Evra: The ‘Arsenal Way Of Playing’ vs 5 Years With No Trophies

Patrice Evra, who is not a popular guy amongst Arsenal fans after saying our Champions League semi-final battering at the Emirates was like ‘men against boys/babies’, has rubbed further salt in the wounds.

Arsenal’s last trophy came in 2005 after beating United on penalties. Since then, United have won three league titles, the European Cup, three League Cups and World Club Cup.

Evra doesn’t under why people talk about Arsenal’s style of football when, essentially, it has lead to five barren years.

“In my opinion, Arsenal is just an Academy,” said Evra. “I watch their games, they’re a pleasure to watch, but will they win a title? That’s what people remember. In 10 years, nobody will remember of them. Arsenal is a great Club, they didn’t win a trophy for 5 years, it’s a crisis in my opinion. People always think about the ‘Arsenal way of playing’, but at the end, there’s nothing. We can lose 13-0 against them, but at the end what happen? Nothing. No trophy, no nothing.”

Hope his comments dont backfire on us!

  2. spacemanspiff says:

Evra should do the talking on the pitch. He might have to deal with Nasri on Monday. So he’d better back these words with action on the pitch.

  3. ajopaul says:

Yes, last time before the derby he was in the same mood.. but nothing came out of shitty game..

  4. unitedibk says:

well see on monday, but im confident that we wont losing 13-0

  5. devil without a cause says:

    sooo true pat soooo true……………
playing dirty but winning is much much better than playing beautiful and winning fuck all………….

  6. ajopaul says:

But this will be different from a derby game, coze just like valencia, Arsenal will have an open minded play, they’l attack, if we slip they’l put us in tremendous pressure. But the secret to beat them is to attack further, they tend to sleep once in a while, so counter attack should be our prime weapon. Also hoping our forwards convert the half chances this time..

  7. Costas says:

Lol, Pat loves to wind them up. Cue the gooners over here now…

However, I do feel that Arsenal will win their first trophy in 6 seasons. The League cup.

  8. devil without a cause says:

m hoping birmingham do them up………..4 good.

  9. Gooner77 says:

Evra’s a windup merchant, everyone knows that and I for one don’t dislike him. We all know what’s been going on at Arsenal and many of the fans have been frustrated. Am I confident about beating you lot on Monday night? With the comedy show we have playing at the back, no fucking chance!!!
If you want an insight into a negative Arsenal fan’s thinking look no further than this, the author predicts a 3-0 win to you lot

Ha ha United fans. You stand a chance of thumping us on monday if Wenger fucks up the plot gain.Arsenal dont need to attack at OT. We shall sit behind and wait on counter attacks instead. Otherwise if we open up the game we in one way or the other loose. Wenger will pack the midfield cause even a point is good enough. I just hope Roonie isnt fired up for the game. Never theless we shall pack the bus and who knows we can snatch a winner on counterattacks since we are the underdogs.

  11. Costas says:

    @devil without a cause

Maybe. I think it depends on them and what side they put out there. But as someone mentioned above, Pat better have his head in the game this Monday. Because truth be told, he hasn’t backed up most of his talking on the pitch this season. And he has Nasri to deal with.

Anyway, Fergie said that he is confident Rio, Scholes and Evra will make it.

  12. Anon says:

Arsenal fan here. Totally agree. Actually there are very many other Arsenal fans that would incline to agree with you. For some reason Wenger doesn’t like spending money and this is evident on the pitch. I’m still hoping for a draw though ;)

  13. rat1p says:

Honest opinion from a gooner like that, lets crush them!

  14. Singh says:

I think Evra forgets to mention why Arsenal may seem like an academy. It’s due to finance, brother. I bet a whole chunk of United supporters would rather be in Arsenal’s financial situation than in £716M (i think) debt. The United palyers probably don’t give a shit, but we supporters do.

These past 5 years have been a building process. Arsenal have been unlucky in certain competitions where they’ve fallen at the last hurdle, but they have remained incredibly consistent in that they have been at the top end of the premiere league, and the very latter stages of the champions league. Trophys will come inevitabley. It takes a true fan to see past the present day. The futures bright.. the future’s Arsenal.

  15. pantsR2long says:

In all honesty Man United are better than us, not man for man but because of your winning mentality. You guys know what it takes to win the big games and until our boys learn to do the same I don’t think we’ll be winning any major trophies. Let’s hope we show we’ve learnt enough to beat you guys this Monday.

    Come on Arsenal!!!

  16. devil without a cause says:

mid table clubs going that far in any cup would play a strong team……….its their only chance of getting a silverware………..it would be a good match……….
and i would be rooting them to come up trumps………….

  17. mattbw7 says:

Oh Gooner77 I think you will find quite a lot of UTD fans see you as the bigger threat, I don’t pay much heed to what any players say before a game its only a paid for soundbite so the papers can sell copy.

Monday night will be a fantastic game due to the philosophies of both managers, hang to your hats!

