Favourite Ronaldo Goals: Part V

February 1st 2005 – Arsenal away

This was probably the last of the really meaty Arsenal game. We’d beaten them 2-0 at home and ended their 49 game unbeaten run. Our away trip to Highbury was supposed to be when they got their revenge.

It didn’t quite work out like that though, with United spanking the Goons, despite going down to ten men with over twenty minutes to play. Ronaldo scored our equalising goal for 2-2 before making it 3-2 four minutes later.

    KEANO!

One of our best performances in years.Ronaldo really did come of age here.

  2. Corea says:

i still can not find this game in the internet… the whole game..

  3. Zae says:

What a game it was, oh my god. The Pizzagate game at Old Trafford is more famous but I’d argue it was much nastier, full of ugly fouls. The way traitor Heinze owned Ljungberg throughout was brilliant, Keano gave a masterclass, a true captain’s display – probably because he was riled by Vieira. Rooney was outstanding and Ronaldo showed the first glimpses of what he will become: a lethal goalscorer.

They should have had a penalty when Silvestre tripped Pires but by then Pires shouldn’t have been on the pitch but in the showers for kicking out to Fletcher.

  4. Red Dave says:

i think i enjoyed the songs as much as i did watching that video

  7. Issy says:

As a gooner i am exstatic to see the back of Ronaldo. Hes an Electric player and i genuinly believe you guys are going to struggle without him. I know how sick you guysmust be feeling as we had the same after T left.

  8. Besher says:

    O’shea didnt believe he scored

  9. Eden_Hazard says:

    O’shea never believes he scores!

  10. theboogeyman says:

O’Shea thought he was Cantona for a moment there, the way he celebrated immediately after he scored. It was similar to the way King Eric celebrated after scoring that chip against Sunderland.

  11. Corea says:

Guys, does anyone have the entire game ?

  12. Drew Vader says:

One of my all time favorite matches…. After Ronaldo’s second goal put us ahead I punched the air in celebration so hard I hurt my shoulder….

  13. arsene wenger says:

i remember the secret gooner mikel ‘tweetie pie’ silvestre nutted freddie ljundberg in that game lol

  14. Gibbs says:

I can not believe that nobody mentions that Ronaldo promised to go nowhere… look at him now… I never liked him, but wtf! he lied to the supporters right in their face, that fucking twat! If he knew he was going to R.Mad he could have at least said no comment, the he at least would not lie. that stupid motherfucker…

Fuck Ronaldo, that stupid, arrognt twat!

  15. joero says:

O’shea is our best finisher, thats a fact, check the stats!

  16. Costas says:

The good thing is that Wigan can’t press the issue and ask for more. They want to sell Valencia now because next summer he can buy out his contract.

  17. RJ says:

“One such admirer is United’s local rivals Manchester City and it is thought negotiations to take Tevez across the city are already well under way. ”

Am I late on finding this out?

  18. King Eric says:

toby – I read the article. Have you seen some of the comments from so called United fans? Fuck off and support Madrid then you cunts.

  19. Costas says:

King Eric spoiled fans are a long term problem for the club. Personally, i remember the many raised United eyebrows when Teddy Sheringham came in the place of Cantona. United fans have to realise that this was the end of the road for the Unuted side that swept the honours between 06 and 09. Even if Ronaldo had stayed, who’s to say complacency wouldn’t have crept in the team? In Rome, it was as evident as Paris Hilton lack of underwear, that we have been figured out. We became too dependant on Ronaldo. We can’t find another Ronaldo, but what we can do is change our playing style. Someone said that we should strengthen our central midfield because that’s where every game is settled these days. And they could be right. Until Nani and Valencia become stronger, maybe 4-3-1-2 is the way to go. But after 3 years, nothing is certain anymore and that’s refreshing. I am curious to see what SAF is thinking about.

  20. Corea says:

Mates, i’m thinking how can SAF think of retirement these days ? ))
He has plenty to think about, he has to develop another team, he has a lot of thinking to do. Poor Fergie but this is his life. At 67 develop the new style and build a new team. Ouch!

