winger Henry. He paid 11M for Henry and thats 100% his player. For every pink shoed poof theirs a Vieira fellas! Im sure he’s got a list of midfielders NOBODIES heard off – after all he spotted Nasri? – Can’t really write him off and bite off his hand at the same time!

If Arsenal can get Samba and/or Cahill with Gervinho, they could be our main rivals next season. But that doesn’t over-ride the loss of Fabregas, Clichy (not a huge loss IMO) and maybe Nasri even. But it will definitely add some balls to their team which has been needed for some time now.
On paper, though, I can’t see a lot of obstacles for our 20th next season. Pity EPL seasons are not played on paper.

WHAT ??? – the problem is, wenger does not have a team that can win the league, he starts losing more quality then it becomes more than a gaping hole. When fergie has let players go this summer, he has gone out and spend money on his main targets fast, in summer 2009 ronaldo and tevez leave, but united still had a team in place capable of winning the league. Wenger also cannot realise when he has weakness’s in his squad, since 2005 those weaknesses have got bigger and bigger and bigger, and look at his squad now. In terms of just management skills as of present, there are a lot of managers in Sir Alex’s league for sure like the two names you mentioned. However, Sir Alex has been in that league for the past 25 years using different management styles and philosophies. That puts him in a different league altogether IMHO.