  18. noorgiggs says:

What pat is saying is actually a fact. They play some good football but haven’t won a trophy for 5 years though.

Pat hates Arsenal so not really surprised to see these comments. He used to call them children and they went on em trying to get em injuried before the CL final in 08.

    Must win on monday PAT

  19. PG says:

Evra is a Domenech sycophant and so dislikes Arsene and Arsenal. Good luck to him on the pitch…Nasri is in the form of his life and if Cesc plays, I predict an Arsenal win otherwise a nervy draw.

  20. mattbw7 says:

    PG says:
    Evra is a Domenech sycophant
Can you explain that cos it makes no sense at all to me

  21. Barndoor Bendtner says:

Good to see (fairly) intelligent comments here for a change.
The Gunners usually have a good game at the Theatre of Dweebs, so I think it will be close.
If Arshavin turns up and the defence dont shoot themsleves in the foot I can see us getting a result, but probably a draw.
I’m just enjoying watching Chealski implode, which I think we can all relate to. Why do pundits insist on calling the league a done deal after 6 games every season? The West London Mafia were cast iron favourites from the off and now look at them. Lets all laugh at the Chavs!!

  22. Costas says:

Makes no sense to me either Matt. Holding a revolt against a manager and being a sycophant are two entirely different teams.

Evra doesn’t like Arsenal, but sometimes reading between the lines can be a good thing. When he said that it was men against boys, that was the truth. Arsenal players prefered to lash out against him, but when we went back to the Emirates last January, it was exactly the same story.

Anyway, I’ll repeat that Pat has to also take a look at his own form going into this Monday.

  23. Costas says:

    @Barndoor Bendtner

They beat Wigan and West Brom 6-0. Surely that’s championship material? Who cares if they had 36 games left?

  24. AlphaRS says:

Evra is a proper wind up merchant! Ha.
But what he is saying is probably what most Gooners fans have been thinking for a while now. It’s all well and good playing pretty football but if there is unlikely to be a trophy at the end of it what’s the point of it all.
This particularly stood out when Arsenal drew 2-2 at home to Barcelona. Then they went to the Nou Camp and went 1-0 up but didn’t change the way they play. They still wanted to play pretty football instead of playing alittle more cautiously. I don’t understand why Wenger is so entrenched in to playing pretty football instead of playing winning football when required. Even if it did mean going alittle defensive.

  25. mattbw7 says:

Ok Ill spell it out for you PG, a sycophant is slavish follower of a person who seeks favour by appeasing and gratifying said person, now seeing as Evra had the French captaincy taken off him and was banned for a few games for having a central role in the World Cup revolt in the French camp, I think that shows he is anything but sycophantic when it comes to Dominech

  26. 7seagulls says:

Its refreshing to have a game where the rivalry verges on respect rather than hatred, Evra’s just being WUM. As much as we don’t like it, Arsenal play the best football in the league and I for one would love to watch it week in week out. As much as Gooners don’t like it, we play some damn good football at times but we know how to get the job done when playing pretty isn’t working. I think I prefer the bursting trophy cabinet though!
I reckon Arsenal might be in it for the long haul this time, such is their attacking prowess with Chamakh, RVP, Nasir, Walcott and Fabregas, and they seem to have got the best out of Song/Denilson this year too. Luckily for us, their current CB pairing is woeful, and neither Flappyhandski nor Almunia would fill that shaky back 4 with confidence. I predict 3-1 United, hopefully with another Berba hat trick

  27. P says:

    Pat for president whoop whoop.
    Love this guy :)

  28. mara says:

Look, they play really nice, but we will get them by power. With lot of pressure on the players, they will loose the ball, and that s it.

  29. Giles Oakley says:

Arsenal may play ‘pretty football’ but they are also quite cynical. Most years they have a poor disciplinary record, including one of the highest number of fouls in the Champions Lge this season. I think Evra is trying to put pressure on the Gooners, which is fair enough, but his own form has been patchy so I too hope his words don’t backfire. At least he likes to get forward which I like to see. United are top scorers in the Premiership, with only minimal help from Rooney, so we should have nothing to fear, especially as Rooney is regaining form and fitness.

  30. Le Gooner says:

I dont know why so many fans are offended by this. The truth hurts i guess..

  31. kanchelskis says:

Evra vs Nasri will be the key battle in this game.

If Evra can keep him quiet, then the game’s ours to win. If he gets toasted by him in the first few minutes, we could be in for a long evening.

One thing I would say though… Nasri likes to step inside off the right, even though he’s right-footed. Evra always seems more comfortable when defenders step inside. It’s when they try to get outside of him to the byline that he struggles, so hopefully Nasri’s style is a little more suited to Evra. Plus, he’ll be able to call on assistance, presumably from Fletch, to keep him quiet if he does come inside.

  32. Le Gooner says:

Our defence, bar Sagna, is a bit of a joke. Rooney and Berbatov will rip us apart.