    In SAF we trust!

  21. Costas says:

That’s why we are blessed to have him Corea. As he has said,he will feel old the minute he retires.

For those wondering what Blatter’s reaction was going to be,here:

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=654478&&cc=5739

He can’t hide his happiness can he? Pathetic old bastard.

  22. King Eric says:

Costas – The man is a fucking disgrace. Agree with your earlier post as well, too many spoilt fans. In my opinion it is exciting times ahead for United.

  23. fze123 says:

We already have a brill striker. This is a must watch; breathtaking skills/goals from berbatov…Sheer class. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CPFEqsP_sw&feature=related

  24. Kings says:

Apparantly Ronaldo has expressed his annoyance at doing a joint unveiling with Kaka, as he wants to do his own. A sign of things to come. I said to someone at work this morning that I have a feeling that Kaka and Ronaldo may not see eye to eye.

  25. Costas says:

Thanks Kings.Good to see that he remains humble. And in fairness,he should not take a backseat to Kaka.He didn’t get to where he is by not being confident.

  26. Red-Manc says:

    Costas -

“In Rome, it was as evident as Paris Hilton lack of underwear, that we have been figured out. ”

    quality mate hahah

  27. Dave Mack says:

Gibbs your not a United supporter for me. At United we’re bigger than that.

Ronaldo give us excitement, goals, trophies and 68m quid profit!!! He was fearless and brilliant. Let’s just say thanks for the memories and move on. Viva Ronaldo!

Just look out for Rooney and Berbatov next year. Plus the De Silva’s etc. in the years to come.

The King is dead …. Long live the King!

  28. kapti14 says:

just ignore him he is no longer man utd player.

he just likes to be centre of the world.

ignore him and let him be.

  29. kapti14 says:

i got a feeling wellbeck will have a big season next year.

never been more excited than now.

massive task for us to win the two biggies and if we do then man utd team will be special.

  30. kapti14 says:

come on lets get into opponents be it lincoln or barcelona get in their face

lets stiffle them so that they can only see darkness.

hell shud be united of manchester for opposition teams now.

  31. AlphaRS says:

How many more parts are we gonna have to Ronaldo Goals?

The guy is gone. Let it be.Brilliant player. See a later. Simple as.

Anyone would think we can’t let go and are in mourning or it or something.

  32. AlphaRS says:

    Costas

United may have been found out last season but I thought that is where a good tactician would have been able to change our style of play slightly.

Don’t fancy changing the team everytime we get foudn out. Just the tactics.

  33. Costas says:

Alpha you bring up a good point. I guess more than anything, Barca had figured us out because we played with the same system we did against Arsenal. All it took for Guardiola to mess us up was move Eto to the right and Messi to the center.

But i do think that the time had come for us to stop relying on Ronaldo so much.I am not saying that selling him was the answer to the problem, but something had to change in our build up play.

  34. King Eric says:

Is it true that the fascists have signed Villa now for £40 million?

  35. theboogeyman says:

@King Eric:Where did you see that?

In other news,Robinho wants Tevez at city…

  36. Costas says:

According to Spanish press,Villa is getting there.

  37. theboogeyman says:

No offence to Manuel Pellegrini/Florentino Perez, but aren’t defenders part of a team too??I mean,no point scoring 10 goals every match if your opponents can score 11…

  38. AlphaRS says:

Costas I agree that an over reliance on Ronaldo made us more predictable.
It was up to Fergie to change that but in the end he puts playing for Real above winning trophies.Fair enough. But he lied about staying. That I can not forgive.
I think we need a tactically strong number 2 for Fergie. Not saying Fergie is a poor tactician as his record suggests otherwise. Just think he would have been more successful in Europe if he had a better tactician by his side.

King Eric there is nothing on Sky Sports suggesting that has happened. Before we know it Real will have bought up all the talent.
We should forget about rake face as he is ridiculously overpriced and concentrate on bringing in Valencia and Benzema. Give Anderson the creative role in midfield.

    Onwards we go….

