Manchester United have enjoyed a fantastic day of football today. We beat Burnley 2-0 to continue our unbeaten record and maintain our status as the best performing team in the league away from home. This was the second consecutive Premier League game where we’ve prevented the opposition from having a shot on target, despite putting out a makeshift back four. This was Eric Bailly’s seventh game of the month so far, playing 90 minutes of football, on average, every three days.

With Liverpool one of the teams keeping us out of the top four, we really could do with them dropping points, although a win for Crystal Palace was a big ask. Liverpool took the lead but then their former striker, Christian Benteke, scored twice to deny the scousers any points. This means we are now just just three points behind them with two games in hand.

Our next league game is against Manchester City at the Etihad on Thursday. If we win this game, we will leapfrog them in the table. We are currently one points behind them with the same games played and a goal difference worse by just two goals.

Victory is this game was aided by City’s disappointment at Wembley this afternoon. Having gone a goal ahead, they also went on to lose 2-1. David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho were taken off with injuries, although Pep Guardiola couldn’t give any information on whether they will be available for derby day or not.

The rest of the team had to endure half an hour of extra-time and will clearly be demoralised at knowing that their season will end without silverware.

With tough games ahead, we’re still not favourites to finish in the top four, but Sunday was certainly a great day for us.