  33. Costas says:

    @Le Gooner

United’s midfield isn’t exactly dominating games either though. My guess is that it could be a sloppy and pretty open affair.

  34. Gooner77 says:

    @7seagulls

The best football isn’t always the most entertaining, the best football is a combination of both and that was represented in Wengers title winning sides (and of course countless Manchester United teams). I have no problem with our attacking play, it just annoys me intensely that given all our great play going forward we shoot ourselves in the foot in every match. The Partizan game is evidence of this, here we have a team that didn’t get one point in the CL group games and managed only two goals both of which were scored against us!!! At the moment our defense resembles a mixture of Newcastle and Liverpool in the 90s, in fact if you were compare our current team to anyone it would be Newcastle under Kevin Keegan.

    @GillesOakley
I don’t think we’re any more cynical than any other side to be fair. Some of our teams in the past were more cynical but like I said every team has this in them. Are you telling me that Manchester United are not?

  35. doncobaino says:

What Pat is saying is right on the money, I mean if United had gone five years without a trophy they would be slaughtered, the real issue is why he needs to come out and do Wenger’s team talk for him…

  36. JayDee says:

At least its a little refreshing that Arsenal fan’s dont spew venom when on a rival’s blog, can’t say as much about the Chelsea or city lot.

  37. Gooner77 says:

    @Kanchelskis

The other possibility is that we play Nasri in the middle in place of Fabregas, he’s pretty effective there.
I have a feeling that this will be the game that Rooney re-establishes himself, he has a great history against us :(
Put it this way, for us to win this game we will have to play in a way that we haven’t been able to so far this season and for several seasons now. i.e if we take the lead have the ability to defend it!! Either that or you lot will have to play very badly.

  38. kanchelskis says:

    Gooner77

Yout think he might do that? I would have thought Wilshere would replace Cesc, with Nasri staying wide right, where he’s been getting great results this season. But then I’m not an Arsenal fan, so what do I know!?

Yeh, Rooney looked pretty sharp against Valencia, and was unlucky not to score a cracker. I think he might just relish coming up against your defence. I think he’ll be leading the line on his own as well, which always seems to galvanise him.

  39. Gooner77 says:

    @doncobaino

The reality is, rightly or wrongly, that the board will back Wenger as he hasn’t demanded huge money for transfers, has moved us into a new stadium whilst remaining relatively competitive, kept us in the Champions league and kept bums on seats as well as developing players (Adebayor, Toure, Fabregas?) that can be sold for massive profit. This isn’t an excuse, it’s the reality. Many Arsenal fans are fed up with this, whether he still the right man for the job remains to be seen but if he was to be replaced we’d need to be very careful who we bring in.

  40. Gooner77 says:

    @kanchelskis

Depends how kamikazee Wenger is feeling, he might play Wilshire and Nasri with Song in the middle and stick Walcott out on the wing. I’d quite like to see Nasri operate from the middle to be honest but then again Walcott can’t really be trusted…

  41. Costas says:

Rooney has 6 goals against Arsenal for United, but he hasn’t scored from open play in close to 9 months. As kanchelskis said, I think this might be the time for him to lead the line again. Which could mean Berbatov on the bench.

  42. kanchelskis says:

    Costas,

Yeh, I can’t see Fergie exposing our midfield by playing only 2 there – they’ll get overrun, and it has to be Berba that gives way after his missed chances against Valencia.

    I think:

    VDS

    Rafael
    Vidic
    Ferdinand (hopefully; if not Smalling)
    Evra

    Park
    Fletcher
    Anderson
    Scholes (hopefully; if not Carrick)
    Nani

    Rooney

  43. doncobaino says:

    @Gooner
I don’t think sacking Wenger would be the answer, just look at Newcastle- get’s you no-where. But I think the point should be that United get slaughtered after their 29 unbeaten run comes to an end. Imagine five years without a trophy!

    Evra should keep quiet.

  44. superguns says:

Thanks Evra for our post match talk just post this on all the walls in the dressing room, i have a big feeling Evra will be eating his words, we might have a poor defence but in RVP, Chamack, Arshavin,Nasri, walcott, cesc, rosicky, wiltshire they can score at any time and the way we have been playing away from home says it all.Plus they out played you at OT last time round.

  45. Gooner77 says:

    @doncobaino

I’m not saying that sacking him would be my preference I’m just trying to give you a general overview of Arsenal fans as a whole at the moment and maybe my comparison to Newcastle was a little harsh as they fell apart pretty quickly, Wenger has actually built something pretty solid (with the exception of our defence ;) ) at Arsenal

  46. Costas says:

Darth Scholes has been passed fit, so you can expect the darkness to rear its ugly head this Monday. ;)

  47. jellybean says:

awww jesus! all the negative Arsenal fans are making me nervous and i’m thinking they’ll get revenge for us killing their unbeaten run.

  48. CedarsDevil says:

    Costas

Nicely chosen words mate re Darth Scholes! lol

I hope he plays and I think we will play with a 451 or 433 (works either way really) not sure if we will only play with Rooney up front? Hope we play Berba with Rooney on the left in a 433….