  39. Costas says:

Was he ever in our sights?Neither is Silva unfortunately. I am sensing that Fergie still believes he can keep Tevez. Now that we have a big budget,26 million for Tevez is a waste isn’t it?

Alpha,i agree about the tactician, but at the moment he has to figure out how he wants the team to play before bringing someone in.Maybe he expects Quieroz to get sacked by Portugal, before bringing him back. That could happen as early as September.

  40. AlphaRS says:

Costas I hope Quiroz does get sacked. But only cos I love United!

  41. theboogeyman says:

    Scott,post something!!

  42. AlphaRS says:

Yeah Scott! Not Ronaldo Goals Part VI though!

  43. Costas says:

Guys i think Scott might have taken the day or weekend off. United won’t have any news over the weekend anyway.I think after the Ronaldo saga is over,we will all need a break.Apart from SAF and Gill of course! They have the tough act of using 100 million properly.

  44. philcamera says:

    September 29th, 2008My Alarming Realisation…I Don’t Like Ronaldo
scott just been reading your old article from above date!!
it almost seems to have a prophetic ring to it now with what has happened this week . i felt the same this season but desperatley kept my feelings in check.
sad to say it but im glad hes gone and we can move on . but i know we are going to miss him and from history you learn , you never really know how much until they are not there anymore . Another great article Scott!! looking forward to some great reading next season keep up the good work.
    phil c

  45. Costas says:

I just read that article by Scott. It describes how a lot of fans felt this year. It was the first time i wasn’t celebrating United goals by jumping around the room. There were 2 instances that i felt disappointed with the OT crowd. The first one was when they welcomed Ronaldo back with open arms against Villarreal(I didn’t want them to boo, just be silent). The second was when they basically put Tevez over SAF against Arsenal. Now with those 2 seemingly in the way out, we have a chance to be come a family again.

I hear that Portsmouth are selling Glen Johnson to a club playing at the Champion’s League for a fee of 15-18 million. Could it be us? Arsenal and Liverpool wouldn’t give so much on a right back, Chelsea have Bosingwa and Man City play in the Champion’s League of losers.

  46. Corea says:

    @ Costas

    Brown, Rafael, Oshea ?
Honestly we don’t need him. Great player but don’t be too enthusiastic because it was only Andorra, mate.
Yes, would have liked him at the club but i prefer Brown and i think he deserves the place for the 3-4 upcoming seasons. I hope he stays healthy.
And i think (denton davey said about it) Rafael and Fabio might ne aиду to play some games in the midfield as well as Evra.
But i doubt SAF will take chances.

I’m becoming to be a little enthusiastic by the prospect of signing Alexis Sanches. Honestly i don’t know him but his age (20) and he would come relatively for cheap.
What about the Eto’o rumours ? I think it will end up by the player signing the contract extension.

  47. Corea says:

    Sanchez is not for sale.

    http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2009/06/13/Serie-A-Udinese-on-Sanchez-United-link/gnid-56865/

Yes, they all say like this. But it will be so difficult for us to sign a great prospect right now.
Everything has it’s prize and little clubs will do everything possible to raise the price. And you can understand all of this sincerely.
That’s why it’s better for us to develop the players like Rafael, Fabio, Wellbeck, Campbell, Macheda, Possbon, Gibson, Tosic and don’t sell our players. I know Ronaldo was something special but who knows what will happen to the players like Rafael ? Real Madrid anyone ? All over again, mates.
    Annoying.

  48. brdgunner says:

I think you might have got rid at the right time. I don’t think he will play as well as he has for again on a consistent basis.

And as for beating us 2 0 to take our unbeaten run, you as supporters must remember the game?

Your players were bang out of order that night. I have never seen such bias refereeing and blatant fouling in one game for one team in my life. (Except Liverpool in Europe, how they do it I don’t know) I think UEFA have shares in the club.

  49. Ahmed Man Utd says:

I can’t forget these moments, it was 22 on the night and I screamed like a crazy one …. my family couldn’t sleep … I am CRAZY in something it call Manchester United