  49. ... says:

I think the Arsenal fans are underestimating their team. They’ve probably got the best away record in the league and of course, Nasri is on fire atm., Arshavin selects the games he wants to play well in, but we will have problems if he chooses Monday night, Van Persie is still a dangerous striker even if he is trying to regain fitness. I’ve seen a fair amount of Arsenal play this season and they can be incredibly frustrating to watch, even as a United fan.

Hoping for a cracker (excuse the xmas pun) of a game.

  50. Gooner77 says:

    @…Says

    You say:

‘I’ve seen a fair amount of Arsenal play this season and they can be incredibly frustrating to watch, even as a United fan.’

Exactly my friend!!! Even watching what should of been tow fairly routine home games this week against Fulham and Partizan there was still edge of the seat nerviness, I don’t actually know how Wenger copes with it. The Spurs game was the ultimate insult so far this season.
As for the title my money is actually on you lot and has been for sometime, as usual people have been writing you off saying your a shadow of your former selves but (to borrow a shitty footballing cliche) you have a solid foundation on which to build on. To not have lost yet is pretty impressive, I’m also expecting the Spurs Chelsea game to be a cracker, should be a good weekend of football.

  51. mattbw7 says:

    superguns says:
Thanks Evra for our post match talk just post this on all the walls in the dressing room, i have a big feeling Evra will be eating his words, we might have a poor defence but in RVP, Chamack, Arshavin,Nasri, walcott, cesc, rosicky, wiltshire they can score at any time and the way we have been playing away from home says it all.Plus they out played you at OT last time round.

Yawn as if putting that in the dressing room will fire up arsenal.

Notice you say away cos your home record this season aint worth shouting about and oh how you outplayed us last time, I rather think you at least deserved a draw but football doesn’t always deliver the right result but to say you out played is the kind of thing you lot have been saying for the last 5 trophyless years.

  52. mattbw7 says:

Gooner77, I think I can see some maturity developing in the Arsenal side this season and the title is to close to call, it seems to me the one thing all our teams are lacking is that natural leader, Terry has lost his aura at Chelsea and since you lost Viera and we lost Keane neither have had that player that just by thier presence on the pitch transforms the attitude of the players and I dont know if that type of player exists anymore.

  53. willierednut says:

Rent a quote Evra. I wish players would do their talking on the pitch, and not in the media. United might be at home, but this is a 50/50 game imo. The Arseholes are the one team, that comes to OT and believe they can out play United. Our formation will be interesting, will SAF go 442, or settle on a 451? I haven’t got a scooby doo, but it should be an enthralling game as always.

  54. Jemmie says:

@mattbw7: Carles Puyol is close to Keane & Vieira, imo.

  55. mattbw7 says:

Agree with that Willie, Arshavin was the best player on the park last year at OT and no matter what you think of the Arse as a club you gotta give Wenger credit for coming up and playing

  56. United1990 says:

    Ahem.. That’s Evra speakin.. LOL

  57. aig alex is god says:

too confident paddy, eh. Rather improve your form. You have been poor this season,. Would rather prefer Fabio to start on Monday.

  58. mattbw7 says:

    Jemmie says:
@mattbw7: Carles Puyol is close to Keane & Vieira, imo

Not a chance mate, he may look good in the barca team but imo would never be in the same class as K & V. well maybe Viera but not Keano until I see some one pull off what keane did against Juve all those years ago then none will compare.

  59. wayne says:

evra been winding up aresnal for years theres no previous history between him and wenger is there?,don’t remember him winding up any other team as much.
i’d be shocked if berba and rooney don’t start sir alex has been talking berba up all week which would make it hard to leave him out.unless something drastic happens through the course of the season, the rooney/berba partnership is going to be utds preferred starting lineup.for me i prefer the more open games attacking minded play and when you have two world class strikers the team should use them

  60. PG says:

He got his captaincy for his sycophancy at the beginning of the world cup when he took over from Henry He did lead the revolt afterwards – but that doesnt change how he got there in the first place. Better men than him have captained the French side.

I dont mind his comments about Arsenal as a training club as much as his assertion that we wont be there in 10 years time. Looking at current finances, Man Utd should be more worried about existence than Arsenal. Plain stupid comments and one I hope that backfires on him badly on Monday.

  61. PG says:

People still talk about the Hungarian team led by Puskas which won fuck all at world stage or the Dutch team from the 70s who failed to win a trophy.

So Mr. Evra, you are plain wrong.

  62. willierednut says:

I thought Evra took over the captaincy from Gallas?

  63. aig alex is god says:

Arsenal will rip us apart if we start with 2 up front. Carrick gives the ball away and Fletcher is out of form. Sure Fergie will play a 4-5-1 with Rooney on his own up front. Arsenal are sure to start with just one up front so to win the midfield battle we have to start with a 4-5-1

  64. mattbw7 says:

    PG says:
He got his captaincy for his sycophancy at the beginning of the world cup when he took over from Henry He did lead the revolt afterwards – but that doesnt change how he got there in the first place. Better men than him have captained the French side.

Yeah ok, carry on in that fantasy world you have no evidence for it and who gives a fuck about whether better men have captained the french side, jeez better men have captained England than Terry, Rio or Gerrard and I can hardly raise any interest in that, what a sad little tosspot you are for bringing this into the debate, must be a WUM.

  65. ancha says:

nice banter going on bw both the fans…

i just feel monday is too far….cant the match be preponed to saturday night?!!

  66. willierednut says:

People can talk about the Holland team all they want, but they won nowt. Yes, they played great football, but it didn’t produce a trophy. I think the Ajax team in the 70′s, should be lauded more, they actually achieved great things and to this day, are one of the best club sides we’ve ever seen.

  67. mattbw7 says:

    PG says:
People still talk about the Hungarian team led by Puskas which won fuck all at world stage or the Dutch team from the 70s who failed to win a trophy.

PG will you fuck off, people remember the hungary team cos they where reckoned to be a bunch of no marks bar Puskas and what did they do, tear a strip off the world champions err who was that now, oh yes ENGLAND and lets face it the dutch team where robbed against the Krauts.

Where have arse been robbed, oh yeah the CL final where Henry bleated about those biggers boys at Barca bullying him!!!

  70. willierednut says:

I still think It’s funny, when pundits say Arsenal are the only team that comes close to Barcelona. It didn’t seem that way last season in the two legs in champions league. Fabregas was in the stand for the second leg, and he saw for himself, the gulf in class between the 2 teams. That’s probably why he wants out, it finally dawned on him, eh?

  71. wayne says:

@aig it will be interesting to see just don’t see sir alex leaving berba out,all week sir alex has been saying berba is playing magnificent football and proving all his critics wrong, then he’s going to drop him?

  72. mattbw7 says:

Fabregas wouldn’t be a regular starter for Barca just a squad player, why do you think he stayed put, better a big fish in a little pond it seems.

  73. hammons says:

Come on, Scott, you know that Sir Alex does not want any of this ridiculous banter anymore.

Arsenal Preview: Gunner Them Down Again ….

    http://www.theunitedreligion.com/2010/12/arsenal-preview-gunner-them-down-again.html

  74. Costas says:

He got the captaincy for his sycophancy? Any proof about that? Where you in the room when it happened? Sour grapes, much?

So he was a Domenech sycophant and Domenech rewarded him by giving him the captaincy. Learn what sycophant means ffs.

  75. Costas says:

    *were*

  76. ancha says:

    @costas

there is no point in debating with an idiot! give up!

  77. willierednut says:

Costas – Now now mate, you’ll scare him off, with facts.

  78. ancha says:

will anderson keep up his performance levels on monday?!!…i hope so…and i think there lies the key to our play…i dont want him struck up marking some arsehole(eg. nasri or arshavin) out of the game instead he has to be given free role..and let fletch and whoever is the other mid sit deep and cover the defense

  79. daz says:

Gooner here. Looking forward to the game. Despite all the bravado being thrown around, I think it could be a lot closer than people think. People expected City to tear Arsenal a new one, and Arsenal roundly thumped them. Sure the Arsenal defence is not great, but then again, United haven’t exactly being blowing teams away despite managing to not lose. I think the key will be Rooney’s form, like Drogba, he seems to always play brilliant against Arsenal.

  80. Costas says:

    @ancha

Lol, you are right. I guess Domenech was so naive to make the an ass kisser France captain. And then the same ass kisser immediately stabbed him in the back the minute a fellow team mate got sent home.. It had nothing to do with the fact that Evra was one of the most decorated players in that team…

  81. wayne says:

whoever calls evra a asskisser has no clue about the man hes one of the most outspoken independent players out there

  82. willierednut says:

What bravado? It’ll be a close game, with United hopefully nicking it.

  83. Costas says:

    @willie

Not facts, just common logic, lol.

  84. David says:

Patrice Evra is stupid attention seeker with nothing to say. His mindless annual report might contain some truth but it’s even more transparent and irrelevent than usual seeing as Man U, similair to us won nothing of note last season.

Anyway on to the game. You lot shouldn’t be worried. I know we were pretty good at OT last year (I think we had the game on a silver platter) but we won’t perform to even near that level this time around as it was mostly down to how well Vermaelen and Gallas played. In fact I can definitively say you’ll be facing a worse team as our new centre backs are completely second rate and its affected the whole dynamic – not just the backline. Their inability to deal with any half decent opposition decisively has stopped us from being able to put sustained pressure on teams anymore (half defeating the purpose of a possesion game), and it means we are much easier to strech, bringing our chronic lack of pace in midfield to the fore. Newcastle, Fulham and West Brom have already been able to do control games against us in this manner, and if any team is built to exploit these deficiencies it’s you guys. I know we will most likely play ok like and the game will be in the balance, but unlike normal I’m not ruling out the possibility of you thrashing us.

I will still enjoy the massively regardless. There is always the off chance Nasri or Arshavin will pull something out of the bag, and more than anything facing you guys in a top of the table clash makes me feel very nostalgic!

  85. Costas says:

    @daz

It will be close since your lot are playing away from home. ;)

    @ancha

Yeah Ando could be the key in this game. Is it too much to expect of him to play well for a 4th game in a row though? The midfield area is out biggest question mark but if Ando and Fletch perform well, it will just about guarantee that we will control proceedings.

  86. wayne says:

utd are normally always on against the gunners although the press always give utd a hard time.imo the gunners haven’t looked very good in alot of games this year think utd win this one easy

  87. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Nice on Evra! I’m looking forward to this game as it shall be my first since the dippers game.not the same intensity as a few years back but a couple of posts on here have me feeling almost the same as back then. Roll on Monday!!!

  88. mattbw7 says:

I know this shouldnt be a problem but lets make sure OT is bouncing and noisy as fuck

  89. willierednut says:

PG – Next time bring a dictionary mate. If ya don’t know what that is, It’s a book that details what words mean. Doughnut!

  90. mattbw7 says:

Yeah PG try looking up nonsensical to start with.

  91. fergie is the boss says:

do I wish evra kept quiet about arsenal yes, united have not played well so we do not want these girls getting their feelings hurt that will be determined to stop united. Is it a fact what evra has said yes, they are a poor mans barcelona who think they are the barcelona of england when they cannot even domminate the premiership. Like what rooney said about liverpool back in march 2009 it could come back to not only bite evra on the ass but bite united really hard

  92. fergie is the boss says:

PG – stick to WUM comments on the bbc and the sun

  93. fergie is the boss says:

united players should just stick to what has always brought them to the dance, that seperates us from the also rans like arsenal chelsea liverpool shitty spurs, we do our talking on the pitch not do a shitty or the london clubs

  94. ancha says:

i dont mind players..winding up the opposition a little bit with a comment or two…so thats end off for me regarding evra’s comments

    @costas

seeing the way fletch has performed this season…scholes and ando are our only hope in linking the play between the two ends..as scholes(&carrick too) sits too deep…it will make us one dimensional as we have been through out the season….and having ando gives us the other dimension..that drive from midfield…right now no body apart from him in the midfield has the confidence to carry the ball forward bar scholes..for him its the problem of pace not confidence….so i will be more confident of us winning if i see ando on the teamsheet…
apart from ando…i think the front three axis of nani, rooney, berbatov…shouldnt be disturbed…we can always play park on the left…he can cover midfield numbers while defending…

  95. willierednut says:

David – Arsenal haven’t won anything of note for 5 years now mate.

  96. smartalex says:

    @willierednut

Your doughnut argument has a hole in it. It’s half-baked, possibly glazered.

  97. wayne says:

@ancha think park has to play has really come into his own last month,i agree keeping nani, berba and rooney together so that leaves ando, carrick, scholes, giggs and fletch for 2 places

  98. willierednut says:

    smartalex – Chocolate with sprinkles?

  99. Aig alex is god says:

    David

if arsenal get going, we could get a pasting too. Never know

  100. King Eric says:

Jemmie – Ha. That ponce Puyol isn’t fit to lace Keano’s fucking boots.

  101. King Eric says:

prefer Fabio over Evra? What the fuck? Fabio looked lost the other night. The last few games Evra looks decent.

  102. King Eric says:

aig – Fuck sake. Arsenal will rip us apart if we play 2 in midfield? Will they fuck. Last time I saw you comment you had us down to lose 2-0 at Ibrox. Change the record man.

  103. pmcelevey1 says:

    @ king eric

have to agree mate, fabio’s fitness looked shocking in the closing stages against valencia. He was dead on his feet. Evra’s stamina is unreal in comparison. But Fabio is young, plenty of time for him

  104. Aig alex is god says:

To be fair Arsenal did win the emirates cup quite a few times

  105. Debred says:

I hope Evra doesn’t have to eat his words…lets do it on the pitch mate…

  106. King Eric says:

It just annoys me. Why would Arsenal tear us apart at fucking home? Remember after the Leeds defeat and the trip to the Emirates last season? Everyone thouight we would get hammered but as we all know it didn’t work out like that did it?

  107. Ash says:

I dont think evra has said anything wrong regarding arsenal. But he was wrong when he said that chelsea are better than arsenal.I think arsenal are far far better than chelski only thing arsenal lack is temperament. They mat have classy players but they dont have strong mind or heart like united.I am predicting a win for us.

  108. Ash says:

    @aig
Dude why are you so negative .You always underestimate our side which is not right. If you think arsenal or chelski are stronger than us then you must be mad.

  109. smartalex says:

Evra spoke too soon on a few occasions last season.
This is the first time this season that he has been as outspoken about the opposition.
(He did weigh in to the Rooney press release.)
I reckon he’s allergic to Arsenic.

  110. DAVE RED says:

Check the record books – everything Pat has said is the truth, they were lucky to beat us in
Cardiff as well, we played them off the pitch that day.

They do play good football, but so do we, but we also know how to win ‘ugly’ thats the point hes making.

  111. Jig3000 says:

Big question for Monday: Who’s going to drop to the bench, Berb or Rooney? (assuming a 3-man midfield)

Traditionally it would have been Rooney, no questions, but dropping Berb after his goal-glut against Blackburn would go against current form (goal-scoring form at least). Rooney was beginning to look sharp for me against Valencia, and I’d have him ahead of Berb no problem, but it’s an interesting question.

Is there a possibility of dropping Rooney to the left-wing, like the season before last? Rooney/Berb/Nani as an attacking three? Personally I’d like to see Rooney dropped deeper than Berb, I think he needs to be involved constantly.

And how is the midfield going to take shape – from Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Anderson?

My preference, as though it matters:

    VDS

    Rafael / Rio / Vidic / Evra

    Fletch / Scholes / Anderson

    Nani / Rooney

    Blerb

    - I think we’ll see Park instead of Berbatov in a 5-man midfield with £ooney up front.

  112. anderson08 says:

L’Arse fans, please get the fuck out of here.
    EVRA RULES!

  113. ancha says:

@all who are concerned about AIG’s posts

its nothing new…dont start worrying now….he has been like that from the day he started posting here…
    @aig
no offense…i can understand your sentiment of being negative so that it pays off later…the only thing i hate about your postings is when you talk about barca…

  114. ancha says:

    @king eric

from last few games, even i think that evra looked good..but not yet reached the level he used to perform

  115. ancha says:

    @jig3000

thats a good prediction regarding lineup..mine would be

    vds

    rafeal rio vida evra
    scholes
    fletch anderson
    nani rooney
    berba

that space behind berba…can be used by free roaming attack of nani/anderson/rooney

  116. wayne says:

in the last month or so park has been utds most consistent player this is the best he’s ever played for us,with his work ethic and ability to score big goals in big games no way sir alex will leave him out i’d bet any money berba, rooney, nani up front if ando starts, that leaves flecth, scholes and carrick for one spot

  117. RedMancundonian says:

    @David

Correction, Evra is the best left-back in the world.

And don’t you dare refer to us as Man # ( you know what I’m implying to, don’t be stupid) ever again. Never ever again. Or you’ll kiss your mom goodbye for the last time.

With that being said, let’s win the league this season, we were robbed last year but no-way-Jose in this term, it’s ours to win it.

    COME ON MANCHESTER UNITED !!!!!!

  118. denton davey says:

Gooner77 @ 9:25: “Am I confident about beating you lot on Monday night? With the comedy show we have playing at the back, no fucking chance!!!”

You could have taken those words from my mouth. Any team – any team ! – has a “puncher’s chance” in a battle-of-the-heavyweights but “comedy show…playing at the back” is a perfect description of TheArse’s central defence. Missing Gallas AND Vermaelen – and replacing them with Koscielny and Squillaci/Djourou is not really good enough.

  119. Jig3000 says:

Ancha: Same as my preference then, would be nice to see.

Wayne: You reckon he’ll go 4 / 4 / 2 ? Think everyone’s expecting him to play a five-man midfield because Arsenal will too, but you never know. I reckon it’s unlikely as we haven’t the personnel for a 2-man central midfield against strong opposition; if Fletch was playing like last season we could stick him there with Ando and we’d be good, but I can’t see any 2-man combo working on current form.

  120. willierednut says:

One snood, doesn’t make a summer.

  121. dannysoya says:

Evra better play well and he better make sure that we win or else evra will be ripped to shreds in the media. i am not really afraid of any team in the league EXCEPT ARSENAL. why? cuz they know how to play football and keep the ball. the only thing missing is their defence and i believe that is where we always take advantage of them. soak up the pressure and counter attack. i just hope we win this game. way too important to lose.

  122. fergie is the boss says:

aig – you are kidding right. The way they have been playing against teams in europe away from home, and against spurs they defend like that they will conciede a phew goals. We never saw united build up steam after the victory over blackburn, the way anderson has been playing he will give no space to arsenal and if fletcher plays that is double the pressure.

united should leave scholes out and play this 11 that many have said
    VDS
    rafeal ferdinand vidic evra
    carrick fletcher anderson
    rooney berbatov nani

  123. David says:

We play a as 4-5-1 when attacking and a 4-2-4 when defending. Lets see how Alex counters that!

  124. Passe says:

Seriously, It’s Rafael, not rafeal. It sound fucking retarded and it isn’t his name. Please don’t call him Rafeal.

  125. willierednut says:

We countered it last season, when we done the double over yous.

  126. SirAlex'sSon says:

I’ve learnt not to do predictions in matches of this magnitude. Tho’ i trust what the team is capable of and hope they come up top on monday and also rundown Le’ASS.

  127. Dr.Hannibal says:

any one forgot pizza gate !! i f##kn hate arsenal!

  128. wayne says:

@jig3000 yes mate I think the gunners are suspect and utd will go at them

  129. willierednut says:

David – Seriously mate, It’ll be a close run thing and whoever defends the best, could be enough for the win. I’ve got respect for Wenger and Arsenal, but yous can be a sanctimonious bunch sometimes.

  130. SirAlex'sSon says:

On Paddy’s comments, i have problems with them as long as he keeps their ‘French Messi’ quiet.

  131. NotoriousRedDevil says:

The thing that lets l’arse down is their goalkeepers. I know we’ve had some dodgy ones over the years but their keepers are utter shite and its the main reason IMO that they’ve won fuck all for 5 and half years. So with all the skill, flair Van Persie, Nasri and Arshavin have we pound there goal with a few shots there’s a good chance there will be an error on their part. We’ll play Rooney, Berbatov and Nani but I think we may see Rooney out on the left in a more 4-5-1. Scholes, Anderson and Fletcher will play midfield. Rest of the team picks itself if fully fit.

  132. willierednut says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OQT1psCoAc

    What scared Mick Mccarthy? lol

  133. mj says:

I love how people)namely Arsenal fans) insinuate we built our success on debt. what a load of rubbish. We are only deep into debt because of the Glazers takeover, we didnt spend our way into debt. I cant stand when people make that lazy point.

  134. Scott the Red says:

Paul H – Whether I start the Wenger is a paedo chant or whether I’ve never sung it in my life is totally irrelevant.

This isn’t about ranking sick chants. You’ve clearly missed the point.

If Ferguson was criticising United fans for singing about Hillsborough, then it would make sense.

Munich actually happened. Wenger isn’t actually a paedophile. Not a difficult concept.

  135. Zibbie says:

In the US in the 60′s there was a tv show Goomer Pyle USMC and he was an idiot and a dufuss. On some other threads the delusional Gunner fans became Goomers, Pile of shit. So to all Goomers FUCK OFF AND GLORY GLORY MAN UTD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU HAVE WONDERED 5 OF 40 YEARS IN A TROPHY- LESS EXISTENTS IN THE DESERT OF BIG TIME FOOTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Does the Carlin Cup count as a big trophy?) The FA, BEPL and the CL count in this tally.
For decent gunner fans, like the attacking footy you play bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!
    GO ROONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  136. Bebeto says:

5 years? It’s getting embarrassing. Luckily for them, we already have more pitiful opponents who we’re accustomed to reminding about their prolonged barren period.

  137. red_october says:

Hopefully we win this game and not lose 13-0, lol. Each game is important to us. Go United!

  138. King Eric says:

Its ok Arsenal keeping the ball and making little pretty patterns. You actually have to have a strike on goal though to win games. Summat the Arsenal don’t seem to do.

  139. RedScot says:

What do Arsenal fans do after Arsenal win the Champions league?

    They put away their playstations!!!!!!

Arsenal’s silverware in the last 24 years !!!!!
    3 EPL titles.
    4 FA cups.
    4 Charity shields………………….in 24 years.
During which time they have sacked and hired 7 managers.

During the 24 years the “great” has been in his post.
    11 EPL titles.
    5 FA cups.
    4 League cups.
    9 Charity shields.
    2**** UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUES.
    1 UEFA Cup winners cup.
    1 UEFA Super cup.
    1 inter Continental cup.
    1 FIFA Club world cup.
You cant buy history and class.
    We are United.

  140. RedScot says:

There are clearly a couple of googlers in my post their, see if our dear Arsenal friends( can pick them out) come back and tell US we are window lickers! lol.

  141. King Eric says:

Redscot. Evening mate. Spot on. It annoys me when pundits say united and arsenal have dominated the premier league since its inception. I don’t think so. Eleven titles to three. Total united domination. Its a staggering record by fergie.

  142. RedScot says:

@ king Eric, hi mate, yes we can agree on this topic( Glazer aside). it is a staggering record bye the Govan based whisky drinker! He is my hero, no joking.
Arsenal have only scored 8 goals in 18 premier league games at Old trafford no more than one in a single game.
United have collected most points on their own patch of any team in the premier league this season, 22! Enjoy the match King Eric, and dont jump on Nani when he scores the winner. lol
I was called a wee window licker last night on here , still waiting for a response from the Gooner that called me that!
More in my locker than you can imagine.
Cmon United. Sit down you pedophile, ohh the days of noise passion and agression on the terraces. Now its all corporates and prawn sandwiches.

  143. Busby_Way says:

Love it Evra! He should have added “tell your groupie Piers Morgan that he can fuck off too!”

  144. dannysoya says:

i don’t know why people are flipping out over nothing. IT’S THE DAMN TRUTH!! ARSENAL SUCKS!!!

@Busby_Way ohh don’t even get me started about that stupid fool piers morgan. you wonder how an idiot like that became a journalist.
